I hope you enjoyed this horror movie video.
If you have any suggestions for future film reviews leave them in the comments. Развлечения
i feel like the biggest problem with this movie for me was just a lot of buildup and next to no payoff, the end twist you could probably guess the ending around the middle point tbh
To which twist are you referring? There didn't really seem to be a twist to me, but just a natural progression of the story you would expect.
Trekkie Junk Exactly
@@trekkiejunk I would agree. Not every film has a "twist". This one just flows all the way through to the end. The entire journey of it including the end is all part of the experience.
this movie is a metaphor for life. And it plays out just like life... unfortunately there might not be a payoff to this thing 🤷
Spoiler below:
I love this film. The cuckoo metaphor is brilliant. And that foreshadowing that shows Eisenberg burying those two birds that dropped down from tree (actually they were pushed by the cuckoo) is amazing. Those two birds represent Eisenberg and his wife, and the cuckoo that pushed them from the tree is the strange man that bury them in the end. I love that! Now I need to see the first film of Finnegan.
Ditto 💯🔥💯
I've been on a horror binge lately. I watched Swallow, The Platform, Sweetheart, and Harpoon (all because of your recommendations) and enjoyed all of them! I also recently rewatched Unfriended and The Ring and they are both just as good as I remember. I just finished Vivarium and I freaking loved it. One of the best films I've seen in a while (although I wish the ending wasn't as bleak). Thank you for your awesome movie suggestions!
I figured I could suggest a movie in return. It's called "Night Moves" and it stars Dakota Fanning and Jesse Eisenberg. It's a slow-burn environmental thriller and I enjoyed it!
Always interesting how other people Interpret movies.
Very much so, that's why I love reading your comments!
Just watched this a few nights ago! What a crazy ride. Can’t say it was an enjoyable watch while viewing BUT I’m glad I watched it and think it’s one that will stick with me for a long time. Haven’t stopped thinking about it since I watched it.
Yeah I know what you mean!
Persephone’s Pomegranate all it’s done is made me so mad. How can the first two thirds be that good then the end be that bad.
Adam Lennard I know what you mean, it’s a very frustrating film on several levels! It’s one of those - I didn’t enjoy it per se but I also can’t say it’s a bad film. It’s just an odd experience haha
Vivarium seemed to miss the mark: it is a film about the existential horror of suburban living, when this kind of lifestyle is increasing unattainable. If the film was made 30-50 years ago, I think it would have had a better reception. Good review though!
Finally watched Vivarium last night on your recommendation and absolutely loved it. My favorite I've seen in quite a while. I don't get all the negative reviews. The ending was perfect. Thanks for another great recommendation.
Pete Crane why was it perfect? We have no idea why we should of just watched the film. What was Martin? Why did he do it? If the film can’t be bothered to explain anything then it just ruins it. Fair play if you liked it but honestly I was angry after watching it I was enjoying it so much then it was just like someone shat in my face.
Adam Lennard The development is the breeding ground for the next agent who must recruit a new foster family each time. And the cycle repeats. It's beautiful. The questions of why and what don't matter. It simply is what it is. It's genius
@@adamlennard1828 Not only that - but Martin is solely grown just to go work at the real estate office to lure another couple to the neighborhood?!! Okay. That's it. He serves no other greater, larger purpose? These beings exist to be fake real estate agents??! I would have liked to know there was a larger community of beings living a "life" so there would be a point to the "Martin" character, but there was no point. I don't know. It didn't finish strong to me at all.
looks great!! thank you for keepin us company during quarantine emma🌻
This channel is a gem. Thank you for the great work!
Another great video! Can’t wait to watch this one. Thank you for all you do! Please stay safe!👍❤️
YOU ARE AWESOME. Great thorough review without spoilers!
Thank you!
THANK YOU EMMA for some distraction in these weird times! Stay safe =)
I try :)
I like the perspective of the review, well thought out and comprehensive.
This is the type of horror movie I really love. I can't wait to see this now. Thanks for letting people know about it Emma!
Thanks for watching Anthony!
:)
Nice! I was wondering if you were going to review this, Really dark and bizarre and that kid could be a new horror icon! And good to see Imogen Poots bounce back after Black Christmas and use her English accent
I agree!
