I feel like the place you guys decided to off road the new taco after it broke is a little flat. Like I’m confident I could do it in 2wd in my 2020 trd off road. The 3rd gen seems like it will be the last of this legend
I’m always surprised when you guys are surprised what certain vehicles can do. My entire childhood was driving street cars in places they don’t belong. If you have clearance and the will, you can go places.
Indeed!! I can remember seeing an old Nissan Hardbody mini truck that was 2 wheel drive on street tires getting further back in an off-road park than huge jacked up 4X4s could. His secret is he would use momentum and would skim across the top of the deep mud holes! It is not always about how capable your vehicle is but rather how big your stones are, and what your skills are.
I drive a lifted subaru outback. I’ve made it up trails that actual 4x4 trucks could not do without getting winched out. It’s all about being smart and picking the right line. It is truly amazing how much you can do with the wrong equipment
Two observations: the low angle camera on the Tacoma seems to show the paint on the doors is orange peeled. The interior is growing on me. I never liked two tone seats but those are pretty good.
Blueberry lives! I cant wait to see the mid-size comparison test. It should be very interesting to see how each vehicle performs under the same conditions. Andre should probably bring his Colorado for a recovery rig again. By default, Andre should get a week off from all cruise control jokes, because he rescued the new Tacoma. LOL
Andre: I don't think it (Honda Acty) was ever designed to climb steep mountains. Utter twaddle. That is exactly the terrain they were designed to operate on. That's the problem when people only visit the Tokyo area. Japan has roads that make that 'steep hill' you climbed look like a nursery slope. Just try traversing from Gunma Prefecture all the way across (east to west) of Nagano Prefecture and you will go up and down so many steep mountain passes that you will feel sea sick at the end of it.
I would go through the Gunma pass, but ever since this guy in a white AE86 tofu delivery car came racing through, I have been intimated to take anything on those roads. He was just so lightning quick and I could never surmount to that kind of speed.
@lucasblanchard47 the "yea" referred to the statement "didn't look all that difficult " I payed attention. Fact is this is happening to at least a handful of these new Tacos. Ouch.. truck just looks fragile overall
Toyota: Ok guys, we’re really going to need you to make another video where you compare the Tacoma to something more ridiculous like a 1999 Craftsman Riding Mower.
LMAO no, the truth is 381,000 tacomas will be recalled because there was some welding slag...what can happen from that varies...maybe it makes a nut loose and maybe that nut gets soo loose it falls off...
Funny but proof that new design they released in phillipines should be what we go with. Because i can hit the brakes and not do a front flip. Plus i think they said there eas a diesel and i bet you the corrupt epa has no jurisdiction there so i bet theres no def piss bottles or engines sucking their own farts as a way of just letting satan screw us and laugh in our face making our stuff crap in the false lie of helping the enviorment by filling up the junkyards faster
Roman drove the tiny truck like he stole it and Andre drove the Tacoma like an old lady, whats the point of going offroad if you're afraid to have fun because you think you're truck will break?
I'd love to see the 2024 Tacomo go up against the 2024 Ridgeline, just a suggestion since that Kei Truck is a honda. I'd love to drive one of those mini trucks I bet they're indestructible.
Pure comedy. Thanks for the laugh. Growing up my family had a Suzuki samurai and I took it off road all the time and it amazed us what it would do. Completely stock.
The Kei trucks are tough. Basically the “F150” for Japan markets. I have a Subaru Sambar with a locker and “extra low” or “granny” gear. It’s amazing. I use it in the cemeteries to set monuments.
I understand that people have had problems with dealers and their shops, especially on problems with new models, but there is a lot of benefit to having TFL "troubleshoot" and get a manufacturer's direct attention. If a regular person gets pushback for the same problem, they have the benefit of showing the shop this video, including the service ticket. Also, it will be interesting to see how the transmission temp does in hotter weather. Thanks for the great content.
I think its more serious though. The front diff can't handle the added low end torque. I"ve read three other total failures like the one TFL had. This should never have gone to production and if they don't put a complete stop sale their reputation will go into the gutter. Toyota fanboys will be devastated and really drives home that this brand is mostly perception these days.

As an owner of a kei truck, there was no reason to bomb it up the hill like that. However, still loved the fact that it shows how utilitarian they truly are, especially with the full size bed, larger than the tacomas.
Love that Kei truck! The problem with the Toyota breaking is it broke as designed. Which means when you need it the most, in the harshest terrain, it will quit on you.

For private land or are they street legal in Canada? They are not street legal in most 🇺🇸 states. Truck companies surely have lobbied against Kei truck legality in North America. They would be everywhere at $5000 a piece otherwise.

