I think a good way to get around the ‘jet pack ruining open world’ issue would be to make an infinite jetpack cheat that would be super expensive so it could only be accessible in the endgame.
I see one issue with this otherwise perfectly logical and scientific approach. The character you used the most, the first order jet trooper, similar to many other characters, has a functioning rocket propelled weapon capable of accelerating mass further and faster than the jetpack they also wield. This leads me to believe that in fact the jetpack design itself is flawed in some manner. Therefore we should be lobbying to return to the old jetpack model reminiscent of a scuba diver's oxygen tank

Yeah, because he’s not a Jedi or a sith, but really come on? Did u really have to treat him like just any other villian. He’s clearly special and should have either like a special class or just an exempt from the class rules in some cases
I was in mustafar and tried to use the jet pack to glide over to a platform and just fell in 2 seconds. Such a disappointment I loved using them in the original to go around but now I can’t so if I want to go around I have to just keep using the force to move my teammate and switching them. They should implement different jet pack types for different characters. Jet troopers could go vertically but with little horizontal movement whilst someone like Jango could have horizontal distance instead.
I was amazed how this went from a well put together video about a serious gripe with the game design, to an overly complex breakdown of the chemical makeup of various plastics, rocket design, and how turning on the big-head mod will save jetpacks in the future so seamlessly I almost didn't notice. Btw, congrats on 1M subs.
I remember when I first tried out the jetpacks in this game and was greatly disappointed with how short the duration is, but honestly after playing with them for a few hours and getting to know how they worked I adapted and now they're unironically one of the most useful things for me in regards to open world exploration. I've found that when you fully upgrade your running speed, all the momentum that you gather while running carries over when you're flying with the jetpack. So if there's a far jump that isn't too ridiculous, I'll get a good running start first then tap the jetpack in mid air a few times until I reach said platform. Too far away however then you'll need to full send it but with the momentum gathered from running I've been able to clear surprisingly large gaps. As for vertical height, I find that if you want to clear a high fence or wall for example then you really have to get as much height as possible out of your initial double jump before fully boosting with the jetpack and you can actually get some good height out of it. The only thing that really sucks for me personally is that they didn't have The Mandalorian a jetpack even though he's barely ever seen without his after season 1.
There are three ways I think the jetpacks could have been fixed : 1. make it a permanent Hover with a specific height above the ground, this would still be pretty bad but at least cool. 2 ; Upgrades that allow the jetpack to fly higher/longer/faster. 3 ; a expensive extra that would fix the jetpack by making The same as 2.
Jets packs are actually pretty good for a low level player. As soon as I got Jango fett from attack of the clones I was able to get to alot of places I shouldn't have been able to especially since Jango has a grapple with a jet pack

I'm not sure if you're aware, but if you tap the jump button after an initial jump instead of holding it, and then hold the button after, you can effectively use the jetpack to give yourself a triple jump that also lets you move in a straight line after for a short period. I was messing around with this and found it to be extremely useful for navigating the free roam, especially when trying to boost myself *up*. I like to think about it like how yoshi can flutter in several 2d mario games; that's what the jetpacks feel like with a double jump. I actually am not disappointed at all with how jetpacks work after this revelation; they're unparalleled in vertical movement and are great for an extra boost in horizontal movement across agap. TLDR: You can triple jump with jetpacks by tapping the jump button twice and then holding it and it's actually pretty useful.
There was a Kyber Brick on Cloud City "Dark Cloud" where you had to jump up on ledges, and a series of moving platforms then you walk along the wall and had to go around the pillars to reach the Kyber Brick. While Double Jumping can work if you time it right. Instead of doing that I used a Boba Fett to get across each pillar to reach the Kyber Brick . There were very few reasons to use any jetpack Lego Character. Infact its sad how an EWOK with a glider is 10x better than the Jetpack on a Bounty Hunter.
