Relive the first three episodes of the Skywalker Saga in Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga for the Nintendo DS. In light of Lego Star Wars the Skywalker Saga just on the horizon, I thought I'd cover a childhood classic that almost anyone who grew up in the 2000's as a star wars fan would recognise.

as someone who recently completed a 100% run of TCS's console version, it's very cool to see the stuff they pared down and changed in this port while still keeping the general structure of the levels intact!

Be it on console or the DS version.
This and the Clone Wars DS versions are the only versions I've ever played. To this day I've never played them on console. I remember Clone Wars specifically not having as many levels as the console counterpart, and the game just abruptly ending after the most random level.
Tbh for the time this was a really impressive port.
Man, I miss playing Lego Star Wars, watching this made me want to buy the complete saga again and pre order the skywalker saga
This game was so good, and it’s EXTRA amazing considering that the DS port of Lego Star Wars II was the COMPLETE opposite and was a totally broken, buggy mess- to the point where even I knew it was busted as a 12 year old. My mind was blown with how good this one ended up being!
You are not clear. Are you saying that the home console Lego Star Wars II games are a buggy mess or are you stating that the Nintendo DS version is the buggier version?
@@NYCJoeBlack The DS version of Lego Star Wars II is completely broken to the point where the final level isn't even playable on some copies. Nothing is accurate to the console game or the movies, the controls and platforming is terrible and it has so much lag that it's hard to even jump straight sometimes. It's extremely fun to mess around with but honestly such a terrible game compared to the complete saga.
Yeh I remember being stuck in the cantina as a ship losing all my progress in the 2nd one or tcs I dont remember

OH MAN, the memories of this game are all coming back, used to play this on my DSI all the time before I got an actual console, still one of my favorite DS games of all time
This is the first game i got for the DS ever on the 2014. I unlocked everything in every level. I still love this game with all my soul.
Loved this game as a kid. I did find out that all the gaps that are designed to hover across with an astromech can actually just be jumped with a Jedi if you time the jumps well which makes r2 and the others almost completely obsolete
I loved playing this game on ds as a kid! This game and Lego Batman on ds were the games I played to death (speaking of, would love to see a Lego Batman ds video). There is a Star Wars game on the 3ds that I played so much as well. It was Lego Star Wars 3 the clone wars, it had the most fun starship levels ever! (along with it being just a straight up fun Lego game) So if you want a Lego Star Wars game on handheld that feels like an actual stripped down console version, definitely try that one out.
Figured I point this out: 20:24 You're absolutely right that the same is true for coop play. But no player gets 10 hearts, you're only allotted 4. So unlike the console version where it's basically two Lego bosses fighting there, it's rather toned down here.

I can feel my childhood crawling back to me, such good times. Lego Star Wars episode 7 felt so souless, it was at one point one of the worst video games i have ever played, but time passed and now it's just boring. But this game was amazing, the unlockables, the minigames, the characters, sure it wasn't the console version, but it was the only version i ever had in my life. It breaks my heart seeing my DS no longer working, i'll try to fix it soon just so i can play this again.

17:30 that’s actually my favourite level and ironically I felt like it had some life in it. It gives me a weird sense of nostalgia plus it didn’t help that it fueled my classic clone obsession immensely.

It always amazed me how the prequel trilogy levels on the DS version are almost exactly the same as the console version. And then on the other hand it always baffled me how the original trilogy levels are completely different to the console versions. Something I’ve thought about for years now
I've played multiplayer on the ds version and yes you do get to battle each other on the duel on Mustafar. Something that is also super cool: when you play spaceship levels player two gets their own spaceship that you would never see in the game if you haven't played it in multiplayer. It's a cool little detail!
There was a commercial that showed off character creation and it had "Darth Threepio" in it, that's probably why so many people, including myself, used to give him a red lightsaber

This version of the game was the very first game I every fully completed. A month ago I got my DS back from my grandparents after about 8 years with it missing apparently it was in the back of the truck before they sold it for that long. My curiosity kicked in and I booted the DS up again with the Complete Saga that I kept. And it actually WORKED. I played thru the game for a bit and felt like a child again it was wonderful. My DS now sits I'm my game console display along with my 360 and Wii.
Brings back memories, still remember using Jango Fett to infinitely jump out of maps or skip through some levels

i recently played TCS on XBOX live 100% with my brother and i’ll tell you what, it was the best experience ever and we lagged and the lag adds SOOOO many of the funnest bugs and occurrences i’ve ever seen! sometimes battle droids would spam fire a crazy barrage of blaster shots at you that were basically not blockable but hilarious
So no one noticed the gun he had for the sponsor was a masterpiece Megatron? Anyway, you should cover the other lego Star Wars games sometime. I have so many memories of them.
I remember playing the hell out of this game as a kid, my uncle showed me how to activate debug mode and unlock everything. I used to have so much fun messing around in free play mode lol.

