This was The Body Shop's own brand 'fronted' by Barbara Daly & called 'Colourings'. It was one of, if not the first cruelty free beauty brand in the world. Due to this & its affordable price level, some of it wasn't great to use, the foundation wasn't great, it didn't cover very well & needed very careful application. The blue sponge was unhelpful as the surface was very open & it could leave streak marks if you weren't careful, the powder was rather talcy & the concealer was somewhat hard. However, the rest of the range was quite competent, useable & great value, I used some of the brushes for many years. Makeup, due to technology, has improved massively since this, but Babs' tips are still current to this day, everything else is just a passing fad!
Barbara Daly was Princess Diana's make up artist for a while. She did her wedding make up as well. Diana had a fondness for blue eyeliner and blue eyeshadow, because she had blue eyes, but Barbara taught her to use shades of brown instead.

Mmm, well, you don't just get covered in acne by touching your skin with your hands, dirty or otherwise, if that were true, we'd all be covered in spots, it's just best to do it with clean hands. You are far more likely to have problems with sponges or brushes, they need to be washed much more than hands and as hands are free and never wear out, they win every time. Omg why didn’t they show this on tv when I went to school?😅 I personally learnt almost all of these hacks about 5-10 years ago: damp sponge, do an eyeliner with open eyes if they are hooded, blue shadow doesn’t match my blue eyes at all, draw the crease etc etc!
I was 14 in 1983, that is when I started to wear makeup. The makeup was HORRIBLE back then unless you had money and could afford to shop the Estee Lauder counter to have access to the better quality makeup. Most teens knew nothing about the high end counters.Foundation Brushes were not sold at drug stores so most people applied it with their fingers which lead to the "foundation mask" or you used the little sponge applicators or tiny blush brushes that came with the product. Does anyone remember the smell of Covergirl foundation? It had Noxema added for skincare quality. It still may but I don't purchased it anymore.I use to wear purple eyeshadow on my lid with pink in the crease with green on the bottom lashline lol. No contouring with a little pink blush on the cheek and lip. That was the 1980's!
Yes! I tried a covergirl foundation, and the smell was so strong! I loved the smell of the … oh, I can’t remember … Max Factor or Revlon loose powder. That beautiful old-fashioned powdery smell. Pan Stick makeup had a beautiful fragrance, too.
@@RubyTwilite yes! I always thought contouring the nose looks bad because it's actually bringing attention to the nose, when most people try to contour to make it look thinner/smaller, etc. But bringing attention to it does the opposite. 🤷♀️
I lived in the 80’s and started wearing makeup in 1983 - there was no such thing as “natural” makeup. Why didn’t I know about damp sponges? Covergirl stick concealer for everything. This is relaxing.
The “mature” lady with “older” skin hasn’t a single wrinkle on her forehead or eyes! I’m 43 and look 60 with all my lines... I try desperately to look after my skin too! I think she looks incredibly beautiful!!
Well I think she has a few fine lines & signs of age. Skin condition is down to 3 things mainly - Genetics, Diet, Environment. The first one you can't do much about, the second you can, so avoid sugar, consume healthy oils, don't smoke. The third is arguably the most important, but to be successful, you must start early, i.e. in your teens, protect your skin with SPF everyday & avoid excessive sun, use as much skincare as you can be bothered to, a good foundation can also act as a block to the environment, Joan Collins swears by that! If you're having a lot of trouble, it maybe that some or all of these haven't been followed - easily done ;-) If you really care & nothing works, you might benefit from a fresh start, maybe look into chemical or laser resurfacing, there's light to extreme & it could be the answer. There's also home versions, if you feel proficient with this, buy some Lactic Acid, this is the most gentle & doesn't make the skin flake, obviously look into how to do this on the net, but the basics are, dilute a little with water, apply to the face, mind eyes, wait, rinse thoroughly. Repeated use of this will resurface your skin very effectively. Any of this needs to be supported by protection of collagen & elastin, as this may also be your problem as well, poor C&E means the skin has no support & creases, so a good diet, supplements & NO SMOKING or SUN. Don't have botox, it kills the muscles & will eventually lead to more lines & sagging, although a facelift may help. Of course, you could just apply a flattering makeup, as described in this video & be happy with how you are naturally ;-)
And I find the BEST makeup remover is the Purity Made Simple Cleanser by Philosophy. It even removes waterproof mascara and makeup. It’s a gentle gel cleanser that doesn’t sting your eyes. They worked with doctors to formulate it. Cleans the pores very well & I love to use it sometimes with my Clarisonic brush.
This is too funny, I had never seen this before but watched the video trying to pin it down to a year and settled for '88. Which at the end proved correct and spot on. To me this is definetely not " vintage", its not that long ago really. I actually used to buy henna from Body shop & Dewberry oil in 88 when I was 16. Do you really think quality is improved ? I think its about the same, except there are many more brands and fashions have changed. Now early 70s and 60s yes the quality was poorer.

@@RubyTwilite yes! I always thought contouring the nose looks bad because it's actually bringing attention to the nose, when most people try to contour to make it look thinner/smaller, etc. But bringing attention to it does the opposite. 🤷♀️
Ok but the model is STUNNING
Ordinary or regular looking people weren't used back then, if you were doing beauty, you had to look beautiful - I like both ;-)
i fell asleep to this
I feel like I'm watching an ASMR video! Meanwhile, this lady was ahead of her time! You go with your damp sponge and your concealer brush, girl!
I lived in the 80’s and started wearing makeup in 1983 - there was no such thing as “natural” makeup. Why didn’t I know about damp sponges? Covergirl stick concealer for everything. This is relaxing.
It's midnight and I wanna do my makeup...
Best unintentional asmr
She went INTO that blush holy
I actually learned something from this
I'd rather follow this tutorial than any other tutorials on youtube made by "beauty gurus"
they call themselves that but they have no experience .. they are not professional either.
The light concealing goes on first - and then you blend and blend and blend - blending is the secret!
Of course, you could just apply a flattering makeup, as described in this video & be happy with how you are naturally ;-)
very relaxing to watch.
Her voice is so Pleasant!
I've always loved a soft smooth powdered face than a highlighted face. All you can see nowadays is shiny, overhighlighted cheekbones.
Absolutely, modern 'highlighting' is a crime to makeup, Barbara would've probably fainted ;-).
nunca he aprendido tanto en mi vida me gusto
When the screen goes blue I have a "what happened to the signal!" reaction, before I'm like wait it's a youtube video youtube just buffers
This is greatness!
I don't like it when she says " an old skin"or " a young skin". It sounds a little Buffalo Bill.
ghosted166 lmfaoooo 😂😂 gross
It blends the foundation into its skin or it gets the hose again
Lmao, this is great.
It is what it is. Nowadays we are a little too touchy and excessively benevolent.
@@suk4honesty ahahahahaha
That orange fluffy brush looks like ELF $1 brushes 😁❤
Thank you so much
i was obsessed with this video 2 years ago when i hyperfixated on 80s fashion and makeup LOLOLOL
