The big question in my mind is, where are all the Jeep customers asking for EV Jeeps?
not sure they exist
My coworker's wife bought one after wrecking the normal one.
She bought it during the Covid shortages paid almost $90K for that.
@groos… She certainly did NOT buy an EV Jeep as it doesn’t exist yet. She might have bought a Plug-in Hybrid 4xe.
Government mandates don't care what you want.
I could tell you where, California. Otherwise, the rest of the country care less ! Wrangler PHEV for the past three years, and charge it for the last three months, because of a software glitch that they have no fix for. Super frustrating, and with my lease coming due in the next six weeks, I have looked elsewhere for another vehicle. You basically can’t reach anyone who can give you a solid answer. Typical poor quality for customer service. Detroit definitely falls seriously short on this. Jeep has only sent me a recall notice, and when I called the number the lady said the earliest there would be a fix would be first quarter. Of course this will come and go and so will my Jeep. They have lost a very loyal customer, who has sent many referrals to my local dealership. Not very bright, but no one at the top ever ever listens anyway.
Stellantis has sent Jeep to the electric chair
More giant grocery getters that'll cost over $60k at the dealership. This isn't the direction jeep needs to go. It's been said a lot, but they need to emulate the Jimney and make a small, affordable body on frame offroader with lots of upgrade potential. That's what the people want.
Sadly, and I say this is a former Wrangler owner AND a 911 owner, the commodity grocery getters like whatever-the-f$&% these are and the Cayenne and Macan fund the enthusiast products. I don’t like it, no enthusiast does, but these boring “look at me” soccer mom and poser dad products print money for these brands.
The Jimny is a neat little vehicle. It's interesting to me that as expensive, large, and unaffordable as vehicles have become in America, Europe gets a ton of small, affordable vehicles from brands that are sold here. They are spoiled for choice. Americans just hate small, basic vehicles on the whole. I mean just look at how gigantic $80k luxury trucks outsell subcompact economy cars now. It's insane. Small vehicles were selling poorly so the manufacturers have been phasing them out in the U.S. I don't know that the Jimny or something like it would survive in America, which is a shame.
@palebeachbum the EPA Cafe standards is why we don't have any small cheap trucks. As footprint of vehucle increases the required mpg decreases. So large trucks can be legal where something like a 1980s ranger cannot.
The side by side market would destroy any such vehicle. It would make more sense for Polaris to make more street legal vehicles.
25 year olds arent buying side by sides. But they'd sure as hell buy a $25k jeep. @@jasonperry7970
Seems that Jeep is riding on its reputation and customer loyalty, while providing a substandard product.
tbh they’be been doing that for a decade
@@mike9588yeah, ever since Mercedes walked onto the stage.
And I write that while owning an ‘07 model. Just some of the corners cut makes you scratch your head.
Except there stock and profit are through the roof. Can't argue they are crushing it from a corporate perspective
Agreed. See also dodge-chrysler.
In reality jeep has been here for a decade. Outside the wrangler no one is buying NEW product to take it off road, and post warranty used sales where people finally feel comfortable hacking up bumpers and installing lifts on grand Cherokees mean nothing to manufacturers. They need the on-road stuff to supplement their wrangler, because that's not enough for the company to survive.
The Recon is a darn handsome vehicle. Great proportions, excellent style, perfect size. And because it’s an EV I couldn’t have any less interest in it.
I agree, it even reminds of XJ but EV... 🫤
Id buy it with the right range 100%
You and most other Jeep fans... Yup. This EV sh|t is ridiculous.
exactly. I was thinking.. hmm.. good competition for Bronco.. then heard it's all Electric.. and then I laughed and laughed. sucks to be you, Jeep.
@@deemcclanahanfor real! Put a V6 or turbo 4 in it and call it a Cherokee! Something just a touch less hard core than a Wrangler, that trades just a little off road capability for on road comfort, and you’d have an absolute winner. Good Lord, who is making the decisions over there?
EV’s? No thanks.
The fact they can cut prices while adding items in tell you how much they were inflating the prices for their own gain and not just to cover cost increases.
Exactly, it’s insulting when you understand that.