I was a Lego Indiana Jones kid, my friend had complete saga though. We would often lend each other our games and I had the chance to play through this. Loved it then, love it now

I had the first two Lego Starwars games on the PlayStation, but when TCS came out, idk what compelled me to but I really wanted it on the DS, so I got it for that over the other options. Gotta say, didn’t disappoint even for being a watered down portable version
Lego Star Wars TCS on the DS was my very first video game. I remember free playing all the levels with the Force Ghosts for what must of been hundreds of times. And that Cantina Band glitch sound effect unlocked some memories I forgot I had
i love it so much, portable lego star wars is something i’ll forever hold dear to my heart, always brings out my inner child while playing :)
I grew up with the first ps2 Lego star wars and many years later I came across this DS version and it blew my mind how it was literally the console version! Definitely one of my favorite DS games!
I also used to play this game so much and I found a way cooler Glitch where you can fly invinetly high with the Jetpack of Boba or Jango

my favorite thing to do in this game was the general grievous bike mini game with the touchscreen as a controller with circles! i played it so much with my niece back in the day !
18:20 That was probably an unintentional Easter egg by the developers since the original game released before Revenge of the Sith came out. They were probably provided a mostly complete version of the movie with the scene in it or the scene was cut too close to release date for the game. That’s also why the music theme Battle of the Heroes was not included in the game as it was unfinished at the time.

Oh boy the nostalgia is strong on this one. I played more of the Wii version and don’t remember some of the touch screen gimmicks but the one thing I do remember was the download play multiplayer. I’d play that multiplayer with my sister all the time. Iirc it was a bounty hunter mode where you fight the other person in a third person shooter like game. I know this was definitely in Lego Star Wars 2 DS but i don’t remember if it was brought back for Complete Saga as I oddly played more of 2 than Complete Saga on the DS. I could also be remembering this wrong cause I swear there was a minigame of sorts where you could play as Grievous in his bike or Obi Wan on that lizard thing but I could not find anything on it online.

It was both sad and a privilege how this was my lego star wars as a kid.
This was an amazingly in-depth look back at what in hindsight is a really good port! Really appreciate how analytical it was, and I look forward to part 2!
Incidentally, I think you’re onto something with the different Jedi/Sith having different lightsaber attributes; I remember Ki-Adi-Mundi, Shaak Ti, etc. all having unique animations (they all use Obi-Wan’s animations in the console versions)

I played Lego Star Wars 1, and 2 on PS2. Then I played TCS on the Ds so def memory lane, played clone wars on 3ds, played force awakens on PC, and now I've preordered and overly hyped for the Skywalker saga.
Edit: I also purchased lsw 1&2 for the Gameboy advance about a year ago as well. Honestly might as well just get every version at this point.

All things considered, playing both this version and the Wii version at the same time, I’m shocked they managed to shove almost the exact same game into a ds. The only major difference I can think of off the top of my head is the vehicle levels, specifically the top down version of the Coruscant level in EP 3

Backstory: I got this game after a random kid dropped it and other games at an airport, I couldn’t find the kid so I grew up playing Lego Star wars

It's a bit weird how this was the only Lego game on the DS to take this approach at adapting the console version. All of the others changed how the game works, whether just changing what abilities exist (Indiana Jones) or going as far as changing the way the game is played entirely (Harry Potter Years 1-4). Even the relatively lesser changed games besides this one have wildly different set pieces and character abilities to keep track of.
Another thing I noticed while playing this game recently is the cutscenes. Unlike Indiana Jones, which just compressed the console version's cutscenes to fit a DS cartridge, here the cutscenes were recreated by doing what looks like moving a bunch of PNGs around to simulate motion. It's almost like the devs made a bunch of little slideshows with really limited animation to fit them on the cartridge without them being really ugly.
