    I don't hate The Ordinary! I don't necessarily love it either, but I do believe it serves a very important role in the skincare industry. Times are changing and people are getting a lot more educated about the ingredients in their products. This brand is all about accessibility and transparency. It also requires YOU the consumer to be very proactive about educating yourself.

    I can’t believe you have to tell ppl not to use all the products at once. But I get it, it’s so cheap you wanna buy them all to see what works. The Ulta I go to sold out in a couple days when they first started stocking them. I love love love The Ordinary. I started off with just the Niacinamide which greatly reduced my oil production. I just bought a bunch of other products and plan to only use one or two at any given time. And yes there’s lots of great information on the website that’s very helpful. Glad you’re putting this info out there 💕

      I only use 3 or 4 but never all at the same time. I use the buffet in the morning and niacinamide + the magnesium with zinc at night. And those have helped so much with my oil production. But she is 100% right people mix everything (my friend) was mixing actives with other actives you should mix and would complain that she was breaking out. I had to lecture her on what can be mixed and what cant and told her to stop using scrubs everyday (she used then twice a day!!!)

      I agree but I think people do that because when the ordinary first became popular a ton of beauty youtubers were buying like most to all of the products in the range and reviewing them and so I’m sure their viewers thought it was ok to do that but in my head I remember thinking that literally makes no sense because not everything is for every skin type and of your go on their website they even have mini regimes for specific skin concerns as a guide.

    Personally, I think that a lot of people get fooled by The Ordinary's very accessible price point into thinking that their products are as easy to use as they are easy to acquire. But it's very important to have a good understanding of what various skincare ingredients do and individual skincare needs before getting started. And honestly, most people don't have that knowledge. The brand makes an effort to advise and educate, but I think that there will probably always be people who get in over their heads or get put off The Ordinary entirely because they lack the information necessary to put their products to best use.
    That being said, based on what's written in the description, I expect this is going to be another entirely sensible video filled with excellent, practical advice.

      I mix all my acids but my skin is super forgiving when it comes to that. This is not typical so don’t try it! I will say one acid that I EXTREMELY careful with is resveratrol, it is a demon in disguise if not used with caution. I was warned and thought I could handle it because of my history with acids, I had no negative reaction till about 5-6 days of daily use and it was pretty bad, my skin was FRIED. (Now I use it maybe once a month and I dilute 1 drop of resv. with 3 drops of squalene oil, and when I’m feeling brave I’ll do vit c instead of squalene) Literally my skin felt like I had been burned with actual heat, very rough in texture and sore. Took me about 2 weeks to shed that, and only because I forced my skin to make new cells via retinoids. Had I not used anything it would’ve taken even longer, you’ve all be warned! Good day!

    I won't lie, almost my entire skincare regimen consists of The Ordinary, aside from my cleansers. BUT, as she said, you have to know what you're doing when mixing products. I've used vitamin c and retinoid in more potent formulas in the past, so my skin had an easy time transitioning to their products. It's also important to remember that it can't reAlly cure hormonal acne, but it can help improve skin texture and health to make it more manageable.
    I use, in this order:
    AM Routine
    -Rinse face with cool water or Shishedo Oil Cleanser
    -The Ordinary Hylauronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum
    -The Ordinary (Vitamin C Serum) Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate 20% + Vitamin F
    -Neutrogena Sheer Zinc Dry Touch Sunscreen
    -The Ordinary "B" Oil
    PM Routine
    -Double Cleanse with Shishedo Oil Cleanser and Mario Badusce Seaweed Cleanser
    -The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Serum
    -The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% + Squalene Oil
    -The Ordinary "B" Oil
    -Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream
    Occasionally I'll use their Caffeine Under Eye Solution if I didn't sleep well, or their Niacinimide Solution, but usually only when I run out of Retinoid and am waiting for it to arrive. It's a decent place holder to keep my acne from flaring up.

      That doesn't mean they need to switch from TO to PC, but maybe use 3-4 TO products (maybe one active, one serum, and a hydrator) rather than 9 (5 actives, 3 serums, and a hydrator). The trouble is, the products TO offers can all sound tempting. Combat oiliness, brighten, exfoliate, reduce fine lines, etc all with a different product targeting that one concern and each product under $10!? It's too much and to easy to want to try it all.
      The Ordinary works best when you pick one or two concerns and make a routine to treat them. I wanted to even my skin tone, so I picked a vitamin C serum and all my other products were tailored to help the vitamin C work better. Now I'm looking happy with my skin tone, I'm looking to add some retinol or acid and am researching how I'd like to set up my next skin care routine to suit the active I choose. And I can do it on a budget thanks to The Ordinary. I could do something similar with other brands, like PC, but I'd be paying a lot more for it and not always for the better. Like Paula's Choice antioxidant serum has both vitamin c and niacinamide and those ingridents do not enhance the effectiveness of the other, but rather the opposite. Or PC has lots of extracts, which sounds nice, but don't have a lot of evidence to back up their usefulness on skin and can even cause irritation. I love Dr. Dray for info about extracts.

