Quick overview of how to diagnose why your Jeep Wrangler JK has NO HEAT. This is in a 2014 model and it ends up being a faulty temperature blend door actuator which is a very common failure on these. If your engine is not getting up to operating temp or one/both of the heater core hoses are cold this video wont help you. `

thank you for this, I am a pro mechanic but had never done one before, you saved me a lot of time and it is working great
THANK YOU!!!!!! My heater quit working about 2 weeks ago and we’ve had the coldest winter that I can remember in FL, I flushed the heater core over the weekend still no heat, very frustrating. Came across your video and thought I’d try it, looks simple enough. Fixed my heat!!!
Perfect mix of on-target information and visuals, without a lot of needless blather and self-promotion. Heater is now working - thanks!
Great to hear the video helped out and I appreciate the feedback. Thanks
EXACTLY!
(2014 Jeep Wrangler JK) I actually just fixed it w/out having to take anything apart...The plastic arm was just jammed in the spline shaft. I laid my head underneath, awkwardly, and shined a flashlight on the white arm and pushed on it till it moved. I turned the Jeep on and switched from cold to hot and it worked on its own. 😊 Thanks for the video!
awesome! and no prob
Trying this when I get home!! Because BRRR
Oh, can you do that without taking off the plate? I'm gonna go see.
2014 Wrangler JK, no heat. Moved the plastic arm up the spline shaft. Heat is working. Of course, I had it mostly torn apart before I realized I could see the actuator arm from underneath the dash. Very awkward node positioning, but know I know that is indeed a quick fix. Thank you for the video and this comment! 🤙
Thank you for this comment! You’re a lifesaver. This comment and video combination are top tier!
The quick fix was exactly what I needed. Been driving in 25 degrees. What a treat to have heat again! Lol
Awesome!
Thanks for sharing this, it was a lifesaver! Especially since the dealership wanted over $400 to replace it. Took me less than an hour thanks to your video.
Thank you for being quick and to the point and not just talking to hear yourself talk like a lot of the RUclipsrs
You definitely helped me with my problem thank you have a great day
OMG! Thank you thank you. Concise, no silly music - just the facts. I’m a 75 year old retired Hospice nurse and living on SS.
I narrowed down this topic to this NoNonsenseKnowHow. I was going to try myself but son came over and did it! Heat - yay!
Great video. One helpful tip: i believe in most JK's that airduct is actually split lenghwise ("two halves"), so if you press on the sides it will pop open and then it is very easy to remove and reinstall WITHOUT having to unbolt that module in the back. Will save you some extra tinkering and bolt dropping ;)
Wow, thank you!! Great freaking video!! I’m in the process of learning more and more about fixing my Jeep Wrangler 2013 JK. I recently had bad clicking in my dash and my steering controls weren’t working on right side. I replaced the actuator but blindly not realizing the air duct was so easy to remove (being novice). Thus creating my AC/heating system to stay in the “heating” position. It’s looking like based off this video I set the arm in the wrong position. Wish I found this video when I first replaced my actuator 🤪 thanks again dude for great audio, video, and explanation 🤘
Thumbs up and thanks for making this video! This will be helpful for years to come with so many JK Wranglers on the road. The info, camera shots, and pace was perfect for the DIY crowd. Thank you again!
Instructions are so precise that I automatically subscribed to your channel! Short and sweet, just like it needs to be.
God sent god sent ! You are a blessing. O’Reilys had door actuator for $25 and my oldest son (13) put it in. I held the flash light and screws 🔧. I went 1.5 years shivering before seeing the right video and working on the JKU to fix the problem.
Thanks again. Lessons learned.sooo glad the $tealership didn’t get my 💵 fixing this part!
In my case (2011 JK), the pivoting arm was just jammed in the cold position. Without taking anything apart and laying on my back in the footwell, I took a look upwards directly above the gas pedal area and with a flashlight had a pretty clear view of the mechanism. With the key on I rotated the dial and nothing was moving. I used a piece of wood dowel to poke and prod the part around a bit, heard a click sound, and it came back to life. I sprayed some white lithium grease on it and it seems good to go. I'm still going to buy a new part though and replace it in the very near future. Thanks for the video!
Did you have to remove anything to see and get to it? Thanks 😊
Well just when i thought i was bamboozled, i found this quick vid, read some comments, and have my jeep ready for the road ahead. 🔥💯💯
Oh man!! I just finished replacing my heater core shedding serious blood sweat and tears, and of course I still have no heat! Ughhhhhh!! This is my next endeavor! Thank you so much! I can’t think of what else it could be! I swear I hear my actuator working, but maybe it’s something else! Back to the grind! 😂 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
This was exactly my problem and this video was a big help. I saved 2 hours of shop labour (about 300$ these days) Thanks so much.
