Oh man, I just remembered a glitch with the DS version. When you're in the college hubworld, select a character with a whip and use it to attack someone. You have to make sure you only use the whip to attack since if you use your fists, it doesn't work. After you eventually kill your target, immediately switch over to them. Your character will be able to move but they'll float around and go through objects. If you leave the room and out into the main hall, everything would turn brown, red or green. I remember doing that all the time as a kid just to see the results lol
I remember this! It'd allow you to fall through the floor too if you did it right (I think it was walking into stairs). I remember seeing inside inaccessible rooms, and also way below the map there would be an inflatable raft just floating in the void
A damn, I discovered a very similar bug as a kid. Do the same thing, but instead of whipping punch the character to death and switch the exact moment the hit lands. You will die and respawn without a head.
Playing this game in wireless multiplayer, with both players using goofy ahh custom characters and beating the crap out of each other is the definitive gaming experience.
Remember playing this and Transformers: Deceptions. LEGO Indy was so fun. Having to blow into the DS to inflate a in game object was definitely weird though. Especially if you were doing it around people.
It’s been a while since I’ve last played the DS port, and it’s one of my favorites! And one of the few ports where I prefer the handheld over the console!
lol I remember when DS games would ask me to blow into the microphone I’d just move my finger over the mic slot for a second and it would trick the DS into thinking that I blew it. Definitely saved me some lung capacity as a child lmao
Very underrated content creator. Lego Indiana Jones was always one of my favorite Lego themes. I was always one of those weird kids that preferred Lego Indiana Jones 2 over the Original Adventures, as I found the open areas to be more fun. I remember havint these on the DS, and I was always disappointed it wasn't exactly like its console counterparts. Back then though, I didnt realize a tiny little handheld couldnt be as powerful as a gigantic box lol
Thanks! Indy 2 may be divisive, but the modern Lego games wouldn’t exist as they do without the things it tried, and I respect it so much (some of the best boss fights in the entire franchise, hands down). I’ll probably come back to Indy 2’s handheld port in a few videos.
This DS game was my intro to Indiana Jones. To this day, I hear the music in the films and my brain goes, "that's from Lego Indiana Jones!" I have a save with 113 hours logged, surprisingly not 100 percented (97.7%) I remember being so mad when I unlocked the clown and he had a shovel (which was my least favorite weapon.) Good times...
I still hear the DS Costa Rican jungle soundtrack playing in my head sometimes when I zone out. However there just doesn’t seem to be any trace of it on any kind of media unless you watch raiders of the lost ark where it plays for a short segment at the very beginning of the film.
Hey man, you definitely need to keep making videos on the LEGO DS Games. I came for the Assassin’s Creed, stayed for the Arkham, and a third rotating series would be really great!
Same. I legitimately miss that about gaming; “one” title could get you two, three, sometimes more dramatically different versions of a game depending on the system. Frankly, sometimes the “weaker” hardware would get you the better version!
This was the only version I ever played of lego indie and I loved it. But always found it odd that in the bottom screen tutorial text it would say to use my thumbs instead of a stylus to interact with the screen
I don't understand this game. I've been playing for maybe 20 minutes and I can't even figure out if I'm in a level or on some kind of hub world, and if I am, where the levels are. There's switches I don't know how to operate with no explanation, I don't know if they're for later or if I have to figure them out now, because there is no direction in this game. There's a shop and character creator and such, but if there's some kind of area like the theaters in Lego Star Wars that have numbers on them and lead to levels, they could have done a much better job of helping me find them. I'm giving up and I'll try the first one, I hope that's more conventionally laid out.
23:22 THATS WHERE I REMEMBER HAVING TO MAIL THE RED BRICK BACK!! In every Lego game since I was like “I am dreading having to nail the red brick back” but am relieved when I don’t have to and been wondering where I had to nail it
I remember having and playing the DS port of Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Batman and I remember just constantly going into the main area of this one and walking around and looking at stuff, and with the Batman one, literally replaying the same like 3 levels
DUUUUDE. This is the version I played in my childhood! And now I’m playing the console version and I was wondering why none of it felt nostalgic to me except for the cutscenes.
