  • A rare vintage makeup and beauty tutorial film circa 1946 presented to a group of high school girls by Ponds beauty consultant Mary Stuyvesant.
"When you face the outside world," she advises "be sure to put your best face forward!"
There follows one of the most in depth vintage makeup tutorials ever made.
The lecture begins with a lesson on skincare ( Ponds cold cream available in large doses here).
Then on to the business of makeup. "The first step is a smooth base!"
There follows a step by step tutorial on applying foundation, rouge and lipstick. This is followed by a lesson on choosing the correct hairstyle to suit your face type.
We uploaded this popular film in sections about 5 years ago.
Here it is now available worldwide in all its glory .

@robinjdev16 I do that. It's actually better than putting brown contour. If you're in front of a camera, brown contour makes your face look stylized, but if you're outside in the real world, it makes you look dirty af. So for contouring I use blush (not all the way to the eyes, but on the tip and sides of the nose), it looks more natural, cute and also works. ❤️

Since most people use foundation instead of vanishing cream it’s practically unheard of now days. The best one available is made by Bèsame Cosmetics but most moisturisers work as a reasonable substitute. The difference is a proper vanishing cream makes the makeup easier to remove at the end of the day, because instead of being absorbed like a moisturiser it gives the makeup something to grip onto.

+meowieberry Even today, colleges and the workplace only cater to full time workers and don't consider that a woman is /expected/ to cook and clean and take care of the babies. People don't tend to imagine a man that works full time but he also needs to make time to go home and cook and bathe the kids. That sort of expectation still exists, sadly.
However, I think that a college course for grooming(that is optional, of course. as most courses are chosen by the student) would be beneficial. A lot of people struggle with hygiene, and don't know how to dress up for job interviews, work places, or even dates.

For real, like girl this is the BEST time to be alive because not only do we have every single eras' aesthetics to choose from, but we have all of them at our disposal at all times because of the internet. If you want that 1940's look, grab some Pond's cold cream, powder foundation, a beeswax lipstick, cream rouge, and Besame 1940's recreation cream mascara. Personally, I like to bounce around picking up inspiration from the 1900s, 1920s, and 1960s and sometimes combining them in various ways. It's really sad that there are so many people who think they're locked into 2020 Western ideals of beauty just because they live in 2020.

Cold Cream - Lush Cosmetics “9 to 5” Cleansing Lotion (Lush Cosmetics “Like a Virgin” is very similar, but comes in a soap-bar form)
Liquifying Cream - Dickinson’s Enhanced Witch Hazel Deep Cleansing Astringent
Good Astringent/Skin Freshener - Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Cucumber, and Green Tea comes in a spray bottle, but can be dabbed on
Dry Skin Cream - Lush Cosmetics “Skin’s Shangri LA” is a GODSEND of a moisturizer
Makeup Pact - It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Anti-Aging Finishing Powder works great for this.
Vanishing Cream - Lush Cosmetics “Vanishing Cream” is wonderful!
Rouge, Lipstick, and Loose Powder - Bésame Cosmetics creates vintage-esc makeup inspired by real products that existed in this era. You’ll have to check out their site yourself for a product that’ll suit your skin!
    Have a nice day :)

I actually adore this kind of makeup tutorials. Like, straightforward and simple. Most tutorials these days, you have to go through 3 minutes of "Hey, guys! So I was walking outside the other day blah blah blah I saw this beautiful product blah blah check out their product blah blah..." before you get to the actual tutorial.
Also, no offense but I like makeup like this tbh. More than modern styles. I am basically ugly and whenever I try cat eye, strong brows, and Kylie lips I just look ridiculously... like an ugly drag queen. I tried this makeup style once and its simplicity made me relatively prettier. My grandma taught me this and it's probably the style I'll accept. 💙💙💙

My2ndnephew WWII just ended. Women didn’t wear much eye makeup during the war, the ingredients that went into making eye makeup were used for the war effort, and if you found it, it was very expensive. So, instead, they used a little mascara, eyebrow pencil, and rouge and lipstick. That’s why very dark full lips were popular, also women wore their hair longer. Plus I believe this is presented for women who are in their late teens/early 20s, I imagine college age.

there is nothing new in the cosmetics world. you can find wonderful treatments, and additives that they now celebrate as new and fresh. i went to beautyschool and they showed us a video from the 80ies and they explained ingredients we thaugt were "new"... people forget and there are always new trends. the only thing that changes is the way to put on make up because the quality really changed in a positive way, in the 70ies still the make up was very greasy like theatre make up or camouflage. so you had different routines. and in theatreand film and they did contouring for dakades, its not just since kim k. i learned it too and this was years before kim k.