Awesome vid Bro. Completely thorough yet shorter than many other vids that only cover half of the info ... Thanks! Getting the lower duct off was my issue. You covered that!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for this video. I too was able to give the linkage a push and got things working. Love the short and to the point repair videos
Great video - the actuator had died on my 2014 JKU. I followed your steps and now I have heat! Awesome … thank you very much for the tips 😉
2017 Wrangler: No heat. Hot water to heater core. Actuator not working. Took it apart and tested actuator motor and it worked. Put it back together thinking it was some other issue and it worked. Must have been a bad connection. Thanks for the super simple quick instructions. ++++++++++
Fast and to the point, very helpful!
That was the best video ive seen ,you did the fast version,i just needed to see what i will be needing to take off, already did the one behind glove box , 2013 jku ,thanks from huntsville alabama
Awesome video. Thorough and quick, no nonsense or dumb music, great camera work and lighting. My wife lost heat in her '14 JKU just today, so tmrw I'll be looking into this. Thanks very much!
No problem, glad it was helpful and I appreciate the feedback
Great video, 17 jk unl, cold air, no heat, used video to diagnose, was able to unjam the lever, now its functioning, thank u 💪
Very helpful today. Turns out my actuator was only "stuck" once I shoved it manually it went back to correct operation (no replacement required...yet!) Thanks for showing exactly what to look for.
I'm having the same problem (not blowing warm) and am doing the research to help me troubleshoot it. I have read that if you've narrowed it down to a dead blend door actuator, no movement out of the arm, etc, before you go to the trouble of removing and replacing the actuator, try unplugging the actuator, plug it back in, and see if the actuator now moves. Some people have reported this "reboot" got their actuator functioning again. It may or may not work for you, but it's worth a quick try before replacing it.
Great video !!!! I had to replace my actuator today and your video helped me out. Thank you.
*Door Actuator: amzn.to/2CzvrL7
*Milwaukee M12 Rachet: amzn.to/2Silnwk
Thank you for this information. My mechanic's est. for the blend door actuator is $157 + labor $155. I appreciate you.
Thank u...u just saved my day my heat wasn't working..I just lifted the liver up
Great video; however my air duct's removal was the most difficult part of the job. I highly recommend splitting the air duct prior to attempting to removing, it made it much easier. The same can be said as to the reinstallment of the air duct, install the part that clips to the vehilce first, followed by the end that snaps to the air duct.
Dude
you saved me a bunch of headaches.
I have a lifetime warranty on my 2013 wrangle unlimited.
so now I can tell the service department what the actual trouble is Saving me time at the dealership
Wow, THANK you bro!
I have a '16 Patriot but everything is similar to Wrangler. I just needed to give my actuator a few taps. Great vid, info man.
I want to thank you for the help on video for heater not working. I didnt have to replace nothing. The white lever ATM was stuck like you said. Now I have heat. Thanks much Chucky from ky.
No problem! Glad the video was helpful
Great information ....Saved me allot of time trouble shooting will let you know after blend door actuator is replaced . Thanks
Thanks! My jeep just went out of heat but my service appt in 2 weeks away but we just got snow in Denver! Your video showed that the replacement is cheaper than my warranties deductible so I’ll do it myself! Thanks so much
EDIT: wasn’t my issue. The engine hoses were hot and the dial of heater was communicating with the actuator. I saw the actuator move as it should as I turned the dial. SMH
Super helpful to me and made my replacement far easier. Thank you!
Same problem her on my 2012 Rubicon... turned out to be the blend door linkage grease got sticky and it wasn't opening all the way. Cleaned both plastic arms and added a dab of grease. BAM! Fixed!
Thanks for the video, after watching this, mine was just stuck also. Now if I ever do have to replace the part, I know where it is and where to get the replacement.
Thanks brother you were a big help now my heat is working before it gets cold out here in nyc
Awesome to hear and thanks for dropping a comment!
Great video! I've got the opposite issue, heat stays on, I'll give this a try!
Oh man! Gonna give this a go, hopefully it works for me. Great tip by the way!
Worked great - great tip on breaking the duct into 2 pieces. Thx!!
Awesome to hear! And I appreciate the feedback
Thank you so much for the well done video! Very helpful, thorough and quick!!!!!
