sigma 18-35 and when i need some extra lenght i use window mode. Also, i just received the tokina 27 80 2.6-2.8 and used in a couple of gigs and match super cinematic with the black magic just awesome, hide gem if you can find the right one also calls the poor angeneux man
The Voigtlander 17.5mm f/0.95 for native MFT is a crazy fast, fully manual, de-clicked beast of a 35mm equivalent and I adore it. Feels really weighty and really respects the user
Great suggestions, got all of them as well for my 6k. Tokina is 11-20 in my case tho, but not much of a difference. Items to bring to an island: Either my Leatherman MUT or Nintendo Switch. Big tip for the Tokina: it's anything but island-proof. I did a close-up shot of an army tank driving in the sand (day-to-day stuff you know) and now there's more sand in my lens than in the Sahara.
I'll add the Tamron 45mm 1.8 VC. Gives a nice 85mm look with the crop. Great for people at gatherings. Tried the 28 to 135 canon EF but the 24 - 105 purrs on the BM 6k. Axe.
If I was stranded on an island, the only Item I would need would be a fully rigged BMPCC4k it would keeep me sane. Loved the video by the way. Great job!
I recently bought the Sigma 17-50 f2.8. it’s APSC lens and has IS. focus throw is very short but overall it’s basically like having a 24-70 f.8ish when used with speedbooster
Hey, what speedbooster did you use for this lens? I just bought the sigma 17-50 2.8 and mounted it with viltrox speedbooster 0.71x and I don't have any focus from 17mm - 35mm, everything that is 2-4 meters away from me is blurry, I can't get the "infinite" focus. Works normally on 35-50mm. I tried this lens on my old canon with EF mount and there it works great from 17 to 50mm and i Have focus at all range. Did you occur any of these problems with this lens?
I am planning to get a similar kit for the R as well, except that I might be sticking to the RF 24-105mm f/4 IS instead - unless I decide to go with the adapter with the ND filter built-in as well, in which case I might just get all three. It is quite annoying though, that for stills I would need a FF-only kit, an RF-EF Speed Booster would help out a lot with bringing the crop a lot closer.
OMG,I just upgraded from BMPCC 4K to 6K, and I have only 3 lens for 6K which is exactly what you are talking about. The only difference is that I have Canon 24-105 II. I really love Tokina 11-16, I usually use it when I need to put BMPCC 6K on Ronin S. Really cheap and nice lens for BMPCC 6K on a gimbal.
Greetings! I watched the video for the first time today and learn new things about Blackmagic Design Cameras and your personal choice of lenses! Thank you very much! Have a wonderfully blessed day!
Your footage clips are stunningly beautiful. The shots are flawless. I wish my D3300 and G85 can compare with this quality. Great locations. You are really good.
Hey Tyler could you do a similar video for the 1dx mark iii and c200? Also a video of what lenses you use in which scenarios (weddings, interviews, vs broll, vs event work etc...) Also do you have a kit.co page setup?
Great video, I have a couple of questions, I also have a 24-105 and BMPCC 4K with the Metabones xl 0.64 1. Do you have IRIS control, as I do not have IRIS control? 2. Do you have auto focus or is can you only use manual focus?
How is the Canon Ultrasonic 28-135mm lens? My work has one that I plan to utilize on the BMPCC4K, but I have to use an adapter until I can get a speedbooster.
W/ that adapter on there, and that Canon 24-105 on there...you said it becomes a 2.8, cool.. What sensor is in the camera, basically what does the lens convert to, on there...
All of the "speedboosters" essentially make the image circle of a given lens smaller. (Imagine the focus ring on a flashlight) As the image gets smaller, it gets brighter (same amount of light in a smaller space) so you get a boost in effective aperture. The only downside is that the new image circle has to physically cover the sensor, if you are using a ef lense with a big i.c. to cover a 35mm sensor, you can squish it down quite a bit onto what is essentially a mft sensor on the Blackmagic, but the new image circle won't cover the 35mm sensor anymore. (Fwiw, canon makes a sorta similar product, just backwards. The 1.4 and 2.0 telephoto extenders are basically the same thing, they just make the image circle larger instead of smaller. It makes the lense feel longer than it is, but it also makes the lense slower (darker) too, because bigger circle = less light.)
i was looking and looking and LOOKING for lenses for my bmpcc4k. like you i wanted ef lenses, not too expensive. i found my lenses in your video. Thank you SUBSCRIBE AND LIKE. please do more videos on BMPCC4K and 6K
Would you recommend the Sigma 18-35 1.8 for wildlife videography? (Specifically for shooting horses) Thank you for including clips with each lens used!