And a cut of $1,700 is nothing
in Canada the 2024 compass starts at $41k.. i mean who would buy that unless they are married to the brand
My ram 1500 sxt 2017 was 35 000$ after 25% off . The price I payed my ram 1500 classic 2022 65000$ it only doubled its normal right ?
oops, it's $80k, no one can buy em
Jeeps have become overpriced.
In Europe the compass 4xe starts at 47,5k euro.
Way to much for what it is.
Wrangler 4xe starts at a staggering 85k euro.
Garbage vehicle as well. They call it the compass because you will need one when u get stuck being somewhere that vehicle has no business being.
It’s not only that jeep is too expensive and too much focused on luxury trims where you pay premium for irrelevant features and needlessly expensive materials. The main problem is that jeep did not develop and improve their popular models in years and is far behind the trend and what people want. The recon looks great but without a version of this with a gas engine it will remain an expensive niche product. My jeep is 9.5 years old and I will have to replace it in the next year or two. And sadly it won’t be a jeep.
Yet the CEO will be given millions, even if he bankrupts the company.
Why do you say "I will have to replace it"?
Doubt this is the right crowd but there are a bunch of Chinese gas and/ or hybrids- ladder on frame and similar vehicles available, just not politically available....all far cheaper and with more tech and better interiors. All the off-road specs you'd expect. Australians and are loving it. Tank 300 + 500 + 700, byd bao 5, byd yangwang u8, jetour j2, etc...
Wow, you can tell all of these companies are taking their guidance from the WEF and not their customers- good luck Jeep!!
Well they are the largest threat to humanity.
@matthewpixley4941 you’re exactly right. I wish more people would wake up to that fact.
I recently drove a newer Cherokee while my old truck was getting repaired. I was happy to get back in my 90's toyota.
Can we just get a naturally aspirated Recon with the new I-6, 6-Speed manual, manual transfer case, locking diffs, and no off road modes!
You don’t want a manual jeep. They have been recalled for 3 years and can’t fix them
Oh, you can get one. It's called a Jeep Cherokee, production rand for decades. :)
@@billricheter5678 only because they changed to a garbage transmission and clutch. the ones they used in the jk and earlier were all fine
@@billricheter5678 I have one. Of the 7 manual shift vehicles I've owned, it's the hardest to drive smoothly. But it can be fixed. We've had manual transmissions that have worked for 100 years,. It is possible.

Stellantis is falling into the abyss, and shaving "$1700" off the sticker price is not going to help. They also have a lot of complaints by owners for terrible build quality and reliability. I think I recall seeing a video by CarEdge, where they said the average transaction price of a Jeep Wrangler is $60k+ now. It was $35k a few years ago.
1700! What a joke! People will never see that decrease, dealers will find a way to charge them back to the customer
You lost me at electric 😂
I was really interested until the ev
Losing billions on EVs sounds like a great business model
Tesla and BYD seem to be doing well
So what's your alternative, just close up shop when mandates begin in 5 years?
Stellantis, owner of Chrysler Jeep Fiat, was in the news just last week because they are making a profit on EVs. It is typical for a company to lose money for many years when either starting up or introducing new products and new technology. Amazon, Apple, Microsoft and others lost billions for as much as decades in some cases.
@@rightwingsafetysquad9872 Vote out politicians and close down agencies that impose ridiculous regulations on us.
@@rcpmacStelantis made a profit on Fiat 500 evs which sold well as a city car in Europe. Small and tightly packed cities where people don’t need to go far are the only times electric is viable. For jeep electric is embarrassing and will undoubtedly alienate the consumers.
Looks like the 4xe’s rotting away on dealer lots will have some company.
Jeep needs to lower prices an increase the quality. My best jeep was my 2001 TJ minus the frame issue that 4.0L was bullet proof. Never let me down. Was going to shop for a new one but decided to go used so much cheaper. Keep up the good work on the channel guys.
You mean lower price and increase quality.... Neither are negotiable
I had a 97 TJ, it was a tank!
Owned a TJ, it was the biggest pile of garbage ever and warned me off the brand.
It was only not lemoned because it was always something else breaking and always something that didn't leave the vehicle stranded.