I absolutely loved this moving beginning to end. The bleak and unsatisfying end was necessary and done on purpose I believe because that’s how society pressures people to live their lives.
I have not heard of this film, it looks good, I’ll have to watch it. Thanks for the review Emma, I hope you’re staying safe in what is now a very strange world.
I was looking for something to watch tonight and this looks intriguing. Definitely gunna have to watch this now.
This film just made me feel uneasy the whole way through.
I saw you watched this on Letterboxd! I was so hoping for a review :) thanks for the recommendation!
Thanks for watching!
Loved this (G)emma! Great recommendation. This ascends to Dogtooth heights.
'Vivarium' sounds fascinating! Thank you for the review - as always I can trust your filmic instincts with confidence.
thanks Shamble!
Big fan of Imogen Poots and this sounds interesting. Definitely wanna check it out. Great review as always! Hope you're doing well.
Thanks Chase!
Oh, my...this WAS a strange film! But I really liked it.
This is the kind of movie you can spend a lot of time peeling back the onion layers of what's really going on. What is the reality? Good stuff - thanks again for the recommendation!
Thanks for the review, Emma. I saw the trailer for this film a while back and I thought this will be visually unnerving. I'll put it on my to see list.
Hope you enjoy!
Haven't seen this film yet, and only 2 minutes into your review, but I had to pause for a minute to mention how much déjà vu this gave me. Took me a moment to place it, but just realized that the setting, description, and clips you've included from the film at the beginning of this video is giving me strong vibes of the season 5x17 episode of "Angel: The Series", titled: "Underneath". Angel, Spike and Gunn go to find and rescue Lindsey, who has been imprisoned in a suburban hell dimension by the Senior Partners. Anyways, I have no idea if the storyline of this film is in any way similar to the premise of that episode, beyond what you show and mention in the first 2 minutes here, but either way, it looks, so far, like something I would enjoy.
I think about this film everytime i go into a gated neighboorhood
I absolutely loved this film, it's exactly my type. I love the art design, the acting, the strangeness and uneasiness. I love fantastic films and being taken on a ride :) (juste like with Mother!)
Dark Surreal Horror? Count me in! Thanks for the review!
You have a good way of talking about films without giving too much away. For me personally this film was hard to watch because once I knew (roughly) where it was going, it became kind of tedious. Some things that happened felt kind of random and did not lead anywhere, at least that is how I feel about it.
I havent heard of this, but it sounds so interesting! Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching Lea!
I really liked this movie!! I completely agree on the unfair duties we have to do in life, like the last song states “It’s a complicated game”
This sounds right up my pale green street!!
Very much looking forwards to this showing on Shudder UK 27/8!
I watched it last. I really enjoyed it. I was nervous because so many reviews said it was too weird. I watched it because Emma never steers me wrong.
Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain has a lot of red and green. But A VERY DIFFERENT FEEL.
Videos everyday! Yay!
a bonus one this week :D
I can't wait! Looks good! Without Name, too!
Hope you enjoy it!
Keeps digging to the bottom... love it!
yeah dropped that one in there to see who would notice haha
I never heard of this ooooooo thank you!
thanks for watching!
It seems like it’s trying to be symmetrical, but with slights bends and angles. Definitely get that feel of something being off
reviewing LITTLE MONSTERS (Abe Forsythe
) is necessary for this time
How about 'The Girl With All the Gifts'? The book and movie are very different from eachother in terms of casting, but each brings something special to the table.
I recomend you the channel zero tv series from syfy. Very nice horror antology.
Good review btw
Thanks Ive seen half of the first season.
Enjoyed this one. Total original, a little slow in places, but worth seeing.
I enjoyed this movie a lot.
SPOILER:
I wonder, if the boy would have turned out to be different, if he would have received love. Yes, they were forced to raise him an he acts like some kind of robot sometimes. But he came as an innocent baby without the choice of wanting to be there or wanting to be raised by them. He shouldn't have been the one to be punished. But what do I know. Maybe he would have been a monster anyways ...
In general I like the metaphors here:
• he gets stuck at work everyday, barely seeing his "family"
• she is left alone with the kid and the house to look after
• the kid grows up with lack of emotion and empathy due to unloving "parents" and no social life
• the work overtime makes him sick, but he keeps going, avoiding his "family"
• he becomes the abusive "father" and changed husband
• he is literally digging his own grave!