On the texture warping part at 18:12 I remember when I had this game as a kid one time I turned it on and every single texture in the game was corrupted and looked like pink vomit nightmare fuel.
Thanks for your support! My Brief-ish History videos have been some of my steadier content, but I've arranged several items on my home page to give a good look at variety here on the channel. I hope you enjoy whatever you select!
Oh, this brings back a ton of memories... this + TCS were my first DS games back when the DA Lite came out. My folks decided I was old enough to have video games at 6 years old, and these ports of Lego games were a fantastic introduction to gaming. Now I'm 22, and I still have that DS Lite + TCS :>
Holy Shit this is wild. first off fantastic video and I love seeing your reactions to the insanity that is the blowing function, but what's really weird is that Lego Indiana Jones for the DS was the first game I ever saved up the money for and bought. the amount of insane things I never quite realized until watching this video is baffling. In fact, for several year I had literally forgotten the enemies were nazis in the movies because I spent so much time as a kid playing the DS port and since it never came up, I just thought they were mean army guys. Why have I let Lego Indiana Jones on the DS affect me as much as it has. help me
You earned a new sub I like these game reviews people never do. Everyone hops on a trend and they play follow the leader. Keep being unique and the subs will flood in!
I remember having Indiana Jones 2 Lego game for the psp disc but I was 10 or younger and I had a GameCube and thought the disc looked like a GameCube disc so removed the disk out of the plastic cover and than remove the metal center piece and I quickly found out that psp game don't work real quick sad but at least I don't have a PSV or PSP at a time
Oh, I remember the DS port of Original Adventures. Think there was a oob glitch in the hub where if you hop onto the railing on the left stairs JUST right, you fall right through the hub level and hit a death plane. But not just a death plane, but one that presents you with the "Blow" prompt for making a raft or blowing out a torch I believe that they were planning on having another area for the hub because of this, and the fact that I discovered this as a kid was real cool imo.
Every so often on Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga on DS I would get a similar texture glitch to the one at 18:17 except it would be the WHOLE level that has screwed up textures. Definitely was very unsettling.
I definitely remember having this, seeing people show off the console version with the young indy bit missing from last crusade is always a bit weird. It's good to see a video talking about the DS ports as good and not just dismissing them as the weird handheld cousins of the console games, that they admittedly can be a lot of the time.
Lego Indy 2 on the DS is also a very interesting port. It's far different from the base version, and it's far better as a result. It focuses specifically on Crystal Skull instead of all four movies, and it instead covers the first three movies in the form of bonus minigames based on setpieces from the movies. It's honestly the definitive version of Indy 2 imo. There's a *lot lot* more I could go into about the DS version of Indy 2 but then this comment would be long enough to crash a computer from the sheer amount of data that would have to be processed.
26:06 Ah you mentioned it here. Yeah that's very strange to me. Original comment: It's so weird how Marion has brown hair in the mobile versions cutscenes. Makes me think these aren't just lower quality cutscenes from the console version but actually beta versions. I say this because old screenshots and promotional material with Marion had her with brown hair. (There's also versions of Lego Indy 2's cover with this inconsistency.) I assume it's because the actress DOES have brown hair but the brown for lego hair is way too bright to look right so they just used black in the end.
LEGO Indy is less weird when you consider that at this point, there have been 2.5 LEGO games, all Star Wars, and Indiana Jones is the other huge franchise made by George Lucas.
it's so weird, I see footage of this game and I just know I've seen it and played it but I can't remember it at all from my childhood... probably the Indiana Jones 2 memories overwrote them lol
I wonder if anyone else knows about the glitch where Indy can whip a gunned enemy to death at the college and switch to that same character after they die.
