- State Sen. Nathan Dahm (R-OK) has penned several bills loosening gun restrictions, including the nation's first anti-red flag law against restricting gun access to those deemed dangerous. Not only does he want to protect the Second Amendment, but he also believes guns make us safer. We think it's probably one or the other. The way this man wracked his brain to avoid saying 'register' was a feat to behold.
For real. I'm tempted to turn it into homebrew DnD content.
In defense, he has very little brain to work with. This man never made it past high school and doesn't even know what the word anecdote means, yet somehow he failed upward to Senator, but that's the Republican way it seems.
racked* but yes absolutely; an actual demon.
@@IMatchoNation - he had it right the first time. It's wracked, not racked.
And yet the guns stay.
The jews can't even win the gun war.
They've infected every other American institution.
Historically a vile filth tribe.
I’m a courtroom lawyer, and Jon Stewart is not, but I would say that was the most devastating cross-examination I’ve ever seen.
And do you know why? Because he was speaking the truth! And of course he is quick-witted. I miss Jon on our televisions!
This is a masterclass in debate and rhetoric.
this guy should've said no to an interview with Jon Stewart.
When sophistry hits the wall of truth. Its a beautiful thing to witness.
That entire 8 minute session was a setup for the final 30 seconds and the Honorable Senator from Oklahoma walked directly into the trap. Absolute evisceration. John is a master of controlling his emotions and not letting his rage overwhelm his ability to reason. Absolutely fantastic.
4:13 "This is not an anecdote, this actually happened"

Well he’s a state senator not national senator, but still very worrying
I think this every time I watch the video. It drives me crazy each time. 🤦🏻♂️

I don’t think he know what anecdote means, dear lord
In the immortal words of Inigo Montoya “you keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.“
Jon is very articulate in his argument even when he’s visibly upset. I absolutely admire that. I would have become a rambling mess a long time ago trying to keep up with these mental gymnastics.
The fact that you would've become a rambling mess only proves your emotional immaturity. It's easy to argue your side of an argument as long as you don't let your emotions get in the way.
I see what you mean: Stewart is using logic, trying to have a discussion at eye level, and this hillbilly responds with some off-topic distraction or what-aboutism that's down at the ankles. Stewart's patience with this guy's incoherence, INCONSISTENTCIES, and bs is impressive.
I thought the very same thing.
@@Breaker2005 Becoming angry or annoyed at someone who keeps repeating illogical and factually incorrect arguments and who is actively contributing to gun deaths is not proof of emotional immaturity, it's proof you actually have emotions.
This is always my problem. I get too mad at the gun-nuts and dismiss them. I should memorize this entire discussion for future reference.
I loved in when the senator tried to say, “This isn’t an anecdote; this actually happened,” completely unaware that it’s still an anecdote.

The way the senator responded, I don't think he knows what the word "anecdote" means... this fucking party I swear to god...
Then the dude tries to tell his story of the woman who had a restraining order on her boyfriend … and Jon Stewart interrupted him because THAT is an anecdote. And anyway, I’m thinking most of us who support common sense gun laws would totally support that woman purchasing a weapon AFTER she passed a background check and, in my opinion, got some basic training on the weapon’s operation or demonstrated proficiency on that particular weapon, I’m sure that guy’s comeback from his anecdotal story would’ve been that the ex-boyfriend came that night and she had to use her gun foe protection and a waiting period for a background check would have caused her to get protection too late. Well, that’s life. I’m sure the person in need of a kidney donation needs it TONIGHT and not NEXT WEEK. But there are organ donation procedure, regulations and restorations. I know it’s not the same, but sometimes someone in a life threatening situation ends up on the short end of the stick so that overall society works for many more people. But the woman (& everybody in a similar position) must take responsibility for her own safety while waiting on the “ok” for her desired gun purchase and training to go through. If you’re worried you need a gun RIGHT NOW, life or death situation, you need to stay with family or a friend or if you have nobody, contact a shelter or the police. Her inability to plan ahead (& I know, I know she might not have known, it’s not her fault, but we can’t make everyone else unsafe just because of this one in a million situation) and realize she might should get a gun before the ex-boyfriend becomes violent should not cause ALL THE REST OF US TO BE UNSAFE BECAUSE IS GETTING BACKGROUND CHECKED.
I KNOW RIGHT ??!!!!!!! WASN'T IT FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC !!!!!!!
They love the one that seems to perfectly illustrate their position yet the thousands that invalidate their position are apparently meaningless hyperbole.
I'd love to hear about the drag show that killed a child or multiple children.
One interesting thing I pulled is that deadbeat dads shouldn't have guns. Can't be responsible for your kids then no guns for you.
Jon's line 'Even rights have responsibilities' should be emblazoned on a sign in every classroom. Jon is the master.
It’s not ‘even…’, it’s just the other side of the coin. Love others as you would have them love you.
@@john3_14-17Love wouldn't be the word I'd use, just respect. I don't expect everyone to love me, but I sure as hell hope everyone could respect me, my space and my right to exist peacefully. I'd also like to add that when I say "peacefully", I mean comfortably. Without fear of anyone depriving me of my peace. That may mean by not paying me enough money to live a comfortable life, or the reassurance that if I get hurt, I won't have to sacrifice the comfort of my family. It could also mean making sure I have a safe place for me and my family.
It's ironic that these type of guys only want to secure people's rights when it also involves corporations getting lots of money.
@@AdrianWaitemusic I use the word love because that is what our Lord uses.

