    This is the maddest comment section I’ve ever seen in my life. Why are y’all so mad?! Her age shouldn’t take away from ability to master skin care. She’s actually a licensed esthetician. That means she knows her shit! If you have not had these damaging side effects then good for you. That doesn’t change what the research and science has found. Just use what you can and be done with it.

And baking soda and milk for your hands. Make a paste and put it all over your hands keep on 20 min. Wash with water your hands will feel like velvet. Try the unrefined, expeller pressed, organic type. It does not have a 4/5 comedogenic rating (the possibility of causing acne). Additionally, most people don't REALize vegetable oil in your diet, IS WORSE than coconut oil, as it causes a lot of problems, such as sterility, cancer, etc., BUT for your skin...ACNE. I have come to the conclusion, with 6 years if research under my belt, for my hair/skin care line, vegetable oil, the most popular oil, which is widely used in not only personal food BUT also millions of restaurants, IS THE MAJOR CAUSE of most acne problems....IN THE WORLD!

      lemon isn't bad for your skin. the difference in ph isn't gonna do much. the permeability of hydroxyl acid on the skin cells is not high enough to do any real damage. I'm so surprised she didn't mention alcohol as something bad for the skin, because that is the real thing people should be worried about. Alcohol will literally break down the collagen and structural lipids of the cell membranes in your skin- so stear clear of any wash, toner or moisturiser that has ethanol in it. Ethanol is a short-chain alcohol. The only alcohol that is good for your skin are long-chain alcohols. You can google short-chain and long-chain alcohol to see what products are good and bad for the structure of skin cells.
      As for the photosensitivity after lemon/lime- its true. But just wear a spf50 that day and you'll be fine. No big deal.
      I'm not a cosmetologist or a dermatologist, but I do have some basic cell biology under my belt and that's enough for me to know lemon ain't gonna ruin your skin.

Also there is a lot of data out there to back up her claims such as baking soda being disastrous to the ph levels and skin barrier, lemon creating heightened photo sensitivity and irritation etc. also just because something doesn’t sting , burn or show an immediate reaction doesn’t mean it’s not doing damage.

    She is 100% right and so many people are dense and in denial. I used to apply apple cider vinegar, coconut oil, lemon and scrub with sugars and my skin was inflamed and I got hyper pigmentations or dry flaky skin or pimples. She is recommending other natural ingredients that are neutral on the pH scale. Aswell as recommending serums and replacements that are extracted from natural products. And for the people who hates on “chemicals in skincare” “our ancestors used natural”. Yeah well our ancestors didn’t suffer from polluted air back then or wear heavy makeup and didn’t need to use anything to begin with. Moreover our skin is exposed to alot of chemicals on the daily, such as chemicals and pollutions in the atmosphere and in our makeup. And for the skin to be cleansed off of these bad chemicals that we are exposed to on the daily, we have to actually use some chemical skincare and not natural because they will not remove all of these chemicals and dirt off of your faces. And thats the tea. Educate yourselves before attacking someone who is educated on the matter and stop being ignorant just to have a point.

      Either way, most stuff in skincare products are bad for us as well. I use makeup (occasionally) and every night I oil cleanse with coconut/olive oil, steam my face with a washcloth and then toner. And my face is pretty clear save for the a little pimple that pops up like once every 2 months. So not saying I'm right, but you're not right either. Sometimes, less is more. AND let me clarify, I'm not arguing against her. In fact, I agree with most of them, like mixing glue in a mixture and calling it a face mask, like please.

      cam i steaming your face is actually bad for you and doesn’t do anything at all. The fact that people claim that “it opens pores and allows product too soak in” is ridiculous , I mean come on! Pores do not dilate that is absolutely not how the Anatomy of the face works . Steaming your face actually strips your pores of sebum and can lead too TEWL , to make it worse people add “serums” right after which are actually humectants which pull water from the lower layers of the skin barrier and hydrate the surface layer . The problem with this is that water evaporates thus leaving your face dry and dehydrated. your pores look bigger after steaming because your face is inflamed and irritated! Furthermore washing with coconut oil and olive oil can actually irritate the skin , olive oil and coconut oil are plant derived and it may seem that its benefiting your face but in the long run you may actually develop an allergy too these ingredients on top of that if those are the only products you are using too clean your face your toners doing most of the IF any cleaning work by mopping up a portion of the sebum on your face. which is probably why you haven’t had a bad reaction yet . these
      Ingredients are proven too clog pores and it may not irritate you but in the long run you may end up doing long term damage too your face .

