I love how she explains that makeup isn’t the only thing that can make you enhance your beauty but maintaining good health, sleeping and eating right 👏🏾👏🏾
My mom, who was born in 1939, taught me all these tricks. But she said never wear brown eyeliner, always black. And her eyeliner was in a cake form where you wet the brush and swirled it in the eyeliner cake. And she always wore Max Factor or Ultima 2. And she used a powder that had cornstarch in it and I think they still make it. I told her her skin smelled like taco shells 😂
@@Verbsdescribeus yes, I prefer brown eyeliner too - it generally comes down to personal preference and the kind of look you’re going for I guess (eg. mod 60s looks seemed to have heavier-looking dark eyeliner whereas the golden era of Hollywood 30s looks seemed to have more of the softest eyeliner in order to put more emphasis on very long lashes) but I like to follow the old tricks of Marilyn Monroe’s makeup artist and in fact he actually used brown eyeliner on her for the signature look she had throughout most of the 50s, until the last 2 years of her life which were the 60s so her makeup changed with the evolving style of the time and therefore looked to be black thicker eyeliner than she used to wear - but it irritates me to no end when everyone these days doing the ‘iconic’ Marilyn look swears that the must-have is sharp black winged eyeliner, the inaccuracy, if only they researched and knew 😩😂

Funny how much more simple, helpful, and understandable this tutorial is compared to modern tutorials. I can't stand how hyper active and annoying MUAs are on RUclips and the way they get off topic for 3 minutes
So true. All start with a hyper "helooooo everyoneeee" and then go on about 'subscribing the channel, bell icon and how they feel (sick, happy, blah blah blah)'.
They teach optical illusions, how to apply makeup in different ways to different kinds of face features in order to achieve the desired look. 90% of the makeup tutorials on RUclips doesn't do this, because almost everyone is a self proclaimed makeup artist who only really knows how to apply makeup to their own face.
This is the most phenomenally useful video ever! I love that she is pointing out the direct connection between diet/lifestyle and healthy skin. Seems to be a thing that is rarely spoken about anymore...I once had a dermatologist tell me that food and food allergies had little to do with skin health! OMG.
Amazing how these techniques are still used to this day!! Litterally every single technique. All the makeup guru's that do videos on how they did their makeup in high school they always say "contouring wasn't invented back then, it wasn't ever a thing!" ... uh it's been a thing for a long time that has come back in these days. It's so cool to see. By the way who says you need a brush for everything, her makeup was flawless using a cotton ball
And for our last step find a good doggie and ask its approval If they don't approve than immediately clean your face and start over because they know what's best for you
AJ Lao my thought when they said "dark eyeliner should never be worn by anyone who does not have very dark eyes" um... no I need my black eyeliner otherwise what's the point.
Chanel Chanel "should be washing clothes but okay.." "So you mean to tell me your lips aren't naturally red?" "Go do the dishes! No one cares about your eyebrows Mary Ann Lou!" "Where's my damn cigar?"
My goodness me, how stunning! I had no idea that they had tutorials back then. I thought it was all secretive, kept by a few make-up artists for celebrities only. Well, proven again.. there is nothing new under the sun. Everything returns, circulates and sooner or later history, simply, repeats itself. With little twists and turns but everything comes back around. ~ I secretly bless every RUclipsr who shares valuable information for educational purposes in every way. Thank you very much for the upload. xxx
Stella Johnson This was 1969, not 1869. Heck, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones had started years before. Makeup wasn't shameful at all in the 60s- look at Twiggy
CARRIE - I'm not sure what you mean. I never said that it was in 1869.... Maybe you reacted to the wrong person or on the wrong thread. I have just expressed my surprise to come across a tutorial earlier than RUclips existed. Since I've never seen any of it before. This whole industry was treated as a 'Top Secret' mission on the "hows". They used to call a "make-up artist to the stars" and (s)he knew all the tricks. Not the public. So, seeing this vintage piece from the time before we were even born was mesmerizing to me. xx
Stella Johnson so true. I always thought the contour n highlight was a newer technique, didn’t know its been around this entire time. Nothing new under the sun
Ah I see. Just a simple spelling mistake and you thought it was an opportunity to take the piss, but the way you spelt "learnted" qualifies? Anyways I'm just simply here for the makeup tutorials.
I remember it like yesterday. Many of the girls loved their Clairol lighted makeup mirror. I watched them apply their makeup so many times, waiting for them at their parents house in 69. To this day I look at the makeup women have on. Good days.
+Stine Moldfjell It wasn't really "baking" back then. That's just how powder was applied since powder was a thing to use. Baking is when you put a ton of powder on a single small area to bring the area forward to the viewer, and in turn it looks unnatural, chalky, and grotesque. As you can see, it's applied and then brushed off without waiting much more than the time it takes to grab another puff. You always brush off excess powder when you powder your face. That's how it's applied.
fatalrob0t I know what baking is, but thank you for the explanation, I guess. I just reacted to they way she said that you leave the powder to allow it to set.
I love how they not only provided an amazing and maintanable makeup routine, but also gave obvious skincare tips in between. Very few youtube makeup artists can do that nowadays.
This was actually really surprising to watch cuz I didn’t expect them to know this much about makeup and beauty.A lot of these facts and tips are still used
Sadly i am 14 and I don't ever wear makeup becuase of how heavy it is and Also in kindergarten kids already wore eyeshadow highlighter mascara and etc sadly it was also how stupid the parents were also
I only started doing makeup on my own in my late 20s...(altho I've had makeup since 15 for prom) it depends on your parents...my mom isn't a makeup person such that my aunts did her makeup for her wedding and other events lol haha
Lian Cabacungan Contouring has actually been used since operas were first popular. The actors would use a pale powder all over their face and use contouring so that the people in the audience can see who is speaking from far away.
idk if this helps but I started using panoxyl, a retinol, and the cerave moisturizing cream and after a two month purge (probably less if you dont pick at your face) my skin has cleared up a lot
@space dino actually yes, but of course your not gonna have glass skin in 1 week, i did all of that and it’s been a year since i started skincare and now i only have a few acne scars
+Jada Strickland A good browse through the comment section will show you just how many kids are genuinely surprised that contouring is not a new thing.
I do my makeup more like this, simple, with emphasis in on my good points. I don’t like the new way of doing makeup. The funny thing is people think I wear a lot but I don’t, I’m just good at knowing what to do where.
I notice how in this video, compared to modern tutorials, the artist explains that you must do this and can never do that. Nowadays there are virtually no rules to make up, and you can do whatever you want to whenever you want to. I just think that's so cool how makeup has become such a universal art form that you can pretty much look like anyone or anything you want!😊
+Maggy Blue that's so true! But I always think to myself, you do you boo, even if your lips are way to over lined and your eyebrows look like caterpillars, you do you. Lol😂

