- How to do easy Victory Rolls in minutes. Iconic 1940's pin up hairstyles. The latest 1940's hair tutorial by Tia Semer.
During WW2, the popular victory hair rolls were playfully adopted by many women. The term victory hair was coined by actress Lana Turner. She named her pin curls hairstyle after the aerobatic victory rolls made by some dare devil pilots. You can see it in the film Somewhere I'll find you in 1942.
Soon Betty Grable adopted them and made them famous. Bobby pin brands brought out Victory hair pin sets galore.
It's the perfect rockabilly hair style. Also lovely wedding hair.
All you need is a mirror, a brush, a comb and some trusty bobby pins.

Ever since I saw this video I’ve been wearing my hair this way. I realize there’s a lost art of these beautiful every day hairstyles. People ask me about my hair all the time! I have this channel to thank.
Joi Robb you look so beautiful and very sexy.
Joi Robb did you graduate from high school back in 2006?
Joi Robb were you born in 1988?
Joi Robb do you wear a Size 10 Shoe, Flip Flop, and Slide?
I love that you are a black wi an doing this. I don’t feel alone being a black girl wanting to try vintage styles
Thank you for making this simple to understand and for NOT talking for 20 minutes to show us a 5 minute hairstyle! Great tutorial!
OMG u just save my life! I have a party tomorrow, and I have my vintage dress, but I can't find a good video to teach me how to do vintage hair. And then this video came out... Blessing ❤️ thanks again!
enjoy your party!!
It was meant to be!! How did it work for you? What was the most difficult part of doing this hairstyle? ❤
This hairstyle is so difficult to me, never achieved the wanted look. 🤦🏻♀️ But the lady in the tutorial does it so effortlessly.
I haven't even watched the video yet but I'm already pumped
Watching this video made me realize that, based on the amount of work put into them, 40's hairstyles ominously portended the bangs of the 80's. 😄
Nice! Very pretty. You make it seem so effortless. I faintly remember my mother still wearing her hair like this when I was very young. Then she switched over to just teasing and then using hair spray to the point where even hurricane winds couldn't move her hair. 😄
Pretty hairstyle and beautiful hair colour. My daughter has to make a 1940’s hairstyle for school. Hope it will look as nice as yours 🙏
Thank you, Glam. The effortless look achieved in the final product defines elegance and grace. The effort put in to these vintage hairstyles is one of the intangibles Women contribute that often go overlooked and unappreciated. I do believe I could have nearly finished shaving, showering and dressing in the time it would have taken for her to finish just her hair. It looks lovely and I appreciate it.
Looking forward to your next.
I'm learning and I love it. . I love these hairstyles of yesterday.
Your makeup is so perfect and dramatic, and you have such a lovely face and profile!
I was curious on how they did this and made it look so well, and have it last throughout the day, all the other videos were near 12 minutes long but this one was quick and easy. Thank you!
I love the music!
I will have to try this out.
So much style so much beauty .!
Perfect. Looks great you have the face for this hair style
Very beautiful! I"ll try tomorrow
Easy tutorial and such a pretty lady 💕
This was easy to follow and to the point. Thank you.
ElizaCosmetics (sorry idk if your name is Eliza) makes the tutorials look so simple!! I guess I'll finally give the victory rolls a trt.
I'm doing this for school tomorrow
This is so gorgeous!
Great job 👍
so beauty!!
Returning to my Roots of the 1940's! I'm 52 in May LOL
Yay! Finally early!! Great tutorial!!
Love your videos and your channel keep up the great work 👍
nice , i like the old fashion up dos styles .. more luxury and artistic .. kisses from Mexico .
So sad that I fond this video only today (oh god it appeared not so much time ago)... I wanted such hairstyle for my prom (my prom look was something about these years), I thought that there's nothing difficult in it, I went to the hairdresser and asked her to do such hairstyle, but she did something strange and difficult! I looked silly, but there was no more time to do something. Who could ever think that this hairstyle may be done at home...
Wonderful 😍👏
That's good colorized footage from the 40's
You know that that wasn't filimed in the 40s right lol

So pretty 🌺
Thank you!!
l try this hairstyle on my hair, thank you
Pretty
I love it
YESSSSS
Can you do a 50s hairstyle tutorial? Thanks?p!
Yes please
Love it❤
You’re the best
There’s just no better hair styles than 1940’s. Just my opinion but it’s true.
the song playing is lovely. any chance anyone knows the credit? thanks
I would take forever to make my rolls symetrical. Of course, that is not how all women wore their hair in the 1940s. You took the mystery out of the process.
Класс красива здорово 👌👍💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐
What are the song titles for the background music?
The second one is "Who's Yehoodi?" (1940). Hadn't heard it before! Wikipedia says there was a joke attached to its composition.
First one is cocktails & oolala by Carolyn grey
Same
The video hasn't even started and I already know I wouldn't be able to do that to my hair successfuly
Youre sooo prettyyy
I don't know if it's because I have really fine slippery hair but I'm really struggling to make it neat. I'm sure it's easy really but I can't seem to get it right
Crush for the grandfathers in those times😅😅😅😅
Mom used a thick pencil
To do the roll .
Can you show how to set
Your hair in curls you roll around
finger & pin flat to hear & hold
With 2 crisscross bobby pins.
Used on short or medium hair.
On your longer hair, in 1945, Mom
would roll it up wet, using cotton strips, like from a man's t-shirt,
, & just tie the end together, with a basis knot. They called it rolling hair up in "rags" !!
... it's easier to used toddler size streachy Socks,
to curl , put tip of hair in middle if clean sock, &
Roll it, like seen here, then tie the 2 ends of the sock
Together, in a knot,
to hold in place. It's comfortable
To sleep in, til dry. It gives a long lasting curl ! Roll it up a third for less curls, roll higher to scalp for tight curls .
Thanks for this info! For the rag curls, did your mom roll her hair up (like in this video, although these are rolls) or under (like in most vintage setting patterns I see)?
@@streetofdreams4538
She was born in 1920, wed 1945,
worked as secretary to help Dad through
Pharmacy, & had beautiful hair do's.
.she only rolled hers up to near or above shoulder.
Often did the pencil type rolls, like you did, on
The top, & the full curls hung to ear, or below,
with sleek hair above it .
She rolled childrens hair up higher, & usually made
PigTail with the curls, & we wore short 1950s bangs.
Yu can control the amount &
type of curl by the size & chunk of hair, sectioned & put in the "rag" .
I did my daughters hair like this in the 80s.
Mom rolled her her under, & she had thick Auburn hair .
@@juliaarmes6932 Thanks!
@@streetofdreams4538 you're welcome.
See Ginger Rogers style in 1940 film,
Primrose Path (-with Joel Mccrea), & it looked
like those curls, but the top was like your video.
Can someone tell me the name of this song please?
General Relativity iconoclasm back with another backing track shift. Start at 1:20 (of the following) and then begin. ruclips.net/video/9NIj4Xm6-98/видео.html
can you please write down the song in the background? 📀
@glamourdaze please i am searching so long for it!
the second song is who's yehoodi 1940s
The first song is cocktails & oolala by Carolyn grey
Is it the same woman as the woman in
this your video: "Authentic 1920's Flapper Hair and Makeup Tutorial
"?
The rolls should be closer together on top of head.
She's got sideburns. I'm not a fan of them.