I remember when I was like 10 or so, I asked for Lego Indiana Jones 2 for Christmas, specifically the PSP version, since that was the only game device I owned that it was available for. When I actually played the game, it turned out that they had just ported the DS version over to PSP, presumably because of the same limitations that separated the DS versions of Lego Star Wars 2, Lego Indy 1, and Lego Batman from the console version. I didn't _hate_ the game, it was just different from what I expected. The story is only focused on the 4th movie though, all the content from the first 3 is restricted to unlockable characters and the extra minigames. I do remember one big issue I had with it though, and that's that I got stuck on the third level for a while. The reason why is because they gave Mutt the ability to climb certain walls and just... never bothered adding a pop-up like they did for other characters and their abilities. I had to Google it to figure it out. All in all, though, it was a fun game in its own way. And the clown is still in that one. For some reason.
I’ll be covering that one in a couple of videos, actually! What I find FASCINATING about the PSP ports are that the first game on PSP is actually the entire console game, and only the second one is the same as the DS.
@@BaneShake Yeah, I think that's the only Lego game for the PSP that wasn't just a direct port of the console version or at least close enough to it, which was weird to me at the time
This got put on my recommended page. While I sadly don’t have it anymore, I had the original Lego Indiana Jones on the DS, and absolutely loved it. This game was my childhood, and I wish I could play it again on the DS specifically.
I remember watching friends on the school bus playing this on their DS. When I played it for the first time on a hand-me-down Xbox 360 from my cousin, I said, "Why can't I turn into a monkey??"
This is the version I grew up with. I remember liking the touch screen involvement since child me thought the involvement was fitting for the feel of Indiana Jones
Tbh I think the DS ports were pressed on time for their creations. I think it’s because the console game would be put in production then the lesser DS port would be put in production after console’s announcement while both being released on the same date. Just a theory, but it can be seen in the lego Batman game. Having 24 missions to play through you can tell which ones have been pushed to the side during development. Heck you can’t even play free play on the Mr. Freeze level because Mr. Freeze is a locked character making it impossible to complete the level in free play. Along with the villain levels being shorter in general, while the hero levels can take ages to play through one. All I’m trying to say is I think they would be better games if they were given an extra month to get looked over
The mini games where you make the gross shit from Temple of Doom were particularly weird, mostly because you’re making the gross shit from Temple of Doom but you also get your heart torn out by Mola Ram if you mess up.
Oh man, so growing up i ONLY had the DS versions of LEGO games. So instead of the main console versions my friends had, I was only able to experience the wonderful glitchy joys of Star Wars Complete Saga and III Clone Wars, Indiana Jones 1 & 2, Batman, and Pirates of the Caribbean on the Nintendo DS. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, I still loved these games a lot, especially because full 3D games on the DS was rare. Though it’s funny, I remember liking Indiana Jones and Pirates more than Star Wars, even though Star Wars was objectively the most well liked LEGO game in general. Maybe because I liked the IJ and Pirates movies more than Star Wars, but ya. Fun memories
6:45 Through My Experience Of Playing Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures On The Nintendo DS, I Never Really Noticed The Slightly Smaller Heads. I Just Didn't.
25:21 I remember when I was a kid, playing this game and hadn't unlocked the clown yet, I imagined he would throw pie's at enemies. But I think that would be too creative for the developers. Good memories, as a kid, I didn't had any home consol, you must know, so I always got the DS ports of games I was interested in. But if you think that was weird, play the sequel on DS. I can't imagine how a developer can make just the basic ability of jumping to turn into the clunkiest movement ever.
15:52 In This Secret Level, I Stepped Into The Water On The Right And Nothing Happened... Until I Went Further Down And Died. But Lo And Behold, In LEGO Indiana Jones 2 On The Nintendo DS And PSP, You Can Finally Swim In The Water!
It was the last Lego game released for the system. Since 3DS and Vita ports were nearly identical, development costs weren’t “that much” more to keep releasing on Vita, and they could still pretty easily make their money back, even with Vita’s relatively low sales numbers
What's funny is I only ever played the DS versions of both LEGO Indy games. The console versions I never knew existed for whatever reason. The DS versions of all the lego titles have such a special place in my heart!
@@BaneShake Indeed! I even learned a few new things about them in this video. Props to you for shining more light on this underrated gem! Actually, any chance you'll be looking at the sequel?
