Thirteen Ghosts gets such a bad wrap but it's honestly one of my favourite horror movies of all time! The glass house with shifting walls containing all these different ghosts is such a creative original idea. Plus Matthew Lillard's performance in it is so underrated with how layered it is.

You had me at Tusk. When Kevin Smith finally decides to hang up his Director’s hat (he’s been hinting about for like ten years) and people are assessing his career there will be a lot more hits than misses. He is wildly under appreciated, particularly amongst his contemporaries of that era. Among the films that will be reevaluated will be Tusk. It’s such a grotesque, yet utterly compelling story. Freeway 2 with Natasha Lyonne and Vincent Gallo is one of my problematic faves. It’s so low budget, vulgar and campy but it’s sooo fun! And I just found it in Tubi!!! Funny to me that you're wearing a Godzilla shirt for this video, because today I bought the Shōwa Era Blu-ray collection. Guilty pleasures abound in that timeline! Tusk is a damn good one, apart from Johnny Depp's accent. The exchanges between Justin Long and Michael Parks, and the fact that it was inspired by a real wanted ad (which is a hilarious read) makes it worth checking out. I really wanted to like The Lords of Salem, and I agree that Sherri Moon is fantastic, but the direction lost me by the third act. Plus there were apparently important scenes cut that haven't been released. At least the cinematography was brilliant.
With you on Blair Witch II. I'm old enough to have seen it as a new movie at the cinema and enjoyed it as a creepy supernatural story. Appreciate these videos that bring out the diversity of tastes. I'm always more inclined to hear about why people like something I don't; sometimes that makes me go back and sometimes that is mind-changing. One hill I'll die on is the movie Satanic which has a goofy title and even cheesier promo art. It's an effective supernatural story about true-life horror tourists. I know people have rejected it on the cover art alone but they're missing out (I swear :)
Blair Witch II was the first movie that came to my mind upon seeing the title of this video. It was always my “to go” example for hated movies that I love. Recently I re-watched it, after like 10 years, and I was expecting to “finally” hate it, like “I bet now, with distance and no longer a teenager easily fooled by pretty cool girls, I will get why it’s so bad”. Nope. Still had a really great time! The only explanation I have for this movie low status is that, AS A SEQUEL to Blair Witch (which I do love as well), it’s really off-putting and guaranteed to frustrate (rightly so, to be fair) anyone expecting a traditional sequel. Still, I can’t help to see it as a great spin-off of sorts. I wish there were 5 more experimental Blair Witch movies, as different from BW2 as BW2 is different from the original. Like a crazy antology.
I work at a library and one of our patrons requested the Communion book recently through our interlibrary loan system and I was so intrigued when it came in. I definitely need to watch the movie and read the book too!
Keanu Reeves screaming about free pizza and accidentally liking the picture on Facebook at the end of Knock Knock are some of some of the best performances of his career.
In regards to Dreamcatcher it's important to keep in mind that Stephen King wrote it while under the influence of Oxycodone and by longhand because his injury made it painful to type at his desk, so the fact that the story is fairly coherent is very much a miracle when you stop to think about it. King has said that he isn't particularly fond of Dreamcatcher, both the book and film, and honestly I would be down for a revised version. Also, I highly recommend that everyone here go check out Ryan Hollinger's in depth video on the film.
Wasnt there one book he wrote and remembers nothing about it? I think it was Cujo. Had a thinner story indeed but lost nothing of the intensity regardless.
@@bo2720 The following comes from The Great Stephen King Reread: Cujo In King’s On Writing he immortalizes Cujo with, “At the end of my adventures I was drinking a case of sixteen-ounce tallboys a night, and there’s one novel, Cujo, that I barely remember writing at all…I like that book. I wish I could remember enjoying the good parts as I put them down on the page.” For those who are counting, that’s three gallons of beer a day. What writers drink is often more famous than what they write and this comment has overshadowed Cujo’s virtues, probably forever, which is too bad.