    Ordinary broke me out to the 10th power. I had boils coming out my face that I never had in my entire life. After six long months getting my face back to normal it was a huge effort of work. I’m now working on the marks left behind. You are right. It truly was the mixture of the chemicals without having knowledge of skincare. At least, not when it comes to mixing and matching retinol/retinal/AHA & everything else. You have to almost be a chemist. Good advise!

    100% agree with everything you said. The Ordinary is appropriate for filling gaps in a routine but an entire routine should not be built around this brand. I also feel Marine Hyaluronics is more hydrating & more effective than HA 2%, but MMHC is definitely the best one. Also, I think Hylamide deserves more attention! Lastly, whoever recommends products and how to use them over at Deciem's team doesn't take the skin's barrier into consideration. They recommend too many acids, they tell people to use them too often, and recommend way more products than necessary in general. I understand that their job is to sell, but it's so irresponsible.

    Just remember, that a professional touches your skin perhaps once a month, if you can afford to see one but you touch your skin every day, two times a day. I have always believed that the slower approach is best. Allow your skin to adjust.... it takes time to treat any skin condition and concern. Devon mentioned many great treatments. I think that you have to consider your options and see what fits your budget.
    On a different note, the client that I mentioned. His mother came to visit me and told me I saved his life. He started going out , talking with family and visiting them. He was not like this before! They all were noticing that his face improved but also his confidence. We don’t always know peoples situations but we all have different options. If you’re going with skincare don’t give up the first month, try it for half the year.

    Can you please do a video on how to remove scars?

    • @lycanite7886
      @lycanite7886 5 лет назад +12

      Sadly, you cannot remove scars, they're permanent once they've formed completely. The only way to significantly reduce their appearance, is through laser treatment, such as a pulse dye laser operated by a dermatologist. But depending on the type of scar, like if it is a keloid or icepick scar, then sadly you're out of luck. Removing scars is not possible, as they're far too deep in the skin to reverse the damage.

    • @devon.pfeifer
      @devon.pfeifer 5 лет назад +54

      Laser is not the only treatment to remove scarring. You can alternate microneedling with certain professional acids, and peels weekly to bi-weekly, along with homecare with alpha hydroxy acids, and/or retinoids. Or peels without microneedling at all... Stimulating fibroblasts does not only happen with lasers-there are other treatments available.
      Secondly, Ms. Jemima, when you say scarring, are you referring to pitted scarring or hyperpigmentation? Sometimes people refer to pigment as scarring as well.

    • @lycanite7886
      @lycanite7886 5 лет назад +4

      @@devon.pfeifer Microneedling can help if the scar is on the uppermost layer of the skin, and I talked about laser treatment, because too many people think microneedling and peels will fade scarring and they'll see drastic results. Even with lasers, you'll still see the scar, but it's usually minimal. Treatment really depends on the type of scar, as that's usually an indicator as to how deep it is within the skin, and how to effectively take care of it. And again, we really shouldn't use the term "remove" because no laser treatment can do that, and neither can acids. We really shouldn't drvelop such higg hopes, as there is only so much cosmetics and skincare can do.

    • @blessed8673
      @blessed8673 5 лет назад +25

      Hello Jemima, Scars can take some the to diminish. I treated a client that had very severe acne scaring. Usually clients have a couple of options.
      1) lasers 2) Peels. 3) microneedling 4) Skincare. The client that I treated was extremely depressed about his skin and nearly took his life because he was bullied and humiliated about his face. Very sad reality, I felt a tremendous obligation to help him as much as I could, he did not have much money. The best option for him was Skincare. He was on a retinol, spf, and a scar product called Scar heal. You would not believe his results after one year of use. It was like night and day.
      Remember , that not one treatment or product can perform miracles but you have to pay attention to where the skin was to the current state.
      I have been training and educating Medical aesthetics, Doctors and other skincare professionals for years and one of the most common errors that I would see is professionals pushing treatments and not skincare protocol.

Plus it doesn't help that because I stripped my skin so much with cleansers I hadn't realized how oily and fragile it was, so I had to find out my actual skin problems and type before emailing the ordinary. It wasn't until after tons of research that I emailed with questions, but it was pretty satisfying when they replied with almost the exact same regimen I had chosen after hours of research through videos, reviews, and the ordinary website itself. The rules you suggested sound great! It's really tempting to try to buy a bunch because it's so cheap, but I feel like adding more than 2 products at a time is really pushing it on your skin.

