- In this episode, Dubious takes a look at the infamous port of Lego Star Wars II for the Nintendo DS.
Does it hold it's weight today? Or did it even hold it back when it was first released?

I have no idea what triggered this, but as a kid sometimes I could take control of characters during cutscenes. I would kill the other characters and end up soft locking the game. So much similar shit like that in this game. I hadnt ever owned a truly bad video game as a kid before this one, I could say that this game introduced me to disapointment in some ways
To trigger this, you tap the icon (during Free Play) and then keep tapping it while pressing the direction you want to go on the D-pad. If you want to fully move around, pause the game, go to extras, enable an extra that will make the screen go black and reset the game, and then start moving around! If you use the Emperor and shock the characters, the game will crash.
I softlocked by somehow becoming the millennium falcon in the cantina
Ohhh yeah I remember this as well! It was my favourite during the end cutscene of episode 4. I then used to kill everyone.

This game is one of the few games I’ve ever come close to 100%, except for the fact that that the second level on Hoth was glitches and a minikit wouldn’t spawn. So infuriating as a kid

The greatest thing for me as a kid was, that in the Sarlac Level you could glitch your characters into sliding infinitely on the edge of the ship for long enough, so that after your death you would spawn back on the edge, unable to move, doomed to die. So you just had to restart the entire game...

The Complete Saga on DS is impressive but it's annoying how I gotta use the touch screen to interact with things faster.
i had this game as a kid and i know another glitch, i don't remember how it is dome but you can control and kill the characters in the crappy cutscenes while the camera is fixated in one spot, it crashes the game
I remember a glitch that occurred in the final level, the one where you fight the Emperor. There's a Minikit in the level that I couldn't access despite using the Minikit Detector cheat to show me where it was, thus, making the game impossible to 100% complete. There are countless other glitches that I vaguely remember from the game, but I decided to share this one because it stood out to me the most.
At least the character creator was pretty fun.

If I'm not mistaken, you had to switch characters during a cutscene. Or use the customization menu.
You forgot to mention the unholy void that is "Sandbox mode"
When I was like 5 I didn't realize sandbox mode was just for fucking around so I'd spend hours thinking that was a valid level and getting mad because I couldn't complete it

It's so...Empty. Where the heck are the 10 Minikits anyways?
I mean, I don’t think there’s much fucking around to do in this level. You can’t play as anyone but crumb and slave Leia which is limiting not just on characters but gameplay as well. There’s no force no double jump no zip lines, you don’t even have a weapon. And any objects of interest are so far away that most of the gameplay is running in an empty desert. It’s like a fever dream

This game has to be the most broken handheld game I have ever seen. This game can give Sonic 06, Fallout 76, and Tony Hawk's pro skater 5 a run for their money.

Honestly i never had any glitch problemos i can remember but then again it has been a long time plus i was mostly rushing the story. The only glitch i remember was a softlock in jabbas palace (i think?)

I remember I had this game for the second time after I lost my first one. I finally got to the emperor fight and the battle glitched out and I could never complete it

I remember 2 massive glitches with this game: with one of them I fell into a pit on the death star that didn't kill me but just trapped me. Then there was the one where the slippery floor extra got locked on (platforming was impossible).

Holy shit dude, reading this kinda gives me realive. I somehow locked the slippery floor extra on and never managed to change it back. That way I was lowkey stuck on Endor for ever..
@@johnnyjpg randomly I was able to turn it off around a month later. But by that point I never tried to play the story mode again and only played the game for the multiplayer.

@@johnnyjpg I never had Lego Star Wars 2 but I had the Complete Saga on the DS and I remember experiencing almost a similar glitch with the void trap
When I played, I remember multiple bugs.
If you enter a level starting door, pick freeplay and leave, you'll have the freeplay character menu in the cantina, therefore letting you switch to all characters as you please.
The Sarlacc pit level had no background. It was just completely black. I thought that was how they designed it.
At the end of the game, if you force choke Palpatine while he's floating in the middle of the room, he won't lose hearts, but he'll continue to float up but not back down. Basically, he'll ascend off screen, making it impossible to damage him, forcing you to restart.
Shit on this game all you want but i dont remember the xbox version having pink stormtrooper mode
What I think is interesting is that I’ve played the DS and console versions of Lego Starwars, Lego Batman, and Lego Indiana Jones, which we’re all developed by Tt. While the Console versions are objectively better, and I’ve had fun replaying them, the DS versions fill me with a colossal wave of Nostalgia. I’ve lost both the DS versions of Batman and Starwars II, and what I would do to have them back. DS games are so nostalgic to me. The Lego games, a game called Zubo, and the Pokémon games are just so fun to me.