@@sebastianevangelista4921 I dont think it overshadows his work at all, most horror lovers and big movie people know the book and/or the movie. The fact he was wasted beyond his mind and still got published and there was a film made is more of a true testament to his work and mind. I dont know anyone who can drink like that or use drugs and sit on a typewriter and just write a book. I think the rabies Cujo got was probably a metaphor for addiction taking him over.
dreamcatcher is a fantastic novel, bit overwritten in parts. but it should be more beloved than it is. it might be a classic. i know why it's not: shit weasals and all the farting.
if nothing more, i def stand with you on Lords of Salem. i legit didn't even think RZ directed it! it felt more meditative, letting the narrative take its time, SOLID camera work - probably his best EVER - and it just doesn't get the respect it, and Zombie, deserves.
I absolutely LOVE Book of Shadows, my friends and I as teens became really obsessed with the 'secrets of esrever' determined to find the hidden message and the easter eggs. Watched it again recently and those bits seem to be gone from it but I still loved the film!
Yes! Do the flipside! (I clicked on the video knowing the first and last movies would be on the list lol) The movies that I like that I'm seeing have 5.5 or less on IMDB are Halloween Kills - 5.5 (I liked it just as much as the first one and the original, not sorry, evil dies tonight and all!); Lucky - 5.0 (can't believe this is so low, seriously); Kill theory - 5.3 (this was just fun, come on); Feedback - 5.5; The houses October built - 5.2 (can't believe this one is so low either); Blair witch 2016 - 5.0 (I really enjoyed this one!); Piercing - 5.5. All of these I rated 8/10, except Halloween Kills, which I rated 9/10. And if I go into my 7/10s: Nightmare on Elm St 2 (5.4), My Bloody Valentine 2009 (5.4), Silent night 2012 (5.2), Dashcam (4.6), The feast (5.5), False positive (4.7), 12 hour shift (5.5), Lake Bodom (5.2), The dead don't die (5.5), Slaxx (5.4), Emelie (5.4), Sorority row 2009 (5.1 - CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED), The new mutants (5.3), Kadaver (5.2). Wow, I went long on that, didn't I
I love House of Wax!!! I few of mine under 5.5 are Urban Legends: Final Cut, Jennifer’s body and A nightmare on elm street (2010) yes, I love the remake ❤
The Blair witch 2 is like that for me too. I never have understood how people didn’t like it and also didn’t really know this until I was an adult. It sort of made me self-conscious about the movies I loved lol. So strange. I loved it, and I should definitely revisit it again soon. I’m sure there are lines in there that I didn’t realize I had memorized lol thank you for bringing this one up!
Knock Knock has a 4.9? The hell is with that? I had no idea it was rated so low, but I enjoy that one. I do think it might have been better with the alternate ending where he tracks them down, but I'm not sure. I do remember not liking Book of Shadows, though I don't remember why. I do recall liking that goth girl, though. The one I can't really grasp in terms of its low rating is Strangers: Prey at Night, which has a totally undeserved 5.2. While the original may be more shocking and visceral, this one is just a blast and has some great usages of music.
🥳🥳🥳Happy Birthday, Emma🥳🥳🥳 🥸 Hope you have a great day! I would love to watch Tusk one day, but I don't think I can. I'm just too scared. I thought it was funny when you talked about the main character's progression......I mean, he becomes a Walrus!? I admit I've been intrigued, it's on my "to do" list.....yes, one day I'll get to it.
I totally agree with Dreamcatcher (I haven't read the book yet either) it's funny because my husband and I were literally talking about it the other day, I honestly didn't realize it was so hated lol. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is just a fun time and I enjoy it as much as the original, a vacation on a stormy deserted island resort sounds top notch and Brandi was great! Lords of Salem too! That has to be my second favorite Rob Zombie movie of all time. The other movies I either haven't seen or haven't seen in a long time, I don't remember House of Wax well...but I feel like I remember liking it.
I also like Tusk (even though it makes me a little sick in my stomach), Swimfan, Knock Knock, and House of Wax (saw it in theaters). I've never seen Seed of Chucky, but I think I will probably like it. A movie I love that I know no one else does Carrie 2- and I'm sure it's because I could relate to the Carrie character at the time - 1999 I was an unpopular girl in high school.
