It just amazes me how intuitive the menus are compared to rest of the camera brands... They basically got the whole menu system on a home run rn 😭
totally agree
Eh there is less stuff there to put in though. They don't have any autofocus adjustments or photo menus like other manufactures because they don't have those features. The original 5d menu sucks objectively, but it was simple and easy to scroll through simply because there was no settings to adjust in the first place.
The better and more expensive the camera, the easier the menus. (typically). Arri cameras are SO easy to use. Not exactly fair haha
I know I’m late to this, but I think other brands have more options because there are more assist tools to get a good image. With these cameras, there’s a higher skill gap because you need to learn how to expose, manual focus, set WB, & how to balance the camera’s features w/ usability (battery life, storage, etc). Canon, Sony, & Panasonic make cameras that are more “dummy proof”, which is why they have so many settings. Arri’s are easy to navigate, but I’m sure it’s easier to get crappy footage as well if you don’t know what you’re doing. RED cameras actually have like 3 day training courses for learning how to properly operate them.
@@dominicgray2187 the reality is that japanese are terrible at software. It’s always been the case. Even if they didn’t have to put AF settings in there it would have been a mess anyway ahah
This video is 3 years old and still immensely useful, menus are now a little different but not by much. Thanks for the awesome video!!
Love the tutorial man! Took your advice and my bmpcc 6k arrives Thurs. This video just saved me a lot of time! The perks are 100% worth becoming a member of your page!

Does ur Luts work on LumaFusion iPad Pro?
A really useful, practical guide, thanks! I'm glad to find this sort of content and not just camera reviews.
This is what I’ve been waiting for. Great stuff.
Thanks for this Matteo! Especially about the white balance. I've been using the Polar Pro Basecamp and what I've learned is to definitely custom set the white balance with a white card. haha! Super important video for Pocket 4K and 6K shooters and just filmmakers overall! Take care, be safe.
Awesome video! Just ordered 2 Pocket 6Ks for an in house production setup, gonna start dialing in my settings and looks!
Thank you!! Always good to see a detailed setting breakdown 🙌🏼
it just amazes me how lovely and simple this tutorial it....
thank you so much i really love this tutorial...
Thanks! This video explains better than a lot of other videos, that don't show results while talking.
Love it. Thanks for the rundown, Matteo
This is an incredible walkthrough, bless you!
After watching this video, I just purchased your master collection of Luts! Keep up the great content!
🙏
OMG thanks for this video!! I've been using 2 BMPCC 6K's for about 9 months at my day job but need to try some of your suggestions (pixel remapping, and exporting presets).
Thank you. Simple. Informative and helpful. I love your Chanel and videos
The best and fastest BMPC setting video. Thanx.
This video is very well done! Thank you for making it!!!
Thank you Matteo just bought mine & wanted to see what the best settings would be, appreciate the breakdown
Great info and walk through. Thanks Matteo!
Such a great walkthrough!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
You’re the best Matteo thanks for all the valuable information
🔥🔥🔥 amazing information. perfect video.
Hi Matt! When shooting in extreme low light, such as early dawn or dusk, without lighting (documentary), what would you recommend for compression ratio on the BMPCC 6K? 5:1? Any other low light shooting tips you may have, from past experience, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for everything you do!
About iso,if you're using a base of 400 or anything below 1250 you can change it in resolve so it doesn't really matter what you choose ,you can decide later .
Thank you for this! Exactly the video I've been searching for... I'm about to buy the BMPCC6KP (my first proper "Cinema" camera.) Also, subscribed!
Thanks a lot! Learned a few new tricks
Thankyou sir ❤️ for making this video
SUPER HELPFUL, APPRECIATE IT AS ALWAYS.