Why isn’t Jon Stewart on Sixty Minutes? They could fire their entire cast and save millions and just hire Stewart.
John's response was golden
That was the best part!!! He said, "What?" And he thought, "Oops." Haha!!!
Because John thinks he’s smarter than he is. Don’t misunderstand I’m not saying John is a stupid person he’s not he’s a very intelligent guy who I agree with on a lot of subjects. I blamed China for the Wuhan leak within the first week of the outbreak, and that was just based off deductive logic with little evidence but I was shocked to hear him say it to Colbert. On this particular issue he really is not a voice of reason, nor does he have a compelling argument.
And I’m going to say this, with the assumption, it will be criticized… But I mean this whole heartedly… aside from a few of us in the country, who have absolutely no power to help the issue in anyway… No one cares about the REAL cause of the gun violence in the country as it relates to mass shootings/shooters. Not the bulk of the citizens, and seemingly none of those in a position of power to make any meaningful statements , suggestions, or actions.
No one Just like no one cares/cared if they were still any sex slaves on Epstein’s island after he and his Madame were arrested. And I say this as someone who tried to encourage such discussions around the time these would have been immedietly relevant to discuss, having encouraged discussion online more than dozens of times on both issues… more than a few venues and multiple times… No one cared to discuss it …
@@mrspicolli That's a large amount of meandering text without any real arguments. What is the real cause, then?

@Nicholas L Dude you are not saying anything
@@nicholas_l of course he refuses to say it out of either cognitive dissonance or strategic reasons. However, neither of those two justify it. A public official lying, or refusing to admit the truth, isn't okay because it's strategic or cognitive dissonance. So quit justifying his unethical behavior simply because it's, perhaps, "strategic'. That doesn't make his policy stances here logical or ethical to his responsibility and sworn oath to serve the public - not himself. Your attempted justification simply further reinforces the self-serving, unethical behavior he's demonstrating that is being highlighted here. Simply put, you aren't helping his case with that self-serving reasoning like you think you are. You're also skewing the point here. The issue being pointed out here is the logic, or lack thereof, behind his policy stances, not his behavioral reasoning for his lying that you are deflecting toward. Whether it because he refuses to accept reality, or because he refuses to admit it for strategic purposes, he's still ignoring reality.

@@Betelgeuse2142here's the problem. How far does the background check go? How much control over a right held by the people is to be given to he government. 80-90% of delays and denials by the FBI National Instant Check System, NICS, are in error. This is straight from the ATF agents who have come to our store to check paperwork and follow up on criminal uses of firearms. How much power does the government get over the one right that is there to keep government power in check.
@@Moose_King_05 How do universal background checks, assault weapon bans, and red flag laws with due process equate to "The utter destruction of all human rights"?
@@rehaanphansalkar4187 they remove the right to keep and bear arms and make owning firearms a privilege.
Universal background checks are useless without a 100% complete registration and database. Which would cost billions of dollars to build and maintain. Not to mention require tens of thousands of government personnel. And you would have to go door to door and search every single house.
The entire point of citizens being armed is that they have military arms and armaments so they can defend from their own. An unarmed civilian population has absolutely no rights. Only privileges granted by an over reaching government. Nothing more.
Red flag laws violate due process, among many other rights, and take the guns without any actual proof. It's a political tool to commit violence against gun owners.
@@Moose_King_05 rights and privileges have responsibilities behind them. voting, owning/driving a car, going to school, etc. are all things that have inherent responsibilities outlined in the process of doing them, and failure to maintain that responsibility through refusal, deception, or harm to others strips you of being able to take part in whatever you were doing. why should we make owning a firearm any different?