I'm with you on Book of shadows! I've always loved this one too! I also remember when I realized it was a hated movie, I watched it again, and was like "nah .still love it " 😂
I haven't thought about The Dreamcatcher in ages and I was invaded by a wave of nostalgia when you mentioned it! I loved it when I first watched it and now I don't want to go back so I don't ruin the memories. To me it's still a fun film. I also love a lot of poorly rated movies simply because I watched them with friends on sleepovers when I was a teen and I cherish those memories. Like, I remember watching The Fog or Midnight Meat Train or that ridiculous Jessica Alba thriller and enjoying them because it was a party with my friends. I'm not watching them again and I will give these movies 10/10 (one that I genuinely enjoy and I've watched it again is Gothika. Don't come at me!) Also, I'd love to watch a video where you mention which films everyone loves but you don't!
The Black Room - one of the best vampire movies but with only a 4.9 - hopefully new VinSyn blu ray changes that The Mangler - Most of Tobe Hoopers films are criminally underrated Sleepwalkers - Clovis the Cat should be a horror icon Wild Beasts - escaped zoo animals high on PCP attack a city, what’s not to like?! The Manitou - wonderfully deranged and fun exorcist ripoff Killer Nun - my favourite of the nunsploitation movies. And plenty of my favourites have a score of around 5.6 The Evil Within (2017) - in some ways, yes, this movie is very bad… but it also has the best practical special effects of any horror of the 2010s) Xtro - I adore Communion, but THIS is my favourite alien movie. Street Trash - colourful and fun movie about hobos melting It’s like people just don’t know fun when they see it.
So many of my absolute favorites on this list...Tusk, Dreamcatcher (and I read the book), I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, Lords of Salem, House of Wax. Communion I've never seen, so thank you for this rec! Just watched the entire Cabin Fever franchise last week 😂
I love this list. If I had to add anything to it, I'd recommend Curse 2: The Bite, and Pet Sematary 2. I'll have to give Blair Witch 2 another try, as I remember nothing about it. Really glad I was recommended this video! Now I gotta deep dive into your videos for more recommendations
More of these! I love poking through the low score imdb horror movies because they're endless, and then pass them by even though some look appealing. Lords of Salem is one of my favs! I saw a few but will watch Knock Knock again. I can't trust ratings since some of the worst movies I've ever seen are ranked so high! Thanks for your reviews and sending good thoughts your way for the happiest of new years!
I LOVE Dreamcatcher. It has always been one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations. It’s right there with The Mist. I understand why people aren’t fans of either, but I love them. House of Wax is another fave. It’s just one of those 2000s classic horror movies and I hope more people give it a chance.
Only movie I haven’t seen on your list was communion (I added it to my watch list) I agree with you. Especially Book of shadows! Happy Birthday! Many blessings to you and your loved ones.
I know what you did last summer 1 & 2 are the movies that made me fall in love with Horror and Book of Shadows is my Favorite Film; we're kindred spirits! 😊👍
I remain unchanged. As others have said, you are the one person that has shown us all over the world through the Internet so much film and content out there that we never would have known it existed had you not made any content of your own about it all. I really do not have any objections of different opinions based on the films you have listed here though. So there is that too. And finally,... HAPPY BIRTHDAY.
I agree with you on most of this list. Love the Summer sequel, as well as House of Wax, and Lords of Salem is friggin dark and crazy in the best way! And Sherrie Moon as Baby in House of 1000 Corpses is my favorite.
Such an awesome idea for a video! I stand with you on the Swim fan train. I loved it, remember almost everything about the day leading up to seeing it in the theater on release day. Please make the opposite of this video!
I agree with you on many of these choices. I watched a book of shadows in the movie theater when it was released. I think it has a bad rap because it is not doing the hand held found footage all over again. Sometimes you have to give these type of movies a chance. I recently watched 8 MM for the first time and I thought it was pretty decent.