I remember playing this before I knew what RUclips was, so I guess that I can say completing this mess without any help is somewhat of an achievement for me. I think it was the game's unintentionally bleak and at times even unsettling atmosphere that had me compelled to play it for so long.
Good times when the DS was the most advanced piece of tech that I owned lol. This video made me super nostalgic.
Honestly. It took me so long trying to beat the Endor puzzle level. It felt so good when I did, though.

I always though that this game was really buggy on ds and I remember I could never get the level where you fight Darth Vader in episode 5 to work correctly

That happend for me too. It was random if you could access the door or not. If not, you had to restart the level.
You had to use both r2d2 and Luke to open the door in cloud city I didn’t know you had to use r2d2 until 5 years having this game

I remember being about 8 playing it alone. I had turned on multiplayer to see if anyone would join my game and it appeared that someone had. I remember being shocked by this since there wasn't anyone around (that I knew about). Their character looked like a droid with a yellow happy Lego head, I was shook. I remember turning that game off instantly and not playing it after that point.
My first DS game ever. Even with its flaws, it still holds a place in my heart.
You could also play as Jango and Boba Fett in the vs multiplayer. Their jetpacks gave you insane mobility that basically made them broken vs everyone else.
the second endor level had some swinging platforms that never spawned in my copy, leaving the game incompletable

What happened
As a kid, I guess I knew what I was doing since I got past parts of the levels that other people would’ve gotten stuck at.
But my GOD was the game buggy as shit, I figured out during the rancor fight a cutscene was supposed to play after beating it, it didn’t.
And that end cutscene is truly horrific to watch, that didn’t even bother removing the force-light affect thingy.
But, this game did give good memories. Looking back now, the game is so shit-
I will NOT go to sleep

I remember when I used to go to daycare I would play multi player with the other kids my game was hacked I had all the characters without all the levels done
I remember when I tried to play this on many car rides, and one thing that infuriated me was how it was frequently impossible to complete the last Empire Strikes Back level; Sometimes, doors just wouldn't open when you walked towards them. I did like the extras options for the camera views and so on, but that was about it. I also got it to soft lock during some cutscenes and at least once, I got a speeder to clip out of bounds. Needless to say, I preferred the Wii version

I remember getting this for christmas. I had so much fun trying to find bugs, I remember doing that vehicle glitch as well but playing normal character levels as vehicles (not like you could even get too far). I also remember getting stuck on that abysmal endor level, where you have to jump across the swinging logs on the ewok tree top villages. That and there was random level where you were walking around tatooine as leia and salacious crumb I think, and you could pull switches to turn into a huge upscaled version of your character for some reason but there was no way to beat the level. Shit, I really want to play it again now, thanks for the nostalgia

This was one of my 2 DS games, the other being Mario Kart DS, but I absolutely loved it. Might need to revisit it someday

Holy shit I LOVED this game! I remember getting absolutely furious because it was so buggy that some levels were very very difficult to beat because of such. There were also tons of really funny bugs that I figured out too.

@@DubiousD LEGO Star Wars: TCS on the DS is one of the most beautiful looking DS games ever.
So... I played this game when I was young, and to this day (how crappy the game actually is) I find this to be one hell of an enjoyable game. I really liked the way they handled the character creator with the drag and drop system. And I feel like the many glitches you can discover is one of the reasons why I do still enjoy playing it from time to time. That aside though, I was literally not able to complete the game with 100%. Not because I never actually tried, but because my copy of the game is impossible to complete, as:
1. The endor speeder level should contain 10 collectible minikits, through which you unlock the AT-ST walker, but one of the minikits is literally unreachable (even when you look for it with the minikit detector, it points you to a wall between 2 level sections), which means I can never unlock the AT-ST walker without cheat codes.
2. The final level, where you have to fight darth sidious, will never unlock free play. No matter how many times I play the level that comes before the final battle, the level in the middle of the hall of the final episode just always keeps saying ????, and cannot be accessed.
Some other things I experienced in the game, I always wondered if other people also experienced (glitches and such):
1. Unlocking the "wacky blasters" extra from the cantina shop doesn't actually do anything when I purchase it. It was until I used cheat codes that I found out that there is a wide variety of weird weapons you should be able to use in the custom character creator such as: A walky talky, a mug, the wacky blaster from the icon (which you see when purchasing the extra), a broom, and many coloured lightsabers like the black, white, pink, and rainbow lightsaber.
2. clonetrooper346 might have mentioned what I am trying to say as well (earlier in the comments), but I once had a character walking around in the cantina that surpassed all of the laws the game has around custom character creation with a droid body. It had the classic lego head, body of IG-88 (droid body), a red cap, a red cape, and was holding a rainbow lightsaber. His icon was a zoomed in version of a yellow smiling LEGO head with what I suppose was 2 letters above it. Let me make this clear about the rules of custom characters: The droid body cannot use a lightsaber (as it would literally clip through his sideways hand), nor can it wear a cape (while I don't know why they made this choice). I haven't seen that chacter ever since that one encounter.
3. I find it funny how some game mechanics just don't make any sense. For example: The Han Solo leg parts give your charcter the ability to do a combat roll (dengar can also do this), after which you can shoot a burst of bullets. The game also has a version of Luke when he was training with Yoda, but this charcter also has the Han Solo pants. This gives him the ability to do a combat roll with a lightsaber, and literally FIRE BULLETS out of his lightsaber handle when he finishes the roll. This is not limited to this character though, since the game treats spears and other melee weapons like lightsabers as well, you can do this with those items as well on a custom character.
4. This glitch I found just by mere chance: when you create a character with the droid body (I know, this body again), you cannot use heads that change the shape of the character's body (like chewbacca's head, and a gamorrian guard's head). These heads will be locked when you have the droid body on your charcter, but when you save a character and re-enter the character creator, any heads that were locked and are visible on the first page of the editor menu, will not have this lock on them. Since chewbacca's head is on the first page, you can actually select his head and put it on the body. What happens next is that the body will turn into the shape that a regular body piece would with the chewbacca head, but with a weird glitchy texture on it. His animations are just like when he usually would have on a normal body (so not the droid animations), but when you hold fire to activate the special fire ability the droid body has, he transforms into a chubby droid as long as you keep holding fire. It is really worth trying out.
Somewhat of a long comment, but I had so much fun playing this game, I had to share some of my experiences

