Bill is literally forgetting that we revised the Geneva Conventions BECAUSE of the mass killings in ww2! The entire world looked around and said “yeah we probably shouldn’t try to solve our problems that way” . The difference between imperial japan and Palestine is that Japan could bounce back after the war, after the bombs were dropped most Japanese people realized that no matter what they did America would win so they put their efforts into rebuilding their country, Palestinians don't have anything to bounce back to, winning this war against Israel is their only ticket to dignity because Israel has proved time and time again that they won't stop if there is a ceasefire
Condemning Hamas would be the same as condemning the warsaw ghetto uprising, i find it hilarious that people try and distance themselves from Hamas when history will view them the same as the vietnamese liberation forces.
It would be a wild (and horrific) alternate history if Germany stopped after annexing Austria and just performed the holocaust in their own country. I doubt the world as it existed in 1939 does anything about it.

I used to watch Real Time (for several years) as I seemed to agree with most of the things Maher said, but 4 or 5 years ago I began to realize that he had quite a bit of right wing "logic" in him and I stopped watching--it was making me sick.

For what it’s worth, Henry Winkler has a reputation in Hollywood for being exceptionally down to earth, good-natured, and kind. He’s one of those actors/producers who no one has anything bad to say about him. And his resume is a lot more packed than just the couple of credits named here (though obviously Happy Days is what made him famous). Also he was in the original Scream movie.

They don’t really care about the hostages. It’s never been a priority. In a recent article in Haaretz, (Israeli Newspaper) they said Netanyahu would rather they come home in body bags. Essentially, the Hannibal directive is still in place.

It’s just crazy how ahistorical Maher is about Japan. Setting aside the various strains of fascism that survived the end of the war, Japan was built back to what it is now because the US poured tons of resources into rebuilding the country and restricted its occupation mostly to Okinawa (Okinawans think very differently of the US than mainland Japan. Funny how that works out).
So the actual execution of what Maher is saying is not bombing every square inch of a place they already control. It would have been pouring resources into the West Bank and Gaza after securing territory in 1967. Granting democratic rights to all the Palestinians living in their expanded borders and limiting the occupation to one or two strategic positions like the Sinai and Golan Heights.
But they didn’t do that, because Bill’s comparison is ASININE.

japan did so well because it ate the rich (took the resources of the oligarchs and re-distributed to the rest of the country). It was the reason they had such an amazing run... until the oligarchs got it all again, and now they are stuck in low growth until they do it again.

Henry Winkler might actually be cooler than the Fonz. Maher is the guy who's job is being a talking head about politics for DECADES yet Winkler has shown more critical thinking skills and actual sophistication than Maher.

My father and mother both served the full time of WWII for Canada, fighting the Nazis. My father Jewish, my mother German. The Holocaust delivered the Jews to Israel.