There’s a lot a like about the game and there’s also a lot that I would either change or just leave out. I’m kinda of frustrated about how easy the game is. The easiness of the game can make it boring sometimes, especially if you’re trying to 100% all collectibles. It’s just strange, spending 100+ hours on one of the hardest games of all time (elden ring), and then going to play a children’s game is definitely a huge difference lol

Never seen this channel before, but 10/10 vid. Informative, well structured argument for game design, as well as a humorous take on it
I have to disagree with your take on jetpacks. I've completed The Skywalker Saga with my main free roam character being Jango Fett. I chose him because of course it's freaking Jango Fett, but also because he has jetpack + GRAPPLE. You don't realize how op this is. This combo allowed me to just skip most of the parkours that usually needs an acrobatic character to complete. Also the jetpack isn't as usless as you make it out to be. You definitelly can go higher than normal double jump but i must say the steering when you don't want to go in one direction is horrible. Nevertheless, I collected most of the 'suspended mid air' kyber bricks by just climbing a nearby rock or breakable crate and just flied up to it. But shame on TT for not giving my boy R2D2 the abillity to fly. tl;dr Jetpack + Grapple is op, R2D2 with no jetpack is *yoda death sound* Also great video, can't wait for the least studs run.
Gliding is a slope downwards while the jetpack is a straight line, still not a good excuse Plus, you could just have the glider as is, with the expenses of height, you have a larger distance
@@deathpie24 yeah it’s lame none of the “jet pack characters” can no longer fly indefinitely. But they had to make something different. Now they can advertise as all new powers while destroying some characters. And don’t get me started on the blaster and net. They should be stand alone specials.
I feel like they made every character less fun than they could have been, and they tried to hard to make the characters feel near identical to other characters in the same class.
I…I’m speechless. I came here to watch a critique of a video game that was missing a vital asset and it turned into an advanced science lesson. I am unexpectedly pleased.
Man did so much research and spit so much facts about science and rocket power, just to say that the jet pack system in A LEGO game is bad. Mad respect ✊
I was definitely disappointed when I saw how gutted the jetpack was in this game but it was still a lifesaver in some moments, when combined with the grappling hook feature it made most puzzles in the game a very simple task. I feel the decision was fair however considering how quickly you can gain access to a jetpack character.
Fun fact, in the original lego Star Wars game (the original release which only included the prequel trilogy) Jango Fett had infinite jetpack fuel, and could move while flying for as long as the player wanted. Unfortunately, a good amount of long gaps over pitfalls were specially coded to cause the Jetpack to fall despite the thrusters still being active. This was most likely to ensure that players did not explore out of bounds or skip puzzles. The difference becomes more interesting in this game when you compare Jangos jetpack to Astromech hovering, which is based entirely on hover duration, rather than specially placed trigger zones that cause the Jetpack to fall.
You mention them not wanting people to shortcut certain lumber bricks with jet packs - but the amount of times I’ve shortcutted a scavenger climbing wall just by jumping on the geometry...
Why do I get the feeling the only reason Astromech’s were nerfed is because BB-8 doesn’t have thruster capabilities? If so they really could’ve given him special quirks like possibly being able to activate other character class terminals in some way.
Fun fact : unlike all other Astromechs BB-8 and BB-9E are capable of going through the small Protcol droid part ducts(our whatever you call them), making them actually better than all other astromechs. In conclusion, they didn’t give the astromechs thrusters because they wanted BB-8 and BB-9E better than all Astromechs.
the quality of this video is really good and its very engaging. i would compare it to a game theory video and im very impressed. most videos on youtube are garbage now but its clear youve put a lot of effort into your work
For real though, the reason the jet packs are gutted in this game is because of the character class system. Personally, I am a defender of the character classes in the game because previous Lego games had the flaw of many characters being borderline useless because there are characters with more abilities than everyone else and some characters with almost no abilities worth using. The character class system in LSS makes sure that each character is equally useful, at the cost of less abilities overall. Back to the point, because they're putting characters like BB-8 into the same character class as R2D2, basic Stormtroopers in the same class as the flametroopers and Boba Fett and Bossk in the same class. It's either give BB8 and Bossk the ability to fly somehow or nerf/remove R2/Boba's ability to fly. Or, third option, make a new class for characters who can fly, but that'd come with its own set of issues like adding more Kyber Bricks for that skill tree, and even then, Scavenger's basically have it covered anyway. Basically, while the jetpacks have been nerfed in this game, considering that the game was never built with it in mind, the fact that some characters even float is good enough.