Respect to Roman for the full send on the little Honda truck! I really enjoyed that!
As a former kid who bagged on old square body Dodge Power Rams and Jeep Cherokee Sports, this trail looked as tough as Circus Lemonade, but then again it is a premium priced Toyota with more electronics than a space shuttle...all the things that don't inspire "toughness" Give me a 4 wheel leaf sprung solid axle with tall skinny tires any day!
Idles up the hill in 4 low. They drive the Honda up the hill at 30 mph. 😂 that’s a 2 wheel drive hill all day. 😂
Afraid they were going to break it again.
Toyota engineers told them to go easy. Newly revised parts will be available in November.
@ryanb8736 seriously?
@@ryanb8736youre really gullible i think. When i learned to handmake my own wallets I didnt stop until i knew it was done right and i did it better than what everyone else did who was trying to sell me theres. I could tell they were skimping cutting corners and upcharging for junk and i refused to buy it and I went and made my own and i still have it today and use it every day. If i bought other peoples id have to have bought 4 more by now because theyre corner cutting junk. Im no fool you might like to be fooled but not me. I can tell these trucks are junk. No one wants to talk about the nightmare until the well polished turds hoods. I see the current automobile market like a scam artist society upholds as honest businessmen. Evil. Regulated into the junkyards its slavery. Plastic junk.
I’d reverse up that in my 3rd gen at 15 mph while drinking a beer 🤣
Will it out last the v6?
The Frontier needs more credit for being a tough little truck, im a fan of Toyota but the new Tacoma and Tundra are over hyped. Especially with all the new Tundra engine failure videos popping up on youtube.
As I’ve said before the frontier and Nissan aren’t trying to be the best they’re just trying to give a us a dependable but capable truck that being said they’re insanely underrated and overly hated on
@@Adriangee818 I actually like the new frontier, and the older ones too… Shame that they are overpriced for what it is, a truck but everything now is overpriced, cars, food etc
As a Honda Mini-Truck owner, this video made me proud. 😁
No fear, Now the larger Toyota 😲🤫🤣
When the title for a Toyota video is "Will it break?" You know we are in a different land.
If it breaks again, Tacoma should be assembled in Japan!
The Tacoma has never been assembled in Japan
They would get slapped with a 25% tax. Thank the chicken tax
@@walawala-fo7ds too expensive to assembly in Japan. That's why they went south to Mexcio.
Toyota has a plant that used to build a truck that currently builds something else -- that might be an option. The truck they used to build was largely bulletproof proof with the 4.7 too

No way.
More versatile for sure! The entire Kei series Japanese trucks are amazingly useful and designed for working all day every day. I have a Subaru and love it.
That’s straight up false
Yeah no. I cruise 85mph down the interstate. That thing tops out at like 62mph flooring it. Its a farm toy.

TFL needs to put a trail cam in the area the Tacoma broke to see if Toyota engineers send any Tacomas up there for testing to see if thier Tacomas break too.
They could make it break anywhere I bet, considering how easily it broke.
Running 4 Tacos took their Tacoma up there and didn't break it.
Lmao one Tacoma breaks, and you guys think that’s indication they’re all defective. Sample size means something. I swear, people are stvp!d as f&@k these days.
Toyota will send engineers to remove that rock.
In ASIA, that K TRUCK is used for SLALOM RACE test. We put XL SAND BAGS in cargo above the rear wheel for better weight distribution.
You should play the "pop goes the weasel" song while offroading slowly.
Idk about this truck but I went pretty fast in 4hi up a steep rocky/muddy road in my new 23 3rd gen with no problem. I have the Overland torque tune mild/medium installed. I had the truck bouncing a little working the suspension. Did great. Andre you gotta quit playing around. Give that thing some gas!
Roman's huge smile after getting that Honda up the hill is all you need to know about which vehicle was more fun to drive. Slap some better tires and maybe a couple of skid plates on that thing and it would be a killer farm truck. They are becoming very popular on farms here in the south.
When I was stationed in Japan we saw those little trucks everywhere! They are almost indestructible!
@@user-cr3fz8lz2ipretty much like the hiluxes Toyota sells abroad but not here in US… You just can’t kill these things, all battle tested by isis, talibans etc
the $5k kei truck make it up the hill in 5 seconds, the $50k trunk made it up in 5 minutes wth 🤣
The Ranger Raptor is 55k I would rather have that than this overpriced pavement queen
I think the Frontier is a better truck than the Tacoma. Less to go wrong. Better motor and probably more reliable.
The Honda is begging for a lift and a nice set of wheels and tires
Just putting some off-road side by side tires on it would do wonders considering how it made it up both side of the climb.
@@shumann1605 for sure my friend honestly the taco needs new tires as well. TFL has the connection I don’t know why they don’t just ask for a sponsor to hook them up with some real off-road tires
I saw a video where a guy lifted one and put knobby tires on it and it looked great. There was another video where someone put tracks on a K truck.
Disappointed there are no other tire or wheel options when building a Taco on the Toyota site. More tire options are needed for sure.@@omarmandujano6772
My thoughts exactly. I SOOOO want them to mod it.
I feel like the place you guys decided to off road the new taco after it broke is a little flat. Like I’m confident I could do it in 2wd in my 2020 trd off road. The 3rd gen seems like it will be the last of this legend
Nothing i have seen so far has made Roman laugh so much
Don't underestimate those little trucks. I own 1 in the Philippines and run all over the mountains with it. It always gets me there.

