Audio volume warning: gets louder (back to normal at) 16:16 Ahh this arc. It's wild that the pkmn company let the plot be so original, even involving character death that doesn't get un-celebi'd (would love to have known kusaka's reaction at the oras announcement knowing they killed off the team leaders). Also love that they give guile a surskit it is so funny to see this evil little guy. This freedom provides for such an epic conclusion 🔥 Thanks for the summary. It's been years since I read emerald and it's nice to listen to this + the other summaries during walks
This chapter felt like the avengers of the adventure manga. everyone came together, an old enemy returns with more power, a mysterious benefactor is in the shadows, and all the heroes fight together in the end.
Kinda like what Paul would later be for the anime, what makes Emerald a fascinating character to me is that he’s basically Adventures’ portrayal of a competitive Pokémon player, but in a more nuanced light. There’s obviously his superb battle tactics and understanding of Pokémon’s strengths and weaknesses, but that dispassionate analysis of his team makes him disregard their feelings sometimes. Em’s far from an abusive Trainer, but when he befriends Sceptile, Sudowoodo, and Dusclops and sees an opponent he thinks they can’t beat, he has no problem benching them for Crystal’s Pokémon despite their hurt feelings. When that boy faced Ruby and heard him say that he believed in Feefee, he literally gagged from hearing him say it with a straight face. Hell, even with his perfect commands and Sceptile’s type advantage, he only managed to win because he finally encouraged his Pokémon too. There’s so much more I could go into with this arc, but you’ve basically done it all for me already.
Nice video once more, VeeVolt! Don't worry about the audio issue, too. It happens, especially since this video has a lot. Overall, the Emerald arc is awesome. It does well explaining the Battle Frontier facilites, introducing Emerald, and wrapping up the long form story told through the first 3 generations of Pokemon. I think this was actually the first arc I kinda got to experience from start to finish as it was published in CoroCoro and later in volume form. The amount of waiting an anxiety for the next chapter was certainly something. I know Emerald as a dex holder is pretty divisive, especially when a good amount of that hate is from people liking Wally more, but I think he's a great character. Personality non-withstanding, he has good instincts when it comes to battling. He may not have had a consistent team up until the last half of this arc, but I think that goes to show how well he can work with Pokemon he barely knows. He can come up with interesting strategies, and even when they don't go exactly as planned, he doesn't mind being put on the spot as long as he can come up with something to turn the tide of battles. It's probably why challenges, such as those in the Battle Frontier, appeal to him more than regular battles: He revels in fighting and winning battles with peculiar rules and restrictions surrounding them with ease, just like solving a puzzle. He really is a competitive Pokemon battler at heart. I can see how he would be able to beat Red, the literal Battler, in those conditions. I know people love arguing over this, or say that he only won because Red was a statue for many months, but I do think that he is the better battler over Red when it comes to battles in specific conditions and limitations. Otherwise, I don't think he'd be able to beat Red in a normal battle easily, but I think he can come pretty close. I wonder if he actually faced off with Red at the end of the Battle Dome Tournament...I'll probably go watch your other video about the tournament after this. His ability to calm Pokemon down by using soil from their birthplaces-- as well as his other ability of knowing where a Pokemon is from just by looking at them, is cool, too. It's kinda sad knowing that he has this ability because he was alone for so long, but I think it's also a reflection of how much he loves Pokemon even when he tries to deny it. As for his personality, yeah I won't lie, it is pretty hard to like him, so I can understand why so many people would have rather had Wally. However, I think having someone like him as a protagonist is still good, since we do get to see him go from a ill-mannered brat with no desire to connect to others, to someone who re-learns to open up to people, and gains so many friends very quickly. Taking into account his backstory, it makes sense that he would act the way he did at the start. When even his own family mistreated him for something out of his control, without any regard to his feelings, of course he'd build emotional walls around himself so that he wouldn't feel bad anymore. I'm glad he had people like the Trick Master and Crystal looking out for him after what he went through. It's even more heartwarming seeing that he can open up to Pokemon again by the end of the arc, since Pokemon by their nature seek out humans, and it's clear that many Pokemon want to befriend Emerald. I mean, he befriended Latios and Latias easily, and they're known for hiding out on Southern Island most of the time. He must have left a good impression on them if they trust him so much. A bit of a side note, but I do love how much Yamamoto seems to like Latias' human form, given that she appears frequently in the author's notes section up to a point. He is able to reform emotional connections with Pokemon again, and I'm sure he's all the more happier because of that. It was also nice to see that he isn't a weird brat all the time; only to people who either misjudge him quickly or that he finds annoying. I'm glad that by the end of this arc, he feels more comfortable with his natural appearance. He really does look pretty good without all his gadgets, despite how cool they were. It's