Finn: "They fly now?!"
Poe: "They... well, they don't fly now. They just briefly hover"
And yet somehow Rey, wicket and every other scavenger can make a better jetpack then the first/final order and the fetts.

Yeah, because he’s not a Jedi or a sith, but really come on? Did u really have to treat him like just any other villian. He’s clearly special and should have either like a special class or just an exempt from the class rules in some cases
It is like that for most free play characters but is very inconsistent it only happens in some of the fights
Come back. We need you
Bro you went from talking about jetpacks to testing brick density and the video suddenly felt like satire.. this is great to watch while stoned
Come back... its been a year...
"Re-telling the 6 main Movies, and the Recent Fan made spin-off ones"
He gotta do The Sequel Trilogy like that Lmao
Where have you gone 😢😢😢
“A fun retelling of all 6 mainline films, and 3 fan made spin offs” I don’t know you but man I love you for that
Jets packs are actually pretty good for a low level player. As soon as I got Jango fett from attack of the clones I was able to get to alot of places I shouldn't have been able to especially since Jango has a grapple with a jet pack
The people need your return
Hope youre doing good, my man, great vid
I just watched a 12 minute video understanding the science behind Lego Jetpacks
This is the exact opposite of how jetpacks should work in games.
Reminds me of the jetpacks in Lego Movie 2 Video Game had a really weak jetpack, but was barely better than Skywalker Saga's jetpack.
@@Oyebadumn I think so far the best jetpack we have so far in a LEGO is the ones in the previous LEGO Star Wars Games and the one from LEGO city undercover
@@ComiccollectorGamer What about the Lego Marvel and DC games' flight?
@@Protosilver97 yeah but those aren’t technically jet packs iron man has a suit powered by the arc Reactor the only one of the one with a Jetpack is the jokers from Batman the animated series DLC
@@ComiccollectorGamer batman can use a jetpack in lego batman 3 byond gotham it worked as limmited flight but you can turn it unlimited with a red brick
Legend I hope you are doing fine
There was a Kyber Brick on Cloud City "Dark Cloud" where you had to jump up on ledges, and a series of moving platforms then you walk along the wall and had to go around the pillars to reach the Kyber Brick. While Double Jumping can work if you time it right.
Instead of doing that I used a Boba Fett to get across each pillar to reach the Kyber Brick .
There were very few reasons to use any jetpack Lego Character. Infact its sad how an EWOK with a glider is 10x better than the Jetpack on a Bounty Hunter.
I found if you jump and use the jetpack at the right time you can skip some final parts of puzzles. I use boba alot while collecting bricks
I love the fact that this video begins as a simple lego star wars video and ends as a physics lesson
You can actually jump higher with jetpacks you have to press jump once, then tap jump and then hold it to hover. This gives you effectively 2,5 Jumps
Bro my chemistry degree came in handy in a Lego Star wars video what are the chances
Please come back:(
it's funny how this video is meant to be about Lego Star wars jet packs, but it's just about the science of Lego games
Jesus, man!
It's midnight, I just spent three hours playing No Man's Sky, and when "Supermoon" kicked in at 9:32 I straight up thought I was having auditory hallucinations!
But shame on TT for not giving my boy R2D2 the abillity to fly.
tl;dr Jetpack + Grapple is op, R2D2 with no jetpack is *yoda death sound*
Also great video, can't wait for the least studs run.
the funny part is dying as Boba and he sometimes goes "Don't tell me it was the jetpack again" knowing damn well it was
I feel like this is accurate, I heard the in universe Lego engineers took about 50 years to invent refrigerators.
“All six mainline films plus the three fan made spin-offs” You’ve earnt a sub just for that my man 😂
They nerfed it so you can use the scavenger legos powers
Gliding is a slope downwards while the jetpack is a straight line, still not a good excuse
Plus, you could just have the glider as is, with the expenses of height, you have a larger distance
@@deathpie24 yeah it’s lame none of the “jet pack characters” can no longer fly indefinitely. But they had to make something different. Now they can advertise as all new powers while destroying some characters. And don’t get me started on the blaster and net. They should be stand alone specials.