Great video, Tyler!! I am trying to balance Bmpcc 6K with Sigma 18-35 on my gimbal Weebill S but I always get micro jitters even after putting hours to learn how to balance it. I am not that experienced where I can pull it off without stabilization but now I am forced to use another lens for my gimbal, which is 90% of my shots. How is the experience with Ronin-S and this combo? It will probably become very heavy as well. Have you seen jitters and shakiness when you do moves with it?
@@henrygibson5697 I feel you! Been thinking about the Canon prime lens 35mm with IS. Do you know any other prime lenses that have a better image clarity? Will be nice if someone shares some light on this topic...

Hey Tyler, thanks for the vid man ! I just purchased the tokina and I'm absolutely disappointed by the minimum focus distance... Is this a lens only for landscape ? :/ Id like to have this wide angle feels with a subject that I close to me and not out of focus :( Any tips ? Thanks tyler, nice channel tho :))
Thanks you for this video ! I have a question : is canon EF-s fully compatibles with Bmpcc 6K (I just got one, and only have EF full frame optics). Thank you for your answer !
Hey! Love your vid bro, I really like this camera and want to get it. I want to shoot weddings and other videos would you say I should get it. The manual focus worries me . I would get a follow focus and learn that but if i wanted to zoom in our out i would have to rebalance my gimbal idk.
It all depends on your shooting style and experience. I would recommend renting the camera first to see if it would work for you. Only you will be able to determine if it will fit your workflow the best!
Did you rent the lenses and test them before you bought them, or were the buy-and-see-what-happens lenses? I am trying to find a strategy for settling on the lenses I want without buying 100 lenses first! Haha :)
Haha a lot of the lenses I have I was able to use before buying due to having lots of photog friends in my area. The 18-35 was buy and see what happens but that paid off haha!
Im using the Sigma 18-35 on my bmpcc 4k also. But I keep getting chromatic aberrations at the corner when shooting wide open at 18mm. Im using the metabones ef to bmpcc 4k version. Did you get CA at the corner at 18mm with this lens? Thanks!
Hey Tyler. Love the video. Im about to buy a bmpcc6kpro, and im gonna use a 70-200 2.8 on it. What sort of setup should I be going for if I want to be run and gun and getting stable shots? I'm considering going for an ibis system like the a7siii/s1h, but I just love the black magic color science and I gotta know if it will be stable enough with my 70-200 lens. Thanks so much
Supposed to get the pro tomorrow so in a similar boat. Please note that we Are dealing with a small sensor, so even though the focal range is always 70-200 on your lens, the field of view is 60% smaller, tighter, making your lens into a 110-330mm, quite telephoto. For a run and gun lens, the 16-35mm or similar with IS.
@@pkonttinen that one also uses the super35 crop sensor. The alternatives with full frame are the Sony A7s3, or the LUMIX S5, as a cheaper much worse AF, worse low light and IBIS option.
Hi ! I've the BMPCC 4k with the viltrox speedbooster and I have a problem with the Tokina: when I focus at infinity the real focus is actually at 1m, and for this reason this Lens Is unusable. Can you help me?
Had the same question - a friend answered. 'Maybe you're referring to calibrating the speedbooster for infinity focus. You do this by checking to see if your lens (or, ideally, 2 lenses - a wide-angle and a telephoto) can make it to infinity focus on the speedbooster. If they can't, you have to grab the edges of the optical element in the speedbooster and rotate it (clockwise, I believe). You give it a complete rotation or two and then look through your lenses again to see if you have infinity focus yet.'