Funny how much more simple, helpful, and understandable this tutorial is compared to modern tutorials. I can't stand how hyper active and annoying MUAs are on RUclips and the way they get off topic for 3 minutes
lol true
good for you.
No Face so true
so true, it drives me crazy sometimes
So true. All start with a hyper "helooooo everyoneeee" and then go on about 'subscribing the channel, bell icon and how they feel (sick, happy, blah blah blah)'.
That moment when this old tutorial is 10x better than the million new ones on RUclips.
the devil is a lie
i learnt something ! i was a 70's child and my mother never taught me a good way like this .her ideal was blue trashy eyeshadow and dark eyebrows lol
They teach optical illusions, how to apply makeup in different ways to different kinds of face features in order to achieve the desired look. 90% of the makeup tutorials on RUclips doesn't do this, because almost everyone is a self proclaimed makeup artist who only really knows how to apply makeup to their own face.
Kim
Thank You! What she said ^
Exactly, also make up tutorials these days are excessively overusing eyeliner.
This is the most phenomenally useful video ever! I love that she is pointing out the direct connection between diet/lifestyle and healthy skin. Seems to be a thing that is rarely spoken about anymore...I once had a dermatologist tell me that food and food allergies had little to do with skin health! OMG.
“or, use a highlighting cream.”

charlotte same with the black eyeliner not being for blondes tbh
That's why I'm glad we live in an age where different is a good thing

