I cannot express how much I LOVE that they make product recommendations that are in “normal human” price ranges.
Usually the really high end stuff is the snake oil. The most effective ingredients are usually medicines, which are normally not that expensive. Once you start introducing golden flakes or whatever the celebrities are peddling, it gets expensive.
Most overpriced products are actually shit and is just priced so high because of the brand.
Its the ingredients that matter in a product.
@@intelligenthuman3262 some of the cheaper products that have the same ingredients may not have the same quality of ingredients tho, and the product may not work as well because the formula isnt as advanced. Ingredients are very important tho. Good skincare does not have to be expensive
Thicken the skin? Under eyelids. I mean doesn’t that make you look older?
Good rule of thumb is that no skin product that works should cost more than $30 for a 30 day supply, and even that is kind of high if you ask me.
video notes
Excuse the spelling.
1. are vitamin A derivatives (adapalene, tretnoid, retinol)
2. anti-acne, improves hyperpigmentation, improves appearance pores, anti aging, improves skin texture
3. retinol is less strong and irritating then tretinoid
4. picking the right retinoid-based off of strength
1. retinol - good for sensitive skin
2. tretinoid more effective then OTC products. not necessarily more irritating.
3. retinol, adapalene, retanal, tretinoid, zaratine - level of irritation least to most.
4. use differen gel adapline for acne.
5. use
1. start low then go high.less irritating option. so skin has gotten used to it.
2. start with using it every other day. skin needs time to adapt
3. flaking and irritation is expected, which means it is working. peak of irritation is 2-3 weeks. after the skin will calm down and be less irritating. skin might get worse b4 better.
4. after a month or so start doing it every day. then see how u do. then u can increase to twice a day IF u want/can.
5. if you have sensitive skin then start with every 3rd night for 1 month -> every 2nd night for 1 month -> then every night for 1 month
6. if you have sensitive skin then moisturizer first then apply retinoid and then moisturize again.
7. use small amount, pea-size amount.
8. after cleansing and then moisturize right away.
9. protect sensitive areas. if your eye area is sensitive then apply moisturizer on eye lid before apply retinoid. only if that area is sensitive for you. if it is not then apply retinoid first due to benefits.
10. time: stick with it. time till benefits anti-aging 3-6 months, hyperpigmentation 3 months.
thank you for this
thank you so much!!!
Thank you, is it okay if I stick with it more than 6 months like a year?

As a Family Physician may I just say you guys are great! Your blog is funny and informative, you relate well with each other and your audience. I find myself critiquing your information from a medical standpoint and every video convinced you practice evidence based medicine and are top-notch dermatologists. As a clinician with 30 + years practicing medicine, all I can say is “keep doing what you’re doing!”

Your videos are great. So balanced, such great advice and it a user-friendly and fun way. Thank you both for the work you do. I'm so impressed by your delivery.
You two Dermatologists! Love watching your videos, you both seem to have so much fun together and yet are informative so one can make really good decisions. As a RN, and having worked with so many DOUR docs, you're both a breathe of fresh air! So much better in forming relationships with patients and with staff.
For myself, I learned more about retinols and acne solutions for over the counter. Not everyone can afford expensive prescriptions and formulations. You make products accessible for the average person. Thank you so much! I look forward to seeing more of your videos and playful bantering. Keep it going!!

Love your videos and how earnest you guys are. Honesty, humour and knowledge are what I see from here. Pls stay this way and don’t get too commercialised by endorsing products.
You mentioned Differin in a video I watched just before going to the US. (Canadian) I had no idea I could get it prescription free. Having used it under a dermatologist’s supervision as a teen and then moving and no longer having a dermatologist as an adult - I was so excited I came home with three bottles. Just a week later (layering it under moisturizer and barely putting any on as I remember how hard it is to start) skin pigmentation from old acne is going away and my hormonal acne is finally calmer. You guys just made a huge difference in my quality of life. I hope this comment makes your day!
Can we use Salicylic acid Cleanser with it?
ye it is really good with salicylic acid, but take care if you got sensitive skin@@user-xu3hp3bg8h
No, it tends to be very irritating when combined at the same time. You could use SA in the morning and your Retinol in the evening@@user-xu3hp3bg8h
As a medical student I am really impressed by your goal of spreading true information about skincare and as someone who is into skincare I really appreciate the knowledge. as dubayy said and I will tell you as an actual M.D. GS there are absolutely zero backed studies saying pregnant women can't and shouldn't use. In fact, studies have shown it has no effect on pregnancy. As dubayy a well-known Doctor has stated above, many things they have said in this video are opinion, not fact, and incorrect

I really appreciate the information, I’m in my mid 20s and addressing hyperpigmentation as I start retinoids. I have watched a few videos now and just bless the both of you for sharing so much information and enjoying what you do!
You forgot tip #6: Wear sunscreen. Skin will be super sensitive.
Only during the adjustment period.
@@Minerva-fp1zx BS all the time. You will damage all you collagen so what would be the use ?
@JD Yes, retinoids should only be used at night. Sun exposure actually reduces their efficacy, so you want them working while the sun isn't out and you're sleeping. They also make your skin somewhat more sensitive to the sun (consistently, not just right after using), so sunscreen use is even more important than it is normally.
Great videos! I like your energy and how you deliver the information. Very easy to follow. Keep up the great work!
Love your videos! I appreciate that you share what you and your clients experience. I've been reluctant to try anything other than a simple cleanser, but now see that I need to be doing much more. Thank you!

I actually started once a week for a first month, then 2x a week for second month, 3 times a week on a third month until my saw my skin actually doing well without irritation :) clue is to be patient and not to rush it :)
And how often in a week are you exfoliating?
@@Betrie once a week or every two weeks as retinol is already exfoliating on its own, so I don't want to overdo it.
Thank you so much for making these videos!!! I feel like for the first time I can get two doctor's guidance on what to do with my skin. It's fabulous to be so informed.
Only recently discovered this channel and am now binge-watching. These guys are great! The only thing I would have added to this is reinforcing that people MUST use sunscreen when using retinoids. Of course people should be using sunscreen religiously anyway, but it's hugely important when using retinoids (or any actives that are exfoliants). Living in Australia makes you really conscious of this. Will carry on bingeing this channel! ❤
yes that aussie sun is 🤨🤨
thats why you should only use it in your pm skincare routine
This is exactly why is use them and night! Don’t wanna mess with the aussie sun, especially in Perth 😂

@@wydmatt7294 no problem at all! sorry for my late response - I literally just got a notification of your reply today when I'm an avid user of RUclips, and I see that I'm already a month late... please don't take offense!
I chose the CeraVe resurfacing retinol because it was one of the recommended starter retinoid products from the Doctorly channel. it has a really low concentration of retinol, which is suitable for people with more sensitive skin like myself, so they can start more gently.
I just followed the rule of threes from Dr. Shah: I started by applying it once every three nights for the first month, then once every other night for the second month, and then every night as tolerated for the third! I sandwich my retinol application between two applications of lightweight moisturizer for the first few weeks and also slowed my use of other actives like glycolic acid until after the first few weeks. there have been some tingling involved, but I'm doing well on it so far! I'm going into my third month while on it with no obvious, perceivable improvements yet (I should take comparison photos) but I'm keeping at it! good luck!