      Lizabeth McCool I think she means well and I agree with you. What’s interesting is she like most estheticians aren’t properly trained as a chemistry student. I’ve noticed esthetician only explain basic analytical progress but never fully explain or break down all the science related difference. Lol it’s annoying. What she neglects to realize is with facial oils like coconut oil will only ever stay on top layer of your skin and never reach down and penetrate the lower levels of your skin (no real skin care can do that anyways) coconut oil isn’t the best but it isn’t terrible for you. She doesn’t understand the actual science about it. It’s fine to use if your skin doesn’t get irritated by it. She also mentioned how alcohol in skincare is something to avoid like in toners. She’s completely wrong because there is good alcohol and bad alcohol (3 difference types) and she doesn’t even mention this at all. Etc. i do agree baking soda is terrible because it is, actual lemons are too and apple cider vinegar is just as bad.

      Avoid skincare with gold, it clogs pores. Many luxury products are also heavily fragranced so be careful with that as even hardy skin can be irritated by it over time. Also try and avoid facial scrubs with things like sugar/coffee grounds/etc. in them as they will actually give you micro-tears, opt for gentle chemical exfolients instead (you could also use man made scrubbing beads but those are usually bad for the environment).

      @TemptressMoon 6 лет назад +16

      Blazing Demon absolutely. You have to be patient and diligent when using apple cider vinegar. But it will get rid of acne scaring. I also take it for weight loss but, but that’s a whole subject I won’t get into. Lemon, turmeric and baking soda work well for getting rid of acne scarring too. She’s wrong. I wouldn’t use all three at one time though and I’d dilute with a little water until I got use to which ever one I chose. Rose hip oil at night will help too. Just a little goes a long way and check and see if it pore clogging first and it’s light weight. I don’t believe it is if I recall correctly from my reading. I use it religiously and it smooths and evens my skin. Also it anti aging. Lastly, no matter what we put on our skin if we aren’t healthy from the inside it shows on our skin. So eat good food and drink lots of water. Couldn’t help myself with that tip. It’s the mother in me. Hope I didn’t over step.

    • @TemptressMoon
      @TemptressMoon 6 лет назад +3

      Blazing Demon ok I can only answer based on what you’re telling me. I’m not sure if you have oily, dry, normal or combination skin. I’m not sure if it’s acne prone. I will tell you this. My daughter uses black African soap on her body to shower and on days that she has heavy volleyball training and may need to wash her face three times, she’ll use it as her second wash. However, she doesn’t do this to her face every day because it can be drying to her skin. So if it makes you feel dry it may not be something you want to use everyday. Only when you feel excessively oily. Maybe twice a week. If you’re using black soap and then following with acv as a toner then washing with oil, you are over washing and therefore, drying your skin. This can have the opposite affect that you want and cause more acne or breakouts. You always want to be gentle with your skin.
      If I were you I’d get a gentle exfoliating scrub like Cetiphil or Neutrogena. Something mild and gentle to begin with. I’d then dilute a cotton pad with water and apple cider vinegar and use as a toner. I’d then moisturize with an oil free moisturizer or a lighter oil. Castor and hemp are kinda heavy. Rosehip, almond, grape seed are lighter. Once a week I’d do a clay mask like bentonite clay or charcoal mask. Biore’ has a good one. Steam facial are good to open the pores and clean out impurities once a week too. Also, mask that come in those packages and have the eyes and mouth cut out are great too. My daughter recently discovered that her skin responds well to those. But you have to know what kind of skin you have in order to know what to target when buying those. Sometimes based on how your skin is feeling it’s ok to exfoliate wash at night and only clean with a wash cloth in the morning. Then follow with a toner and moisturizer. You have to decide if and when you need to do this. I really can’t say. It’s about getting to know and love your skin. As you learn more about what it likes and doesn’t like you’ll know what it needs. I hope this helps.