Lol love that
😂
🤣🤣🤣I read that at the EXACT same time she said it 🙈
Do not forget the wax and skin peels, my god 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
i love the aesthetic of vintage makeup
i love how their "ludacris" look back then is now a normal evening look for us
Amazing how these techniques are still used to this day!!
They say it just wasn’t an everyday thing for most people around their age. Contouring was around it just wasn’t nearly as big as it is today.
Holly Abb
Oh I didn't know this was a thing. The brand I use is 100% cotton, and I compost mine for less impact. I hope the worms like mascara :)
that was a damn full coverage spot concealer, need me some of that damn
The brand “Lumene” has the greatest concealer. It’s exactly like this.
A bowl of salad but lumene is finnish brand? i dont know if u can get it anywhere else
Eli pilu you can get it in sweden
@@abowlofsalad8812 I'm Finnish and I own a lumene concealer. It barely covers anything, is there another one that's better then? haha
How the dog approves at the end lmao
Lunati Cat lol 😂😂😂😂
And for our last step find a good doggie and ask its approval
If they don't approve than immediately clean your face and start over because they know what's best for you
I wish more makeup tutorials were this relaxing
“To be wide eyed and alert, a full measure of sleep is required”

Jedaliz Munoz I’m watching this at 6:35 am hahaha
Jedaliz Munoz lol me right now
Jedaliz Munoz I THOUGHT THE SAME THING, but instead of 3 am it's 6:48 with no sleep ;-;
I have the biggest bags aaaaa
It just turned 4...but OMG I CAN NOT GET TO SLEEP SOMETIMES

Nice way to say "fucked up". Lol
i’ve been watching this for years and it never become any less relaxing
This was how I did my makeup in high school in 1969. Feels like home; so girly & feminine.
Omg, Cynthia I love you 🥺💘
Cynthia R that sounds great! I love these vintage looks. Brings me back in time!
Girly and femenine. That is the true beauty.
Ravishing !!
You look great for your age!
"There should be no sharp, obvious line."
Me: *wings so sharp they could kill a man*
is there any other way to wear it!? lol
Dude i literally read this right when she said it! So weird! Lol
camila pimentel Who is saying men are intimidated? lol
camila pimentel wth are you taking about? Lol
AJ Lao my thought when they said "dark eyeliner should never be worn by anyone who does not have very dark eyes" um... no I need my black eyeliner otherwise what's the point.
Imagine if she has another video: 'My husband does my voiceover'
Chanel Chanel "should be washing clothes but okay.."
"So you mean to tell me your lips aren't naturally red?"
"Go do the dishes! No one cares about your eyebrows Mary Ann Lou!"
"Where's my damn cigar?"
You're A Caucasian Mess. Yeah something like that I guess 😂
Chanel Chanel And then a reaction video
bahhahhahha
You're A Caucasian Mess. Your comment gave me life 😂😂😂
This is the definition of beauty! Natural makeup looks, freeing the face.

Thank you very much for the upload. xxx
49jubilee Dresses are great and tattoos are cool too.
So, seeing this vintage piece from the time before we were even born was mesmerizing to me. xx
49jubilee I like both :)
Stella Johnson so true. I always thought the contour n highlight was a newer technique, didn’t know its been around this entire time. Nothing new under the sun
I actually learned a lot from this :)
Fallout 4 Fan I learnted alot to
Eileen Garcia that's great! :)
Eileen Garcia what should I learn to spell?
Fallout 4 Fan lmao I just thought it was funny that you said learnt
Good days.
Even contouring and baking was a thing back then.
And brow hi light. Lol. Not much has changed.
+Stine Moldfjell Isn't baking for cooking? Food?
+fatalrob0t You dust off the powder after baking as well.
She be using the new jeffree star palette
Tom Shiner OMG! HAHAHAHAHA, good one 😂
Tom Shiner
she sure will😂

We get more makeup tips from this than most makeup tutorials nowadays
That's so true. I noticed that, too. lol
tbh i don't think so.. you must be watching the wrong people
taehyung ❤
+Priyal Kumar hahaha
uhm no Hiiiiiiiiii
I love how they not only provided an amazing and maintanable makeup routine, but also gave obvious skincare tips in between. Very few youtube makeup artists can do that nowadays.
1960s: "using gentle upward strokes"
2016: "so you're going to get your beauty blender AND BEAT THAT FACE BITCH YASS"
Ahahah accurate. 😂👏🏼
where is the lie??? 😂
😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
LMAO I'm living for this comment! yyasss
it went from blending foundation with "gentle upward strokes" to smacking yourself in the face with a sponge
this made me actually laugh out loud
it went from blending your foundation to LITERALLY beating your own face
jessica valley ahaahhahaa😂😂
Or the "blending my foundation with my bfs balls" trend
That’s why everyone in the 60’s aged more gracefully lmao
I have very disturbed skin
Same
I fucking die laughing at that part
THATS WHAT I SAID

Why is this calming to watch?
The way she does it gently is so relaxing.

