Had an MT-09 as my first bike. Got an MT-10 SP 2022 this year. And they are so much different that there's no way to compare. Just two different awesome bikes. I'd love to have them both.
sounds exciting! Having an MT-09 as your first bike and then upgrading to an MT-10 SP must have been a fantastic experience. Each bike is amazing, making them both awesome in their own ways. Owning both would be a dream come true for any motorcycle enthusiast! Ride safe 👍
A few days ago went to the Yamaha Triumph dealership they had a regular mt10 new 2023 and a Triumph Speed triple 1200 rs Orange the Triumph looked amazing just quality feel off the chart not so much the mt10 looked so cheesy just so cheap looking trading my Hayabusa in he wants 10,000 out the door for the mt10 and 13000 for the Triumph tuff decision but I am leaning towards the Triumph you have to see that bike man the quality attention to detail it's amazing wow I am impressed.
Coming from cb650r, im torn between these two :/
I had an MT09 (Ist gen) for a few years and then switched to an MT10. I found the MT09 seat to be really uncomfortable, I didn't like the perched over the front attitude, the suspension was bouncy, and the exhaust was too quiet. The MT10 power was way better, the suspension was great, and I liked the more substantial feel. It is much more expensive and the mileage isn't great. For me, there is no contest - the MT10 is the best bike I have owned.
It sounds like the MT10 addressed the issues you had with the MT09, providing a more comfortable ride, improved power, and a better overall experience. It's great to hear that you found the MT10 to be the best bike you've owned! It’s always a tough decision when both bikes are fantastic and more than powerful. Thanks for the feedback it’s really appreciated when I get a owners perspective on this. Ride safe matey 👍🏍️💨💨💨
I bought a Yamaha MT-09 SP this year. I rode the R3 for about six years before that. (COVID-19 messed up my upgrade plans for a few years.) Love the torque and hp on this bike. It does catch a lot of wind on the highway though. My biggest complaint is the gas gauge. It's pretty much useless, which is unusual for Yamaha. I have had an R3 and several Yamaha snowmobiles. The gas gauges were great on those. The MT-09 SP gas gauge is subpar, to say the least.
Congratulations on your Yamaha MT-09 SP! It's great to hear that you're enjoying the increased torque and horsepower compared to the R3. However, it's unfortunate to hear about the wind issue on the highway and the subpar gas gauge. Feedback like this can be valuable for manufacturers to improve their products. Ride safe 👍🏍️💨💨💨
Great video, I personally think the MT-09SP would be the better choice 👍🏼
I think your probably right bikergirl 👍🏍️💨
Sold my KTM 1290r superduke this year and brought a 23 mt09sp. For the sheer fact I don’t do track days so hardly anything competes on the road with mt09. It’s so light with great power bit like a super moto handling wise. A & B road blaster.
I totally agree, it’s a great bike in the corners and more and enough power for the road. I personally believe you can have more fun on this bike than any other bigger hp bikes
I'm still riding my FZ1 .MT10 next for me. I strap 150 dollar luggage on it quick and have road tripped it know problem. That's the plan for the MT10. Great mountain road bikes. I'm 63 96 thousand miles on my FZ1. Hope the MT10 is as reliable.
It sounds like you've had a great experience with your FZ1, especially with your road trips and the convenience of strapping on luggage. The Yamaha MT-10 is indeed a popular choice for its performance, especially on mountain roads. Given your positive experience with the FZ1, you might find the MT-10 to be a worthy successor, particularly if you're looking for reliability and similar functionality for road trips. With your impressive mileage on the FZ1, you're clearly an experienced rider, so the transition to the MT-10 should be exciting and fulfilling. Enjoy your rides and stay safe on the roads!
@@thatbikersimon last year I retired . Road my bike from the top of New Jersey to North Carolina tail of the dragon. Took skyline drive to blue ridge parkway to Cherokee North Carolina down to Robinsville. It was an epic trip. Got my motorcycle license in 1977. You call it experience I'm just old lmao.
I have the M10 SP great bike overall
It’s a proper beast. I do like the mid range power delivery, on the MT10 🏍️😂👍
Had both, loved both. It’s a win win. 👍🤪🇨🇦
I guess that’s the best way to pick one is to have both lol. I couldn’t fault any bike but, I personally would prefer the mt09 sp purely because I could get more out the throttle on the street, and it feel lighter, especially in the uk on the twisty roads. 👍
coming from an mt 03 what is the better option? looking for something that can do a lot of interstate miles which is why i’m considering the mt10
@@redrum5.0_ The 10 will be a more stable freeway bike, but the 09 would suit city riding. I still have a tracer and xsr900. One for each, but I’m old and can afford it. 😵💫
@@user-hf8ie8mf3n do you think the 10 would be too big of a jump in power?
