Twice now I’ve committed the Magic equivalent of a tactical nuke with the Tyranids using Exocrene. Deck is too fun. 😅

A couple friends and I played these decks, and I played the 'Nids. Can confirm, Swarmlord made it longer than a turn only once. Then he was promptly killed for the 5th time

@@madhatten00 Lucea Kane is the best commander for the nids, double the draw on ravaenous, double the effects of x spells, and double the creatures, I absolutely blasted someone to death with a double X=18 Zoanthrope, I would have died next turn, he had me dead on board. xD
Swarm is a beast if you drop him with Winged hive tyrant, 7/7 flying haste slaps but yea, very vulnerable to removal.
@@zynstein8059 and that's the issue. He's already expensive, has no protection and relies on other cards to be useful.
Jimmy's last turn was literally the moment when you think everything is fine, until you discovered you're fighting on a Necron tomb world who just awaken.

Yeah. I don’t play warhammer. But people I’ve talked to who know about Warhammer say it’s a flavor win
That was a brutal game. The fact that every player had to cast their commander more then 3 times shows how much removal happened. For a long time people just couldn't get a value engine.
Some may question Marcus’ right to destroy a board full of permanents, those who truly understand realize he had no right to let them live.

It's refreshing to see them play just straight up unupgraded precons, it was a really fun episode to watch. (and that Kill, Maim, Burn transition was awesome )
For such a simple animation (compared to the ones they usually do), it was great, and probably one of my all-time favourites.
Yeah I'm new to MTG, and starting with commander. I like seeing just out of the box stuff, cuz I don't have enough cards or knowledge to start substituting stuff. They seem really fun ootb.

Yeah that 4 damage right then would have changed the whole game. It just sucks that triggers get missed. Happens to me sometimes with new cards or things with tons of text.

The back and forth utter destruction is so on key with 40k. These decks are incredible.

I like how the Josh Lee Kwai tokens combine with Marneus Calgar to draw cards. Makes you feel like he is in this episode in spirit
Ya know, despite the internet completely trashing him, The Swarmlord seemed to always be everyone's #1 target lmao
I know right? Every gameplay video I've seen, the instant the swarmlord is out it's targeted.
And then surprisingly, the Necrons always seem to fly under and then go off in late game
The imperium deck and chaos deck seem to be the most well tuned and work everytime and can just overwhelm easily
It's biggest problem is that's exactly what happens, the swarmlord just gets killed, or chump blocked, I really don't know why they didn't put trample on the card. It's just a big dumb boi, and big dumb bois don't do great in commander without evasion

@@blakey9869 I think that with Trample it would have been a bit too good. You have to remember that he is not just a big dumb boi, he's supposed to be a value engine. It being a removal magnet and giving you some cards it's not trivial. It's not the best commander, but it's not bad.
I actually love swarmlord but he needs to be like 4 mana because he has a lot of requirements for him to do something I feel like he is just too slow sadly
Hope we'll see an Extra Turns also playing these just to see more of that amazing art and those interesting cards.

This whole set has so much removal and board wipe it is insane. Literally super hard to see who was going to come out on top.
This show has inspired my sons and I to start playing! Thank you for doing what you do!!! They’re 10 and 12 and this is the only game that keeps them interested. They’re gifted and it’s hard for me to connect and MTG helped us do that! You guys are all amazing! What an amazing community!

I felt Ashlyn's frustration this whole game. The amount of hate targeted at the Swarmlord was honestly kinda over exaggerated, especially since it doesn't have trample. Threat assessment was also a little iffy for several of those turns.
I mean, that's 40k accurate though, everyone always overtargets Swarmlords. They're a hell of a Distraction Carnifex.
She also had not so much luck with card draw : she had tons of lands, but one to none cards in hand. Tyranid "Swarm" is a bit exaggerated in this deck, it is more like Tyranid "Behemoths"
there is a trample lord and a creature that gives flying to all creatures with counters on them in the deck. Yeah ashlen had a pretty good why is everyone targeting me face lol but she conceivably have had either of those creatures in her hand as a next turn follow up. D also was playing a game where he was weakening other ppl to make them vulnerable to attacks which is opposite of what usually happens where ppl pick at the front runner.
That annoyed tf outta me also. I was like dam everything going on the board but ashlyn had one creature that can be chump blocked and targeted everytime. I definitely can't stand players that are like that.

