Watching this made me curious about the active ingredient they mentioned AT-7. Apparently it was horribly dangerous:( “Hexachlorophene, the active ingredient in Dial, was removed from the consumer market and strictly limited in the hospital setting in the early 1970s amid reports that it caused neurological damage in infants”
The stuff really worked though, apparently. After they stopped using it, there was an outbreak of staph infections in hospital nurseries across the US. It's still in use, but not without a prescription.
It's mostly been replaced by the use of chlorhexidine in modern medicine and really isn't necessary in common topical use. The reason for the staph outbreak was likely because the use of antibacterials disrupts the commensal microbiome of the skin. This flora imbalance allows opportunistic infections by microbes like S.Aureus, which typically inhabit the skin nonpathogenically.
Kristen Roers Very interesting! I used Golden Dial soap on my face for all of my teens and early 20's in the 1970's and 80's in order to fight acne (didn't work!) I finally found Clinique 3-Step skin care and my skin was 100 percent better!! My point is that I didn't know about any danger posed by Dial soap!!
Hm, yeah, but according to Wikipedia hexachlorophene was 'a useful as a topical anti-infective, anti-bacterial agent' in soaps and toothpastes and that it was ALSO used ' in agriculture as a soil fungicide, plant bactericide, and acaricide.' So I wonder wether the problem with toxicity wasn't with the ingestion of the stuff in large amounts because it was used on food? Because some poisons are perfectly harmless when used on the skin but damaging when ingested.
“This hair is a shapeless bush.” Story of my life. 😔😔😔 Also this was relaxing af. Also highly motivating as I now feel like a dirty, lumpy, clogged-pore shapeless bush in desperate need of a vigorous scrubbing. And some Dial soap.

When I’m at my grandmas she always tells me sit straight, stand straight, keep your feet close always. It’s gotten to the point that when I go to her house I try to look my best and have a good posture but usually I slip and she goes off that I will have a hunch back when I get older
Something she said really made me think. When I see a bold lip or eye on a girl I usually think it looks really cool but I never notice the girl just the cool makeup. Don't know what it means just thought it was curious
Whatever Goes I think people today are trying to make unique statements with makeup, whereas back then they wore makeup to meet aesthetic standards and fit in.

Thank you for the video. I suppose 1951 was the year that Dial soap was introduced. It's still on the market, without the hexachlorophene, of course, but remains a popular brand to this day.
Her bathroom was the bomb! On another note. When I was s teenager my mother took me the dermatologist because of my acne. He told me to form a thick white paste on my face with Dial soap. Then let it sit until it dries. Wash off, repeat five times a week. That was 1982.
I think this is what's known as a peignoir set; a gauzy, slinky nightgown with a matching light robe to go over it. Think high heeled slippers with tufts of feathers. The kind of thing you want your husband or significant other to see you in when you get up. Flirty, but in a nice way.

People say I’m crazy but this is true: I wash my underarms, feet, and between my legs with dial and unless it’s very hot and I’m going to be sweating, I am perfectly clean smelling without deodorant! If I’ve been out sweating or getting really dirty I will wash all over first with dial then my regular body wash and loofah. She mentioned it in here, and I was taught as a child by my mom, body odor is caused by bacteria and not the act of sweating. Also, when my aunt had acne as a teen she said a dermatologist told her washing with dial will kill the acne germs on your face too. Just use a good moisturizer afterwards. I will do that occasionally or if I get a breakout and my skin stays acne free. My husband tries to tell me I’m killing good germs too and being too clean is bad for my immune system, but I have great skin and rarely ever get sick. And after taking a microbiology class in college my insistence on hand washing was confirmed! Another thing my mom preached was cross contamination.
I always have used dial or Ivory, I can’t stand anything else. Just not a clean feeling. Brushing brings down the sebum from your scalp all the way down to the ends of your hair. Lukewarm water and tapping the face instead of rubbing are actually very good tips
Skin care has been getting very popular recently. Especially Korean skincare, maybe people around you don't care. Look at some popular magazines, I garentee there's a page about skincare
Because in the ’50s women were pressured more to be ”Caretakers of a domestic haven” for their husbands. An ugly woman wasn't someone a husband would want to come home to. It was less about respect and representation and presentation and more about being inviting and helpful to men. People haven't really let themselves go, it's just that when you have 3 essays to write, school to get to, and other obligations that aren't soap related, you're less likely to fail English class just so you can do a long ass beauty routine.

It is interesting to see the still strong 1940's influence on the hair and fashion in this. The New Look is omitted here, in spite of the date.
Aliarose C the new look wasn’t worn by the average woman who bought drugstore soap which is what this is marketing to.

Dirt isn't the problem. It's overproduction of oil and sebum, and when it gets trapped, you have a whitehead or blackhead. What you need is an extractor- a little wand thing with a wire loop on the end. Look for "Dr Pimple Popper" here on RUclips, and see how she treats blackheads!
Also, as well as eating real food, drinking plenty of WATER (not coffee or soda) helps your body deal with stuff on it's own.