@@redrum5.0_ Not for me to decide. Ego or love of riding, practicality, etc. Why do you need it or want it? Definitely test ride something, then you’ll have at least some kind of reference. Cheers 👍
I have a 2023 MT 09 SP the difference between drive mode 1 & 2 are so small that 2 is unnecessary, I'm in 3 in traffic and 1 in the twisties.
Thanks for the info Joe, it’s always nice to get a owner’s perspective on this 👍
I rode 2023 MT-09 sp yesterday. Didn't like it straight out of the shop. Definitely would have to flash it and work out suspension set up. I prefer my 2017 MT-09 at the moment. 😅
Have you tried the new 2024. I rod it last week il have a new video on this soon.
@thatbikersimon they asked if I wanted to but didn't. I thinking get a sports tourer. Like a Kawasaki Ninja 1000sx
@@pmanning431 so many good bikes out there. Best try and test ride as many as you can.
Managed to pick up a mt10 new for £12.5k so that's a £4k difference to the sp. I don't think the Ohlins, braided lines and fancy paint is really worth it at those prices. The standard full adjustable KYB suspension is great if you spend the time dialling it in.
That’s the way to do it steve, looks like you got a bargain there. Its realy about setting the suspension up for the individual person, most of the fancy bit don’t make a difference to how people generally ride. Ride safe and enjoy 👍
@@thatbikersimon The key point of the sp electronic suspension is that it's constantly adapting to the road and you can adjust at the touch of a button to how your riding. Soft and comfortable for some cruising, harder and sharper for a sportier ride, maybe you need to add preload for some luggage or pillion. I don't need any of those easily accessed features for my riding but for others they might have use for it. To me it's £4k saved. Yamaha are generously chucking in £1k of genuine accessories which is another great reason to get an mt10 before they discontinue them.
That depends on a way you use it. I do track days + gymkhana + regular commuting on my MT 10 SP. And it's sooooooooo much pleasure to switch suspension settings in a couple of clicks before and after training (soft for comfortable commuting and hard for training). But you're right, there's no need in Ohlins if you only do commuting because you don't need to change suspension setting that often. Looks like the best decision for you
@@МаркЯкубов-я9к I've no idea how you'd need to adjust your suspension for gymkhana (softer? harder?) and I very rarely do track days now. The fully adjustable standard kyb is very easy to adjust though with a couple of tools for those occasions and takes just a couple of minutes which also has the advantage of focusing your mind on your suspension setup and how it feels. Where electronic suspension shines to me is when you're taking a pillion or riding with luggage on a semi regular basis and can switch settings pretty much on the fly.
Get my new 09sp on the first September,,,my 10 is traded in,,the 10 is to scary, lol,,but both bikes smiles per miles,
I can’t fault you I think the 09 is more than enough for the road for sure, and the sp
Is worth the extra pennies. Enjoy the ride 👍🏍️💨💨
Which one was more fun. The 10 or the 9?
I considered both of these bikes. Liked the MT09SP, but...the MT10 *exists*. Bought the daddy MT and absolutely love it. Complete beast when you want, perfectly mannered commuter when you don't. And the sound... hhhnnnggg.
I can’t fault you for going for the MT10 and I would probably have done the same, but having riden the mt09 sp back to back I could probably ride the mt09 as quick in the corners but I can’t deny I like the power of the MT10 💨💨💨💨
Stuck between the 2023 mt09sp, mt10sp, ducati v4s and aprilia v4 tuono 1100 factory. I currently have 2020 s1000rr m. Im don with leaning forward and stressing my back. What to pick… hmmm. I hear the ducati and aprilia gets unbearably hot during traffic.
Choosing a new motorcycle can be exciting! If you're looking for a more comfortable, upright riding position compared to your S1000RR, the MT-09SP and MT-10SP from Yamaha might be great options. They offer a more relaxed riding stance. However, it's important to test ride them to see which suits you best.
Regarding the Ducati V4S and Aprilia V4 Tuono 1100 Factory, it's true that high-performance bikes like these can generate more heat, especially in traffic. You may want to consider this factor if you frequently encounter congested roads. Test rides and research can help you gauge their heat management.
Ultimately, the choice comes down to your personal preferences and priorities, whether it's comfort, performance, or a balance of both.
