    I’ve always looked at it as if there’s a film you wanna see on the big screen and nobody wants to watch it with you then why miss out? This can apply to things like concerts too. Nobody is gonna know if you’re on your own if you’re surrounded by people. Always think that. I’ve been to so many films in my own because I’m a massive independent and foreign cinema fan. I even went to Sundance on my own. Did I care? No. Nobody cares.

    I don't think it's weird at all. I do it all the time if my friends are busy or not interested. A lot of times, I prefer to do it, because it's a hassle to coordinate with someone else to meet up and do other stuff before or after the movie, etc... I just want to see the movie, so I'm just gonna go watch it. I do enjoy going with others when it happens, but since it's so much easier to go alone, I find myself doing that way more often these days. Going with friends was easy when I was younger, but when everybody's working and has different schedules or stuff going on, etc, it's tougher to hang out for something like going to see a movie, so it makes sense to just do it on my own time, or I'd probably never see many movies.

    I don't have a problem going to the cinema by myself at all. Most of the people around me aren't as enthusiastic about films as I am so when a movie comes out that I am especially excited for, I'll go by myself if no one else wants to see it too. This is actually an interesting question...... I personally hate putting social restrictions on my life or would put them on anyone else.... if something brings a smile to your face and isn't hurting anyone JUST DO IT..... going to the cinema by myself is my escape from the world... it gives me the same sort of enjoyment that say a cold beer might give another person... it helps me relax and disappear into another world for a few hours.... and if someone has a problem with that well quite frankly they can shove it...

    A friend who I was going to cinemas with moved out of town a couple years ago and it kinda forced me to sometimes go alone, and right now I’m in a situation where I actually prefer to see some movies alone. Like movies that feel a bit more intimate such as the new movie Past Lives. Bodies Bodies Bodies is an interesting movie to go see alone tho because it definitely benefits from having a crowd and it’s a movie I’d definitely want to watch with a group of friends. That’s usually how I see most comedies and action/adventure type movies.

    You can go to movies with others? I've been watching movies in cinema for 40 years and never considered inviting anyone with me.
    I think someone might have invited me a few times, but that was more an eating and "doing stuff" social event, that it involved a cinema was not the main point, but I think movie going is not the best "social event", so I would rather invite people out to eat or bowling or both. Sports events seems like better group activities, even if the group is watching the game, you at least can yell and watch.
    The only grouping and cinema, I can get behind is when escorting those small people, that society, rightly mind you, think can't handle it on their own.

    tbh i go to watch movies alone if i can most of the time, when i am watching with my friends there is always the dreaded post movie discussions that we have at mcdonalds or something lol. like i will just have to hear them complain about the movie or ask me a million questions about what i think about it or vice versa they have to hear me as well. also in the theatre i dont have to do this thing where i look over at them everytime something funny or interesting happens like to laugh with them or something. so i wouldnt say its weird at all although its not really common for people to do i guess.

    • @PavelTalks

      facts!! sometimes i don’t wanna share how i felt about the movie too because i want to internally process it, as weird as that sounds
      and nothing worse when somebody didn’t care about the movie and then they’re super confused after

    I used to love going to the movies by myself! I remember once in January 2022, I went to a subtitled midday screening of the anime film “Belle” on one of the bigger screens at a local theater, and I was the only one in the auditorium. It was, and still is, one of my favorite screenings I’ve ever been to! Just me, a giant 4K Laser screen, and loud surround sound. It was *magical*.
    However, since then, I’ve been to many movies by myself. The more often I did it, the less special it felt. I missed having people to talk with after the movie. I missed having someone to reminisce with on the way out of the theater. I just missed having that social interaction. Whenever I go now, 99% of the time I go with someone else, and when I do go by myself it’s now usually because of reasons beyond my control. I think I only went to 3 movies by myself last year. I like having someone to talk with after each movie I go out to see.
    I don’t think it’s weird to go to the movies by yourself. I just personally love the socialization aspect, as well as the different discussions that many films can lead to afterward that come with going with a friend or loved one.