    People here are so dumb.
"I wish makeup was like this now instead of clownish."
    - Do your makeup how you want, it's your face just how it's someone else face, so they can do it how they want.
"I was born in the wrong time.."
    - Only rich females had makeup and it only had few shades; for the pale, slightly less pale, or pink tones. Females had no rights and were looked at as male property, sickness was mostly uncured, racism was more prominent because it wasn't rights with poc, and it was many wars.

    • @eurydicewaltz5063
      @eurydicewaltz5063 6 лет назад +683

When people say "I was born in the wrong time" they usually mean they wish things like this were still acceptable. Nowadays if you had a Transatlantic accent, called blush 'rouge', wore dresses and heels everywhere you went, and listened to Kay Starr people would call you a fucking weirdo. Funny I do all of those things. However yes you are correct, I wonder how many of those people realize they'd be living during World War II. Imagine not being able to buy balloons for your birthday because of a helium shortage, lol.
And with the makeup thing, I agree people should wear their makeup however they fucking please and no body should tell them otherwise. That doesn't, however, mean that they shouldn't have an opinion. I personally think these women wear wayyyy too much highlighter, they look like fucking torches. But I'm not going to tell them to wipe they shit off because if they think they look hot as shit, who am I to them any different? People already have enough self- esteem issues.

I've been using Pond's Extra Rich Dry Skin Cream (the original formula with the baby blue top) since 1969!! Yep, that's right ..... 1969!!! I use this moisturizer every morning before makeup. It has served me extremely well over the years and nothing else that I've tried has ever compared for my before-makeup morning moisturizer. In the evening, I use much higher end/luxury cleansers, treatments, serums and moisturizers. I'm so grateful to the Pond's company for not changing their original formula and keeping it available all these years. So, as others have said here ... it's 2015 and I STILL am using Pond's!!!

Just stick to one color that matches your skin undertone and add hues of a coordinating color to add texture and depth! And omg if you are black or Asian please do not dye your hair blonde!

Contouring already looks retarded to anyone with an IQ higher than 60. If you are Kim Kardashian doing a professional shoot, it makes sense to contour because it has an effect with the bright flash of photos. If you're a regular woman going to work, you look retarded with brown stripes down your cheeks and nose -- it doesn't fool the regular eye, you dumbasses, it only fools the camera.

Not really any different than what you'll find today though. In fact, I'd say it's worse. I can't tell you how many online articles I've scrolled past about "the best haircut for your face shape", "what clothes to wear with your body type", or "what colours look best with your skin's undertone (and what to avoid)".
And today, vanishing cream, powder, and lipstick aren't enough as the perfect face anymore. For the ideal "flawless" look, you now also need to use primer, color correction, and contour. Your brows should be perfectly groomed and filled in, as apparently they frame your entire face. Your lashes probably aren't long or dark enough to bring good character to your eyes, so you'll want to curl them, wear mascara, and use an eyeliner as well. You don't want your lipstick to bleed, so add in a lip liner too. Then, seal it all in with a setting spray, so everything you just put on your face doesn't melt when you go anywhere with temperature above 70 degrees. Literally, hundreds and hundreds of strict dos and don'ts are still in practice today, people are just more hush-hush about their existence. At least back in the time of this video, they were upfront about it...

@@RR4711 Respect for parents and elders shouldn’t always count though because some parents and elders are horrible and use that as an excuse so that younger people have to deal with all kinds of abuse an idea that’s been used for centuries

    • @laylachristina5605
      @laylachristina5605 2 года назад +13

@@di7209 people seem to confuse respect with being submissive. Some parents and elders are the worst kind out there, but we can still respect them as we respect a stranger, saying: good morning, please and thank you. Once I met an officer who would even arrest thieves with respect, he knew those guys were so used to agressive actions and name-calling, that respect was the his best weapon to win any time of argument. Having one really bad and agressive parent, sometimes I would be so angry that I would scream and curse, but after some time I just wanted to stay away and in peace, and if I ever saw them again I just would say the basics and go on with my life, turn out being and ass only make us more like them.
