      Most people would stop complaining if those movies had intermissions, same as you have breaks between episodes. That said, I really see a problem with pacing in a lot of recent long movies. The Batman, EEAAO, No Time to Die, Across the Spider-Verse and MI Dead Reckoning all could've been trimmed by 20-30 minutes without losing much. It's even worse with the last two because you spend 2,5h in a theater only to get a cliffhanger. You're telling me Citizen Kane can tell a man's entire life story in 2 hours but Tom Cruise doing stunts needs 164 minutes just to get to a midpoint?

    Goro Miyazaki directed a great little animated movie called from up on poppy hill in 2011. The directing, the visuals, the nostalgic and wonderful presentation of school and adolescence are what people praise the movie for (and these deserve to be credited much more towards the director, Goro than one of the writers, Hayao). The music's also great but that's irrelevant to my point.

    If the Disney remakes are supposed to "introduce a new generation to the classic stories", it's essentially calling them an ad campaign for kids to see the originals.
    They aren't good movies, and if spending millions of dollars on a worse remake just to make kids see the originals... Wouldn't a poster be much cheaper, and probably more effective?

    • @matman000000
      @matman000000 29 дней назад

      They're also remaking the wrong movies. Their 90's animation like Atlantis and Treasure Planet would be perfect for a live action remake, because they're not such recognizable classics, have a more realistic art style and their stories are perfect for an action adventure blockbuster with wide appeal. But they were flops and Disney only wants to ride on the older films' success, so it probably won't happen.

    There is no way Barry season 4 could be considered “minimal” in regards to Hader’s directing. Anyone can make a 30 second scene look great with 15 unnecessary cuts to give it a more “action” feel. But a lot of his most pivotal scenes are just 1 extended shot with ALOT going on. And, if you don’t know much about filmmaking then you’ll think that’s lazy but lemme tell you… it’s insane how much effort goes into a single tracking shot. The lighting for each second with a MOVING camera has to be perfect, the actors have to be extensively blocked and ensure to hit their mark each time, the special effect have to hit in a very hectic scenarios etc. And although this season lacked as much comedy as the previous seasons, anyone that calls Hader’s directing boring or lazy is a moron when it comes to making film and television. For context, simply go back to the scene when Gene and his manager break into the reporters house and soak in just how much is happening in camera with just a single tracking shot.

    I just feel like in terms of adaptations for the new generation look no further than the Spielberg West Side Story, that basically reinvented the classic story for this movie's new target audience.

    • @aarkproductions
      @aarkproductions Год назад +1

      It didn't reinvent the concept it merely honored the source material,
      And
      Had a great cast that was able give the same life to the original's respective songs
      But yes an honest adaptation that plays all the cards right goes a long way for people
      The 2016 jungle book is good example but the rest of Disney's properties don't survive the market by simply being repackaged in a new format and resold
      I mean...
      Think about it,
      Were you ever interested in a remake of snow white?
      Cause I sure wasn't
      That's why they're controversial all the time with the casting
      Now if course people are gonna watch even though they know it's bad
      Disney never put any effort in the sequel trilogy yet they know you went to watch all three films
      If they can make money and they don't have to try
      Why should they?

    I actually really love the Live action Aladdin Remake i never got attached to the original my favorite disney Renaissance film was indeed The Little Mermaid for so many reasons that it outshines alot of the other films from that era even tho majority of them are still pretty damn good. Idk if it was because i was high af for the first time watching Aladdin 2019 in the theater, but man it felt like the perfect mix of old and new stuff for a live action disney film. It made me appreciate Guy Richie and i really liked the performances through out the film and probably my favorite live action disney film the opening of arabian nights swept me off my feet it was such an amazing experience. It made me get into steelbook collecting when the best buy steelbook came out. Gorgeous steelbook by the way always wanted a replica of the lamp.

    "reintroducing kids to classic stories"....god thats a horrible take. Thats what the original animations were already doing. Many of them aren't at all original stories, they were classic European folklore, but they actually made them cinematic with great songs and visuals. Disney didnt invent Robin Hood or Winnie the Pooh or Pinocchio. But they did bring them more to life through their movies. These live actions are literally just bad remakes. No originality injected at all. And to say "they reintroduce them to kids" as if we don't have streaming services where you can just watch all of them at any time is so deluded.

    Live Action: It CAN work that way, like Cinderella and Jungle Book. But it works better on the more flawed films with room for improvement rather than the near perfect ones for BaTB.
    And it needs to an ADAPTION - with changes made to better benefit a live action approach - rather than a shot for shot of the animation.
    Scorses: I think if he’s gonna give us the long run time that long, he needs to take a lead out of Hateful Eights book and make intermissions great again.
    Matrix: Agree, although I enjoyed Reloaded as a fun action. Revolutions was a cash grab.

    for the first one, i dont think people understand that animation doesnt age, this Lions King live action thing is gonna look weird and outdated in 20 years, but the original will look just as good, because cartoons and 2d-animation doesnt age, if it looks good now, it will look good in a 100 years. So no live action remakes are NOT a good way of introducing a new audience to these films when better versions of set films already exist