I adore Kevin Smith, and I remember the day I listened to him and Scott Mosier discuss Kevin coming up with the idea for a movie after reading a Craigslist advertisement. I was like "haha he'll never do that"....then he made "Tusk". Micheal Parks was a phenomenal actor and he HATED Justin Long when they first met, and I think it adds a lot to their relationship in the movie. For me, it's a horrific movie, that works on so many levels. Also, Kevin Smith's "Red State" is a pretty wild movie with Micheal Parks that people never gave a chance.
RE: Blair Witch Book of Shadows. Well, I will say this as someone who has not seen it since its release, I didn't mind it. I went in though expecting it not to compare to the first with tempered expectations, after all, what could possibly live up to the hype and to be fair pretty much the pioneer in the standard of found footage genre so it was probably a good idea for them not to attempt to out do the original. I liked that it was quite different, yes it definitely felt that it was trying a little too hard to tie into the first one and that it was definitely cash in in on the Blair Witch name but I can't blame them for that I guess. Again, not as good or original but I can say while watching there were a few surprises and I liked some scenes for sure. I DO plan to revisit it again sometime soon after which I suspect I can put this one to bed permanently and not watch it again.
Got me curious if there were any movies I enjoyed that fell into this category. I got: Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957) The Monster of Piedras Blancas (1959) Space Amoeba (1970) Equinox (1970) The Dunwich Horror (1970) The Velvet Vampire (1971) Tentacles (1977) Bog (1979) Contamination (1980)
I love nearly all of these! House of Wax is a fucking blast. Swimfan is actually really unsettling, and Tusk is absolutely terrifying. My wife is still angry at me for making her watch Tusk.
BE2:BOS was meta before meta was a thing. I think it's very clever - much more so than the original Blair Witch. I guess most people just didn't get it.
Really enjoyed this video and started thinking of my unpopular horror movie opinions. One of my favorites from recent years is Velvet buzzsaw. It has 5.7 on imdb, but I think it deserves a higher score. The actors have so munch fun with their characters and the art world is portrayed in such funny way. I know the story is pretty bad, but I really liked it. Happy birthday!
I can understand feeling that a book I loved turned to shit and being dissapointed, but myself being a fan of very specific nieches of horror movies and finding my own joy despite the entirety not being perfect is perhaps a reason I like alot of my movies, and your channel. I find myself liking a movies because of a certain character, twist (or lack thereof) etc. I really found that in your point with the Stephen King adaptation, and as a Lovecraft fan, I enjoy some - not all adaptations - whilst trying to understand that making a whole reality of the book or story without some sacrifices are near impossible... Well.., perhaps we as consumers are just a bit spoiled? Me and a friend LOVE Martyrs (French) and we showed it to her boyfriend and four years later he still mocks us, whilst we find it horrible, introspective and deep - he only found cheap scares, violence and pretentiousness, which is kind of funny when one just accepts that alot of people like different things - for different reasons. And just vibe with it lol
I read and watched Communion after learning it was one of the many things drawn on to create the world within David Lynch's Twin Peaks and I honestly do feel I have a better understanding of what's going on in the show. Anything that helps me understand even a fraction of the more supernatural or extraterrestrial elements of Twin Peaks is a welcome addition to my "must-see" list!
Happy birthday!❤ and actually I like most of these movies, except Knock Knock. That movie nearly gave me an aneurysm. But I"ll do you one better. Jason Goes To Hell. Actually love it, brutal, entertaining, well acted, different and shot in an atmospheric spooky way that was kinda lost after The Final Chapter imo. Down vote all you like, but if you rewatch with an open mind that one is underrated!!
I always thought Jason goes to hell was a lot better than people give it credit for. Better than part 8 for sure. I guess the whole body swapping thing turned a lot of people against it.
Totally agree with most of this list, Blair Witch 2 and Lords of Salem in particular - Sheri's best performance IMO - not sure why it was so overlooked
Im pretty surprised people don’t like Tusk either. It’s so unhinged and goofy yet terrifying!? Underrated imo too. Also, The Lords of Salem is absolutely fantastic 🎉
A movie I like that probably not too many people do is August Underground. It's gritty, and I think the premise can be horrifying. Imagine being at a party and you meet some cool people who invite you back to their house. And so on
I don't understand the hate for all these movies. I love Knock Knock, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, House of Wax and Seed of Chucky. Constant rewatches. Especially I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Love me some Brandi and heavy 90's vibes.
