    If I remember correctly, French film maker Kendy Ty did a lot of his personal projects with just the Sigma 30mm f1.4 and an aps-c Canon DSLR. Through an excellent understanding of lighting, composition, colour grading and editing, he was able to make this seemingly low grade combination produce compelling short films, commercials and mini docs. He's gone on to shoot high end commercials with the Alexa Mini, but his ability to make superb quality projects with the Sigma 30mm was his foundation.

      I'd totally forgotten about Kendy Ty. You're completely right. I seem to remember seeing some footage he had shot on a train with the Sigma 30mm and being blown away by it. He was probably the inspiration for me buying the lens. Wish I'd remembered that, would have put it in the video for sure.

    Awesome video, I picked up the Sigma 24mm Art f1.4 for 475 pounds used, in pristine condition, with the box, accessories and purchase slip. It has incredible optical performance, just no weather sealing. I pair it with my pocket 4K and eos r for stills, it is an absolute favourite of mine.

    I like the Sigma 8-16mm. I don’t think it’s made anymore but such a gem especially since it’s not a fisheye lens and it’s insane that when paired with a focal reducer, it loses the variable stop and becomes a constant f4! Not the fastest lens, but that focal length is very welcomed.

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw

      Yeah, there's lots of great lenses that aren't made anymore, unfortunately.

    If the 24 is anything like it, which it probably is, I can see why you love it.
    I should probably start looking for one used in local shops.

    Hey i want to make big vloges and cinematic videos i am getting in love with the sirui 24mm and i am thinking which one should i buy sirui 24mm or sigma 8-16 mm which one should i get or any recommendation from you btw good video

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  Год назад

      Well, I can't really tell you which one to get. They are very different lenses. The Sirui is an anamorphic lens. I wouldn't think anamorphic lenses would be good for vlogging because they normally don't have a very good close focus. The Sigma 8-16mm is a very wide lenses with a variable aperture. So it would be better for vlogging but not very cinematic. When you say vlogs are you talking about holding the camera and filming yourself like Casey Neistat?

    Fantastic collection! Hey Chris, do you think the BMPCC 4k kitted up w/ all the bells and whistles is a better buy than the 6k pro ? I'm running a canon eos mk3 and am trying to decide which is a better 'B' cam?

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 года назад +1

      Tough question. Probably for me it would be. But I love the internal ND of the 6K pro. My dream camera would be a 4K Pro. And now you have the 6K gen 2 which only leaves the 6K Pro the advantage of internal NDs. 6K resolution has not been any real advantage to me but it's so subjective. I'd try and find some 4k and 6k footage to download and see which you prefer - then make your decision after that.

    • @Thedudemannn
      @Thedudemannn 2 года назад +1

      @@ChristopherMichaelLaw Great points. I think I prefer the older sensor on the 4k because I like the filmic look, but that 6k super sharpness reminds me of those big budget IMAX cameras with the massive sensors.

    Sir, thanks for posting great content! I’m curious about that sweet wooden side handle on your pocket cam 26 seconds into the video! 🙏🏾🙂

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 года назад +1

      It's a "Tilta Wooden Handle Grip with Record Start/Stop Remote Trigger". Unfortunately the start/stop doesn't work with Blackmagic cameras because they don't have an input for it, so i just use it because it's comfortable to hold. It does work with Sony/Red/Arri. This is the old style and is hard to get hold of now. The new one is www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1490071-REG/tilta_tt_0511_r_s4p_right_side_wooden_handle.html

    Thanks for the video, it is nice content :) I just bought the Tamron 17-50mm with VC but the VC is not working on my 6k Pro. When I switch the VC on there is no sound at all and no effect on the image. It is working on my other camera which is weird. What about you the Tamron and the 6k Pro ? Thanks by advance !

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 года назад

      Yes the 6K pro seems to be temperamental when I comes to image stabilisation in the lenses. I don't know if it's a software or hardware problem. I'll need to test more.

      I can't remember. I've had it for a few years. They don't make it any more. There's a newer version. The product code is TiLTA TT-0509-R if that helps. Maybe you can find it on ebay.

    do i need the Tamron 17-55mm for canon ( there is a version for sony and nikon aswell ) to use it with the pocket 4k ? and do i need any adapter to run it ? thanks for the video

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  Год назад

      You will need an adaptor for either the canon or nikon version. If the Sony version is for E-mount it wont fit, if it's for A-mount it might fit with an adaptor but I'm unsure if they exist. I would go with the canon EF mount one as it is more versatile than the others and will fit a number of cinema cameras natively and many more with an adaptor.

    Why no Zeiss lens? You can pick up a Contax Zeiss for a low price many places. I also use other brands but there is no lens I love more than my zeiss lenses. Even DDR made Jena Zeiss is really excellently made and in my view, far better than many current brand names. It’s always a matter of preference, but if you haven’t tried it, I strongly reccomend them. Of course the old lenses did not have IS but no cinematographer (I mean pro ones) never would use a telephoto or zoom without a sturdy tripod. So for me that discussion is dod. Tripods are great tools if you know how to use them, and with wide shots you can always get a fairly stable shot with gimbals etc. I have nothing against modern lenses, but the new Zeiss/Leitz lenses are too expensive for my use and thus the classic Zeiss lenses are a superb option.

    • @ChristopherMichaelLaw
      @ChristopherMichaelLaw  2 года назад

      Only because I don't have any Zeiss. I'm sure this list will change going forward. Also, I didn't want to get into lenses without the electronic communication with the camera, to keep the video simpler.

    • @Mr.Monta77
      @Mr.Monta77 2 года назад

      @@ChristopherMichaelLaw Right, I get that. Still, if image quality and cinematograpic look is a concern, the old zeiss lenses are really good. This is an excellent example of what I mean. ruclips.net/video/NnYZ7FRI0zo/видео.html Wish I had shot that 🙂
