I know that the guests get to make their own decks and of course want to make powerful decks that synergize well and pop off but I have to admit that constantly seeing rhystic study and smothering tythe is getting really old. Feels like every episode wether its extra turns or game knights whoever plays rhystic study always takes over the table even if they don't win in the end. Maybe as a change of flavor and to show that not every commander game has to have rhystic study you guys could consider having a soft house ban on these oppressive cards (Dockside / Smothering tythe / Rhystic Study). Personally I would find it way more interesting to see other cards pop off and shine, the only other solution would be to take your own advice and just instantly remove them... but lets be real thats never gonna happen. As always great episode and thanks for always taking Game Knights to the next level!!

      Drafting the decks might have been a good choice here. More Backgrounds (cause lets be real, I doubt those and the Commanders will start showing up on future episodes unless they are for infinite combos like this one), slower game to allow Dragon tribal to shine, Initiative and the Undercity would have showed up, etc.

      I mean of course you wanna play the 2 mana ramp spells, of course you wanna combo off, of course you want everything faster, I also do, but it's also sad in a way, because I got the feeling that all the busted things you can do in the other formats, you can just do them also in commander now, a format with freaking 100 cards and a single copy of each. But that's just the evolution of the game I guess, otherwise, what are you supposed to do? Play your janky deck and never impact the game becouse you can't catch up? Yeah I got the feeling that the ''soul" that this format had it's just fading, idk 🤷

There are no edh tournaments, there is no scene, there is no meta. just dont play the broken stuff if slow games is what you want. Nobody is stopping you. this isnt modern or standard, where the state of the game changing will affect everyone because everyone plays under the same rules in a competetive setting. This was an excellent episode! I've never heard of your guests before, but Lexi sure makes a powerful impression with her game play and smile (probably part of her strategy to lull her opponents into a false sense of security). Jonathan played well and was entertaining. Josh's deck looked fierce, but I was never really sure what it was supposed to do to close things out. By contrast, Jimmy being hampered by mana screw allowed for him to make a decision that sped up the game. I'd be alright if there was a rematch sometime later on.

  • @ObsidianKnight90
    @ObsidianKnight90 Год назад +10

    49:17 Jimmy absolutely made the right play there. Giving Lexi an extra turn has little chance to hurt him, given Josh and Jonathan had much better board states and would almost certainly be her primary focus. On the other hand, if he chose Money then Lexi could have Expropriated one of his lands and essentially locked him out of the game. Choosing Time gave him an opportunity to, well, bide his time. Plenty of players have come back from weaker positions on Game Knights and gotten the win in the end, like Graham from LRR playing Bear Force One.
    Josh also brought the situation upon himself by not paying for the Rhystic Studies triggers when he tried to 'go off' with his combo and ended up with a whole lot of mana doing a whole lot of nothing. I understand that it's easy to get frustrated in a game like this, but blaming Jimmy was uncalled for.

    • @AusSkiller
      @AusSkiller Год назад +1

      Yeah I agree, that was Jimmys best chance, give Lexi the opportunity to equalize the board a bit, if she hadn't had the mana geyser (which Jimmy couldn't have known about) it wouldn't have been anywhere near as dangerous giving her an extra turn.

    • @BertockLeg
      @BertockLeg Год назад

      I disagree. Mostly because you are going to give a player with something like 30 cards in hand 3 turns in a row. He may not have died by the end, but the board would have been to much in lexi's favour to be able to comeback. Especially when you have almost no mana and the cards in your hands were those bounced back by cyclonic rift.

    • @AusSkiller
      @AusSkiller Год назад

      @@BertockLeg But giving up a land would have put him even further behind up against 3 much better armed players, even if they don't target you at that point you are so far behind you are going to just end up as collateral or an easy way to generate low risk combat triggers. If the other 2 players are also on the back foot you can at least team up with them while building your board.

    • @ObsidianKnight90
      @ObsidianKnight90 Год назад +2

      @@AusSkiller I agree with you completely. Ultimately, it's Josh's decision not to pay for Rhystic Studies (something like two dozen times) that gave Lexi the massive card advantage that she used to win the game. Jimmy made the best of a bad situation that was largely outside of his control.