      @PavelTalks  2 месяца назад

    Some people might think that going to the cinema alone is weird or sad, but I don't agree. I actually enjoy it a lot. Here's why:
    First of all, I can choose whatever movie I want to watch without worrying about other people's opinions or preferences. Sometimes I like to watch indie films or foreign films that my friends are not interested in. Other times I just want to watch a blockbuster or a comedy that doesn't require much thinking. Either way, I can pick whatever suits my mood and taste.
    Secondly, I can enjoy the movie without any distractions or interruptions. I don't have to deal with someone talking during the movie, asking me questions, or commenting on every scene. I don't have to share my popcorn or drinks with anyone. I can just focus on the movie and immerse myself in the story.
    Thirdly, I can have some time for myself and relax. Going to the cinema alone is a way of treating myself and doing something fun. It's also a way of escaping from the stress and worries of everyday life. I can forget about everything else for a couple of hours and just enjoy the entertainment. It's like a mini-vacation for my mind.
    So, as you can see, going to the cinema alone is not weird at all. It's actually a great experience that I recommend to everyone. You might be surprised by how much you like it.

    I miss the old days of going with my late parents
    It would always be a treat yet I still got dragged to movies I didn’t want to see
    Then as I grew up it had the opposite effect
    Also keep in mind if you have friends in high school there’s carpooling involved
    But after graduating there’s less contact and not many people have free time or they move away
    It just hurts knowing that’s a part of life
    Certain theater experiences you start to notice too;
    Loud and disruptive people especially at night
    Parents bringing in their screaming children even to movies not appropriate for them
    Someone constantly on their phone or just being annoying getting the usher to kick them out
    It stinks too when someone randomly kicks your seat for no reason
    Also gotta pick the right showtimes to avoid such situations
    Even covid made it a bit scary, sitting next to people you couldn’t tell were healthy or sick avoiding coughing and sneezing
    Reserved seating has helped too not scrambling to find a decent seat
    I go alone now these days cause my siblings live so far away and it’s hard to meet locals to go on a movie date
    Plus they’d rather do other things on certain weekends even if the weather is so crummy with nothing else to do
    So yeah going to the movies has changed since my childhood
    There’s a lot of things to consider

    • @PavelTalks
      @PavelTalks  15 дней назад

      Honestly, that comment made me feel a little emotion because of how poetically you explained not just growing life but how quickly things changed and with that, they’re things out of our control. It’s definitely something I think about daily and find it difficult to accept at times, and I find myself in a cycle of accepting it - being upset about certain things and repeating it (movies being a catalyst for the spiral)
      saying all that, there’s so much to consider when asking what the best way is to watch a movie
      thanks for the lovely comment :)

    "Not having the luxury of pausing" is a very good point and why the cinema experience is quite different from home viewing. no subtitles (except for "foreign" films) is also a problem for me, as often a projectionist doesnt quite know what they're doing with sound levels and are just playing at a booming loud level, so i find myself missing out on any subtleties of dialogue. "Not having someone to discuss the movie with" was always a problem, cos none of my friends were cinema-literate. for them it was just a way to kill a couple of hours and then trying to talk to them afterwards getting mono-syllabic responses, like it "was good/great" or it was "awful/hated it". But why? what did you like/dislike about it? lol! and them not knowing how to express that was kinda infuriating cos i guess i discovered i was crazy for movies and they were just "meh!" so any "discussion" was my monologue and probably totally annoying for them! subsequently all I've had is time to reflect on things by myself. downside to home viewing on a tv, is the reflection on glass of other light sources can diminish the kind of cinematography you describe for "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies" and that if you want to really appreciate the sound quality/engineering you probably need to use headphones. thank you for your thoughtful review and making me think on my own film viewing experience.

      I agree again!!! so many times at the cinema I don’t hear a lot of what’s said bc of that AND because I use subtitles at home all the time !! they’re vital for me as I want to catch every part of the movie

    Hey! What a good topic! Happy to see you actually had the experience of going alone.
    First time I went alone I remember feeling so odd and awkward, luckily there weren't many people, and I remember there was one girl who was also going on her own, so it felt nice not being the only one being alone. The movie was Potiche, part of a French film festival, and it was gonna be on for one or two days only, and there would be only one or two screenings, so I didn't have time to invite friends LOL.
    My guess as to why we feel weird is because advertising. It's always people going to the cinema in big groups with lots of friends... Obviously, it's business so they want us to bring a party 😆 But there shouldn't be any awkwardness to it.
    I actually enjoy paying attention and not having someone talking over the movie 😅 I never know the polite way to ask them to stop talking 🤭🙈
    Hope you get to try it again and just feel perfectly normal about it.
    Have a great week!!