I think that trail got 30" of snow. Has to be really almost undoable at this point.
Can't wait to see all six trucks in a match up.😊
Roman will need a new back after this 😂
Did you mean spine?
I’m always surprised when you guys are surprised what certain vehicles can do. My entire childhood was driving street cars in places they don’t belong. If you have clearance and the will, you can go places.
because you have actual skill. most people think that's up to the vehicle and not the driver...
It's actually the anti-rust coating across the bottom sides that gives it the orange peel look.
@jackcrackerman right and stone chip resistant. A lot of new vehicles do this on the rockers
Stone gaurd ma
Blueberry lives! I cant wait to see the mid-size comparison test. It should be very interesting to see how each vehicle performs under the same conditions. Andre should probably bring his Colorado for a recovery rig again. By default, Andre should get a week off from all cruise control jokes, because he rescued the new Tacoma. LOL
Watching Roman in that mini-truck brings back fond memories of showing up all the built-up rigs with my stock Samurai on 30" AT's. 😇

I love how Roman is giggling like a little school girl!😂 Good times!
I got to say the Honda was the most exciting part of this video
What ended up breaking last time, front diff? What you were doing when it broke didn't look all that difficult especially for an "offf-road" truck.
Yea. Cardboard drivetrain
You didn’t pay much attention to the part where they explained that.
@lucasblanchard47 the "yea" referred to the statement "didn't look all that difficult " I payed attention. Fact is this is happening to at least a handful of these new Tacos. Ouch.. truck just looks fragile overall
@lucasblanchard47 for many reasons I am SO glad I bought the GMC

This is a great ad for Honda.

381,000 Toyota Tacoma’s just got recalled for rear axles falling off.
They are not falling off. They MIGHT fall off. 😍
Junk
Telling that to Toyota fan boys is waste they’ll come up with lots of excuses like the funniest I heard yet was they were designed to fail 😂
LMAO no, the truth is 381,000 tacomas will be recalled because there was some welding slag...what can happen from that varies...maybe it makes a nut loose and maybe that nut gets soo loose it falls off...
Watching those back tires bounce off the ground in the K-truck was hilarious.
Yeah... looks really front heavy going downhill!
Roman drove the tiny truck like he stole it and Andre drove the Tacoma like an old lady, whats the point of going offroad if you're afraid to have fun because you think you're truck will break?
Or if you’re afraid to scratch your fancy truck
I'd love to see the 2024 Tacomo go up against the 2024 Ridgeline, just a suggestion since that Kei Truck is a honda. I'd love to drive one of those mini trucks I bet they're indestructible.
Why are you all baby stepping it? Thought this was suppose to be real world testing.. 2mph on a dirt road is what this looked like.
Pure comedy. Thanks for the laugh. Growing up my family had a Suzuki samurai and I took it off road all the time and it amazed us what it would do. Completely stock.
That lil K truck put the new Tacoma to shame
16:34 Roman is doing his best Arnold Schwarzenegger impression 😂😂
Andre should have gone the same speed as Roman.
At least the Honda K-truck truck bed sides folds down on both for easy access to get stuff out of thr bed.
Yes, more trucks should have that option. 👍
The Kei trucks are tough. Basically the “F150” for Japan markets. I have a Subaru Sambar with a locker and “extra low” or “granny” gear. It’s amazing. I use it in the cemeteries to set monuments.
I love the small truck. 🇨🇦
The line Roman drove the second time up, LUL xD
What an awesome episode boys! Made me laugh really hard while you were driving the Honda! Best line in while by Andre: “God Bless You Roman!”
There will always be those test guinea pigs that buy the 1st year of a new gen, suffer all the issues lol
@@HiPlains1 - At this point id go Nissan Frontier all day. It’s a naturally aspirated 3.8 V6, the VQ38DD is very close to the VQ40, which were VERY reliable.
They are not guinea pigs. Toyota has been building trucks for decades. No excuses.

The kei truck was the best part of this video. Roman was genuinely having so much fun. Just goes to show you don’t need much to have fun off road.

I own a 94 Subaru Sambar (Kei truck), a 97 Toyota Prado, a 89 UAZ-469, a 96 Ford Bronco and let me tell ya, aside from fording with the kei truck Im confident I could drive these on the same terrain and the same trails without much issue. The Kei trucks are no joke for versatility, but if you want one just know you aint getting on any highways, and all but 8 states wont let you register them as a car. But man they’re fun! Also definitely make sure you buy one with 4WD if you do get one.

No answers on what broke, but I’m still guessing it was the front differential clutch sleeve, which is the primary component of the ADD, that failed.
The little blue truck that almost could.
Nice video but two things missing here, 1. How the repairs were done and 2. A repeat of the same test to see if it will break or not
It’s in the towing video. Posted on other channel.
Is the A.D.D really what broke OR was it something else since they are in good with Toyota? Notice how they do not go in depth about the problem.........hmmmmmmmmmm. My value of my 2023 Tacoma Sport is still going up even though they fixed it. My V6 will always have more value than that 4 banger.

Once again, the conventional wisdom of not buying the first years of a new model.
What about refreshed models? Like the 2024 f150?
As an owner of a kei truck, there was no reason to bomb it up the hill like that. However, still loved the fact that it shows how utilitarian they truly are, especially with the full size bed, larger than the tacomas.
