My son, daughter and my exes son and daughter wanted a dog. We bought a lab. My ex decided she didn’t want a medium dog. My ex wanted a chihuahua so I bought her a chihuahua for her birthday. The chihuahua was the wrong colour so she bought another chihuahua that was the right colour. When she left we kept the lab and first chihuahua and she kept the second chihuahua.
I totally agree with you. You either legally arrange to take the pets or you must leave them behind. Heartbreaking as it is, you must preserve your sanity and save yourself from those horrible toxic relationship.
Thank you very much for speaking on this subject. My narc discarded me when I didn't see it coming so I had to move out asap. There is a housing shortage in the area I currently live in so I couldn't get a place that allowed pets. The narc told me he would care for our 2 cats. The ex and the new supply moved back in the house the day I moved out. 2 months later, I get a post from the animal shelter with our 2 cat's pics up for adoption. He said it was due to allergies. I really think it may have been because he didn't want to change the litter box and pay for their food. My narc was a mooch. The new supply has a better job than I do so I think he thought nothing would be expected of him financially. New supply thinks she won the prize! Lol!
She won the prize alright; it’s great when the ex has someone new to focus on destroying.
My (STBX) wife had a dog when I met her, I'm not really a dog person, but I go with it... She treated that poor dog horribly, never trained her, never walked her, I ended up having to feed the dog due to my wife's feigned incompetence, and of course, she never picked up the dog's poop. I said to her for years, we're not getting another dog. 2020 the dog up and dies. Two months later my wife just goes and gets another dog, and then puts me on the spot in front of my daughter to make me the bad guy. The fight we had, on top of all of our normal fights, I still think was what led to a sudden deterioration of my health. I had sepsis and was in the hospital for a month. I missed my daughter's 6th birthday (I almost missed all of the rest of them). It's the same with this dog as it was with the last one... no walking, training, feeding, caring for, etc. I'm about to legally separate from her, and now the dog suddenly has diabetes. Fortunately for the dog, my wife actually administer the dog's insulin. But I know all the 'emergencies' are going to keep rolling in.
The pets are there for leverage. They know you feel attached and they see it as a way to Manipulate you. I’ve experienced tis same thing and the poop cleaning and all. The lazier they get the more you get angry and it reinforces their victim status. You feel alone because everyone seems to like and respect them and you too but the phony smiles and “I love you’s” they give go away if they are lying on the couch and they yell at you for not obeying their orders to clean up their pets mess because they refuse to train it. They figure the more they can break you down the easier they can control your obedience.,
We had a kennel together. I brought 3 dogs with me. He had 4 dogs. This has kept a connection for years. I keep a firm barrier, but still love those animals. Most have passed on, so there is the task of marking their precious graves, and then that is all.
My ex wife threatened to open the front door and let my indoor dog run into the street traumatizing our 8 year old daughter. Another time she threatened to poison my dog and myself. Truly demon possessed. I made it out with my dog and 50-50 custody with our only child
My narc had a pet with a previous victim and used the pet to keep the connection going by having to visit the pet. I never understood why.
I miss my cat, and I worry about her dog who loves me
Narcissists aren't pet lovers. Don't be fooled by these demons.
If they introduce a pet during the relationship be sure it's gonna end up as your responsibility. 🫶