      hey!!
      yeah it’s definitely way nicer to have nobody near you because it makes you feel like you have the entire cinema to yourself 😂😂
      i’ve never heard of that film, gonna look it up now ….
      definitely a lot to do with advertising which impacts the general mentality around the thought of doing it - same with going for dinner alone etc etc
      there is no polite way sadly 😂
      thank you for your comment as always ❤️

    I go by myself often since I prefer going in the middle of the week when most friends are tied up. Its easier to find a seat and I can go in the hall early before the trailers instead of getting sidetracked by what my friends want todo. I like going during the week since its quieter and there are no lines for anything. It can suck not having company to shoot the shit with before the movie but at the same time i can take in the ambiance more.

    I did it for the first time in I think 2017(?) and realized it wasn't as weird as everyone says it is. I mean its not like you talk to your friends while you watch the movie anyway (unless youre an asshole). Of course like everyone else I enjoy watching movies with my friends but sometimes if I'm in the mood to watch a movie and don't want the trouble of asking around if anyone wants to go with me, its just easier to go alone. I also watch movies alone if im doing a rewatch in cinemas so I can really take it in more

    This video is a bit surreal for me, since I've been going to the cinema alone as far as I can remember, going to the movies alone is more normal than you know, never thought someone would make an entire video out of going alone once as if they were doing something completely altruistic lol

    • @PavelTalks
      @PavelTalks  Год назад

      that’s interesting, to me, it was definitely strange as going to the cinema alone was never a thing, even when i mentioned it to friends etc they thought it was very strange, it might be because i’m from somewhere quite small with no local cinemas - i made the video because I wanted to explore that and try it, would be a bit silly if i went to the cinema alone 10 times, vlogged and discussed it each time, that’s why I recorded about my experience once :)

    though i hardly go to the cinema alone anymore cos i hardly go to the cinema at all (my loss, i know!) i do know i often preferred to be alone and in an empty or near empty film house. why? if i was with friends i became too conscious as to whether they were enjoying themselves (or in the case of one friend who seemed to fall asleep almost every time, even when there were explosions going on screen!), and if i had mistaken what they might enjoy. or dealing with noise of other patrons, like patrons who use their phone or chatter through the film. or make loud eating noises. I've been at one cinema where someone brought a whole hot meal in foil and proceeded to stink the place out. or at "The Killing Fields" where some disgusting individuals laughed at the awful carnage, or the ones at "The Elephant Man" who complained loudly cos it wasn't the creature feature type horror film they were expecting. or the group of school girls, who like my friend and I, had snuck out of school to go see "Alien", but then proceeded to scream so much at any cause, it's what i imagine going to a Beatles concert and never hearing their music over the screaming fans, was like. i admit some big audiences at a comedy can get you into the mood of the film though. but between rising prices, poor cinema etiquette of audiences i realised that I'd do better to invest in a big screen tv, and a data projector so i could play things extra-large on a wall. And if i dare risk going to a theatre, it's after I've worked out where the best value is and the times likely to have the least crowd. the funniest downside to that though, was seeing something like "The House on Sorority Row" as part of a double feature and being the only person in the cinema. The ticket seller didn't tell the projectionist there was a customer and they couldn't see anyone in the auditorium so the movie was turned off after the first reel!! that was the scariest part of the whole outing, lol!

    I've been watching more movies on average in the past couple of months than any other time in my life. I'm not a streaming guy. I've always been a cinema kid. There are hundreds of factors when bringing a group together for a movie. Everyone needs to be available. Everyone should have a common interest in the film. Everyone wants to watch a decent film. Everyone wants to get their money's worth. But the fact is everyone is different.
    I'm inclined to choose a safe movie when going with a crowd, but I can experiment more when I go on my own. I recently paid money to watch Babylon. This movie is over 3 hours long, has extremely polarising reviews, and was a flop at the box office. It's clear to see this movie isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I loved it. If I waited to find someone to go with, I likely would've never caught it on a big screen. Even now, I can't convince my friends to watch it.
    Get comfortable doing things on your own! You learn very little about your preferences if you play it safe.
