    This. This right here. This is how it should be done. Jon Stewart never loses his cool. Never yells. He just simply sticks to the facts and doesn't let go of them and doesn't accept when someone dances around his direct question. This should be the norm in journalism.

      These aren’t facts. These are anecdotal stats because 1, we have no long term studies and 2, why weren’t kids killing themselves 20, 30, 40 years ago if the present should be the norm? If kids couldn’t affirm themselves because of a cruel society then shouldn’t we see an epidemic of child suicides?! You people are completely fucking crazy! I love Jon stewart but he’s so twisted up on this one.

      Most likely because there are interviews and issues that Jon Stewart has lit up, such as 9/11 first responder’s health care, and they do not oppose those issues. His success with The Daily Show has plenty of highlights, but unfortunately too many want to love/hate that it is on Comedy Central.

We can’t even get basic counseling to deal with it. My Dr and me speak and keeps me posted on how they are addressing in the courts but have to destroy evidence of communication. I can’t even leave them a voicemail. I am the mother! I know my child and their doctors and I know what is best for them. This issue is by far more complicated than people understand. It is also NOT easy to get treatment because they are very diligent about what they do. Nothing they do as minors is permanent. I hate how misinformed and willfully ignorant about the issue. The trouble is, it is seated in an old resentment by the white working class that their standard of living is dropping dramatically. The aspirational class is getting wiped out by attempts to tax the rich and they have a core belief about what America should be. That by working hard they will enjoy sunshine and crime free streets of opportunity. They were never educated. So if you tell them that the establishment is a satanic cult meant to deny them these things and you weaponize the existence of outsiders to the white working class worldview. They will believe it, because it speaks to their resentment.
      Until those feelings are validated, they will continue to be this destructive. They will continue to be this ignorant. Educating yourself is very difficult. I've had many paradigm shifts where I had to accept I was completely out of my depth and be humble enough to grow as a person. That took me eating some sour grapes, to move beyond hard feelings. This crowd feels vindicated to have hard feelings, they don't think they deserve hard lessons.

    • @BambiTrout
      @BambiTrout 2 года назад

      @@TangoNevadaOk I'll bite. The first paragraph is the response to your comment; the rest is a more extensive justification of Stewart's position.
      Obviously cancer is a more serious condition, but the point Stewart is trying to make is not "hur dur being trans and not getting care is as serious as untreated cancer". He's using a hyperbolic example to make it clear that people DO die from gender dysphoria - some of those people being children. Cancer is your own body killing you; suicide is your own mind killing you.
      The point Stewart is making is that on all other health issues, parents get to take their children to the doctors, their doctors will recommend lifestyle changes, treatment plans, and/or medical procedures to address the issue, and then the parents will help their child decide how to proceed. By completely blocking access to trans healthcare, Arkansas state is removing the ability of doctors, parents, OR the children these decisions actually affect, to make their own choices about what is best for each individual child.
      The majority of children will not even think about transitioning. The ones that get referred to doctors for gender dysphoria are those who have explicitly told their parents that they are unhappy with their gender in some way. It is then up to the doctors, the parents, AND the child, to figure out whether this is more of a "Timmy just likes wearing dresses" issue or more of a "Timmy wants to become Tamara and has threatened to kill herself if she is forced to go through male puberty" issue - most likely it's somewhere in the middle.
      Regardless, until the child is 16/18, the only treatments they have access to are therapy, puberty blockers, a new name, and a new wardrobe - all of which are reversible and have been safely prescribed to children for decades, if not more. Some trans boys may be able to access breast reduction/removal early, but that's because both teenage girls and boys with gynecomastia are allowed to have breast reductions/removals if necessary, so denying trans boys that right would be openly discriminatory.
      Children have rights, opinions, and feelings about how they wish to express themselves, and what they will look like when they grow up. They might find out when they get to 25 that they made a mistake, but the important thing is that was THEIR mistake - not someone else dictating their life for them - and it made sense at the time. All of us made at least one permanent decision as a child that we regret as adults. The important thing is having the support and understanding to help us process that mistake and move on. Also, according to most studies, detransitioners account for less than 5% of trans people, who are already less than 1% of the population.
      My biggest regret as an adult trans person, was that I was not allowed the opportunity to go through school as a girl - the way I wanted to. Instead I had to pretend to be someone that I wasn't, and pretend that it didn't kill me inside every time someone told me I was growing up to be a "big, strong man", or when I got told that I must have been adopted because I was too ugly to be related to my mum and my sister. Being forced to grow up and live as a male when every part of me knew that was not what I wanted to do was agonising. I would have killed for the chance to even just TRY living as a girl without judgement when I was 12 or 8 or 4 - but it just wasn't the done thing. I was deemed too young to know any better, and the few times when I HAD openly expressed those desires or worn a dress in front of other people, were used to mock and ridicule me throughout my entire childhood. All I wanted was the opportunity to choose my own path in life, and not have it constantly dictated to me by others. Obviously I wanted informed guidance and support from those older and more experienced than me, but by blocking access to trans healthcare, the state of Arkansas is denying trans children access to that informed guidance and support - they're saying "Suck it up, kid. We know better than you so we're going to make this choice for you."