• kid grows up with no social attachment and no love for his "parents"
• the kid doesn't care about his "parents" dying
• the kid all being grown up leaves "home" and takes on a life dominated by work
Time to pay a visit to Amazon streaming. This one sounds good. Thanks!
I hope you enjoy it Jasper!
Woot I was waiting for this! This film was such a wild ride. I agree not scary but very unnerving and depressing! I enjoyed it very much
Glad you liked it!
This was a very interesting movie, pulled together by the two main characters as they get pulled into their suburban nightmare and everything just gets more uneasy as it goes on with the introduction of the child they are forced to care for. definitely a movie that everyone should watch but feels like a movie that doesn't leave up to repeat viewing. A movie where the journey outshines the actual movie
I hadn't even heard of this one, I can't wait to see it!!!
I hope you like it Kylie!
Kylie Roseanne do yourself a favour stop watching after about 70 minutes.
I will check it out and Without Name also TY Emma take care.
Enjoy!
tripppyyyy movie!
messed me up for sure, a wild ride with no possible good ending.... I liked it.
i love this film, and i felt the same way when i watch Midsommar.
I love red and green...I wuvs Christmas to!!!
The added element drove me crazy
My wife and I saw this and I liked it a lot. She wasn't so impressed but I think it is one of those movies that isn't for everyone.
just got this !!....will see it this week !!!......looks cool !!!!!
Yay enjoy!
Dude , your videos are the best girl!!! What is your favorite zombie movie ? Appreciate it !!! 😉
dead alive it it counts?!
Liked Vivarium very much! :-)
Is there a way for me to watch this in Australia?
Foxes!! I knew this looked familiar!!
Great review very intelligible and insightful. I went into this blind...I don't watch trailers as a rule....NEVER...just like when I buy a book I read the synopsis and consider the author etc before deciding if I will read it. Same goes for s film I check it out on IMDb (no trailer). WOW all I can say is I was pleasantly surprised and loved it despite its horrible ending 💔 broke my heart. Reminds me of the 2008 British film EDEN LAKE one of Michael Fassbenders early films. OMG highly recommend but it will devastate you so get ready! I don't want to spoil Vivarium for anyone so go watch it....it's not what you think initially and will captivate you right til the end!
Ger Bear How can people like the end? I don’t mind bleak endings or ambiguous endings but this was just lazy. We have no idea what the villains motives were or what he was. So why should I care if the movie can’t give me the basic tools I need to invest fully.
@@adamlennard1828 I agree but that's just the way it is with some films. I've seen many films that I really liked but the ending pissed off for one reason or another! This is simply one of those films that I think the writer/director left it open to the audience's interpretation?... I understand the whole Vivarium concept and the alien abduction/experimental theory....but there is no clear objective outlined because this appears to be happening to other humans again and again in this alternate reality dimension....is it on earth... Is it on their ship....is it in another galaxy......who knows? It would drive you crazy pondering it!
Something about it made me think of Dark City (1998). Both movies I really like.
I dont know if ive seen that!
just seen - Vivarium,Underwater and Blow The Man Down.....all 3 were great !!!
I like green! It was a natural hue. I could live there!
no no no you wouldn't it was so unnerving and unsettling the whole time. Even though it seemed quite peaceful it was an empty purgatory watching it. It was amazingly bleak and has stuck with me for a month since I watched it.
Sounds interesting, im gonna check out
Enjoy!
ill need to look into this one, i wouldn't mind checking it out as i love Imogen poots i dont think it has a proper release here yet. hopefully soon though
fingers crossed! Check itunes too!
Hi Emma. Good to see ur review. I just wanna know if this film is like 2017's Mother coz it wud then be a caution for me. Lol
I mention that in the review?
Well anyways I watched the film and having seen that I think it's a clever commentary on parenting and harm inflicted upon nature. It was average really.
I watched it last night and I really enjoyed it!
Oh I'm so glad!
I think I love this movie.
It was very twilight zoneish but an unsatisfying ending and a slow burn not in a good way.
I loved this movie.. Something different
I was totally into this movie. What a ride.
yay!
i think you should check out ‘enter the void’ it’s from the same director as ‘climax’ which doesn’t need an explanation on how amazing it is
Oh I’ve seen it ;)
❤❤❤❤❤
I think Imogen Poots and Jessie Eisenberg killed it in their roles. I like how they made the kid’s voice so creepy!