Love that you are using the precons as they are out of the box. I think it makes for a lot more interesting game without the cards you always end up having to put in when you make changes.
I mean, 2 people did change their commanders and, tbf, it's the reason Marcus won and Jimmy was able to pop off, the other commanders from those decks aren't as strong imo

I feel for Ashlen here. They were focusing on her weirdly for no good gameplay reason and the constantly killing her Commander - who is decent but hardly game-dominating - would've got me down real quickly, since it felt targeted. Props to her for keeping game face on and a positive attitude.
I like when Marcus says d's the threat but I'll target swarmlord felt like a gang up but can't say for sure

When Kharn died 1:10:33 Marcus should have drawn 4 Cards: 2 for the Clamp and 2 for Kharn himself since losing control includes it leaving the battlefield. (For those curious it's in WotCs release notes for the Set)
Great episode, I love the 40k Decks and I loved to watch you play with them!
Techincally speaking, Kharn did not get blocked, so it would not have drawn him 2 Extra cards from him and only got 2 cards from the skull clamp.

Because if u read Kharn, it says whenever he is dealt damage, not when he deals damage u give him to target opponent.
Unless I missed somethin, I’d say that Robert’s overly tunnel-visioned into the fact that drawing 2 off Kharn’s trigger, only happens when another player gains control of it & an opponent gainin control of it, is tied to would-be damage dealt to Kharn (like, from a block).
Agree with Tim & Anthony that dying & leaving the battlefield, etc also count towards the broader category of “losing control of this permanent”

i only started watching marcus last month but ive binged most of his videos by this point cuz i love movies, games, and video essays, and now seeing him on my favorite mtg channel?? a crossover that i never knew was in the works, but am beyond happy that it happened!
I was dubious when I saw WotC were doing 40K for MTG, but the IP is so strong and the art so good that it just works.
After the disaster that was the Stranger Things stuff, I wasn't expecting Universes Beyond cards to be good. I don't know anything about either franchise: I've never watched Stranger Things or played Warhammer 40k. But these cards just feel like completely natural Magic cards - the kind that wouldn't really look jarring as random one-offs in a "regular" deck. It's a much better experience, and if future Universes Beyond cards are like this, I wouldn't mind them at all.

Absolutely Amazing Command Zone! There was one error that Jimmy made at 28:07 with the Starstorm resolution. The Deathmarks had the Res Orb attached to them so they should have come back after the Starstorm resolved. That would have led to 3 more cards being milled. No creatures to be killed but a creature to attack / block with. This error may not be significant but once the commander comes out, Jimmy had a way to deal with the other "creatures" that caused a lot of stress later in the game.
Res orb wasn't attached to anything at the end of Jimmy's Turn
@@Dylan-vs6sf I missed that. I assumed it reattached to the creature when it returned to the battlefield. I had Animated Dead's effect on my mind. Thank you for pointing that out. 👍😉

There were a lot of missed triggers, but they're brand-new decks and this was probably their first time playing them, you can't really blame 'em.
That was a really fun game! It's always cool when multiple people get to pop off and there's not just a single archenemy in the game.
I'd love to see an Extra Turns with the decks but upgraded!

But you have to admit he does make everyone burn through removal spells so the rest of your board might live on.

Most important thing that needs to be said here: Thanks for not altering the decks at all... no ridiculous Commander staples but just a fun romp in the 41st millennium. Came in to the video with apprehension... ended it with awe & delight 🤗
Szarekh, The Silent King, the true phaeron, ruler of legion, with a body of necrodermis, throne, and weapons befitting of an eternal ruler, a god killer, warping reality itself with his technological might, a miniature of great detail and even greater power in the Warhammer tabletop.
MTG commander: eh, he's fine, probably use one of the other necron legendaries though, they're way more flexible and powerful

Literally everyone else: Aw shit here we go again.
That was a really awesome game. Literally everyone had a moment where it looked like they were in the lead, and Marcus managing to come back and clench it after being arch enemy hammered for a full rotation late game is really something.
The music for this episode was on point! When Jimmy was about to combo off you could feel the dread.
Ok. So the decks are so cool. But the threat assessment? I had so many disagreements. D had an opportunity to get a 12-for-1 on Marcus… and he targeted Ashlen’s creature! Love the decks, and everyone is so great, but I think Ashlen was way over-targeted with spot removal and Marcus was left alone too much. Also the potentially game-ending commissar was not prioritized anywhere near enough.
I just bought the imperium deck and I’m stoked. Will probably pick up one other deck too.
Everybody playing their instant speed interaction at sorcery speed makes me miss Josh's tight play.

This is my favorite episode so far, I love when y'all play preconstructed decks, so that it's much more politicking and choice heavy rather than "oops, I win".

D forgot to target the 4 damage to a random opponent when his red creature died

I wasn't that sure about these decks, but this episode made me change my mind! It was super sweet, each faction had a shot at winning, everyone was in danger at some point, really sweet! Full out war!