You are amazing and saved me so much annoyance with taking it to a shop.🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hey, awesome to hear It helped dave ya some time and money.
Perfect!! Short and informative. I hope this fixes mine!
Thank you for this! I was able to fix my daughter’s Jeep heater after watching it.
No problem! Glad to hear it was helpful to you Jennifer
Thank you, I fixed my 2013 Jeep Wrangler by just reaching up and pushing on the actuator arm. It had been on full AC for six months or so and just needed a little nudge.
Good stuff! And no problem
Just did the same thing with my 2014 and it works fine now!
After flushing the heater core, changing the thermostat, it was that part. Thank you!!
Great vid. Got my 2013 JK heat going again. Many thanks
We followed your steps and have heat again! Thanks!
awesome. and no prob!
Thanks for the video, saved a ton from having it fixed at the dealership!
That's marvellous to hear that you were able to fix it yourself Sydney! Thanks for commenting
Yes from the $tealership
Hello thanks for the info and
Supper great video!!!!
It helps me a lot in case the heater ever starts running cold
No problem! Thanks
Great video. I’ll say getting that duct out is easier said than done. Mine broke lol not a big deal since I almost never use the floor air.
Back in February, I took my 2014 Jeep, same as in the video, to get the heater fixed, he charged me $126 for the actuator, and $95 to replace it. I figured I was being overcharged, but, if it works, I'll take the hit since I have very little mechanical experience. In other words, like most people, I'm at their mercy. When I picked up my Jeep, I turned on the heater and hot air blew out. So I paid and off I went. I live in Southern California so I haven't had much need for the heater. Fast forward to November, I turn on the heater, and no hot air. I did like the video says and checked the hoses while running, and they were warm, so it's the actuator that I paid over $200 to replace. I'm pissed off. I'm going in tomorrow to see if the guy will correct his shoddy work. today, when I get home, I'm going to look inside by removing the plate and see if I can check on the little door lever and see if it's stuck. Thank you for the video.
So? Now I'm intrigued
Thanks for the video!.....going to try this out. Had my coolant and thermostat changed about a month ago....everything worked great until a few days ago. Getting only 110 to 120 degree heat in the dash registers now....was getting much higher before.
No problem, glad to help out. Definitely start by making sure the engine is getting fully up to operating temperature. If it is then more than likely it's just the blend door
In your case. You may need to pull one of the heater hoses and fill them with fluid. If it's not the blend door, it's just air in the line to the heater.
@@craigmitchels272, well it wasn't the blend door. That was operating correctly. I decided to remove all the coolant and replace it. Also back-flushed the heater core and "burped" the system......that seemed to do the trick. The heating temp went from 120F to 145F....outstanding!
Thanks for sharing brosky 😊
sweet quick and on point!
Great Video. I'll do this to my 2015 Rubicon to eliminate the overheating problem I'm having. The reservoir keeps getting full, so I have to re-fill the radiator (but not losing antifreeze). I hope this solves my problem. Thanks
Thanks brother!! Big hands in small places, I’ll give her a shot.👍
Gunna try it today and see if it helps! Great video!
Thanks! This was exactly what I needed!
Thanks for the video. Followed it step by step. Once I took the front bracket off after the panel, I was able to see the actuator. It did not turn when I moved the dial. With a couple pokes at it with a screw driver, it began to move. Saved me some $$$. Thanks again.
Awesome. No problem and Merry Christmas!
Are you still planning on replacing it? Or just going to see how long it lasts?
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow Same thing here just gave it one tap, heard a noise and heat works again I will probably replace it once the garage gets warmer, doesn't seem that difficult. thanks for the video.
@@tejano2828 no problem man
I actually just fixed it w/out having to take anything apart...The plastic arm was just jammed in the spline shaft. I laid my head underneath, awkwardly, and shined a flashlight on the white arm and pushed on it till it moved. I turned the Jeep on and switched from cold to hot and it worked on its own. 😊
Thanks for the video! Fixed my heat and my daughter and wife are warm. Lol
no prob! and awesome
You saved me so much money! God Bless you
Excellent. Exactly what I needed to know!
Fixed my heater thanks to this thanks so much
No problem! Great to hear the video was helpful
ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY FANTASTIC 💯 VIDEO !! been working on cars , bikes really everything for about 40 years so i went straight to the thermostat , figured it was common and cheap but after quickly swapping it i still had no heat . I then search RUclips and after a few found yours , immediately checked it and that was it so I replaced it then can't straight back to you hit subscribe & like !!! To the point no thrills & fills and I like it that way so THANK YOU !! will definitely keep supporting you bud !!
