I proxied a few vintage decks for my brother and me to play. Trouble is he has zero interest in the format lol. At least I didn't spend much on those cards.
Those Rootwallas made more appearances than Hogaak did lol But great Vintage gameplay. Nice to see more formats and it's nice to have the regular play comments on your own plays. Hope to see more of these formats in the future
hogaak was released in MH1, it was intended for modern they just didnt playtest as much as they needed to, i think they thought it would be a cool late game closer as opposed to just coming out turn 2 or so and winning
@@timothydalton2388 I know it was released in MH1, but I'm pretty sure it was designed for commander. Most of the pushed moderns cards for the set featured no cost to cast (FoN, FoV), cheap modal abilities (W6, archmage's, Kaya's Guile) or did something on etb (ice fang). Notably, Urza and Yawgmoth break the mold on this, but it's pretty clear that they were designed to be attractive in multiple formats.
@@castanus4343Released in MH1, yes. But like all MtG products nowadays, the target market is actually Commander players. Golos was released in a Standard-legal set. Did WotC only intend it for Constructed formats? Smothering Tithe was released in a Standard-legal set. Do you think it was intended for Standard? Garth One-Eye and Chatterfang were printed in MH2. Do you really think they were printed with Modern in mind?
@@castanus4343Hogaak was designed with commmander in mind. Just like Omnath, Locus of Creation, another plague of constructed formats (especially Standard)
Love seeing some vintage content! Little Bolas' Citadel tip for Cam at 8:25 - take a peek on top of the deck just in case there's a counterspell there.
Its funny how a lot of strategies in Vintage/legacy kind of mirror strategies in CEDH but not all of them. I cant think of a mirror to Jewel shops or Hogaak/bazar in CEDH. Also I love the content, keep up the awesome work!
Well the singleton format kinda makes it hard to build a bazzar of bagda deck in commander. Or any other competitive vintage deck. Also imagine comander with time vault? Tassa's oracle would be childs play
@10:55 you definitely cast the mbt there but you know that he has a deterministic win with access to vamp tutor in the graveyard and a senseis top in play so most players would just scoop to the yawg will
3:55 - getting a Dark ritual here would leave Cam with enough mana (use it to Yawgmoth’s will, replay the Lotus, mox and the ritual) to still drop the Citadel on T1.
I liked the video, this format is fast and funny, and something different too see. And its more funny watching you guys using cedh cards in a different scenario 😂
I just built an entirely proxies Vintage Cube and drafted it with friends this weekend. SOOO much fun doing busted things or losing to busted cards. 10/10 would recommend.
Awesome match! The casted serum powder for sure mattered: could have kept the wasteland, waste the Academy I believe the official 5 game format is 2 main, (up to) 3 sideboard
That's how I've seen Playing with Power do their 1v1 games, and I've really enjoyed it. It gives a better chance for each deck to show off it's thing both pre-- and post-board
Yeah! 1vs1 content! letsgooooooo I would love to see more formats being played, specially stuff like legacy, vintage, or even two head giant, since Magic can be such a diverse game.
most of the vintage players i have played with are pro proxy. vintage paved the way for proxies in cedh. they've been doing 10-20 proxies allowed in tournaments for years. Just gotta get them to fully commit to all proxy haha
I think it depends. I have always seen vintage tournaments allow 10-15 proxies, which before vintage I hadn't seen any formats allow. but perhaps for some of the BIG tournaments they are not allowed. I agree it is not as proxy friendly as cedh, but maybe that can change!
I would love to see more vintage but next time maybe pit 2 blue decks against each other? I always love watching blue mirrors in eternal formats, the play patterns that come out of it are so interesting and it feels like absolute peak magic to me
