last year I had a rule where for every film I watched in English, I'd watch a film in another language and I managed to stick to it! most of the films I watched in other languages ended up being in French Japanese or Spanish
I felt so validated when you mentioned putting on a movie is super difficult but once one is going you cant get enough! hope to exceed 300 this year after watching 294 last year!
happy new year, karsten! i really hope that in the next year "romy and michelle's high school reunion" will be your most watched film, cuz it's so hilariously good
The Zone of Interest got released in a festival exactly ONE YEAR ago. It got released on Cinema and other festivals ever since and yet there is no date as when it will get released digitally. At the point i am certain they won’t release it any time soon probably after the Oscars which is a shame because I really want to see this movie
a year ago? nope it premiered at cannes in may 2023… and the us theatrical release was 2 weeks ago. you gotta give it a bit of a window before it goes digital
Not stats, but 2023 was the year I really got into films, and also the first time I went over 100 movies in a year. I even made a "My Favorite 100" video to celebrate it. So thank you for introducing me to Letterboxd, it played a big part :)
Because I logged all of the Top Gear specials which obviously took place all over the world, my 2023 world map was more filled in that Karsten’s purely down to a technicality
Thank you for saying what needed to be said about Nightmare Alley. It’s also the one where I realized how much I liked him. It was my favorite film of that year as well!
happy new year, karsten! as a Brazilian, i really think you should give our recent films a shot: "marte 1", "pedágio", "retratos fantasmas" (from the director of Bacurau) and "deserto particular" just to name a few! hope you enjoy it, thanks for the great videos and for being such a chill guy
I wouldn't fret too much about the world map statistics. It only relates to where a movie was produced, which is nowhere near as reflective of taste as a language stat. (I.e Hot Fuzz and Terminator 2 are categorized as French films lmao)
I am amazed you didn’t look at your stats until the end of the year! I can see the appeal though. It’d be fun to be surprised. I unfortunately seem to check my stats after every movie I watch 😅 gotta get actors above the 8 Harry Potter movie barrier. Harry Potter warps my stats so hard every year lol
For me, my most-watched actor was Willem Defoe, and my most-watched director was Justin Lin (this one didn't come as big of a shock since I watched many Fast & Furious films in preparation for the new movie before it came out).
I have Letterboxd pro, but have no idea how to access last year's data only, just all time stats. I do know from my Excel Movie sheet that I watched 396 movies last year, 75 at the cinema, 260 from my collection & 61 from rentals/streaming services.
I did have a big Bradley Cooper year too, I watched DnD, All GotG including the holiday special and the Groot short films (making Vin Diesel tied with him on the stats), The Place Beyond the Pines, Maestro, A Star is Born, Avengers Endgame and 10 Cloverfield Lane
The thing about the pie charts is I think most are like yours and not the opposite like you think. Actually seeing that I’ve rewatched another movie x amount of times makes me branch out. Trust me I’m doing anything to get Mickey Mouse Runaway Brain out of my Recent Activity
Wait is this the official wrapped or are these just the stats? Letterboxd has been posting that they’re sending the wrapped emails at the end of the week so I wonder if they’re two separate things
Hi! And thank you for the video! Do you know if wrapped will be available only for people owning a Pro or Patron account? If not, will it be sent to us by email? Thanks :)
watch german movies this year for me pls i got pretty good at it but i have sort of fallen off so if u watch a bunch of german movies i can just practice that way. i'd recommend victoria if u haven't seen it lol that movie is fantastic
Passages is the most unenjoyable experiences I've ever had watching a movie. I can't fault the craft, but the main character was so detestable and uninterested from the first scene, I longed for more of the other two leads as I just couldn't be bothered with him at all. It was like a slasher flick with how dumb those two were, but a slasher where the monster has zero charisma
Isn't art something that provokes emotions in you as a general notion? So that means if you enjoy somethingly deeply it's great that is art hence the reason for conflicting in Architecture despite nearly of them being art
Please please watch some more latin american films for starters. We have such a rich and diverse movie culture that it's just wasteful not to watch. Sadly some new political candidates (Milei, the new liberal elected president in Argentina) dont seem to realize this either so in lu of a economic regrowth he is just tanking the local film institute by his arbitrary decision thus extremely limitating the capacity of filmmakers to make new movies. This, in turn, makes our movies even harder to reach and alienates us from the international cultural landscape. Some Argentinian movies are right up your alley as well. To get you started right on MUBI you've Martin Rejtman's (almost) full filmography and he is just awesome but i've got hundreds of recommendations if you'd like more. Have a good one!
last year I had a rule where for every film I watched in English, I'd watch a film in another language and I managed to stick to it! most of the films I watched in other languages ended up being in French Japanese or Spanish
I also try to do the same. This year I watched movies from Belgium, France, Morocco, Pakistan, Bhutan, India, China, Japan 😊

YES
You should explore Southeast Asia more. There are many gems to see. 🙌🏼

Great stuff as always karsten, appreciate you! I hope you had a great holiday and can’t wait to see what you cook up in 2024.