This was actually really surprising to watch cuz I didn’t expect them to know this much about makeup and beauty.A lot of these facts and tips are still used
Yea cause they were idiots back then..
@@librasapphire7830 And nothing much has changed in that department. 😂
Narrator: *The generally accepted age for wearing lipstick is about fourteen*
3 year olds: *TRIGGERED*
Sadly
Sadly i am 14 and I don't ever wear makeup becuase of how heavy it is and Also in kindergarten kids already wore eyeshadow highlighter mascara and etc sadly it was also how stupid the parents were also
I only started doing makeup on my own in my late 20s...(altho I've had makeup since 15 for prom) it depends on your parents...my mom isn't a makeup person such that my aunts did her makeup for her wedding and other events lol haha
Danica Veselinovic// YOO I WAS READING THIS COMMENT AND IT STARTED TO SAY IT IM-
I wore lipstick before I was 14 😂
Contour since 1960's 😱
i was shocked😂😂 also I thought the word highlighter was new😂😂
Lian Cabacungan *since '30s. Marlene Diertrich was a queen of contouring lol.
I know! I’m shocked!
Even farther back then the 1960s
Lian Cabacungan Contouring has actually been used since operas were first popular. The actors would use a pale powder all over their face and use contouring so that the people in the audience can see who is speaking from far away.
WOW, BY FAR ONE OF THE BEST MAKE UP TUTORIAL I'VE EVER SEEN, SO ON POINT!
-disturbed skin
-straggly brows
-drowsy and lacking luster eyes
-skin blemishes
-lack of vitamins
daaaamn she coming for us🤣😭😭😭
Demi Sullivan 😂😂😂
These are all literally me
She came for me, and she took my weave help
Demi Sullivan that’s what young kids consider “coming for you”- mind you this is the 60s- people weren’t as easily butt hurt like nowadays

Hearing my acne-prone skin described as “disturbed” 👁👄👁
Well i guess it matches my emotional state 🥴
Cut all junk food. Work out. Use sacilyic acid. Cured.
idk if this helps but I started using panoxyl, a retinol, and the cerave moisturizing cream and after a two month purge (probably less if you dont pick at your face) my skin has cleared up a lot
Politeness at its finest. 😉
@space dino actually yes, but of course your not gonna have glass skin in 1 week, i did all of that and it’s been a year since i started skincare and now i only have a few acne scars
I'm not going to talk about the make up part, how beautiful and aesthetically perfect it is!! Can't we appreciate the background music for once??
Yesss
I love this video. It's calming and soothing, a reminder of simpler times.
+Nevaeh Munce I think this comment was, quite logically, about the simplicity of makeup during those days. Not the political or social state.
all youtube arguments should be this civilized
"simpler times" for white people
Unless you were a white woman
+Mykol D white men** haha
Funny how kids think contouring and highlighting is new 😊
+Jada Strickland A good browse through the comment section will show you just how many kids are genuinely surprised that contouring is not a new thing.
+Jada Strickland you do know you just contradicted yourself lmao nice try though it was cute
we just perfected it thats the deal
Zoieanne Gullick what I thought it was new
Zoieanne Gullick my family don't contour & highlight so i thought it was new
Step 1: Have perfect natural skin
Oops I've already failed
@@d3ath2augu5t4 😂😂
That's me lol
I kinda have clear skin
It's surprising how little has changed in technique.
Except for in today's world people cake the makeup on so thick you could scrape it off with a razor blade.
That's probably also why I see people walking around quite literally looking like clowns, but hey...it's all about self-expression! Lol.
Well people get pretty offended these days..
+Maggy Blue that's so true! But I always think to myself, you do you boo, even if your lips are way to over lined and your eyebrows look like caterpillars, you do you. Lol😂
+Natalee Ann Stephenson For real tho.... Peeps need to calm down with the drag-queen inspired makeup just a tad lol
+Maggy Blue right?? Lol!