My favorite was when the instrument panel would go blank with all gauges to zero every few months.
The recon is a widened and stretched renegade basically
Both are going to be too expensive to matter.
If only people weren't stupid enough to take 7- and 8-year car loans.
I can get behind the plug-in hybrid but fully electric no thank you!
I own some expensive vehicles, but we purchased them used. $70-$95k MSRP for mid $30’s. I don’t want to lease. Crazy times.
For me personally, EV is a deal breaker out the gate.
Yep. Same for me. Batteries are too inefficient as storehouses of energy to have genuine utility as a power supply for off-pavement transportation to me.
Good episode, having a guest on can be hit or miss. Sam was entertaining, definitely have him back. Thanks Guys!
I wheel with 4xEs their 4 cylinder motor is always running when off road the gas mileage is same as the pentastar and their battery weight is a limitation for off roading I think most buyers who actually wheel their wranglers regret having a 4Xe
the recon is for the same crowd that buys a Rubicon just to be a mall crawler. believe me they know there's a market for it
At a time when EV’s are losing ground and Hybrids are gaining popularity, this is a huge mess for Jeep.
the jeep recon should have had the ram charger architecture generator to charge up the ev... how can anyone go offroading with range anxiety.. ?
He's way more optimistic about jeeps future than me
Most of the brands seem they will still be overpriced,
EV's wont be the volume seller they want them to be for more than a few years in the future ,
And they haven't addressed dealership markups soon to use any incentives as an excuse to overcharge
That rendering of the recon is what the cherokee should have been except not electric. Also absolutely love that color that bright yellowish green
Jeep has lost the plot
WOW! I hope Jeep does their homework. Toyota is out there doing their homework and ready to eat your lunch! Not to mention the new "Scout" is coming soon to take some of the market share. The prices of $60,000, $70,000, and higher is just insane for any average family. We shall see.
Scout being brought to market by VAG is a nonstarter. I’ve been burned by them so badly multiple times. As much as the nostalgia pulls, I wouldn’t touch it with a 100’ pole.
Plus that Scout is an EV.
I hope we get the Toyota IMV truck. I think a $10k to start truck is what america wants.
I was excited to see a new Scout coming out but after finding out it's just another battery powered money-mobile I was sad but not surprised. These companies have overextended themselves on the EV market and are so brainwashed they think if they keep forcing EV's on us we'll eventually submit but they are wrong and it'll financially cripple them in the process. Seems like that's the only thing that will wake them up.
EV’s are worthless for off road. Jeep continues to turn their backs on their customer base.
I really love the looks of the Recon. But they’re out of their minds if they don’t throw that new hurricane engine in there as an option.
I currently own/drive a 2023 Cherokee X and love it (previous Cherokees - 1995 SE Off-Road Pkg and 1988 Cherokee Olympic Ed.) Jeep needs to build affordable products with solid off-roading chops. None of my Jeep friends want an EV Wrangler. Great reporting TFL!!
The question is... Have they figured out how to engineer front brakes, RADIOS, seatbelt retractors, speed sensors and prevent their machines from randomly cutting out? I want to believe...
My jeep dealer denies that my seat belt retractor in the back is broken
@@henryjones6957 It's brutal. I lost count of how many people I know with the above problems. The seat belt retractors are horrible for sure. Looks like dogs chewed up both front belts on mine. Still a force of habit to trust the retractors lol.
I agree looks like the Land Cruiser
I know all electric is the future but I don't believe it's as close as our government tried to mandate.
Lack of infrastructure for charging, speed of charging and range which wouldn't be so bad if the first two weren't issues
I think Jeep needs to hybrid their gladiator, wrangler and this car like Toyota has done, to me the 4xe doesn't cut it as given available tech the range is horrible
All electric is not the future . It's. Motor used as generator on electric axels
@@BushcraftQuebecneither can be the future if theyve been the present for 2 decades
The issue with the transition to electric isn’t lack of charging infrastructure, speed of charging or range, though each of those things have an effect for certain segments of the automotive market. The biggest issue today is the cost of money - high interest rates and inflation-based pricing are making all vehicles cost more, which is slowing demand overall. Think of EV’s like cell phones or smartphones. When cell phones first came out, they were either big bricks or bag phones that offered less than an hour of talk time, had terrible service, limited areas and high costs. But people started buying them (for work) and within a decade everything improved and we’re now 30 years on we can carry a smartphone that is more powerful than desktop computers from a decade ago. This is how EV advancements is going to happen - is already happening.