This was my favorite game as a kid and I was so excited to get the ds version of lego Indy 2 and it was so confusing I couldn't figure it out because so much had changed between the games
I Remember as a Young Kid the DS Version of LEGO indiana Jones 2 Had a Slighty Increased Difficulty Level then Wii Version and It's More Close to the First Game in Terms of Hub
Honestly this game is a good one. I always loved how the cutscenes were actually used from the console released. Compared to Lego starwars TCS DS, which had some… odd cutscenes to say the least.
The Lego series on DS was so good as a kid. My favorite was Lego Star Wars 2, I remember grinding for the ships that you could check out in the hangar after each mission. Plus, it had a 4-Player Deathmatch mode which my brother and I played a lot, and you only needed 1 copy of the game!
This is a very solid look at a very interesting game... as a fan of Lego games, particularly Indiana Jones, I was always curious about the DS titles having never gotten the chance to play them. I finally have a copy but haven't played it yet, so I didn't know anything about it til today, and now I'm quite excited to get around to it. Again, this is a great video, good stuff!
Another difference that you forgot to mention : the level featuring young Indy. In the standard version, it is a bonus level to unlock while on the DS version, it's the first level of The Last Crusade.
lego indiana jones 1 for the wii was the first lego game i played, if you don’t count lego racers 1 and 2, and legoland (a rollercoaster tycoon esque game) (all for windows)
That Ram Guy really just farted himself to his demise into the funny plastic crocodile pit. I remember about that in the LEGO DS game when I played it all those years ago, only you pointing that out made me think about it again as I was starting to laugh at your disgruntled reaction. But I never thought the placeholder ? texture on the character though.
Weird, nah this is my childhood lego game, this game kicked ass, it was a beautiful masterpiece, this is the definitive lego game to me.
Don't worry! This one is wholeheartedly "weird" in the best possible way for these game. The good kind of "weird."
Same here! I still remember fighting my friends for hours without progressing one bit xD
Same this game was super fun. Gonna get it for my nephew
It was a lot of fun in 2 player co-op mode.
TRUE, i used to play this game every time i open my old ds, that feeling was one of my best in my entire childhood
Oh you think THIS is weird? Play the ds version of Lego Harry Potter
I have so much nostalgia playing this game on the PSP. Hidden gem in my opinion
I have. Its cool
Nah nah, Lego Star Wars DS is wacky
It's weird because they talk in text also has the console FMV, and it's chillingly fun
I used to play that on ipod touch lol

I think that was the first glitch I ever saw in a video game
I wonder if this'll work on an emulator
To ten year old me this felt like defying the laws of physics. Spooky in a way, but I also really enjoyed it :D

Along with the villain levels being shorter in general, while the hero levels can take ages to play through one.
All I’m trying to say is I think they would be better games if they were given an extra month to get looked over
Ive only ever played the ds version
And 100% it
Ive never played any other version
This was my second DS game. The first was Web of Shadows. Good games

Through My Experience Of Playing Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures On The Nintendo DS, I Never Really Noticed The Slightly Smaller Heads. I Just Didn't.
12:51 Certainly you haven't played enough online gaming then!
Lmao
25:21 I remember when I was a kid, playing this game and hadn't unlocked the clown yet, I imagined he would throw pie's at enemies. But I think that would be too creative for the developers.
Good memories, as a kid, I didn't had any home consol, you must know, so I always got the DS ports of games I was interested in. But if you think that was weird, play the sequel on DS. I can't imagine how a developer can make just the basic ability of jumping to turn into the clunkiest movement ever.

In This Secret Level, I Stepped Into The Water On The Right And Nothing Happened... Until I Went Further Down And Died.
But Lo And Behold, In LEGO Indiana Jones 2 On The Nintendo DS And PSP, You Can Finally Swim In The Water!
I had a copy that was glitched spiders flashed red, the wip didnt always hit, and some enimies would rotate in place.
It was very fun doe.