      Moriah Johnson while I agree natural is way better I will say chemicals aren't invented in a factory. Factories simply mix the natural chemicals that occur in earth and make solutions just like we do with diys and sometimes the mixes become over complicated or are not suitable for our bodies. For example I see a lot of people in the comments saying mix bentonite clay with water instead of acv. That is terrible for your skin you should always mix bentonite clay with something acidic like acv fo neutralize it because it is very basic. We can easily mess up using natural ingredients too

      @LadyAhro 6 лет назад +5

      Aurora Eve eh sure, that was my purposefully snarky answer, but honestly there's a fair chance that both 'natural' and carefully made skincare products can give someone a reaction.
      People have allergies to all kinds of things, including natural ingredients. Some natural ingredients are incredibly irritating (certain essential oils, volatile plant extracts etc)
      And equally there are synthetic ingredients that other people's skin disagrees with and no, these issues don't immediately crop up more often with synthetically derived ingredients.
      I don't deny that some raw ingredients can work well for some, but others are just bad news in their pure form. It helps to know the science behind both.
      When people start looking up what the ingredients in skincare really are, from a scientific source (like ingredients directories - Beautypedia and the sources they use can be very informative and LabMuffin has a great video on natural skincare from a scientific perspective), you realise that what's in products that have gone through refinement or have been through a lab actually contain useful things. Like emulsifiers, ingredients that stabilise or enhances the other and helpful preservatives that elongates shelf life. And as said, a lot of those do come from natural sources, but only the effective bits have been selected.

Thank them for helping you with your skin. It works. It might feel strange at first, but keep doing it until it feels right. Know your skin is going to get better. Create a mantra. "I know my skin is getting better every day. I love my skin." Something like that. Say it until it becomes your new belief. It works. Lastly, and most importantly, love the way you look NOW. If you only focus on what you don't like, you'll just keep getting more of the same. Sounds weird, but who cares. People thought the world was flat. Turns out that weird Galileo dude was right.

    I make natural cosmetics and soaps, and I agree with what you said for the most part, but some of these ingredients are very helpful ingredients for certain applications for the skin care ingredients- I guess my point is for the viewers of this video; don’t DIY anything until you have a reliable ph tester.NEVER use any of these as a leave on product on the face, and never use them at full strength. I use SB as a ph adjuster, along with citric acid if I need to adjust in that direction of course always using my ph meter to make natural products designed for my clients personal ph.
    Also, soap is very alkaline and that might be something to add to your list of don’t put this in your face; real soap; while a wash off product isn’t the greatest facial cleanser and when clients come to me with acne over washing with soap is a common culprit. Bentonite clay, a little glycerin and a few drops of peppermint EO makes a great spot treatment and all over mask for acne prone skin.
    Thank you so much or making this video because it definitely needed be be addressed. 💜

    *These are my extra added comments on stuff she mentioned cuz I've used everything mentioned and she does in fact have a point*
    _i came back and edited a few things_
    Coconut oil: it does clog pores. if you do use it on your face use it as a cleanser (never as a moisturizer) don't leave it on for long. Avoid your eyes cuz its oils and by default greasy. Most people have skin that doesn't like it and it may cause cystic acne (happened to me).
    Salt and sugar: I used this and I don't recommend the salt. Sugar is fine for some people as a light scrub used infrequently. Edit: unless you have strong skin don't do this at all. You a chemical exfoliant.
    Lemon: Dilute it. If you have sensitive skin, don't use it at all. Don't use it in the sun, wear sunscreen after. There are people who I know who have used lemon on their face for ages and have been completely fine with it. But I don't recommend this.
    Baking soda: I don't recommend this. While it may cause acne to go down, when I used it it made my acne darker and dry out. Cystic acne will just turn darker and come back TT.
    Apple cider vinegar: dilute it. Dilute it. Dilute it. It can work miracles but no matter what skin type you have you must dilute it. Sensitive skin especially can cause burns. Always moisturize afterwards. Extremely good if used with bentonite clay. People use it in high amounts, but I think it's too harsh to be used everyday unless you lower it to like 5% of your toner.
    Toothpaste: Same thing happened to me like baking soda. My cystic acne wanted to die. It burns. Don't know about other people.
    Tea tree oil: dilute it. Dilute it. Dilute it. Never use it alone. I don't know why anyone would do that.
    *I conclusion* what she is saying has basis. But it is all dependent on skin type and how you use it. All these things have worked with people, but they have also gone horribly with others. Look up ways to use it and how it has affected other people. I agree with the other things she said were good to use. But I do believe she needs to change her video title, it is misleading.
    What she says does have basis. And anyone doing diy is recommending it because it handles worked for them, but it doesn't work for everyone. Everyone's skin is different and I realize now she's giving good advice. The title is a little harsh though.
    Have a good day.