In order to switch to 48p you could also hit the ‘HFR’ (high framerate) button on the back of the pocket :)
Right
No don't that interprets the footage
@@Loftikaz The "Off Speed Frame Rate" option Matteo mentions on the HUD does exactly that. It's the same as the "HFR"-button. It interprets the footage, so you have a slow-motion clip in your edition program right away. And you are right - in case you don't want interpreted footage, you'd have to go into the menu and change the project framerate.
I am a bit confused about what "interpret" means in this scenario.
Video and audio files have metadata that tells players how to play back the data. The players in their turn can choose to honor that or go by something chosen by users or programmers. But it will always have to "interpret" the metadata in some form. You can tell it that, yes it was shot at 48 fps but I want it played back in 24 fps. Or maybe, I know it was shot at 4 fps timelapse and I want to keep that rate for playback disregarding the project frameeate. Keeping the smears in realtime but accepting the choppiness. Or I do nothing to a 24 fps video and just let it play back at 24. They are all "interpreted" in some way.
I love your work and luts can you explain a little about the IR pollution on the BMPCC 6k please
Nisi cinema filters will take care of that
Helpful video! With the dual native ISO being 400 & 3200 - is there a case for trying to use one or the other? Also have you found any explanation as to why the BM cameras automatically add a tint when you select any of the WB presets or even white balance off a grey card? If for instance you white balance off a grey card and it applies a certain tint, should you still be reducing it back to 0?
this was sooo helpful.. thank you!
Thank you very much Matteo!
great review. question though, why do most people shoot at 23.98 instead of 24? I know about signals on analogue tubes and interlaced.. it makes technical sense for that, but not sure why we still do it. youre MUCH more of a pro than I am so im sure theres a reason. thanks much
Thanks for this video! I'm ordering my 6k pro next week. So I've had flicker from a strobe light in the past. To get rid of this I change the shutter angle. How will I know it doesnt show up play it back? Sorry for basic beginner question! Thanks so much
Thank you! Have you noticed that the white balance in the camera is a little lying in the direction of warm tones? At 5600 kelvin the lamp should be set to about 4900 kelvin in the camera
I've noticed that too, fortunately we can easily play with WB in post with braw :)
Thanks for making this video!
Are you ever on a shoot with wireless video monitoring/focus pulling? what transmitter would you recommend?
Great video! Much appreciated!
Thank you so much for this video
Hey Matteo, big fan of your work, constantly inspired! ( I'm right at the beginning of my experiences with cameras). I wondered if you had any recommendations for relatively fast vintage wide angle lenses for the camera? I already use vintage Nikon 50mm 1.4 and Nikon 28mm 2.8, but struggling to find a faster 28mm or anything below that focal length. The crop on the camera makes it a little difficult in tight spaces for me. I know you have the Leica 19mm, do you think you have to spend that kind of money to get the kind of thing I'm after?
I enjoy watching your video, question Does the black magic 4k has fstop apture ? not sure how to find it.
Great video! when I begin color grading in DaVinci, I noticed the terms "generation" followed by a 4 or 5. If I am shooting in RAW Constant Quality QO, Im aware of switching the clips to Black Raw but the generation stuff is confusing to me. Could you explain that to me? thanks man!
Really cool video and explanation. 1 thing I just can't figure out: how do you go to your latest clip in the viewfinder? When I press the play button on the back of the camera it will just show a random clip all the time, instead of the latest shooted clip. Any suggestions?
Hey Matteo, what do you think are needed accessories to be able to use the pocket cameras for filming yourself?
Also you can change iso settings in post if using raw and it works just like in camera so don't be afraid which one to select you always have the option to change later. (from the 2 levels)
I cannot go from 400 to 3200 in DaVinci. You need to pick one and then you can move from 100 to 1000 and then 1250 to 3200
@@matteobertoliwouldn’t native iso produce less noise? 400 less than 1000?
Thanks for the information.
Which SSD you are using and if I want to keep only one lens, which lens would you suggest.
Great, useful info, thank you
Would you ever do a video on how you set up your port keys monitor?
fantastic lesson...thank you
This was great. Thanks.
