Finally, an ACTUAL tutorial on the 1940's style victory rolls. I've see a lot of copy cats who think they're doing that style but they actually look more like devil's horns, they use a curling iron instead of curlers, and don't section the hair right. Yours look great!
“devil’s horns” made me cackle
@@elina437 Lol. Seriously though look up other youtube tutorials and you won't see nice rolls using half the hair on the head. Instead you'll see just the pieces on the top of the head and they put them too far apart. They look like horns.
@@6thgraderfriends Using a modern curling iron to do *most* 40s hairstyles just results in something that looks like it came out of the film Cry Baby. It can be cute, but very rockabilly and I prefer the more authentic stuff!
I totally agree. I have seen so many tutorials on this that at the end they look like they have on a weird cheap wig. I this video did a very good job of making the curls look vintage. I also love that this video is less complicated then most I have seen.
I think a lot of those are rockabilly/pinup style, which is derivative of classic 40s victory rolls, but isn’t meant to look soft or authentically vintage. I prefer the more authentic styles of the 40s, but every once in a while I like to do the rockabilly way. As my friend says “rockabilly is where the punks and goths went when they grew up”, which I think is hilarious, but also insightful. It’s an edgier look. I think it can look very snazzy.
I am new here, and so glad I found your channel. I'm in my 60's and my parents were born in 1921 and 1925. My Dad was in WWII and came home from the war and married my mom. I love that you show all about that time. Thank you so much. My mom wore her hair just like yours in this video.... You are very beautiful.... I will be watching your channel❤️❤️❤️
So adorable! I can just picture you with this fabulous hair style attending to your ill patients in an a pressed white nurses dress! Like you just stepped out of the war! Well done video!
Wait is she a nurse in real life?
@@Emily_urgle she's in Uni for her nurse's degree (whatever it's called in Aus.)
@@brittany45 I can't wait until she's an official nurse :D
@@brittany45 okay thank you for the clarification 🙂
@@brittany45 Oh, that’s exciting!! Good for Sage!! I’m a nurse, too. I worked in a neonatal unit; I retired last October.
Sage ~ You are truly so lovely and refreshing in a world gone mad!
My mother had a similar hair style during the war in old photos.Still have a ship in the bottle from 42 that was gifted to her with a picture of her from the 40s.
Amazing video! My great aunt styled her hair almost exactly like that in the 1940s. She always did her hair so nicely until she got sick.
Your victory rolls turned out so well, I think they suit you very much so!! I’ve always struggled with the rolls but you make it look so easy. Also your outfit is gorgeous- especially that cardigan vest 🧶 Another fantastic video, thank you Sage! Hoping you have a fantastic week!
This hair style is pretty!
If you love reading books , multi-generational and a little bit of history , read Kate Morton The Secret Keeper! It’s so good and the first generation of the people/family they talk about ,is in London during world war 2 and they mention victory rolls and red lips. It’s a really really good book!
You look straight out of the 1940's!! Beautiful!
Thank you so much! ❤️
I have a picture of my grandma with this hair style. I love it.
Your videos are the highlight of my Saturday evenings! Absolutely love your content - such a lovely respite from the cares of the world. ❤
Oh Sage this video is so special. I was born in 1944 and as a little girl this is how my mother wore her hair for years. She had brown hair but after a few years she dyed it red like yours for awhile so this brings me so many memories of my mother back in those years. I didn't realize how much I loved that look until I saw you in it. I remember her mother visited us once . (She lived in another state ) and grandma rolled her hair all over. Even the back was rolled. This was in the 50s and I thought her hair was short until I saw that she had rolled it all over even in the back. I watched her do it up and I remember it took a lot of pins. But I loved the one my mother wore it was just like yours.
I love your videos so much. Nothing like watching you with some hot tea. So beautifully peaceful ❤️
That means so much Mala, thank you! ☺️💞😘
@@SageLilleyman thank you so much for creating something new and different every week. Your channel has such a calming influence on me in such a noisy world. 🌹 I can't wait for your beautiful chickens to start their own channel. 🤗
Beautiful!! Love this hairstyle! Yours is a much more authentic look than other YTers.
I always thought it was a difficult-to-do style but you make it look so easy. I'm all thumbs with my hair 🤭.
Thank you for sharing this! Especially with all of your tips!
Do you think you will do some more 1940s stuff? Maybe a day or week in the life of a 40s housewife? Don't get me wrong -- I love the 50s but the 40s are so interesting as well.
How are Mable and Maud?
Excellent tips and demo!! Plus, your voice is what a smile sounds like. Your videos always make me happy! Thank you!!
This girl is absolutely adorable!