    • @africandaughter3110
      @africandaughter3110 4 года назад +2

      @@yasanutouray1660 I'm actually also black, and my skin type is combination, acne prone with a dehydrated skin condition (currently). If you have no other option you could try diluted apple cider vinegar as a two to three times a week exfoliator (don't recommend it everyday, a lot of people have said after using it a week straight their skin became sensitive) so dilute it with water with 25% apple cider vinegar max and use it only a few times a week.
      Coconut or any other oil could work as an oil cleanser, but you have to make sure you properly clean it off after and wash with a cleanser if your scared of it clogging your pores. To be honest another oil like jojoba would be better as an oil cleanser and a leave on (it may cause your skin to purge with little pimples, that's okay just give it a couple of days to clear. Don't pick)
      Tea tree oil is amazing as long as you dilute it properly (research it) and use it only as a spot treatment (I would dilute it with another oil, don't use water). I can not in good mind recommend any of the others to any other skin type or skin color because of the issues that come along with them and it is seriously not worth it. If you can please try a simple brand like the ordinary that's cheap and effective or cerave. :) Hope this helps

    I'm GLAD someone made this video. I have suffered and still suffer from acne, so I've done virtually almost every single DIY out there to improve my skin. I agree, do NOT put lemon or baking soda on your skin. It doesn't matter if it temporarily works for you, or if you don't do it often. There WILL be negative side effects in the years to come. Don't put toothpaste on, don't put anything harsh on. Please. I've used tea tree oil before, undiluted, and it really damaged my skin. If you ABSOLUTELY have to use it, dilute it a lot! Same with ACV. 1 spoon of ACV to 1 glass of water, and use it once a week or once every two weeks. Eventually these products will dry your skin out. The biggest thing is to keep moisturized with natural products like essential oils, I use rosehip, aloe vera gel, HONEY is amazing, also vaseline has helped me but that isn't necessarily natural. Drink lots of water. If you feel the need to use lemon, just DRINK lemon water. If anyone has questions please ask below, I've been through years of ups and downs with skin!

      i managed to get rid of my acne by quitting milk products and wheat, i noticed that my skin gets worse after certain food so i went to the doctor and took blood test , my hormones where ok but they said that I have lactose and wheat intolerance. I really recommend to check this first. My skin was really better after that, no more red spots. Unfortunately I still had small white pimples deep under the skin, then I went to other doctor and got roaccutane. I thought that these pills are only for heavy acne and that my doctor would not allow me to take them. I was taking them 8 months, and i was a bit scared because of side effects but I had only very dry lips . anyway... now i get some pimples only if i eat a chocolate with milk but usually just single ones. I am 34 and finally i am happy, my skin is not perfect but healthy enough, I would say it looks 95% good. I really recommend to check intolerances and ask for roaccutane even though it had long list with side effects

      I'm so happy for you Kate! I didn't mention this in my comment, but I will now since you brought it up. I've quit dairy products and gluten, mainly because they caused me immense stomach pain that vanished once I stopped eating them. After doing more research, I found out that many gluten products, like white bread and pasta, are high in the glycemic index and spike your blood sugar, which can lead to inflamed skin and acne. I've always known that dairy was no good for acne so I don't consume it anymore. When my diet is very clean, organic, and full of fruits and veggies I have clearer skin. Recently I broke out because a product that was supposed to be really healthy, vegan, gluten free, etc. had a lot of sugar in it that I wasn't even aware of, so I wish I was more careful about that because now I'm paying the price. My point is, diet is VERY effective when it comes to reducing acne. I'm also taking some vitamins/supplements now but I can't say yet how good of an effect they have. Unfortunately I won't be taking accutane because I previously took an oral antibiotic for acne which, although got rid of my acne for like 3 days, made me puke uncontrollably for several days and completely destroyed my stomach. Like I'm still trying to recover a few years later, so there's no way I'm taking the risk again with an even stronger pill. I'm glad it worked for you though, and thank you for sharing your insight