Would this be the same settings to match or pair with a 4k BMPCC?
Ciao Matteo, molto interessante. Grazie.
Hey Matteo, what do you think about the BMPCC6K? I shot several short films with the camera and I think it's performed very well.
Matteo what shock absorber are you using on top of your car rig? Couldn't find it in your list
I bring color charts and grey cards ti the shoot but never had chance to use them because in real life my shoots are stressful there's no time for that
great breakdown of a camera :)
Is Prores larger then raw? Whats the best settings for 4k?
About that audio tab... Say I use an on camera 3.5mm, RØDE mic (videomic pro for example). Should I set BOTH left and right channel to the Røde Mic?
Which codec or format provides the extreme quality ?
So happy to get this Video as a Buttery Client, thank you very much!!
here just 2 questions:
- why 23.98 and not 24fps
- have you tested contax zeiss lenses
in comparison to leica r?
Leica R are so rare and expensive zeiss is the only option left, zeiss are neutral colors leica are warmer more artistic, think of zeiss for documentary and R for films but with creative grading you can make zeiss look just as artistic
I have the BMPCC 4k; I'm assuming these sittings can be adapted for that camera as well? Thanks!
hi, at 7:33 does it happens randomly? During shooting it's all fine but when viewing in NLE the weird pixel colours appear and you can't do anything to fix the footage even if it's in BRAW? OMG that is very risky isn't it? So is it advisable to pixel remap before every shoot starts?
Would it be possible to get a video on fps for BMPCC ?
what about the IRIS? Thanks for the cool video!
Are these the same settings you use for your music videos?
I find myself shooting at 400 in-camera, but dropping it to 100 and highlight recovery in post; gives me the most DR.
Shooting at Native ISO means I'm seeing the correct exposure on set, dropping to ISO 100 opens up additional highlights that would be lost in iso 400, while also dropping down my noise floor.
How do you upload your video to RUclips without looking desaturated?
Update 7.9 bricked my BMPCC4K. any suggestions? Same problem with 6K
My blackmagic 6k stops recording 12 seconds recording..settings (Braw,50 fps,constant bitrate,3:1) using Samsung T5 2Tb ssd.please do reply..Thank you
Lower ISO better right? So use 100 or 200 in the studio? Why not go below 400 as you said?
Hi Matteo. Thank you for this insight. Can I ask why you don't use 24fps? or perhaps why do you use 23.98?;)
Me encantó, muchas gracias

Thanks Matteo.
Very helpful ✨🙏🏾
Great video! Could you maybe do a Davinci Resolve color management/exporting tutorial next? Having some real issues when exporting BMPCC4k footage with the colors coming out completely different(very harsh contrast, loss of color) than in the timeline when playbacking in quicktime, but looking correct in VLC. Hate sending footage to clients not knowing how it will look on their screens! Cheers!
That's a quicktime problem not camera related unfortunately, it automatically applies it's own colour profile so it can't really be helped as you'll never know what program your client is viewing on. VLC is most accurate though especially compared to web delivery like youtube.
The F1, F2, F3 buttons should be used for some things that are not directly accessible from the touch screen. Those settings surround the touch screen display, and are just one touch away. Other assets can populate the F buttons.
The F-buttons are so convenient. I have Luts and False colour set up. You can shoot way faster.
I thought that constant quality just maximizes the bitrate at all times? Either that or it adjusted bitrate, usually increases only to accomodate for complicated shots. Constant quality seems more lossless than constant bitrate. Right? I see a lot of different thoughts on this..
Could user settings for 4K
Question! What do your export settings look like with the Bmpcc4k/6k for youtube?
Your videos always look so good, I’ve yet to find a export process in davinci that sits well with me.
Echo…
Glad to see you're using 12:1 because I've been saying 12:1 is a solid choice.
what does 12:1 mean
@@blossommediastudios its a compression ratio in camera!
