My goodness - just use hairspray! I have exactly the same stick straight bob cut w bangs . I use simple Velcro rollers in morning while getting ready / having morning coffee - and give a light spray spray when I take out rollers - I spray UNDER THE CURL - just a mist. And this gives me terrific volume at crown and the bangs are swept up in long swirl angling back 😘 classic look. And maybe during the day I'll pull up the sides and crown with pretty hair combs and in an hour I have huge volume. This is SO EASY!
what hairspray? All the ones I have used will not hold my fine straight hair.
I really like the shift to the side bangs (especially because it successfully addresses a similar issue I have with a long face plus straight, thinning hair). So flattering for her! The body perm look is an oldie but goodie - but the challenge would be finding a stylist who won’t run screaming from the room and/or really knows how to do body perms the right way. I’ve chosen to use a human hair topper to add the volume I need. Might want to address that resource for those of us 70+ followers with thin hair/bald spots, etc.
That's a great point! Volume perms are definitely a situation of finding the right person! Hair toppers can be great as well! Glad you found something that works for you!
I prefer the first style. Somehow it‘s more „her“. I am new to your channel and find it refreshing to see such enthusiasm about hairstyles and haircuts. For the first time in life I feel the passion of a hair stylist. Wonderful!
I used to wear bangs to disguise my long face, but I no longer have enough hair to wear bangs. Help!
I'm so envious of her having her natural colour at 65. I went totally white in my early 40s and coloured up for most of the years since. Now nearing 70 I've allowed it to grow out, it's bright white, and attracts attention. It's pretty short too as that works best.

I was a towhead as a child and a blonde through my 20s. As I grew older, it got darker. I did used to have highlights put in 4 times a year. Now it’s a very dark blondish-brown. I felt so much prettier as a blonde, but I’m 65 now. I let my hair grow out during COVID and now I am clueless on what I should have done.
I grew out the dye & my hair is all white too!My hair is waist lenth & I just pull it up into a bun, through the hair tie, No bobbypins needed
& very simple to fix. I've been thinking of mabe getting some of it cut off, maybe right below my shoulders. I'm 72.

I remember in my 20's a hair stylist told me I had "high school bangs"...straight across. He pushed them to the side and it made a world of difference! So classy!

@@vivi549 Hi Vivi👋! The answer your to your question is no. Perming doesn't change your color at all.
However, you do not want to perm colored hair, especially adding highlights or ANY color that lightens (bleaches) your hair color at all, because it WILL FRY your hair!
I have the exact same type of hair as Bonnie. If you're interested in someone who has Bonnie's hair type and had several regular perms, body waves "body perms", tried everything for volume & lots of color changes, read on. If not, you have your answer & I wish you a safe & blessed weekend 😄❣️
I've done bleaching, highlights & lowlights, textured cuts, layers, all kinds of stuff through the years to add volume & tried nearly every product type to add volume to my hair, even just bangs.
I have only achieved any volume lasting more than a couple hours from a perm or body wave "body peem". I've had several through the years & they have never changed my color.
The difference that bleaching & perms do is they split, break the hair shaft, allowing hair to bend easier. The perm is a great way to go if you desire lasting volume
Most of the time, I wear mine somewhat curly, its not super curly kinky or super dry (kind of fried) looking. Because I'm somewhat lazy, I rarely want to take more than 5 minutes to style my hair & get out the door. I style mine with a curling gel while it's wet & it ends up looking a wavy all day. If you want to keep a little of the the wet look, you can spray it with hairspray after using gel or mousse.
But I can blow dry with a round brush & even use a curling iron if I really want to take the effort to zush it up for a night out.
Without a perm, my hair will take a curl REALLY well from a curling iron or hot rollers, but the curl falls out VERY quickly & no lasting volume. 🤣.
Crazy. I’ve been considering the perm option just now. I have limp, thin hair but color it. 😢 I guess it’s not a smart idea?

The side swept bangs on Bonnie emphasize her cheekbones so nicely but the body perm would probably address all her concerns. It's a flattering look on her and would make her daily hair care regimen less frustrating.