@@537monster Yup. And this is not the guy that bags your groceries, he’s a senator. We’re screwed!
I think this airhead doesn't know the difference between a hypothetical story and anecdote. 😵💫
He clearly doesn't understand what "anecdote" means. That something is anecdotal doesn't mean it didn't happen, it means that it is very rare case taken out of proportion because while it probably happened in that instance, the alternative happens much more often. So saying "it actually happened" is not a counter to it being anecdotal. By making such a statement the person making it is just announcing he or she is an idiot.

You’re as backwards as the senator lool
@@HISHAM931 May b not strawman exactly. But there's ton of lies, misinterpretations,
dishonesty, false equivalency, red herring and gaslighting employed by Jon Stewart in this video.
@@jimmy_xi9342 ok now you tell me which parts were lies, gaslighting etc. Put a timestamp on them.
All you did was say a bunch of words without substantiating anything.
@@HISHAM931Okay, let me substanstiate then. Here we go-
1) Jon believes the term "well regulated" in the 2nd amendment means controlled or supervised by the government. In the late 18th century when the 2nd amendment was written, the term well regulated meant well organized or properly functioning and not what Jon thinks it means. It certainly did not mean that the state should b controlling the militias.
(Source: Jack Norman Rakove, American historian, author and professor at Stanford University and Pulitzer Prize winner)
2) Jon says he isn't against the 2nd amendment and he doesn't wanna ban guns. But just a few moments ago he misinterpreted the phrase "well regulated" which is a collective rights argument often made by people who don't believe there's an individual right to own firearms. U can look up collective rights theory if u wanna go into details of it.
The Supreme court in 2008 District of Columbia v. Heller ruled that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects an individual's right to keep and bear arms-unconnected with service in a militia.
3) Another slight of hand Jon does here is that he uses gun deaths and not gun homicides. Gun deaths also include suicides and accidents. He intentionally uses gun deaths to pad up the numbers for adding more weight to his argument. It's not that these deaths don't matter but using them in a gun violence conversation is deceitful to say the least.
4) He talks about background checks but we already have those in place. Straw purchases r already illegal.
What they r asking for is universal background checks.
Its a well intended idea but the problem with it is that it's completely useless without a federal searchable database to check against i.e national gun registry. He draws a false equivalecy between voting and gun registration.
Gun registration doesn't act as a deterrent to crime or mass shootings. It only tells the government who the gun is registered to.
But I have to agree that gun registration isn't completely useless. It can definitely aid the government at the time of confiscating firearms as we saw in Australia,Nazi Germany,UK,China,South Africa,New Zealand to name a few. In all these places gun registration was brought in for "safety and to reduce crime/violence".
5) The leading cause of death among "children" in this country is firearms.
If u categorize 17,18 and 19 year olds engaging in gang violence as "children", then it's absolutely true🙄
What an abomination of a study this! It has been debunked so many times but idiots like Jon Stewart keep peddling the same bs over and over again. Unfortunately, dumb senators like these fail to call him out.
This is just from the first half of the video. Pay attention, may b could identify a few more by urself.
The fact that he wouldn’t say “register” when he was asked “what do you have to do to vote?” was epic.
Olympic level mental gymnastics
I prefered the way he walked into the 'the government has a responsibility to protect children' line before he realised and tried to pivot the second time to 'in certain circumstances'
yeah, it was funny, but it wasn't a good argument from Jon though. the point of a voter registration is to provide ID to prove who you say you are and have the valid right to vote. We already have the exact same function for guns with background checks. They check to make sure you are who you say you are and that you are allowed to exercise that right. A gun registry doesn't actually do anything to prevent crimes. A list of legal gun owners doesn't do anything to stop criminals.
@@D_Boone but the dude in the video is trying to get rid of background checks that's the point
@@riddlerx994 where did you get that information? Definitely not from this video. Jon said that he doesn’t want background checks but that’s just cause Jon like most liberals just throws words into peoples mouths and then continuously talks over them so they can’t make their point.

Notice the Senator could NOT bring himself to say you have to register to vote???? Great interview Jon!!
@@californiaslastgasp6847 There's a difference. For voting, the ID is to match your registered voting ID, and polling location against a national database. It's to prove you are who they have listed. For guns its to prove your age and give a name for a background check that does not include a national database, only in-state information. That means criminals can go across to any other states and purchase guns. On top of this, only 20 states currently do a full background check. Most of them just enter the owner into their own customer database. You have about as hard a time buying alcohol as you do guns in 32 states. I'm baffled by the number of Americans who can't see the correlation between the number of guns you own and the number of gun deaths
-THere's not a correlation. Look at the groups and places with highest gun ownership, and there's no correlation. White americans have the most guns per capita, their homicide rate is both lower than the national average and lower than Europe's average.

