Honestly, there are so much different patterns and STCs of the Bolter/Bolt rifle even in the 40K universe that having one sightly differ from one another should be mandatory !
Absolutely this. "It should look exactly like the models" is a baffling take, one that's seen warhammer artwork take a significant downturn over the years.
To my knowledge, there's only like, 5 variants of boltgun that are actually named, and a few, the two I can think of off the top of my head being the Mars-pattern and shrapnel Bolter, of them are the exact same visually, however there's over two dozen Las-Guns, at least 7 named and at least 5 have canon looks.
Another benefit of leaving the grips in 'raw printed plastic' is that they will not show any colour loss from the wear and tear of simply being handled repeatedly.
Which, personally can be really cool for apocalyptic guns, which is why I paint in so many different colored layers, makes the wear realistic. For this though not painting it was so smart

I love this. I've seen boltguns made by some of the best propmakers on the internet and they look boxy and cheap. The thing is the models have to tone down the detail to be pheasable. You need to add details when you scale up.

I've been using Elegoo's PLA filament. It's really cheap and looks fine. I can't speak for it's layer adhesion or strength, but I tend to print a lot of decorations and they are all serviceable.

There are so many different varieties of boltors in the lore that it really doesn't matter what creative choices you take its always gonna look like a boltor.
ADHD is a real hindrance for any hobby, I tend to initially jump in with both feet and be so enthusiastic only to lose interest when I hit an obstacle, so I understand where you’re coming from 😢 … 🐿️

This looks so much like Darktides' take on 40K weapons that add realistic elements to existing GW designs. As a Darktide player and cosplayer seriously thinking about cosplaying from that game this all looks like a great fit.
i saw a bit of distortion on the copper colored bullets that looked familiar, then saw we had the same printer at least for that item you printed and i just figured that same distortion out on my own p1s today. at smaller layer heights like .08 i got that exact same type of distorted surface pattern and after a ton of testing i figured out that lowering the speed to the 50% silent mode got rid of those surface anomalies. I am going to try a print slowing just the outer layers down to 100mms instead of the 200 it was set at to try and match the 50% number they show for silent mode so I can run it at normal speed for the inside and supports
As a veteran, and fan, the only gripe I have really had (outside of some parts of reality and a lack of placement for the gas back systems) is the way the fore pump action grip size and placement means you would have to pump out instead of in. Still doable especially if the grip had a place to move even if it was shorter than the full traversal. But seems more messy and prone to failure in certain situations as is. Still very nice and rocket ammunition takes care of an interesting bit.
Bolters aren’t pump action. That’s just a hand grip. As for the gas problem, bolt rounds have two charges: “As well as the rocket propellant, a small conventional charge is also utilised. This charge is strong enough to force the bolt out of the barrel at a significant muzzle velocity, and simultaneously ignite the bolt's propellant. The rocket-propellant is precisely fused to ignite immediately as the bolt leaves the barrel, alleviating any possibility of pressure build-up. The bolt then accelerates toward the target under its own power.”
Time to go the next step and get all those pieces cast in aluminum, tap some threads, paint + assemble, and have yourself a Bolter that will really shine.
Warhammer Darktide the left 4 dead-ish PC game just got good again and released to Xbox so you're riding a lil wave of resurging WH40k interest and the bolter sounds so good in that game. Your print kicks ass and looks gorgeous.

You cannot describe it as Nerf if it doesn't shoot anything or have anything to do with a Nerf gun. It's just a 3D printed prop bolter that's it... Very cool in any of the cases. Thanks for sharing.
For an even better result, add a combination of white, red and yellow led lights in the muzzle, a sound chip near the middle, and a battery in the handle. Connect to the trigger and put an off on button to preserve the battery (or to keep it silent when needed).

Come on now, no need for the nitpicking. If it is true to scale, the grip will be too large for a normal human hand to hold properly, thus making the intention of making it a playable nerf gun a moot point. It'll only be good for decoration piece, or if you ever have time and money to finish your true to scale space marine cosplay

GW already partnered with Hasbro (WotC) for the Warhammer Commander decks for magic the gathering. I could totally see them partnering again to make functional NERF bolters. I mean hell, we already got a nerf Gjallarhorn from Destiny, so this isn't even that big of a leap for them.
Imagine a nerf war and the opposing side has these things yelling “FOR THE EMPEROR!” And a massive kid comes out of nowhere wearing space marine power armor with a heretic remover

Sandable primer spray would save you a bunch of coats. Halfords and Autotek both do a good one in the Uk.

Iv'e printed the same things from the same guy - rubberized spray paint is amazing on the grips and mag releases.

GW already partnered with Hasbro (WotC) for the Warhammer Commander decks for magic the gathering. I could totally see them partnering again to make functional NERF bolters.
I mean hell, we already got a nerf Gjallarhorn from Destiny, so this isn't even that big of a leap for them.