Counterpoint: boba and jango’s jet packs work just as well if not better than in the actual movies
Removing the old Jetpacks and Astromech Booster, is just a reason for the player to pick Rey ...
Nah, just pick wicket
0:16 Plus the 3 recent fan-made spin-offs lol i couldn’t stop laughing
I guess this channel is dead..
This is the most professional shitpost I’ve ever seen
the legend is finally back
I wish that boba fetts jetpack should be like the scavenger glider
Man did so much research and spit so much facts about science and rocket power, just to say that the jet pack system in A LEGO game is bad. Mad respect ✊
This video was so fire
funny, chill, super entertaining bro
You got my sub
6:38 “Not to mention they’re capable of sentience, something no real Lego brick has demonstrated *so far.”*
i’m scared
I was definitely disappointed when I saw how gutted the jetpack was in this game but it was still a lifesaver in some moments, when combined with the grappling hook feature it made most puzzles in the game a very simple task. I feel the decision was fair however considering how quickly you can gain access to a jetpack character.
I wish I could give you 100 likes for that dig on the Disney trilogy alone at the start.
Are you gonna be making a video where you try to best TSS without touching any studs I loved your original complete saga videos
I agreed at first but you started to run a rabbit at 5 mins 🤦🏾♂️😂
He started to get mostly satire by then
Fun fact, in the original lego Star Wars game (the original release which only included the prequel trilogy) Jango Fett had infinite jetpack fuel, and could move while flying for as long as the player wanted.
Nice to see you back good video
What I expected: Game design video
What I Got: Knowledge about rocket science and chemistry
“3 recent fan-made spin-offs” I love this line
You mention them not wanting people to shortcut certain lumber bricks with jet packs - but the amount of times I’ve shortcutted a scavenger climbing wall just by jumping on the geometry...
My man used chemistry and physics to explain lego jetpacks. Amazing
Only read the title and I can’t agree more
Love the 3 fan made spin off movies joke 😂
I clicked on this video expeting someone saying how bad the jetpacks are and I ended up on a science class
I love that little comment "fun retellings of all mainline films.. plus the three fan-made spinoffs." Exactly how I feel lol
”All six main films plus the three fanmade spinoffs”
Hahahha so true 😂
Why do I get the feeling the only reason Astromech’s were nerfed is because BB-8 doesn’t have thruster capabilities?
If so they really could’ve given him special quirks like possibly being able to activate other character class terminals in some way.
Fun fact : unlike all other Astromechs BB-8 and BB-9E are capable of going through the small Protcol droid part ducts(our whatever you call them), making them actually better than all other astromechs. In conclusion, they didn’t give the astromechs thrusters because they wanted BB-8 and BB-9E better than all Astromechs.
@@thatonedude6949 God forbid the sequel trilogy and all the new Star Wars content doesn’t eclipse the older stuff even in the LEGO games ya know?
And even bb8 has some uniqueness because he can fit small doors like c3po
“All the six mainline films. And the three resent fan made spin-offs” you said it my guy, you said it!
The retelling of the 6 main movies and 3 spin-offs 😂 that had me dying
the quality of this video is really good and its very engaging. i would compare it to a game theory video and im very impressed. most videos on youtube are garbage now but its clear youve put a lot of effort into your work
For real though, the reason the jet packs are gutted in this game is because of the character class system.
As someone who has always gotten attached to the jet pack characters I'm so thankful I'm not the only one who feels kinda empty at the jet packs
I just went to pick up a glass of water and suddenly the video change the format about gameplay to SCIENCE
Can’t wait for is it possible to beat LEGO Star Wars Skywalker saga without touching studs and how many press buttons are needed.
0:18 “Spin-offs” Agonizingly true 💀
Jumping grapple move is actually an intended feature. Hints mention it, as well as some NPCs you talk to tell you how useful it can be.