I grew up with Lego Star Wars II on the DS. My favourite memory from elementary school was when I was playing the Bespin level and people were crowding around me to watch.
Sadly, my DS (or at least the game copy) is broken now, so I’ll never get to experience those great moments again.

The PSP version is the best portable version.
It has good graphics, better cutscenes, much better sound, the music sound right, better camera, exclusive levels.
This was the case with most PSP games - although it makes them less interesting as retrospectives which is a shame because the PSP is a system I'd love to cover more

When you would enter a level player 2 would be randomly selected, including from characters you couldn't select normally, jabba and rancor. You could then switch to them
The thing I remember the most from this game was that weird jabba sails hip level with that space slug and giant ewok. Still no idea what that was about
I played this as a kid and during the mission on hoth with leia and Han I encountered some CRAZY glitches , there’s a long hallway you have to run through at one point and everytime I played it there was a chance that the camera would be locked and I would see behind the walls of that hallway, in the walls were death sideous looking mini figures around fires and just various LEGO characters in pieces and shit, the strangest thing about it becusse I was like 6 is that I thought this was normal, I was like “YES THIS IS VIDEOGAME” I’m super glad someone has found the same problems I did as a kid lmao

lol i had the complete saga one it wasnt broken but so funny but apparent that tt games worked hard to put as much stuff in the console game and what was asked for in such a hard platform to work with they did there best with making something so good for what they could do evidence flash,animation ,graphics still an amazing game

I remember playing the crap out of this game when I was little. I tried going for 100% but there was an invisible mini kit on the speeder bike level that I couldn't obtain. I was using the radar and everything and it just wouldn't appear in the spot it said it was supposed to.
Other than that, I found it funny that using the Emperor's lighting abilities in the Cantina (or anywhere really) crashed the game.

I remember a glitch that occurred a few times for me. In the level where obi dies,there was a pitfall near the end. Sometimes,you’d fall in and not die,trapping u in a dark pit
the fight against The Emperor had the most rage inducing Glitch for me, every time he Shocks you. the Game always Crashes

I think Lego Star Wars II for the DS was my first ever video game, so I kinda remember its chaotically broken aspects with a kind of fond nostalgia. xD
I remember this. Of the giant wealth of Star Wars music the ending of Empire Strikes Back is the only song that plays throughout the game.
Return of the Jedi was straight up impossible to beat, because there's a log you needed to jump on and you just fell through the log everytime.
You should play the GBA version. I played that one a lot in my childhood.