Like with all technology it is going to advance and advance quickly.
In my opinion for there to be the widest acceptance you are going to need increased charging infrastructure with speed or wireless especially in the cities because most parking is on public streets and you can't run an extension cord out your apartment window especially in winter.
The other issue at least for me is if I'm driving from Boston to Florida I want to be able to fully charge in the time it takes for my wife to take a bathroom break.
I don't want to have to spend an hour or more at a highway travel center waiting for my car to charge
I don't have that kind of patience among other things
I'm not going to lie convenience is key both at my home and on the road.
I'm not adopting full electric if the convenience if you will is not there.
To me at the moment Toyota has it right hybrids to goose the gas mileage and small engines with turbos to goose the power and satisfy our need for speed
Not perfect but environmentally better than a big V8 getting single digit gas mileage
Although I'm not going to lie the sound of a 4 with a turbo isn't as satisfying as the sound of a hemi
@@stanleyfurash7929This is currently a possibility With the right vehicle and charger. While you don’t get fully charged, you do get to 80% which will get you another 4 hours in the road approximately, depending on the vehicle for about a 15 minute stop. While I have not gone all the way to FL, I have made it to Atlanta from the Boston area with each stop being an average of 15 minutes, each way, several times. The problem is, not all vehicles are up to this charging speed yet, even new ones just being released, and the charging infrastructure is not there yet. In time, it will be. It takes time for the technological advances, as well as the infrastructure roll out.
I guess I will hold onto my TJ for another few years.
If you actually use your TJ's low range four-wheel drive capability, you might want to hold on to it indefinitely.
That's the only Wrangler that was actually worth a damn off pavement, in my opinion.. In stock form, YJ's sucked. JK's and JL's are too portly and physically massive.
I wish I would have held on to my TJ.
But if I had of been smart and done that, I wouldn't have a use for the CJ 2A in my garage now.
They were good off-pavement but they had to replace my driveshaft every four months when it would start clanking when shifting between reverse and a forward gear.
We have a 99 and 02 TJ, I’ll just keep rebuilding them…
I love the Recon's look- wish it would be offered as a hybrid also though.
Love the design of both vehicles 😊 unfortunately I would purchase anything from Jeep 🚫 quality reliability and price.
The new zenbivy system looks so so so amazing!!! The Nemo chair looks really nice, but I do want to try the big agnes skyline chair first.
And I wish I would see the “ul” mystery ranch bag more.
I loved watching this guy hop Skip and Jump around the fact of the matter with pricing. Translation = After consumers had enough of the getting totally shafted on outragous pricing, they started walking away and going to other brands.... Just tell it like it IS fella..
I do sales at a cdjr dealership and we have people returning the 4xe's and trading them back for only gas powered vehicles. There's no custumers for electric or semi electric.
I’d be willing to bet a large swath of potential wrangler buyers don’t want “more content” or value added whatever. We want more affordable off-roaders with what you need, but nothing you don’t. To me that was the spirit of the Jeep. Every man’s capable off-roader that doesn’t break the bank. I went to my local Jeep dealer and didn’t see any wranglers stickered under 45 grand. Most were 60 or more. Adding features isn’t going to make that any easier to swallow
Owning a 2019 Compass my self, I can’t wait for the electric version or even for the avenger to be available for the latinamerican market but also the pricing lineup to be restructured
Good interview/information.
Styling on the Recon is not bad. Reminds me of an updated XJ. However, EV is a hard no. Give me a solid axle stripper model with the straight six for 26K.
1:46 Those rear lower control arms look similar in shape to those on my 2014 Jeep Compass! 2:46
The Recon i think looks really great. Looking forward to see when it comes for sale, and you guys can take it for a real test.
Greetings from a Norwegian living in Brazil. By the way, here we have the 4xe Compass, and Renegade.