Thanks brother you helped me fix my heat please I had the steering wheel remote adapter which you help me remove with this video thank you🙏🏽
Awesome to hear it helped out and thanks for dropping a comment!
Good job you really got in there with good video
Great "How To" video. Thanks
WOW awesome explanation and demonstration!!
Thanks Bob. Appreciate the feedback
Nice. Great video. I had 4 videos lined up to watch, but this one says it all. You pointed out everything that might be going wrong, so I'll be checking all that in the morning. Thanks for posting this.
Awesome man, good luck on the repair and glad to hear I made it in the rankings! lol. lmk how you make out
OK - So I watched the other videos anyway just for a comparison, and I kept wanting to pop the link to your video into a comment and tell them to go see how an instructional should be done. I didn't want to be mean though, so I won't do that. Your video is far superior in every way. It's quick and to the point, no nonsense, no cutesy video tricks... nothing but what I needed to see. Thanks again!
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow OK will do!
I'm Subscribing too.
Thanks, I greatly appreciate your feedback! That's what I really strive for it in my videos. I try to gear them as fast as possible without skipping important points. And thank you for the sub
Thanks, this video really help me out.
This was a great video, but I would recommend you tell folks to remove the bracket that is next to the floor vent and held on by two 8 mm bolts, this provides enough room to actually get your hands in there. ALSO, I would strongly recommend you tell folks to REMOVE the driver's seat (a pretty simple task) to allow room to work. I notice in your video there are two bolts laying on the floorboard that appear to match the front seat retaining bolts. BTW the floor vent was really hard to pull out.. :)
Thank you for this great video.
Thank YOU....great guidance having same problem on my 2013 jk.
No problem and awesome to hear that it was helpful
This fixed it!! Thank you so much!!
Hey bro! Thanks. Went really smooth. Mine didn’t even need replacing, the plug was just disconnected. However I have a problem now. Check engine went on. What did I mess up? Lol
thanks for your video just replaced mine thanks to you
Excellent very educative and informative Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. Thanks.
Awesome video thank you!!
Helped me a lot thanks
So I just bought wrangler 08 and it did blows some hot one side and cold air from one side. I'll try that out. Thank you for sharing friend
No problem! Good luck getting it fixed. If you look down in the comments, a few people discussed having a similar issue is you
Yeah, that little doo dad that you weren't sure of, (at about 2:40) is the control unit for the automatic transmission, or TCM. It has 2 connectors that run the length of the bottom of the module, both with locking squeeze tabs. They require a firm pull straight down after squeezing the lock tab, to disconnect, and a firm push to reseat. I normally disconnect the negative battery terminal before disconnecting electrical connectors, especially when they connect to a computer, but I failed to do that this time and wound up with a U0101 fault code. I disconnected the battery, and went back in to reseat, and discovered one of the connectors wasn't locked in all the way. I don't know if the code was the result of failure to disconnect the battery, or failure to properly seat the connector, but I suspect the latter. Anyway, I was able to clear the code with my little cube code reader even though it said it couldn't be cleared that way. Thanks for the video, it helped me bypass a dodgy hvac control module so that I could have heat while I await the part to arrive.
Solid video. Thanks! Saved me time and $
Thanks buddy and good to hear!
Thank you for the Video.
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Would it still be on the left hand side on a RHD vehicle
Great video!
Right on man, you gave a quality tutorial there my friend.
Glad you found it useful and thanks for the feedback!
I do have a question for you, I found your video well looking for a "how to flush your heater core" video. I also just changed my engine coolant temperature sensor. Should I have had engine coolant spill out of the sensor port when I remove the original. I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler rubicons 3.6.
@@richgran I'm not sure I understand your question. Yeah it's normal for some coolant to spill out of the temp sensor port
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I figured so, I asked because I didnt get any spillage, but was expecting it to spill out when I removed the sensor. I'll check the fluid level next. Thanks for your reply.
Sometimes it doesn't spill if the system is completely full and the radiator cap is on. That is normal also
Well this saves me a lot of time now.
Nice video
I love Wrangler YJ 4.0L👍
Thank you!!
Very helpful 👊🏻
Thanks good vid
I’m going to ride it out. Merry Christmas
Cool, let me know if it happens to fail again. Curious to know how long it will go or if it fails again at all
Thanks. Mine was just stuck in the down position. Just needed an adjustment 🔨 to move again