a nice sign of his (figurative) growth that he can feel safe around other people again. I know some people have headcanons of Emerald growing much taller once he's older, but I think he would still be small. That isn't a bad thing. I'm glad people have come around to him over the years. Also, seeing him in the ORAS arc later makes me realize just how intuitive and smart he can be, though then again, basically everyone in that arc was being an idiot. He's probably the smartest person in that entire arc, but I'll save that for the ORAS video sometime down the line. Guile Hideout/Archie (again) was a great villain for this arc, and the creative liberties Kusaka and Yamamoto took for this story was interesting. Like, how did they come up with this kind of story based around a small section of new content added to the third updated version of the Hoenn based games? Granted, I know leaving off on the cliffhanger ending in FRLG helped a lot with connecting so many things together, but I think the payoff was magnificent. Back to Guile, his reveal was probably something not a lot of people expected, since not many people survive being electrocuted in a car, but as we'll see in later arcs, people in Pokemon tend to be a lot hardier (for better or worse.) The reveal of Sird's involvement in this story was also something not many people saw coming, and funnily enough, this is only the second most surprising Sird appearance (for now.) It does feel bittersweet, knowing that this is probably going to be the only time all dex holders (up til this arc) will ever be together in one place, given just how many games and arcs have come out since then. Not to mention that the timeline of events in Pokemon Adventures are a bit weird. Up until this point, the timeline was fairly linear, but after the Emerald arc, the timeline of subsequent arcs changes in a way that makes it hard to pin down. Maybe one day, it can happen, but I feel like the authors (and potentially the publishers at CoroCoro) are reluctant to do reunions like this again, since that would mean that most of the trainers from before gen 3 would likely be in their 20's or early 30's if we see them with the dex holders from the newer arcs. I wouldn't mind seeing that at all, but it may not be something they're willing to do quite yet. Great arc. Great Story. And a wonderful character in Emerald. Also. Emerald >> Wally. There I said it.
I was excited for this part because Pokemon Emerald was the reason I loved this series, I'll admit that Rayquaza not appearing was a bit disappointing, though. I also miss the way the heroes' Pokemon appear, where they were together at the beginning and grew stronger as the story progressed. Now the team is completed quickly without us seeing their path of development. But I really enjoy the story and I'm excited for the next part.
Love how you used the Battle Frontier anime cover music, remembered hearing it the first time from the Japanese Pokemon movie: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew.
Dex holders...assemble!!!! Awww man I love your videos so much!! It's been a LOOOOONG LOONG time since I've first read Pokemon Adventures and at the time my english was poop, so I vould barely understand the context of things...I wanted to resume my reading from where I dropped (D/P/PL arcs) cuz I didn't want to read it all over again xD (I admit my lazyness) but I also wanted to have a deeper context of the ones I've read so long ago❤❤❤❤❤❤ thank you very much!!!
Silver just can't catch a break. Kidnapped, nearly died multiple times, can't have his dream of a warm home with happy people and pokemon because his dad is a mob boss, and he can’t even reunite properly without being turned to stone. If that's not enough, he was conscious throughout the whole petrification. Unable to move, unable to speak. I mean, yeah, that's how he was able to teach Feraligatr, but it sounds like an absolute nightmare. I really hope he took some time to rest after this arc. Though, future chapters imply he's been sleeping on leaves, so who knows how restful that actually is.
I feel like Sinnoh was supposed to connect back but as Kusaka was placed under more and more pressure to keep up with the games release he had to scrap his plans
its cool when the manga gets to create new character design, the regular characters are more or less their own people, but they dont get to make new designs often
Man I’ve been LOVING these compilations. My kid is ten now. He’s into Pokémon. I want to share the Pokémon Adventures experience with him. But it’s so hard to find the mangas. Any advice on the best way to find the box sets?
I wish I can play Pokemon fire red again and relive all those fun times with it I wish I could have had also gotten Pokemon emerald as well along with Ruby my love for Pokemon will never die it's incredible in a world this big I love this manga and everything about it I also love watching Digimon but Pokemon I love it even more I wish I can watch them both all over again including playing the video game of Pokemon 😉👍
i know its unrealistic, but i really wish they did more "final battles" where more pokedex holders appear. Especially with how extreme some final duels are in the manga, I find it odd that other dex holders rarely ever get involved.
Love the intro hate the anime like spoilers in it I haven’t read emeralds story in years and it was a lil sad to be “spoiled by the intro” that being said I’m one guy on the internet, so keep up the good work. ❤
Wow, if i have to folloew a brat like Emerald i drop it, but win me over , but wow Larias as a human ditn expect that ? You cooked with that analysis
and everyone hates him because he's a competitive player (and a kid acting like a kid)
@@kyouksterm208 Everyone hate sweat people. Why must they be over competitive in a kid's game
any game that gives competitive options reaches that point,
2:41 made me laugh for no reason