Hey Matteo! I was wondering what your solution is for the IR contamination problem with the BMPCC 6k? Is that a problem for you at all? I found this these filters from rawlite that replace the inbody filtration. Would you use an internal or external solution? Thank you!
I only use IRND filters ;)
Thanks man I learned so much from your videos! Why does the screen not show which Iris you´re at tough?
Thanks! Cause I use vintage lenses without any electronic ;)
@@matteobertoli Very nice! Thanks for your answer!
Do black magic pocket 6k have auto focus just like 5d mark4 while using a gimbal with a rokino lens ??
No
Excellent video. Question. At about 4 minutes 55 seconds - what is that back mount thing with the cable running to the camera? Thank you.
it’s an easyrig. I only answer for him because I really want one!
@@bubbleseroticaband8807 - Thank you. I just checked it out, wow.
Maybe I skipped it, but what do you record the footage into, into the external monitor, or a separate card altogether? I'm aware that you need powerful cards if you want record 6k though I'm trying to get the best bang for my buck, and I'm trying to figure which is the best recording method.
@02:21 you can see he's preselected external drive - he's probably hooked up to a samsung t5 or something equivalent.
Hi Matteo! I can see your lens information doesn’t shown on the screen means your lens doesn’t send information to the camera. Do you use any adapter on your lenses? Some simple adapters don’t show aperture information on them. Do you think if it is matter where adusting aperture without seeing right value? Thanks.
They are 1980’s vintage lenses and they are manual. The value is on the lens barrel
Hey Matteo! Thanks for the great video!
Why is your offspeed at 48 fps instead of 60fps? In which scenarios would one choose 48 fps? I'm genuinely curious.
Have a great day!
I can't speak for him but i'd say it's because he chooses to film in 23.9 so when he needs to use slow motion (at 48 which is double) it conforms the footage to use in a 23.9 timeline and avoids frame stuttering
Probably because at 48 fps you can still shoot using the full sensor. At 60 fps the camera crops
How much noise in the shadows do you get at ISO 1000? Is it at acceptable level?
Not much
Hey Matteo! Thanks for that video :) Whats the exact difference between 12:1 and 8 oder 5:1. Is the difference in noise or in detail sharpness? Thanks for the answer!
In my exp with bmpcc4k the compression affects noise in blacks a good bit, and a little detail is lost in fast moving shots with lots of elements like panning across trees and leaves and grass. But it’s so little compared to shooting in any other codec.
I think where it really comes into play is with green screen elements that need to be keyed out really well and using camera tracker software that needs to maintain focus on sharp points throughout the scene. Thats where i’d really want 5:1 or 3:1.
My favorite is 8:1. Best balance between quality and size. For clients i shoot 5:1. But a relatively short wedding can be 300+ GB from the one camera so it gets to be a lot. ✌️
@@baqcasanke Super interesting! Thanks for the long answer, Baqca 🙏
thanks!
When using ISO 800 and up, do you find yourself using noise reduction in post or do you think it looks fine?
Never used it
Is there a way to toggle from 6k 24fps to 2.8k 120fps without having to change 3/4 settings?
just create a preset with the settings u want. save them in preset tab and switch from preset tab.and call it "SLOW MOT 120fps"
13:20 it would be super useful if somehow you could insert those info/metadata remotely from an ipad or through the atem control software
It is possible to add the information via bluetooth (phone/tablet) ;)
Great video! I have a question for everyone.. I imagine most people use SSDs to film in high res, my question is: Do you transfer the files to another hard drive and then edit? or do you guys edit using the same SSD? The thing is I imagine you would have to format the SSD before every shoot. Thanks!
I've invested in CF Express. card - waaaaaaaaay more convenient than the SSD. I use the SSD as virtual memory. The CF card is expensive but a game changer
Do you ever shoot in 12:1 or do you stick to something higher like 3:1 or 5:1?
Yeah plenty of times