Real cute. My grandmother still does her hair this way.❤
Your hairstyle turned out so cute.😊
Victory Rolls are the cutest one you! I never do them because I have bangs, but now I kind of want to figure out a way to have victory rolls AND bangs!
I am definitely doing this hair for a D-Day festival I'm going to tomorrow!
Also, I know this video is a little older but a good tip for anyone using hair spray on curls is to use the can itself to smooth the spray onto the hair rather than your hands as it gives a nice finish and bonus you don't get sticky hands!
This is so beautiful 😍😍 I have to wait awhile until my hair grows long enough for this style, but I love the aesthetic of the 1940s. You wear it so well and look stunning!
Yep. That's a damn good victory roll right there. 👍
Just so glamorous ❤️ I’ve always loved this hair do!
Looks Great! 😍 It also looked so cute when you first took the bobby pins out; like Shirley Temple 😊❤
Can you make a video about what you wear to nursing school such as scrubs, hairstyles, and makeup? As a fellow nurse, I love the vintage look but I'm having a hard time portraying it at work. Thank you!!
Hi Sage. I love the victory rolls. I think it's so cute. I like 30s and 40 hairstyles. They changed alot in that decade. Thank you so much for the video sweetie 😘💞❤
❤️ I have a 20s bob right now but cannot wait to try this when my hair grow out!
Your just a breath of fresh air!! SO LOVELY 😍 💖 💕
This is one of those I didn't know I wanted to know how this was done until you showed me. That's what I like about your channel!
it's so fun to discover one's favorite vintage era..mine is the 1910's! It's amazing how much clothing changed every decade through the years
we seriously need more accounts like yours! i am young but i love the vintage fashion and life style. i am also a fellow australian so if you happen to know shops that sell vintage clothing please tell me. I hope you continue making this type of content! :)
I will try this one day thank you Sage! I’m getting a little better in my pin up hair. I just have thin hair especially on top so it might be harder to try this hair style but I can try! Thank you lovely 😘 ♥️
So stunning I have complete hair envy!
Saaame 🥺😪
You sort of remind me of Lily James!! I love your hair so much, please never stop making hair tutorials 💕💕💕
Please do a 1950s autumn/ Halloween vlog 🎃
I love how she said frizzies
I love your furniture in the background too
Your curls look so pretty and 'tidy', even before you do the brush out. I'm still in the 'bushy mess' stage of learning to do pin curls 😆. Can't wait, till my hair is long enough to try real vintage dos.
So cute!!! you did amazing and I love how nice and adorable the hairstyle looks on you!
Sage, You are adorable. I enjoy watching your videos. Thank you for sharing your passion and slice of history.
That looks really nice. Kinda gives me Princess Daisy's vibes
Rolls not holes! Love this tutorial 💞💞💞
Yay! I’ve been waiting for a someone to do a video that I can actually follow and understand 😂
(great job👍🏽💙)
Years ago, I followed a different tutorial for victory rolls (gosh, probably before RUclips was around). It did not suggest back combing or curling first and I had so much trouble with my hair slipping. I’ll definitely try again doing it this way!
Let me know how it goes if you try it! Xx
Hands down the 40’s were the most glamorous years for fashion.
I've ALWAYS wanted to do Victory Rolls!!! You make me feel like I can. Thank you so much, Sage!!! You look amazing! 💜💜
You can do it!! Thank you so much! 💞☺️
Sage, when you had your normal hair in the begining you looked so different. But I love your hair with the barrel rolls. And it does look easy. Thank you for sharing this make over. Love your videos.
Lovely! Mine never set right!! 😩
My grandma wore her hair like that ♡
Love this hair style. ❤️🙂🥰
This is super cute!! Soon I should try this out!!
How lovely! Your hair looks super cute!
Absolutely stunning! 😍
I love your1940s hair style on you😊 great tutorial!
What a great video!! Thank you for showing us how to achieve this beautiful style!! Love your channel so much!! ❤️
Thank you so much! 💕😊
Very pretty! Love it!
Now I just need to figure out how to do this without the ratting!
I just love this! So beautiful, prim and proper 💕❤️
Yay! Doing a dress up day next month, and I have my great grandmother’s dress from the 40’s, I can’t wait to pair this with it!🤗
Also new to the channel, have you mentioned where you like to find curlers?
Hello! 😊 That sounds like it will be a marvellous outfit and hairstyle!