How did you feel about the mt 10 off the line? I had a used gen 2 for like 1000 miles and unfortunately had to get rid of it at the beginning of the summer. I felt it underwhelming off the line. Was something wrong with my bike? I had it flashed and an exhaust. Albeit I only was able to get about 400 miles on the flash before I had to sell. I’m looking at another one now 😂 and on the fence between the 10, the 09sp and the z900. I like animalistic machines 😂
Oh man, sorry to hear you had to let go of your MT-10 so soon, especially after just getting it flashed and fitted with a new exhaust. It's a bummer you didn't get to enjoy it for longer. About the bike feeling underwhelming off the line, it could be a few things. Maybe the flash wasn't perfectly tuned for your bike, or there could have been some other minor issue. Usually, the MT-10 is known for its punchy performance, so it's a bit surprising.
As for choosing between the MT-10, MT-09SP, and Z900 - that's a tough call! They're all great machines. The MT-09SP is a bit more nimble and might feel more responsive than the MT-10, while the Z900 is a solid all-rounder with a more upright and comfortable ride. It really depends on what you're looking for - outright power and presence (MT-10), agility and tech (MT-09SP), or a balanced, versatile ride (Z900).
If you love that raw, animalistic vibe, the MT-10 definitely has it in spades, but the MT-09SP isn't far behind and could be a more exciting ride overall. The Z900, while a bit more tame, still has plenty to offer. Maybe give them all a test ride if you can? That's the best way to know which one really is the one. Ride safe matey. 🏍️💨💨💨
I’ve owned a Z900 , I replaced that with the mt10 last February. I’m still gutted over getting rid of the Z , let alone how bad I feel about the 10 lol . There’s a dealer not too far from me that has the 10 discounted by almost 2 grand and about a grand discount on a 09sp. Which makes the choice that much harder when the numbers are that close lol. Thanks for your input brother, I appreciate it
I had a gen 3 mt09 and thought ill try the gen 2 mt10, took it for a test ride and felt so underwhelmed and boring! Mt09 all the way
I'm wondering which one I should buy?
I would go for the 09 sp for sure
I would sooner have the MT 09 the 10 is just to much power for the road.
There both great bikes but I think your right I would always be tempted by the bigger engine but 117bhp is still more than most can use on the road
True, just got an mt10 and i never use 5th or 6th gear. Can cruise around the city in first gear.
@@Aspyeater3869 lol 👍
21 mt09 was my first bike got 13k+ miles in 8 months. 23 MT10 joining the collection in a few months.
@@tigeurrilla excellent 👌
How does the MT-10 compare to your streetfighter??
Cheers 👍🏻
Good question Jonathan, it’s compares very well, I’ve always been a Ducati fan and i my eyes it’s the ultimate street bike but riding the standard MT10 has certainly opened my eyes to yamaha I think they’ve done a great job with there bike and if I had bought an MT10 first I don’t think I would be bothered about the Streetfighter because it ticks all the boxes. I prefer the mid range power on the Yamaha and value for money it’s a better buy. There both to quick for the roads, but having owned the Streetfighter I wouldn’t swap to the yamaha.
@@thatbikersimon Thanks for getting back to me, i currently ride a 22 plate speed triple 1200rs, changing it March next year. I’m in a little dilemma, I’ve ridden both the new 23 MT-10 & the 23 Streetfighter V4S. Touching on what you said about ticking all the boxes, the new MT-10sp with semi active suspension and the CP4 engine is an good choice, but the Ducati is just more special, a proper slice of exotica. I’m torn. 🤣🤣
@@jonathanfurneaux1973im on the same boat. Stuck between 2023 mt10sp and 23 ducati sfv4s. I was also looking at the aprilia tuano v4 1100 factory. Someone told me the sfv4s and aprilia gets really hot to the point it shuts off during traffic. Gets unbearably hot.
Has anyone heard about the MT10 blowing up? I been looking to trade my MT09 in on one but keep hearing engine problems.
I’ve not heard of anything of this. Sometimes the problem with social media is it only take one issue and it’s gets blown out of proportion. I’m sure if you ask the question on FB page I’m sure you’ll only get positive feedback.
CP 2, CP 4, & especially CP 3 are bullet proof.
Be so rich so you can just own both... ;(
That would be the perfect solution 👍
I've got both, they're pretty cheap on pcp, bought the 09 for cash then a year later traded my MT07 for an MT10, I'll probably sell the MT09 to help pay off the ballon payment on the MT10, 10 just feels better if you're a bigger rider, 9 looks so much smaller
Contraction control 🤣🤣🤣
I remember saying that 😂👍
Group demo? Zzz
There is a option to ride alone but demo days a good it give you the opportunity to ride lots of bikes.