      Tracey Machio, I know you should use a product for a few weeks to see the "real" results as your skin is getting used to it. The truth is, natural remedies like honey masks and aloe vera won't cause your skin to purge because they won't cause any irritations (and if they do, you are sensitive to it and should discontinue use). I used many creams and medicines, everything I could get at the pharmacy or from my doctor but nothing helped. One day I started applying coconut oil on my face every night before I got into bed and after about 2 or 3 weeks everything was gone! My face has never looked better. i painfully have to agree on formerly beloved coconut oil. i used to buy gallons of this and just used it for everything, cooking, all over my body, hair, oil-pulling etc.....after a few years im recovering from my extremely dry skin. coconut oil is an astringent oil which means DRYING! and dry, irritated skin means = acne. if u have naturally dry, dehydrated skin u cant use coconut oil. people w/ normal skin or naturally oily skin (which means luminous, slightly shiny skin w/ no acne. if u have acne but its oily, u acutally have dry, dehydrated skin, not oily. if u have oil w/ acne it means ur using way too harsh products that are irritating ur skin and causing acne)

      If that works for you...go for it. Diluted the pH is slightly acidic which helps the serums and moisturizers penetrate deeper, therefore getting increased use of the possibly higher end moisturizer you splurge on. So if it makes you glow...continue using diluted with water or with rose water or a million other components to dilute with ACV. Please use The Mother Braggs ACV or a similar brand if possible. That is the best.

Having oily acne-prone skin, that regimen actually gave me the best skin I've ever had. Even better than ProActiv and other products I tried. Now I'm in my late 20s going on 30 and my skin just doesn't react the same. I had to stop using coconut oil altogether. I still use ACV diluted with water and Dr. Bonner's Castille soap to wash my face. But I am looking for better ways to care for my skin. This video is really enlightening.

If it doesn't, go ahead :D just try at ur own risks ofc that's all I can say lol cuz i know some diy do help a lot to some people (as i can relate to some like aloe vera one lol LIFE CHANGER, for me.) as it can worsen some people's situation as well so just see if your skin is sensitive or not. And if this vid is not relatable at all or helpful, just take it as an extra knowledge (it never hurts to learn new things lol, its pretty educational) or a warning so you know the harms and not just the good stuff so you can be careful not to overdo stuff lol

    You mentioned on Twitter that mandelic acid is better for dark skin. Could you describe for someone that has never used it before how to effectively use it??

    • @loveanelle
      @loveanelle 6 лет назад +8

      Chantel Rolling I'm not The Golden Rx but mandelic acid is one of the 3 forms of alpha hydroxy acid, also known as AHA, and it's a type of chemical exfoliant. Other forms of chemical exfoliants include glycolic acid and lactic acid (the other two types of AHAs) and salicylic acid (a chemical exfoliant known as BHA). Mandelic acid has the smallest molecular structure out of all the 3 AHAs, which makes its irritation level REALLY low. It works slower but it WORKS and is fantastic if your skin is sensitive as well 😊
      Before I even get into how you could use it, if you're not wearing sunscreen consistently (SPF 30 or higher), start wearing sunscreen consistently before you even think about trying mandelic acid or any type of AHA/BHA. 7 days/week, 365 days/yr.
      If you've never used it before, I would start off with a low percentage of mandelic acid, anywhere from 5%-7% MAX. Also, since you've never used it before, I would also use mandelic acid after you use a toner or serum, which will act as a buffer between the acid and your skin as it your skin builds tolerance to the mandelic acid. If your skin doesn't have any sensitivity or irritation, you can use the acid directly after cleansing. Make sure to wait between 15-20 minutes for the acid to do its job before applying your next product.
      Also, like I said, make sure you're wearing sunscreen as mandelic acid (or any type of AHA/BHA) will increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun but you should be wearing sunscreen anyway 😊 This was a lot but I hope it was helpful!