    I needed to hear this because I am currently healing my over exfoliated skin. The only Ordinary product I use is the niacinamide serum, and I have used it for several months, so it was fine. I was adding physical exfoliation techniques, though. I have been "dermaplaning" once a month (you love that right?), but I started using a silicone sonic face brush, too. I think the face brush was the tipping point. I was using a foam cleanser and cleansing with it for the 60 seconds (LMAO) twice a day on the lowest setting. I started that part of the routine early last month. After the scrubbing, I would tone and slap that 10% niacinamide on top. When my dermaplaning day came up about ten days ago, it just all went to hell. I was surprised when the niacinamide started to burn, so I tried using it after my emulsion. Then my gentle toner and emulsion burned too. Then came the breakouts!!! Notice: If you squeeze a pimple on over-exfoliated skin, it will take off the top layer even if you are gentle and use a special tool. Then using niacinamide over that broken skin (for its soothing and healing properties, of course) is a bad thing to do. I did that.
    I stopped using the face brush and actives. I am currently using my hyaluronic acid toner and emulsion in the morning and evening and adding a layer of ceramide emulsion and a skin oil at night. It is healing well. I plan to start using the niacinamide again, but only gradually. If I use the face brush, it will be once a week except for the week I shave. I started all of this extra exfoliation because I had some PIH spots and some congestion. Now I have a lot of redness and some inflammation, and I can't tell if there is congestion yet because of that inflammation. Never again!

      Naruto Uchiha That’s because Differin contains adapalene a retinoid and Curology typically contains tretinoin another retinoid. Retinoids aren’t pigment inhibitors. They can stimulate cell turnover which can help some but they’re not like say hydroquinone which actually destroys pigment cells or tranexemic acid which inhibits melanin production. Not a fault of the retinoids, you just weren’t using the correct products to help.

    You’re right, people need to take time and keep it simple-I have way too many products and honestly the cost is adding up and my simple routine is now like a taxing ten step Korean routine every morning and night.

    I love The Ordinary and I absolutely love and appreciate the guidelines you suggest for its use. I think it's really easy to get hyped over this brand and just attack your own poor face with too many irritations. I think this information is extremely helpful and affirming.

    I’m not sure if it’s the lighting but your foundation has a very grey tone,ashiness. Of course otherwise you’re flawless!

    People don’t read nowadays! The website from Ordinary did explained the directions on how to use it and what products to avoid due to contraindications..smh. Thankfully you are here to educate them. Keep up the good work!

    Great advice. I wish i had seen this before over doing it with acids😔 I am dealing with hyperpigmentation and it's frustrating at times. I've become such a product junky. It's like a new product comes out with Promises of giving you your best skin and before you know it I've purchased it🤦🏽‍♀️ then when I realize I can't have so many I try to use them up to finish them which = damaged skin barrier.

      What kind of products are you looking for? Your skin care needs? Many times you'll find more effective treatments with commercial products, as they are formulated with safety standards, to last longer without risk of bacterial growth, and all encompassing- meaning you don't need to use several items to achieve one goal. But for those who would like to experiment for the fun of it, or other reasons, there are some diy products that are safe.

    What a great video!!! I wish everyone who is a skincare rookie would watch this before buying the Ordinary. And not just watch a regular review on TO products.

    I agree. If you aren't familiar with ingredients for your I wouldn't dive in head first and get a bunch of their products. Yes their prices are affordable for good ingredients but this is a pro and a con in a way because you really have to be knowledgeable about mixing and frequency of use etc

    Love this video, been using a combination of The Ordinary and NIOD for a couple of years and what it's done for my pigmentation has been miraculous!
    I'm in a Deciem facebook group and people show up every day new to skincare and asking if it's safe to use awwwwl of their Actives right away and in the same routine! There's also a helluva lot of questions about barrier repair because people rushed in and they know someone who did the same and their skin was fine -so a lot of educating gets done in that group!
    Deciem do suggest that people use no more than x1 Active + x3 serums per routine, but a lot of people seem to miss this advice.
    4. Yessss to Marine Hyaluronics, the Hyaluronic Acid used to pill like crazy, MHA plays nicely with the other products in my routine but really the Hadalabo Premium HA is the most elegant formulation that I've used.

      MeShannan I use the Niacinamide serum which is supposed to help, but I don’t want to give you any bad advice since. I’ve only been using it for about a month and it has helped with my sebum production and my pores look less noticeable, thank god. So far for my acne blemishes I can tell that they are reducing, but it takes more than a month to see actual good results so I am still being consistent! I’ve heard the azelaic acid from the ordinary helps with hyperpigmentation as well, but I do not use it so make sure to do research for yourself! Good luck.

    I always viewed the ordinary as supplemental skin care. I started out by adding it in to my preexisting routine and it’s been absolutely lovely 😌 I like to mix different serums with my lightweight moisturizer for extra boosts when I need them

      It's not supplemental. The products *are* skin care.

    Lmao. Thank you. It took a couple of years, but once I stopped using the 10 million “The Ordinary” products my skin improved. I recently ran out of the Ordinary’s primer, so I’m not using any of their products at all right now. Idk if I’ll use them again.

    This is weird I returned the eye serum caffeine because it made The skin around my eyes red puffy and painful. I bought it finally through the summer Sephora sale. I only used it for two days and I woke up with swollen eyes. When I was returning a lady said it’s too concentrated. I was nervous to but it because of the price point being so low. It did have great reviews