I always say that a film doesn’t have to be “good” to be entertaining!! A lot of “bad” films bring us so much joy

House of Wax is one of my favorite movies! I also love Swimfan and ISKWYDLS. I love the concept of this video and would love to see the flip side.
I have both Swimfan & Knock Knock on DVD 📀 & have watched them both several times. There both really good 👍.
I work at a library and one of our patrons requested the Communion book recently through our interlibrary loan system and I was so intrigued when it came in. I definitely need to watch the movie and read the book too!
Thank you for giving Lords and Sheri some well-deserved love ❤️
@@bo2720 The following comes from The Great Stephen King Reread: Cujo
In King’s On Writing he immortalizes Cujo with, “At the end of my adventures I was drinking a case of sixteen-ounce tallboys a night, and there’s one novel, Cujo, that I barely remember writing at all…I like that book.
@@austindolan7182 I actually got used copies of Dreamcatcher and Under The Dome just earlier for only six bucks.
if nothing more, i def stand with you on Lords of Salem.
i legit didn't even think RZ directed it! it felt more meditative, letting the narrative take its time, SOLID camera work - probably his best EVER - and it just doesn't get the respect it, and Zombie, deserves.
I LOVE “I still know what you did last summer.” One of my fave 90s horror films.
(I clicked on the video knowing the first and last movies would be on the list lol)
The movies that I like that I'm seeing have 5.5 or less on IMDB are Halloween Kills - 5.5 (I liked it just as much as the first one and the original, not sorry, evil dies tonight and all!); Lucky - 5.0 (can't believe this is so low, seriously); Kill theory - 5.3 (this was just fun, come on); Feedback - 5.5; The houses October built - 5.2 (can't believe this one is so low either); Blair witch 2016 - 5.0 (I really enjoyed this one!); Piercing - 5.5.
Many happy returns Emma 👍 my guilty pleasure happens to be phantasm 😂 a movie begging for a remake.
The first half of Dreamcatcher is great! It struggled a bit at the end, but overall I enjoy it
At 45 seconds you haven’t named a single movie yet, but I love the premise of this list.
Sometimes I need one minute to intro the video. You can’t just start listing at 0 seconds without explaining the premise.
@@spookyastronauts I just meant that I loved the list without knowing what was on it!
Ohhhhhh I see I’m sorry!!! That’s totally my own fault! Thank you Michelle ! Sorry for being such a brat.
Jesse Bradford was a big crush of mine when I was younger.
This list isn’t even that bad cuz I like swimfan, Dreamcatcher, ISKWYDLS, Knock Knock, & House of Wax! They’re definitely all guilty pleasures
IMHO The Lords of Salem (2012) was legitimately a scary movie, and I've "heard" that Communion (1989) was scary as well.
This list is why I trust your film opinions - I love all of these movies! Would love to see a list of the horror films you hate but most people love!
Good taste, Emma! I support all the movies on your list. One, what a lot of people don't like, but I enjoy, is: Fried Barry.
oooo! brave of you! i didnt like it much but i respect it!
I gasped when you said people don’t like Tusk! And dreamcatcher is a movie I think of often. I was waaaay too young when I first saw it 😭
I also like Tusk (even though it makes me a little sick in my stomach), Swimfan, Knock Knock, and House of Wax (saw it in theaters).
I also remember when I realized it was a hated movie, I watched it again, and was like "nah .still love it " 😂
Happy birthday week, thank you for the joy you bring to fans!
I'm not watching them again and I will give these movies 10/10
(one that I genuinely enjoy and I've watched it again is Gothika. Don't come at me!)
Also, I'd love to watch a video where you mention which films everyone loves but you don't!
The Black Room - one of the best vampire movies but with only a 4.9 - hopefully new VinSyn blu ray changes that
The Mangler - Most of Tobe Hoopers films are criminally underrated
Sleepwalkers - Clovis the Cat should be a horror icon
Wild Beasts - escaped zoo animals high on PCP attack a city, what’s not to like?!