I was supposed to watch this movie at the Off Screen festival in Brussels. It got cancelled of course but I have no idea where to watch it online!
Diana Hîncu MyFlixer.com
Leslie Prado Thank you!
looking forward to seeing it.
think of a fish in a tank when you watch this movie.. hella messed me up still to this day
You guys might get a kick at reading the interview I had with the screenwriter of Vivarium. Take this time to check it out at Novelpro Junkie: novelpro.weebly.com/latest-news/interview-with-garret-shanley-screenwriter-of-vivarium Thank you for doing so.
Its was like sex without climaxing. Good during the act, but it didn't finish strong. Very disappointing ending
Exactly I didn't care for it
movie was gooooood
It makes me wonder if there's people unknowingly raising alien baby's and they go off into the world interacting with the rest of us and we're just blind to it cause they blend in so well but not quite. Honestly it has me thinking alot ngl its unnerving af if reality isn't what we think it really is.
It’s more about parasites trying to survive, like the cuckoo reference there aliens trying to imitate. It’s a view on suburban living but both character show there distain for this from the get go there pressured into this trap and show vivarium literally mean a trap to observe behaviour
I did like it to some extent but I think it would have worked better if they figured out a way to beat it. In the beginning when they didn’t encounter any other people and when they couldn’t find their way out of the town I thought, “this is a hopeless situation” and i was right. Even in the best movies of any kind, even in horror, the protagonist triumph somehow at the end. The exorcist, sixth sense, the conjuring, get out. That’s just my opinion. I didn’t love the main characters but I liked them a little. Wished they were clever enough to beat the nightmare. An unsolvable puzzle or an un-winnable game is no fun really.
This film was really underwhelming. I found it incredibly frustrating that the 2 main characters are experiencing something super dooper weird yet are not rapidly talking to each other about what the hell is going on or what they are feeling or what they should do. It was very unrealistic in that way which was disappointing. The lack of realistic dialogue was annoying. They just stared into the distance a lot. Stupid.
So the couple lives... inside number 9? ;)
NUMBER 9!
I liked it it isn't scary but uneasy about time someone did a film like they used too gets u thinking plus it has some wierd humour in it
Aspects of Twilight Zone S01-E25, The Truman Show, Matrix &, The Box rolled into one
Freaking insane this movie came out the year before Covid locked us all in out houses for half a year... goddamn, (^◡^")
the idea of this film reminds me so much of mother! , which makes me really want to see it. US viewers - does anyone know where to watch this?
I just watched it on putlocker putlocker9.ru/film/vivarium-2019-1080p/watching.html?episode_id=134987&s=hserver is the link
About 10 minutes into this film, it seemed that the whole thing was going to be an allegory for getting married and having kids. By the end of it, i felt i was right. Leaving your enjoyable life for the mundane of suburbia and being "responsible." Your kids are ungrateful, and are just there for you to raise them, then get out of their way. Once kids are grown, your purpose is over, and you're dead. The movie even says that directly.
Oh yeah I think I saw this advertised for some some film festival had no idea it was horror.
Hope you get to see it soon!
Have you done a review of the outsider yet?
I'm not going to review it, but talk about my thoughts briefly in an upcoming monthly wrap up!
I really enjoy3d it. I was very uncomfortable throughout. I liked it.
Have you watched “In the Mouth of Madness”. I’d love to hear your review on this John Carpenter film with a Lovecraft feel to it...
sqQi i
This movie feels really lynchian. I bet Inland Empire was an inspiration for it.
i found imogen poots was amazing, i also liked the kid, i didn't like jesse eisenbergs performance though... overall it is a great concept even though i found it too sobby and depressing at times, but it's still a very good movie...
@The ManHammerAR15 lmao!
haha!
Who watches every suggested movie from Emma just because she's cute?
Nah, I just watch them because she and I have a similar taste in movies. So I kinda trust her by this point.
PD: Your comment sounded juuuuust a tad bit pervy >.
I love her suggestions too.
Thanks Esteb
I really wish I liked this movie, but sadly I couldn’t get into it
Aw sorry to hear that!