Only thing I want to hear about is prices coming down. I was a full blown jeeper but have left due to excessive costs. Hello Toyota
Yup. Recently bought a used 2020 4Runner TRD OR. It was $35k with 27k miles on it. If I had wanted to stretch my budget more, I could have gotten a new 2024 TRD OR Premium for $44k. Comes with a rear locker, off road modes, etc., and a reliable proven 4.0L V6. Jeep can't touch that with a 10 foot pole. This move to PHEV or Full electric across their range is going to sink the company.
Beautiful shade of green.
Jeep Recon should be the modern version of the Jeep cherokee XJ. It looks more like what a Jeep Cherokee should be now. Not the ugly thing they call a Jeep Cherokee today
Was in the market for a new SUV to replace my old Yukon after 40+ years of driving GM trucks (two K-Blazers and this Yukon with 360K miles). The current Yukon has gotten too large for us empty nesters and GM has not interest in competitive pricing. The GC looked like a good choice, especially as costs started coming down, but I was concerned about reliability on the 4xe model the dealers insisted on applying profit-padding ad-ons. Then the new GX came out. Solves the reliability concerns (even as a first year model I'd trust it since it's built in their top of the line Japanese facility), I like the flexibility, look and size, and the price is about the same. After the "first on the block" folks get their heads ripper off by their neighborhood Lexus dealers, I'll be visiting them to see what they can do for me.
I have a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon, it needs the new SST 3.0, even if it is detuned to 360 HP and 410 Torque. It doesn't need or want a 4 cylinder 2.0 4xE.
Maybe Jeep will pull back going all electric like Toyota Mercedes. One could only hope
I think the Recon is quite good looking, but wonder about the practicality of an EV-only platform for an off-roader. I wonder if they’ll structure it so they can offer other drivetrains, like a PHEV setup.
A few facts: Jeep prices haven't "seemingly" gone up; they've gone up 61% in the last 5 years. Sales have dropped 34% over the same time period. I'm also not interested in EVs.
These look like they will both do great on my trips to the grocery store.
1:57 I wonder if the door sheet metal will actually be straight like that photo or if it will be dented af at the hinges like every wrangler. 😂
It needs some kind of range extender motor if you're really going to take it somewhere remote.
Reminds me of the Toyota FJ concepy render.
We don’t want overpriced EV’s. The woke Jeep leadership has lost touch with what the Jeep is. An affordable off roader
We want a basic no frills crank windows Jimmy that is off road focused for sub $20k
The Recon is a nice looking Bronco / Defender mash up.
It speaks volumes about Jeep when I think most people would rather have a Rivian rather than a Jeep Recon in terms of quality, durability and reliability.
I like Rivian, but I hear their vehicles are a nightmare to repair, either in the event of component failure or a collision. Much like early days of Tesla.
I just hope they come to the UK
The wife and i were at the local offroad park yesterday, and they were installing fast charge systems for the ev offroaders. Just kidding thats not happening. There is a huge buckey's around the corner, but they dont have chargers either.
The recon is awesome! This is coming from a FJ owner. But… No gasoline engine, I wouldn’t even consider it.
Can we get an upgrade to the 3.6 in the JL +JTs????
7:01 Compass & Renegade have had 4XE in Europe since 2019.
I have owned a Cherokee and too Libertys. I was excited for the Recon until I heard electric…
Im not an electric car hater! I think Teslas are some of it not the best daily drivers (as long as you have a charger at home). However, electric + off roaders just doesnt mix. Limited range, no portable refueling, no lockers. Sure, the instant torque & linear power delivery is great, but its worthless if you cant have lockers (real lockers, not e lockers or some electric system that uses your brakes to mimic a locker).
What do you need lockers for if you can independently power each wheel?
These electric brake or motor based lockers never work as well as the simple mechanical locker. These quasi lockers always end up slipping (probably as a safety measure and being too conservative at that). A mechanical locker will hold until it physically breaks. Breaking is not good but it’s up to me in the field to find its limits and not to a programmer in an air conditioned office in Silicon Valley or wherever.