You can find foam rollers on Amazon or eBay and maybe even some beauty supply stores! I hope this helps xx
@Sage Lilleyman definitely checking it out! Thanks so much🤗
how come when you do victory rolls you look like a gorgeous 1940s housewife from a magazine and when I do them I look like a nightmare from the '80s
Ikr? It looks so easy, when someone else does it...and then you try it yourself...😆
You look so elegant, Sage and you don’t even have to try at all! 😍💜
You are too kind! ❤️💕
@@SageLilleyman absolutely mean it 💜💜💜
Now I feel like there’s hope for me! Didn’t even realize I wasn’t using enough hair and having the rolls touch so it’s much more secure!
I loved this video very much but my hair is short and permed so I can't try the hairstyle. Your hair at the end looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing these kind of videos with us.
Love this hairstyle!! 😀
Ah, Sage, you make it look so easy! 😍 I'll have to give it a try again someday using your tutorial. Last time I attempted pin curls, I ended up looking like Little Orphan Annie.
Very well done tutorial, thank you!
One of the only times I'm loving my natural Sherly Temple hair RN
Excellent video. I can’t do this myself as my hair is so fine and thin it just doesn’t work. I did try it hour in the hope that maybe, just maybe I could get away with it. No such luck. It helps to have thick hair.
You’re just so lovely and sweet. I love watching your videos and hearing you talk it always makes my day !!! 💗
Just lovely & feminine! Love the era.
Perfect!! Looks really great Sage🎀doesn’t look hard at all💕☕️🏡👗❤️❤️
This was wonderful as always Paige !
Beautiful hair!! 😉🙏❤️
Great hairstyle !!
Love, love, love your tutorial!!! ❤You are so sweet and adorable. I’m going to check out more of your videos 😊
Beautiful Sage 💕
Very beautiful!!
Well done! But with all the wartime shortages, how readily was hairspray available?
Super cute!
Lovely.. thanks for the share
So Lovely!! Question, I have LONG naturally curly hair would I still need to per-set my hair the night before & do you have a special hair cut/style to get this look?
you could do the victory rolls though I'm not 100% sure how the back would turn out. I don't have naturally curly hair so I don't really know how/if a brushout would work on hair that's naturally curly. you'll have to experiment. Another option would be to do a Gibson roll in the back to achieve a similar look if the brush out doesn't work the way you want.
I'm in a similar situation to yours... Long hair past my waist, natural ringlet curls. I really don't want to re-curl what's already there! 😂
@@dwieselmcallister I have layers in front & do my best to reshaping my curly into the 40's look but the back of it I'm at a lost. I just leave it as a low messy bun
Wow, the style looks so nice on you. Hugs from Montana
heyy sorry i missed the last couple videos i judt got my stiches out on thursday last week from my surgery and i havent had time to watch but keep up the good work
This style really looks nice on you. Mine don't come out like that!
Very cute! 😊
Love this tutorial! I am a 1940's fan so this was awesome! Is there a certain place you can buy vintage clothes? I know you make a lot of them but I cant sew.
Hey sage! Was wondering where your green sweater vest is from? Great video 💗
Love the hair
Hi Sage. I live the victory rolls they really suit you.Marie
I stumbled upon your videos about a month ago. I absolutely love them! And you!
Would you mind sharing with me where you get your rouge? And what color it is?
I am the same fare skin as you and it looks so natural.
How on earth do you get your lip stick to stay on??!! I got the iconic Revlon fire and ice lip stick and it goes evrywhere and doesn't ever stay on no matter what I do!😫 Any advice? Maybe a video😂😂😂 by the way the hairstyle is LOVELY😍🥰
I don’t know if you will see this but I hope so ,I’ve watched all your videos ,however I have really thick and loose wave hair .Can it work for thick hair too ??
Absolutely! You might just need to use less hair for the rolls than I did though 😊
Lovely video 🥰 Just out of curiosity, what book are you reading in the end? I'm always on the lookout for a good book haha ☺️
Thank you!! ☺️ Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen! 💕
@@SageLilleyman As an Austen fan, that makes me happy 😊
6:49 *woo so cute* i totally agree
Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you for watching! 💕
Very beautiful.
Oh I like your hair long and straight perfect
I have very long, thick hair. I’m wondering if pin curls would still look like that, even if there’s a lot of hair. By long I mean a little bit above my navel, and by thick I mean THICK. I’m so happy I discovered your channel! Much love ❤️
I know this is older and you may not see this but how do you keep your curls so smooth!? No matter what style I do everything comes out fuzzy!
Lots of brushing until all the frizzy hair is tamed! 💕
@@SageLilleymanthanks for the response! if I did that I would brush it straight! Lol. Any suggestions on the best brush to use? Also thanks so much for the tutorial, this is the first time my victory rolls came out looking good!
Thank you❤❤❤
Hi
What type of hairbrush do you use?