I love the side swept bangs and both curveballs! I have only one concern about the bangs, and I mention it because I have dealt with the issue. Bonnie mentioned she wears her glasses all the time. Those bangs falling over one eye will cause her to have to constantly clean her glasses. The product and/or natural hair oil in her bangs will transfer to the lens on that side, and there will be a really annoying smudge in the upper part of the lens all the time. Love the video as always! ❤
So true, plus long side swept bangs over eye can be very annoying-they tickle the eye/eyelid and tend to flop into the center of the face, especially if looking down when reading, working at computer, etc..They do look great, however, and I suppose a lot of hair spray would help keep them in place.
All the changes and curveballs look great on her. My fave is the bob.
All of this is totally true! Great point. The way to potentially address this would be to make sure to get enough bend/volume in the bangs to have as much control as possible of them. Mix that with a bit of volume product for a bit if added control and that could help a lot with getting them lifted off the face and sitting on top oof the frames a bit rather than hanging over the lens. With that said, this is all a bit of a matter of payoff. Which would feel better for Bonnie, having a more flattering shape for her face, or less of a potential annoyance from the bangs. Everyone in the situation would have to ask themselves that question then decide what's best for them.
Yes! Sideswept bangs like these can also block peripheral vision, which can cause problems while driving. I also noticed that her glasses already add some width to her face. Designing around and showing after photos based on her first photo would be really helpful to those of us who wear glasses.
Yes, I agree with Debra Pond…I love the styles presented and the sideswept bangs trade off is a personal matter, but I’m always looking to see the glasses wearing model with her new hairstyle WITH the glasses. They can change a whole look or present new challenges one may not have thought of beforehand. Love your videos, Justin. 👍🏻👍🏻
I love the perm idea. The bangs over my eyes would drive me crazy. The last pic makes her so much younger looking. Having poker straight hair myself, it can really age you. I'd love trying a perm, maybe a little more than a body perm...before I go back to short hair. At 69, I'm seriously thinking I'd like to go short again...maybe even gray.

Until I watched this video, I had never heard of a body perm but your suggestion of a body perm for Bonnie is just the best. I know this because back in the late 1960s, I talked a hairdresser into giving my very straight and strong blond hair a perm that would not give me any curls but just some body or bounce. She had never heard of anything like it but did as I asked and the result was just what I wanted, manageable hair. I had forgotten all about it but I will, again, look for a hairdresser who will give a body perm. Thank you, Justin. By the way, I am 83 and my hair has never gone grey but has remained the same blond colour although the texture changed somewhat in my mid sixties.

Justin, I love both of your suggestions. The side swept bangs really soften the angle of her face and highlight her cheekbones. I also think that the body perm would work very well for holding her style in. I have a very similar face shape and hair type as her. Back in the day, (1980's) I would get perms and ninety percent of the time they would be "Poodle Perms" that would fry my fine stick straight hair. I would love to get a perm that would just add some body and texture to my hair! Bonnie, thank you for putting yourself out there for all of us to critique and learn from! I agree with everyone’s commits about the glasses. I’m around the same age and my hair is basically the same and I too wear glasses. I can’t necessarily wear contacts so I stuck with wearing them. It’s so hard to find what would look the best so I was excited to finally see someone who looks like me with the same hair problems.

Love seeing your content again...I think your advice for Bonnie really suits her desires. She can start with moving her part and get a shoulder length trim. Looks great while she continues to grow her hair, if she wants, and I think from what she said a body wave would give her the bend she is looking for.

I’m now 55 and haven’t gotten a body perm since I was in my 20’s but that’s how I used to deal with my fine hair back then. I would blow dry it straight and use a curling iron for some bend. it was so easy to manage. This has got me wondering if maybe I should try a body perm again.🤔

Bonnie could do a perm, if she wants to. I love the Bob haircut with the side moved for a longer side bang. You just answered my question as to what I need to do for my hair. I have had straight fine hair in all different lengths for decades. My gray started coming in a few years back, but I still have so much brown pigment, but it works for me. The gray is giving me some much-needed body and wave. I am now growing my bangs out and my length out after a few years of pixies. I too, have a colic on the left top of my bangs so moving the center to the left will create a win-win situation. I love your ideas and cannot wait to see my hairstylist for my new cut. I like both of the options. But as someone who always wear glasses, by my experience when I finally grew out my bangs I can see your first curveball has a problem. It’s that exact length of bangs that simply won’t stay nicely. I have the same hair type as she does. That bang length will drive her nuts. The bangs either need to be longer or shorter. So I think she should go with #2. I’ve had that body perm and it works great and holds for quite some time. It’s not all that much maintenance.
You're definitely not off. The length o the bangs could go a bit shorter or longer. The suggestion is more of an idea than an exact representation if that makes sense. Great insight though so thanks for adding it!

I thought as soon as I saw the second curveball that there was a body perm involved! Not a bad idea for someone with Bonnie’s hair type. Also, I love the side swept bangs and I too, struggle with strong cowlicks in front. I am definitely of the dude to side blow dry method for solving that problem because it does really work.