@@degnarius Why would you ever want to manually select a drive wheel?
I'd like to see if the Ramcharger range extender technology has a place on Jeep's roadmap. Range extenders are maybe under-developed as an EV option. On the other hand, it is a LOT of extra hardware, maybe a ladder-frame truck is the only good place to really implement the concept....
My 2015 Grand Cherokee has a range extender. It's called stopping at a gas station and filling up in 5 minutes then driving for another 450 miles.
@@JF-lt5zc And if your gasoline engine didn't waste 75 percent of the energy in that gasoline by turning it into heat instead of power, you could go 1800 miles on that fillup.
Not arguing about the efficiency of gasoline or diesel engines. They are what they are and their uses are widely established. That being said, the majority of us don't want to have to deal with battery powered cars and the hassle of keeping them ready to go. @@squirreldriver

I used to be obsessed with Jeeps and most other FCA related models until I learned about their quality reputation draining over the last several years. Same goes to GM and Ford as well even though I'm kinda a Ford guy. One of the reasons why I moved on to loving Toyota 4x4s and other Japanese stuff cuz they have much better quality reputation.
The Wagoneer S concept seems like it competes with that EV Toyota Land Cruiser Se concept, which is also more of a street focus luxury suv.

The Wrangler has gotten so big and expensive. Need something Renegade size, but back to basics with actual solid axles, crank windows....like a Suzuki Jimmny. It'd also be interesting if someone like Polaris tried to make a street legal UTV based vehicle.
I enjoy my JK. I have zero interest upgrading to a JL due to the cost and maintenance issues. More technology equals more maintenance issues. Then there is the issues with taking a $60,000+ vehicle off road exposing it to scratches, dings, dents, and expensive parts that tend to get damaged or broken.
Wranglers aren’t luxury SUV Range Rovers. They are supposedly designed to be go anywhere off road utility vehicles. Seriously off roading an expensive luxury vehicle for fun is limited to very wealthy people that enjoy tearing up their expensive toys.
The Recon, will be placed just below the Wrangler in the model line. Making the Wrangler the "Luxury"/Halo 4x4 SUV; of the brand. Most people don't off-road them anyways... so the Recon, will do just fine. Offering a lot of the Wrangler utility! This allows the Wrangler to scale-up in price... with editions priced like G-Wagons!!! You heard it here first!!!!
I got behind a new Grand Wagoneer the other day in traffic. I was in my 1996 Cherokee XJ that has 388k on it. I thought the GW just looked like another bloated, overpriced luxury trophy soccer mom mobile. I paid 5 grand for this Cherokee and the 4.0L is still running strong and looks great alongside my faithful 2000 TJ SPORT. C'mon JEEP, get back to basics.
The prices have just gotten crazy for all cars
I would be more interested in the Recon if it were a hybrid.....
Jeep still has to make more and greater price adjustments- and this includes the Wagoneer
Thought the clicky picture was a new Isuzu trooper.
The fact that they think rivian is cutting into their sales is everything that is wrong with the company. The entry level base model 2-door Wrangler is still listed at 47k at my local dealer while they're inventory is overflowing the lot.
You are talking about the no options RUBICON. That’s NOT entry level at all.
The base, no options SPORT 2-door Wrangler is $32,000.
@@is6566 it was a two-door Wrangler Sport base MSRP was 36.7k 10 k appearance package plus a markup.
Ok but you can buy a 2-door Sport with manual and zero options for $32k. I know because I have one. Manual roll up windows are not necessarily fun but save money.
Sounds like a fun Jeep. I'm just pointing out that the cheapest Wrangler available at my local dealer with over 50 Wranglers
Yes. Part of that is the dealers’ fault. They order super high trim fully optioned vehicles because that generates profit for them. When I was searching for my wrangler in 2021 I found the list of Wrangler invoice prices. Paying MSRP the dealership made less than $1,000 profit on my Jeep. A Rubicon 5-6x more profit.
How silly is to have $10k options on a Sport trim when the whole point of that trim is to be inexpensive. I had to buy 3 states over because I didn’t want options and didn’t want to pay over MSRP.
Oh wow! More jeeps to sit on dealer lots .