The Manitou - wonderfully deranged and fun exorcist ripoff
Killer Nun - my favourite of the nunsploitation movies.
And plenty of my favourites have a score of around 5.6
The Evil Within (2017) - in some ways, yes, this movie is very bad… but it also has the best practical special effects of any horror of the 2010s)
Xtro - I adore Communion, but THIS is my favourite alien movie.
Street Trash - colourful and fun movie about hobos melting
It’s like people just don’t know fun when they see it.
The scene of the bedroom door in communion traumatized me when i was a kid.
Thanks for your reviews and sending good thoughts your way for the happiest of new years!
happy birthday
Happy Birthday 🎂🎁🎆🎈🎉🎊
Thank You for the List and Video 😀
I agree with you about most of these. And I absolutely ADORE House of Wax!!
You’re so brave for this lol. I like A Haunting in Connecticut and Sharknado 2. And I like the Rose Red miniseries
I love this list! I'd totally forgotten about Swim Fan and IKWYDLS2 and will be rewatching both immediately.
I love Swimfan. I really like the song at the end, Everything.
I got:
Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957)
The Monster of Piedras Blancas (1959)
Space Amoeba (1970)
Equinox (1970)
The Dunwich Horror (1970)
The Velvet Vampire (1971)
Tentacles (1977)
Bog (1979)
Contamination (1980)
Not too shabby 😅👌🏽 Can't think of many myself, but maybe whole FEAST series. And Maybe THE COLLECTOR & SEQUEL may fall in this talk.
I love Dreamcatcher, House of Wax and Communion (I'm old and saw all 3 when they were first released). You can have the rest.
Blair witch book of shadows is a movie I remember watching as a child. It’s very nostalgic for me and I freaking love it
Really enjoyed this video and started thinking of my unpopular horror movie opinions. One of my favorites from recent years is Velvet buzzsaw. It has 5.7 on imdb, but I think it deserves a higher score. The actors have so munch fun with their characters and the art world is portrayed in such funny way. I know the story is pretty bad, but I really liked it. Happy birthday!
Seed of Chucky is brilliant and Jennifer Tilly is so so great in it and John Waters is my all time favourite film makers, what’s not to love ❤️
I love many "hated" films: Venom, The Fog (2005), House of Wax, Black Christmas (2006), Hellraiser 4 (1996), Alien 3, Doom, Dr. Giggles, Cabin Fever
I too enjoyed knock knock. The big twist being John Wick gets his ass handed to him, in his own house by two girls! lol
oh I so love Tusk! Dreamcatcher was not bad at all. Also I very much enjoyed House of Wax.
I enjoy some of those movies on your list as well (swimfan, I still know, House of Wax. Also, happy birthday week
I like many films from this. Happy Birthday to you!!! 🥳🥳🥳
I watched Communion with my best friend when we were 12. It TERRIFIED US. I haven't been able to watch it since!
Totally agree with most of this list, Blair Witch 2 and Lords of Salem in particular - Sheri's best performance IMO - not sure why it was so overlooked
Happy Birthday! My B-Day week as well. Go, Aquarius!
Shoutout to Hellraiser: Inferno. It's such a great movie and I credit it for changing my life.
Im pretty surprised people don’t like Tusk either. It’s so unhinged and goofy yet terrifying!? Underrated imo too. Also, The Lords of Salem is absolutely fantastic 🎉
Contracted and Unfriended. Two terrible movies with two terrible scripts, and I absolutely love them both.
I just rewatched unfriended the other day!!! its not bad at all!
Love Tusk, especially at the end when you see him in that zoo place eating fish
A movie I like that probably not too many people do is August Underground. It's gritty, and I think the premise can be horrifying. Imagine being at a party and you meet some cool people who invite you back to their house. And so on
I don't understand the hate for all these movies. I love Knock Knock, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, House of Wax and Seed of Chucky. Constant rewatches. Especially I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Love me some Brandi and heavy 90's vibes.