Additional answers to questions posed: Sideboarding I actually dont really like leyline at all vs hogaak. Its a deck that can operate outside the yard very well. from gaak side id bring in 4 fov 3 mbt 2 endurance. From beseech side im bringing in snuff out for ouphe, delgue, tab, sheo, portal, needle, dismember. The way i look at it the gaak either pressures fast with an above average hand or stops beseech with fov/ouphe/endurance. From the beseech side you are always super favored and u just dont want to die to an ouphe.
"Not ment to keep no bazaar hands" actually Hogaak and Cradlevine variants are really fun because u can keep non bazaar hands. Hands with Fov and early ouphes would be keeps in the matchup
I am pretty sure two moxes, lotus and Beseech is a turn one win(with or without Yawgmoth's Will in your hand). Beseech for Bessech float an extra mana sac the other mox cast dark ritual. Cast Yowgmoths's Will from hand leave one black mana in the pool. Lotus, mox, mox, dark ritual, beseech(from graveyard) for beseech for beseech for Tendrils of Agony. The storm is definitely enough to kill your opponent. If your opponent has a counter spell, the Sheoldred will be countered as well.
More Vintage, please. Vintage is its own format and meta that’s constantly changing. You can legit play some wonky decks that go from jokes to meta crushing, like Food Chain Goblins, which has the advantage of being agro, hating artifacts heavily, and combining your win on T1 if not interfered with.
In the first game where Cam played beseech, what was in his hand? I think I saw a yawgmoth's will which shuts off that line, but could you have gone for tinker into bolas citadel? Idk if it's enough, but you have a land drop left so that's nice 🙂
I have to admit I'm a little confused by the Force of Vigors in the sideboard. Isn't that pretty much a mandatory 4-of maindeck in Gaak? It and ouphe are your only forms of interaction game 1.
Vintage is the only format I would suggest mulliganing very aggressively as your hand needs to be able to do the thing the deck is designed to do by at least turn 3.
Might be wrong here but, in your last attack with the vine, the ouffe and the lizzard, couldnt you just +2+0 the lizzard exiling a land in a graveyard for a red mana?
The power 9 wasn’t printed in modern frames. These are most likely 100% proxy decks. They probably order a ton of proxies for all of their cedh decks Edit: I see that they’re 30th anniversary edition. My bet is still proxy
I'm normanlly a commander player. Only dabbling my foot in CEDH. But watching the games you guys have is awlays enjoyable. I've recently taken more of a shine towards higher power formats, and seeing these games made me wanna try out vintage even more than I already did. That Hogaak list was wild!
Timewalk is basically a timewalk. Incredible
I like how it’s Tinker vs Hogaak and none of them saw play 😂 felt more like Bazaar vs Sheoldred
Hogaak showed up for one game
“You mean my worst nightmare - a four five” Is quite possibly the funniest thing to ever come from this channel.
I don't even play Vintage and these games were SICK. Immediately made me want to proxy a deck and try it out.

That closing song was majestic. Loved the gameplay. Would love to see some Canadian Highlander.
I like how Hogaak was supposed to be this goofy little commander card and then it snapped Modern over its knee.

most CEDh combos originate from Vintage/legacy@@raymakerscalisthenics660
That cause the cards that make those decks arent commander legal

A deck that can use bagdad effectively is terrible if you don't have bagdad, so in a 100 cards singleton format what are you gonna do?
found you guys from this vintage vid. Great stuff! the cEDH is cool but would also love to see more of this or maybe some canlander... :)
Would love to see more 1v1 content in vintage, legacy and modern
This is fucking amazing. cedh and vintage all in one channel!!!!!??????? Hell yeah!
I love how the Timewalk was effectively just a "2 mana draw 1" this game
love the facecams during the game! cool to see different formats pop up on the channel

Never really noticed that we pronounce "manifold" as "manafold." They are incredibly similar if you arent saying it slowly
Why do you attack with Deathrite Shaman? It can drain for more damage than it can attack for. Might have made the difference in the last game.
Crazy how Sheoldred pretty much beat a $45,000 vintage deck by itself. Still in standard btw