Hey Jon do you take into account that most gun violence in the U.S. is correlated to gang violence and that many of those gang members are teens?? Do you also take into account the guns these gang members almost always use are handguns and not "assault rifles"?? Oh and by the way, they get these guns illegally. We have a gang violence problem like no other country but no one dares to talk about that.🤷
@@adveni323 I know right, it’s almost like being able to track guns to individuals and better registration measures would allow for law enforcement to more easily find illegal sources of guns and solve gun crimes

What I want to know is WHY on earth doesn’t EVERY reporter grab these slippery grifters by the hair (metaphorically. although it would be more fun literally) and just keep repeating the question they just deflected until they get an answer?
I have watched this happen countless times in the trump cult era. A reporter asks a question & they redirect & deflect, so the reporter chases the deflection or moves on to the next question as if the goal here was quantity over quality?
Also, if it is a bunch of reporters, why doesn’t the next one say “You haven’t answered this question yet” and stay on it instead of trying to get THEIR question asked? It helps them weasel out of giving any actual answers by changing the topic they are trying to avoid.
Then the next one asks it.
Then the next one until they find an elevator & dive into it like it was a storm shelter & a tornado is coming.

@HikerChristy * Anecdotes or personal stories doesn't mean something is fake. It just means it doesn't take in the whole picture. Policies should always be made on statistics and not just anecdotes.
@HikerChristy * Cool. Sucks that it happened but it's an anecdote because it doesn't provide context for the overarching point. "That one person..." is a bad argument when kids are killed by guns.

If you're going to talk about protecting lives then the only way to do that is to confiscate guns. This was a master class in interviewing. It should be required viewing for any journalism student. Absolutely brilliant.
LOL, that was not an interview, it was Jon grandstanding to make a point.
when he says "The leading cause of children's death is Firearms" that implies images of little kids being shot in a school when in reality, those numbers are mostly gangsters in the cities between ages of 15-18. Anything under 18 is called a "child" in the statistics, kinda different when a 17 year old selling drugs and being involved in gang activity gets shot, it's not the same as a 6 year old child being shot in a classroom.
And those deaths almost all of them are with illegal hand guns that would not be stopped by increasing restrictions and regulations on legal gun owners or banning AR-15.
He only made "good points" if you are ignorant, sadly.

This guy is even stupider than that Arkansas attorney general that Jon interviewed a while back.
It's because he's a salesperson for guns. He's not a public servant, he's a Smith & Wesson employee.
I've come to that conclusion too, the total lack of self reflection seems like it's something a lot of conservatives really struggle with. These people have labrador retriever levels of confidence about every one of their opinions. Not to mention almost every right wing talking point curated for fox news was created in some think tank and funded by billionaires. I kinda think about it like the Eric Cartman effect, it's a constant state of being loud, smug, disingenuous, hypocritical all rolled into one trait while also projecting all of those things onto the people someone else has decided you shouldn't like, but you refuse to speak to. We love the fact so many are calling this a master piece of an interview. Someone knowledgeable on actual stats would have called BS on Jon Stewart right away. His numbers were incorrect and true 2nd amendment supporters know this.
Jon Stewart had this discussion with someone who actually does not represent the people .
He did not speak for the everyday person who is a lawful firearm owner.
Because we all have seen what happens when they actually do have a sit down with someone who actually knows stats and is well versed. That is when you all get frustrated and start changing topics and yourselves get flustered.
While you are all sitting there bragging about this interview. We just added 4 times more new firearm owners.
And remember . States are changing their stance. Constitutional carry is spreading. Mainly because the numbers you all keep throwing together are actually not supported..
Throwing gang related into the firearm stats when it is suppose to be against the 2nd amendment. So why not actually break those numbers down before calling this a win? We all know you wont. It doesn't support your narrative.
Heck even the FBI and CDC when looking in not the correct stats saw what we here on the 2nd amendment side have said all along.
Some of us laughed at this interview. Because the true fact is when you are walking the streets of Chicago or NY . It is not a legally owned firearm you will see flash before your eyes. That is a real criminal with a real illegally obtained firearm who is about to add to your over bloated misrepresented stats.

Jon Stewart should have asked him why we don't allow citizens who are in prison to have firearms. Is it not infringing on the fundamental rights of a criminal to take away their guns when they go to prison? Are you naturally this stupid or did you have to work for it? Your rights are several limited when you commit a crime as part of yiour punishment. After completing your punishment, you should have a full restoration of rights. If you're too dangerous to have a full restoration of rights, then you shouldn't be out of prison.