Happy New Year! Thanks for all the movies you recommended throughout the year! I got to watch a lot of great stuff I would've never been exposed to :)

Happy new year Karsten! Waiting for the December vid
Karsten you gotta watch more Korean films tbh, 2023 has been a pretty good year for korean cinema too
Give some respect to Shea Whigham, he's not too big in film, but he's had great roles on TV like Fargo, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective
I am amazed you didn’t look at your stats until the end of the year! I can see the appeal though. It’d be fun to be surprised. Passages is fuckin amazing, I'm right there with you.
Finally you realize The Holdovers is top 10. Personally it’s my favorite of the year.
My most watched films from the year were from the Andersons. I do hope to branch out in my film taste this year too!
Riceboy sleeps is amazing more people need to see it
I'm having the same issue with Zone of Interest! I wanna see it so bad! 😫
I have Letterboxd pro, but have no idea how to access last year's data only, just all time stats. I do know from my Excel Movie sheet that I watched 396 movies last year, 75 at the cinema, 260 from my collection & 61 from rentals/streaming services.
omg i forgot these existed ima check mine like literally after this video
"the Gullspång miracle" is a great documentary that came out in 2023!
The movie "Fresh" got immediately into my top 4. Omg.
Hes in cloverfield?? 😮😮 who is his character?
@@dixon4138 Just his voice, Michelle's boyfriend
Great channel. You gotta see John Wick 4 ASAP!

Has anyone else's wrapped not come through yet?
It's coming on the 5th...but us paying people have access to this all the time.
@@Busha69 im also on the patron but was just wondering when it was coming as Karsten seems to have his already
looking forward to reading your review of the taylor swift movie
Rear Window was my last film too!
Wait is this the official wrapped or are these just the stats? Letterboxd has been posting that they’re sending the wrapped emails at the end of the week so I wonder if they’re two separate things
Thats just the stats for people that have the suscriptions.
Is The Zone of Interest going on your 2024 list? It’s not releasing here in Florida for a while I guess
Same
My New Year’s resolution is to use Letterboxd for all the films I watch lmao
If you wanna branch out more I recommend where evil lurks
Hi! And thank you for the video! Do you know if wrapped will be available only for people owning a Pro or Patron account? If not, will it be sent to us by email? Thanks :)
Same question here
I think everyone gets it on january 5th! (Basing off letterboxd’s twitter)
This place rules was my first film too lol
When are the first annual Karstie Awards coming out?
Leslie bricusse is the person who composed the songs ‘Pure Imagination’ and ‘Feeling good’ brilliant composer
You should watch more stuff from South America, South Asia, and Southeast Asia :)
I watched M:I Dead Reckoning nine times….oh boy. But love that movie, so I’m good with that stat haha
baller
Seriously why is it so hard to find Zone of Interest showtimes
7 seconds into the video, already put like
Where do you find this? Is it only for patrons or am I dumb?

I'm pretty surprised by the national spread too, just intuitively I thought you'd have a lot more eastern Europe and Japan.
Do you need to be a patron to see this on Letterboxd?
What Dutch movie did you see last year?
Dang, man! No Brazil... Watch Pictures of Ghosts, Brazil's submission to the Oscars and also an artful doc 😉
Is this only for a pro version on Letterbox?
Please rewatch Jeanne Dielman and make a video about it
How do I see this on my Letterboxd?
KARSTEN: (HAS ATTACK ON TITAN: THE FINAL SEASON ON HIS PENDING LIST)

Which Hungarian movie did you see?
Where do you find these stats?
i think u need letterboxd pro or patron to see these :/
I think you need to have pro or be a patron but not sure
I think everybody should be able to see them soon, you don’t need pro or patron but I don’t think it will be as in depth for free
Did not expect to see Karol G in here lol
My first film of 2024 was Josie and the pussycats
Hey karst... Watch Kumbalangi Nights (2019) Malayalam (Indian) movie.. let's branch out
I felt holdovers was mid and would be forgotten, but thats why film is awesome
u need to watch more Brasil films
I can't even finish Super Mario.
Well, if you need recs for movies from Slovakia, hmu.
You should watch more southeast asian films.
I thought I was having a good film and then suddenly I checked my wrapped and my most watched actor ended up being seth Rogen somehow?????
I totally agree with Mario Bros movie. I literally can't remember anything from that movie that wasn't in the trailer. It was just SO forgettable
karsten, you better watch some Indian cinema or we take back Dev Patel. (NO RRR ISTFG)
You could watch more brazillians movies bro

Nothing from Africa and most of Asia. That hurts
watch joyland
you should watch some bollywood movies if you like big music moments in film as well!
I’m nothing like y’all. I hated Mario on the first watch 😈
Why are u so hard on yourself with which genres u watch en how lany movies u watch? It's for ur entertainment so why be so critical?:)
Because he probably cares more about movies as an art form as opposed to a form of entertainment.
Isn't art something that provokes emotions in you as a general notion? So that means if you enjoy somethingly deeply it's great that is art hence the reason for conflicting in Architecture despite nearly of them being art
You should go back to streaming
Real

Shitty move from Letterboxd to have moved the "rated higher and lower than average" section from pro to patron subscribers
Damn, a Harvey Weinstein fan in 2023 is crazy.
My pet peeve is people who log short films
What the hell did I click on Disgusted bro