This game was my childhood for handheld consoles
0:20 in case you haven’t heard they’re actually making a new Indiana Jones game lol
Lol, yes. It hadn’t been revealed way back when I first made the joke.
The very random Richfield Utah reference is very interesting to me lol
Lmao, sometimes I like to get really specific so that exactly three people watching feel more appreciated
The one thing i remember the most from this game is smashing those pianos. I always laughed whenever i did smash them
24:05 Bro needed the 2x2 round jumper plate.
Lol, this game was seven years too early for such an advanced piece
@@BaneShake Yeah, still It's my favorite Minikit design
2:57 The force awakans came out on Vita ? I thought the Vita was longe dead in this time
It was the last Lego game released for the system. Since 3DS and Vita ports were nearly identical, development costs weren’t “that much” more to keep releasing on Vita, and they could still pretty easily make their money back, even with Vita’s relatively low sales numbers
I mean it was but they were still releasing games
This game right here was my introduction to Indiana Jones. I 100% completed it many years ago, and I still have my original copy.
Sometime I Wonder If The Travelers Tales Group Would Think About Putting The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles In LEGO.
It was just a short quip, but the section at 1:55 made me laugh audibly.
What's funny is I only ever played the DS versions of both LEGO Indy games. The console versions I never knew existed for whatever reason. The DS versions of all the lego titles have such a special place in my heart!
They’re genuinely such fun ports
@@BaneShake Indeed! I even learned a few new things about them in this video. Props to you for shining more light on this underrated gem! Actually, any chance you'll be looking at the sequel?
Ignore me, I see you already have made a video on the sequel 😂 @@BaneShake
Lol, it happens! I’ll be returning to non-Indy Lego DS ports at some point here too!
You made an epic and great video and i miss these games lots of love brudder
Honestly this game is a good one. I always loved how the cutscenes were actually used from the console released. Compared to Lego starwars TCS DS, which had some… odd cutscenes to say the least.
The Lego series on DS was so good as a kid. My favorite was Lego Star Wars 2, I remember grinding for the ships that you could check out in the hangar after each mission. Plus, it had a 4-Player Deathmatch mode which my brother and I played a lot, and you only needed 1 copy of the game!
I played these on my ds as a kid, I had no idea they were different on the different consoles
The sight of vita games should make anyone's undergarments fly off at high velocity
I remember the blowing function also working by holding down the select button, or am i mistaking this feature with mk ds
the ds version of lego indiana jones was apart of my childhood
What was that music at the 0:12 mark?
Hey at least we got full cutscenes instead of slideshows or puppet shows on top of still frames like Complete Saga or Lego Batman 1.
To be fair, some of those Batman comic-styled panels go hard
The nostalgia for this game, playing on my R4 card back in the day. One of the best Lego games hands down
It’s such a good port
This is a very solid look at a very interesting game... as a fan of Lego games, particularly Indiana Jones, I was always curious about the DS titles having never gotten the chance to play them. I finally have a copy but haven't played it yet, so I didn't know anything about it til today, and now I'm quite excited to get around to it. Again, this is a great video, good stuff!
Another difference that you forgot to mention : the level featuring young Indy. In the standard version, it is a bonus level to unlock while on the DS version, it's the first level of The Last Crusade.
I actually did briefly mention this, at 7:30
@@BaneShakeMy bad.
No worries, dude!
This game is fun, especially when you're at a restaurant waiting for your food to come.
I find the DS version more nostalgic, since I played it more as a child.
I remember playing this and lego Batman for countless hours on my ds. Good shit.
This game was dope. Got it as a birthday gift and played the crap out of it. Loved the cooking minigames
The cooking minigames are so funny in their audacity
This was my childhood game it was pretty damn good for the limited console
18:17 what are you running from?
I have a fond memory of playing this game on DS with my cousin on his using the multiplayer feature it was awesome
lego indiana jones 1 for the wii was the first lego game i played, if you don’t count lego racers 1 and 2, and legoland (a rollercoaster tycoon esque game) (all for windows)
I love that you are covering this!
This Game was my childhood game. I loved it so much.
By the way great video :D