The Sandbox mode always managed to creep me out as a kid. It was so empty and confusing... and since I was new to games I had no idea what the sandbox was even for, or how to collect the minikits in it. Did they even put those minikits in the sandbox? I have so many questions yet there are so few answers on the web.
Even though this game was a huge part of my childhood there's very little info on it!
Memorable glitches or problems:
-falling into the huge pit in the Episode 4 Death Star level in free play mode, and not dying or being able to climb out. This required a restart.
-Missing a minikit in the same level, not sure how but it wouldn't spawn in free play mode
-also the Endor level (non vehicle) also had its own set of glitches or oddities
-Final duel with the Emperor having glitches, sometimes freezing, and also missing a minikit in free play.
I had to use cheat codes to unlock the missing bounty hunters, and the game would also freeze a LOT during single card multiplayer depending on the bounty hunters used. Sadly Greedo was the only available hunter for other players there too.
There were probably more but the custom characters and all the fun extra modes made up for it. Haunted masterpiece.
The complete saga has its fair share of glitches too the complete saga had the infinite jump Jar Jar glitch but I don't know if anyone has discovered it yet besides me and my friends

Man... As a kid I loved the DS version of this game probably because I didn't have it on console but still it was my 2nd favorite game on the DS. But looking at it know as an adult it seems like a cheaper version of the console one just to capitalize on a portable console because of the success the original console one had.
I remember playing a level on Endor on my DS and my character got stuck between a tree and some random branch or something and I couldn’t jump off to respawn. I couldn’t reload the level either so my game was officially broken as whenever I quit and loaded it up again, it would continue from that same position. God I hated my life.
Early Lego Star Wars was a different Era
Glad I wasn’t the only one where LEGO Star Wars 2 was so broken, for me, I feel like the camera on the Kashyyyk level was broken, because the camera was so far away, that trying to do the log jumps was so annoying, it would make me rage so much as a kid.
TCS on DS had a completely different hoth battle, it was top down. It seems other levels were different too including some of the normal levels
Also I just remembered that the console version of Lego Marvel Superheroes 1 had the playing as vehicles glitch as well, I was able to pull it off, but after the final patch (which was a year or two ago) it was patched
All I can say is I remember watching your five nights at fuckboy's series back when that came out, and this game was a minor but memorable presence in my childhood, so when this showed up in my recommendations I was pleasantly surprised to see the channel name lol. Proud of you man

I remember I was able to play as some of the smaller ships in the cantina. You just walked to a level, tapped free play so the selection comes up on the bottom screen, and jump away from the door. Then you could choose some ships. Pretty sure I had to delete a few save files because I got stuck as a speeder in the cantina and couldn't change back
I remember having that game as a kid I remembered that in free play mode you could move around in the cut scenes by spamming the button to change characters while using a direction, I remember pushing Darth Vader off of the scaffolding in cloud city during the Empire strikes back level.
Another glitch with ships:
In echo base, and I imagine some other levels too, it's possible for the free play menu to let you pick a ship instead of a character, and your end up completely stuck in the first room of the level because ships are so much bigger than characters.
I also found this as a child.
Plus that softlock where you can destroy obstacles you're required to jump on to complete jabba's palace

For my 12th birthday I got two games; Pokemon Ranger 1, and Lego Star Wars 2. Let me tell you, realizing I could get to the final boss in Ranger with some difficulty was nice, while I could not get out of THE FIRST LEVEL of Lego Star Wars, was one of those days I look back on as the beginning of my realization that games were NOT equal. There was good, and there was trash.

I remember this game! I used to play as a ship in the lobby, and forget to save... I also remember the episode 6 level where you play as Luke in the sky level was *super* broken
I remember getting stuck in the Endor level. Never could get past it, it was the part where R2D2 was opening a door and he got shot and then he died and never came back
In the intro you played the GBA version of the Star Wars Theme and not the DS
@Toxic If you listen closely, the audio is a lot more compressed. Listen to the GBA version and the DS version side by side
The Sandbox Bonus Level gave me an idea that maybe this game was a bit rushed...
There was a section in the first Death Star level where you could fall down a pit and couldn’t get out without re starting the level, always used to cause me to rage when I was 8
I remember playing this as a kid and getting lost one one of the Endor levels, I ended up in a weird area in the Ewok village with an AT-ST and lots of coloured bricks, but no enemies and (apparently) no way out other than quitting and starting the level again. I tried really hard to get back to that area but I could never find it again, it was like I'd somehow managed to glitch myself into a developer testing area or something
I remember this as a kid, it was so glitchy! I enjoyed it because it was Star Wars, but it could be a very annoying game.
I remember if you played the Emperor and used lightning on characters, their models would swap back and forth between them and a skeleton.
Doing this on the little laughing creature that was by Jabba would crash the game the moment the model would swap, the frame would freeze and the last tone of the music would drone on as the lightning sound effect would continue.
I remember having this game, and I specifically remember that if you're in the cantina hub playing as palpatine and you force lightning salacious crumb the game will just crash.
This was my first LEGO Star Wars game. I then moved on to the Complete Saga and loved it. I'd like to play this one again for nostalgia
I have really fond memories of this version of the game as a Kid but my goodness is it broken.

Damn I am getting some wild nostalgia from this tho, seeing the intro with the logos and that level with the laser room blew my mind omg. More connection to this than TCS, as I didn't have that on my wii and only played it at friends houses.