WOW!! I stubble across your video not necessarily looking for a "hair" tip video. BUT, My God you are fantastic, a miracle worker. You have a very keen sense, a trained eye one might say, of how and what can be done.
First, you touch in the #1 issue 'most' women run into as they age; and that is the loss of bone along with loss of fat in our faces. I know there are cosmetic procedures that can help in that area but not realistically for us "normal" folks who aren't movie stars or influencers.
I have the exact opposite hair type of Bonnie. I have very curly (when short) and wavy as my hair grows out. I also gave VERY thick or a LOT of hair. I always warn hair stylist of this when making an appointment that they might need extra time or a second set of hands and it isn't until they see me and start to work on my hair that they say, "you weren't kidding, you really have a lot of hair."
I have been so discouraged with not being able to find someone who has the skill set to give me a decent cut/style. I end up letting it grow (and grow) and looking like "Cousin It" from the Adam's Family. Thank you for sharing your talent. If you were anywhere close to me, I'd be booking an appointment with you asap.

I’m so reassured with your advise here. I’m 67yrs old with straight fine blond, greying hair. I used to get body perm but found adding highlights & lowlights did the same body but seemed to feel healthier. I dry it exactly as you describe, all directions as well as a low heat distant blow upward at the end while lifting roots lightly with fingers. It does wonders. I use L’Oréal professionals mousse before drying it & their hairspray as well. I learned to use my flat iron in a very slight bend while moving quickly which gives my hair so much more body! I lift the hair upward , starting my sweep close to root. The results are not dramatic but Just enough for me. I have a blunt cut at shoulder length with only light crown layers, with light, long fringe bangs. Thanks for your videos! I learn a lot and enjoy the before & after’s.
My wife and I always enjoy your client sessions. Bonnie looks great in both styles but we think the first style is our favorite because she indicated cost was an issue for her.

I loved Bonnie's hair post body perm. I have thin hair, cowlicks, and no body, so my hair has always been a toss up of what I will get any particular day. I do color and have for years so had to choose perm or color. But thanks a million, I am enjoying your videos.
I love these videos and have tried a few of these suggestions, so thank you. My hair stylist 100% discouraged a perm and actually had the look of fright in her eyes when I mentioned it, 😅.

I always love your videos, ideas and your attitude. I realized recently that anything that is unflattering (out of style, not cute....), we say is "aging." Everything that is flattering is "youthful." I'm trying to use "flattering" and "unflattering" more often, now that I'm aware of this language, but it's hard!

I cannot stand my hair if I don't have a perm and we are same age! I'm due now after prob about 14 mos. Personally I love curls, as a by product the body in my long fine yet thick hair is a must!! Have suggested the body wave/perm to a couple others that weren't happy with their style and Yes - those words have a negative emotion for most.. 😂

Do the perm!!! I had a perm done last summer. My thyroid went crazy, and I lost about ⅓ of my hair. I had it cut shorter, to give the illusion of fullness, and the stylist hacked it. The only way I could cover up the uneven layers, was with curls. I've had about 4 inches of growth in the last 10 months, and my curl is still beautiful. I'll likely get it touched up at the 1 year mark.

I like the blow drying tip for the fringe, I've been using that for a few years now, also works on my flat crown. Brill classic cut, never fails to flatter. Like this gorgeous lady I don't dye but I'm grey (what I'm born to eventually have,...now!) Mother nature knows best, eh? I reckon with the layers that you talked about, alot of practice at round brush blow drying and c shaping with irons, she may not need the body perm? But, if not,. She's not over processed, as no dye so, won't hurt to try a body perm. One of your best vids. Lots of love ❤
I’m glad you presented the body perm - I have been wondering about this. It seems that perm is a dirty word these days, but I imagine they are quite different than the glorious days of the 80’s! If only I could find a proper hair stylist! I know that he or she is out there!

Love the perm option for Bonnie. Her natural color is pretty, so leave that alone. As for controlling the bangs, I learned a trick from another youtuber... spray the bangs underneath. I sort of tilt my head until my bangs move away from my forehead and then spray underneath. It's been a game changer. Love the suggestions Justin. And Bonnie, you're a beautiful lady. Good luck!

Justin, another great video! Bonnie is a lovely woman. She seems to have a very low maintenance and effortless vibe. The first curve ball might be best suited for her. I am curious if perming her hair in order to achieve the second curve ball style would alter her hair color...? Thank you for addressing problem bangs. I struggle with them, have tried to grow them out, but they just want to fall forward if they are not long enough to pull back (and have an unflattering curl pattern when I let them dry naturally). I will dig into your styling tips before I decide to have them lopped off again.

I’ve made a project out of the right cut, style etc and once in place … it’s a cinch. Chin length, a few layers , stacked a bit in the back… and my hair is brunette with a few highlights . I’m 75 yrs old and want to stay looking younger for as long as I can ….
I do use some gel and big curling iron for my lift and bend .
Takes me 15 mins start to finish and it’s great .
A good cut for your particular hair …. is key.

Think she should try a cut (diff part, bangs & rounded bob in back)try product, blow dry, “C” hair straightening technique. THEN go to volume perm.
The cut & side swept bang go a long way to giving her a more youthful look. Bonnie - you have beautiful skin!