Cancer is an inherently fatal condition 100% of the time if it’s not treated. Gender dysphoria is not. It’s more accurate to compare it to BIID (body integrity identity disоrdеr, also called apotemnophilia or xenomelia) where people believe they’re not meant to see (because they identify as blind), or have limbs or desire paralysis. In the quest to find relief, some are willing to blind or mutîlаtе themselves. Some are successful in finding unscrupulous surgeons willing to perform elective amputations.
      Does this sound familiar at all to you? Can minors who truly believe they’re meant to live in a wheelchair, give consent & petition for the transection of their spinal cord? Is it ethical to advocate in favor of mentally disоrderеd patients (especially pediatric ones) to hurt themselves because they believe this will alleviate their distress?

      The point is that it would be a conversation between the doctor, the parent, and the child to get said child the medical care that is best suited for them, and the state would not be involved in that conversation telling the doctor that widely approved care by experts in the field is not allowed.
      You bring up BIID, but don't seem to recognize the inherent flaw in your counterpoint: "some are willing to blind or mutîlаtе themselves". So instead of having a conversation with their parents and medical professionals, you would want to ban any and all care for those with BIID? Including therapy and medication?

I'm really getting sick of hearing all the news stories of republicans rolling back laws in states when its clear the it is strongly popular by a majority or even super majority to the general public. The only solace I can offer is that republicans are having to rig elections by gerrymandering districts, passing voting bills to close poling stations, and prevent early voting to try and hold on to power and they are pissing off an entire generation of voters that may lose the ability to vote in one or two elections, but will remember that for a lifetime and they will not be able to keep their strangle hold on power for much longer. And when they inevitably lose that power, I hope their progressive majority colleagues also remember their complete unwillingness to compromise and push forward with a progressive agenda that drives them nuts that they can do nothing but whine about.

    • @richardsinclair7661
      @richardsinclair7661 Год назад

      @@darkprince56 I can't believe you're arguing something that's so far from his point and presenting it as if you're correct. Gender dysphoria isn't a guaranteed death sentence if it isn't treated like pediatric cancer, however gender dysphoric teens are still almost 8 times more likely to commit suicide than their cisgender peers. How about you ask some parents if they wanna take that chance? Stewart is comparing gender dysphoria and pediatric cancer to point out the disparity of how the state of Arkansas wants parents to approach them. If your kid has cancer, it's "Follow the advice and opinions of the medical community that has heaps of research on this kind of cancer". If your kid has gender dysphoria all of a sudden, it's "We know better than all of the experts in the medical community. Your kid doesn't need treatment, they need to grow up."
      Also, few things
      1. Gender-affirming care is not only transitional surgery. There are mental, behavioral and social services as well, and they happen well before any administration of puberty blockers or hormone replacement therapy, let alone surgery has taken place. Puberty blockers are relatively harmless (and are used to treat other things; they're not just for transitioning teens). There are also no 9-year-olds walking into doctors offices asking to be injected with testosterone, since you can't start hormone replacement therapy until 16. Finally, if a decision on ANY of this needs to be made, the parent(s) have the final say. Puberty blockers are harmless, and hormone replacement therapy can be gradually reversed, depending on how long it has been since the treatment started.
      2. A large majority of transitional surgeries happen after the patient has become an adult.
      All of this to say that you've misunderstood his point and mischaracterized several aspects of the issue.

      It seems that there is a race of many colors and stripes who are human.
      And nowvwe find these creatures who are emerging from under the rocks that they have been living under.

    The thing that separates good journalism from bad journalism can be summarized in one word: RESEARCH. These days, what is salacious is what gets air. Not scholarly research, not well-reasoned positions, not fact-based reporting. That's what Jon Stewart does so well: reasons. He gives his adversaries no pivot points. He PINS THEM DOWN, and he controls the conversation. It's brilliant to watch: he's saying one thing but he's already thinking three responses ahead.

      I agree about being informed and do real journalistic research. Sometimes though, verbal skills, quick thinking, can dominate (in extreme cases bully) the other side, with sarcasm for instance. One can "feel" the bias in all sides, because of the radical thinking and agendas everywhere, all sides. It's like a new language. By the way, I like Jon Stewart, I admire his thinking, and many other qualities, even if I don't agree with all

      @@Elsa0456 This wasn't bullying. He simply stuck to his actual questions, demanded answers to those specific questions, and pointed out when those answers were clearly false or unsatisfactory. You see it as bullying because he happens to disagree with you.

    Hey guys John Stewart interviewed Richard McDonough, VA Secretary, and held his feet to the fire over the lack of care veterans were receiving for burn pit injuries. Just as honest, just as unforgiving and righteously ruthless as this interview.
