As always, Vincent is master of his domain with the best content available. Thanks again for your dedication to the in depth, technical reviews. I’m hoping my budget allows for one of these models later this year or next!
The picture quality is pristine on the A90J. It has to be seen in person to be believed. Best image processing I've ever seen. If you are big tv or movie fan. SDR or HDR I can't recommend the A90j enough. HDR is the best ever produced on an OLED but not enough recognition is being shown for SDR handling. SDR is the biggest step up I've ever seen.
not sure what we'd do without Vincent, nobody else is putting the TV's through their paces this way, most reviews are pretty lame, even AVFORUMS dumb down their video reviews preferring to concentrate on a written review which are too sporadic and often often late.
6.00: '...presumably filmed before the pandemic, I don't remember the last time I was able to sit this close to another person without wearing a mask...' lol
Great video Vincent, I think we can all say THIS is the video we've all been waiting for and you knocked it out of the park with your comprehensive review. Thanks again for all your hard work!
Thank you so much for these quality reviews. Your knowledge is unrivaled and your ability to relay the strengths and weaknesses of these set to laymen is truly unmatched! This review and channel in general is incredible. Thank you!
Hey Vincent, thank you for all your wonderful vids. Could you do a video focussed on the best settings for LG G1 for gaming, HDR and SDR? That would be amazing. 🙏🏽
Wow! Vincent you're the only person on earth to come up with a detailed and very insightful test that no other reviewers have noticed or mentioned and very useful to protentional buyers or even owners who're not aware what they bought. A90J auto dimming on Football match, is worrying the most, followed by shadow details looking flat.
I love my a90j I originally planned on getting the g1 but Sony was available first and my old tv was dead. Honestly had paid full price on Amazon and then it went on sale already by like $204 I contacted them and they gave me the difference back. So in the end was only 2800 totally worth it.
@@dantasticmania8728 I had the A90J and returned it for the G1 Evo. They both are nearly exactly the same. Almost impossible to tell a difference in picture quality. If anything the black look better on the LG which is huge factor in getting OLED. I got the LG because of the superior gaming features and the 4 HDMI 2.1 ports vs 2 (really 1 having to use one as eARC port) gets really old really quick having to unplug the Xbox to watch a movie on bluray or unplug the ps5 to watch TV
Glad I ran across this video. Was considering getting the A90J over the G1, but it appears the difference between these two is not nearly enough to justify the $1,100 price gap.
Thanks for the excellent review, was gonna buy the A90J but I don't want to spend that much for a TV with poor near black gama. Then on top of that an outrageous BestBuy price on the warranty. I think a better approach for me would be to get the A80J at Costco with the free 3 year, inferior warranty which would bring the A80J to half the total cost of the A90J. Seems like not only doesn't any TV does it all but neither does any OLED does it all.
The Sony doesn't have bad near black gamma. Near black varies panel to panel more than the brand. Another A90J might have better near black, and then another G1 might have worse. This has always been the way for OLED and continues with the new 2021 panels.
@@zoominginonstuff8146 Thanks for this info. I didn't get that impression from the video but if this is true then I need to rethink my approach toward buying an OLED. I'll research this further and question some RUclips reviewers about this. You got me real curious now.
@@PSYCHOV3N0M So, you want me to take suggestions from a psycho? Just kidding. I've been waiting a while, there'll always be a better TV the next year. I'm 73, I don't have that much time to wait. I'm also a multimillionaire so it would be no big deal to buy a Sony A80J this year and if I didn't like it it would be no big deal to buy another flagship TV next year. I was also thinking of picking up the Samsung Qn90A and put the better TV in the living room and the other TV in the guest room.
@EVOVIISWE That's a good question and I thought about that before considering the A80J. My feeling is the A90J would be more prone to lighter darks since it has a more relaxed ABL in order to reach those higher peak nits. I would verify this before buying the A80J and if I was wrong than I might get the LG C1 or still get the A80J since it would be considerably less money than the A90J and probably not as bad since it doesn't have the heat sink and has a normal ABL.
To me the A90J have better color and details looking at its brightness. Its a bit brighter than the G1 that is why it is better for movies. The Blacks of G1 for me looks better. Color is a lot better on A90J for watching Television and Movies but to me G1 is the better all rounder! I am a movie addict, player, PC end user and slight content creator and the LG G1 fits my needs.
Glad you are still alive. After watching like ALL of your OLED videos I decided to ditch any new models and decided to go for the C9. Saved me 2 grand and Im very hapoy with my decision. Thanks for your work!
@The Loyal And your opinion matters because you have one also? Perhaps you have some lame ass Samsung LED that you’re trying to compare this to? Mind you I also have an LG 77 inch OLED as well. It never fails to amaze me the people that don’t even own a product can pass judgment on some thing that they have no experience with. God has this world gone nuts!!!
@@petermaz701 Sonys line " revolutionary picture as perceived by the human eye" isn't for nothing. Anyone who actually owns OLEDs will know that this oled is the best tv ever produced for movies and television.
Hey Peter. Looking to upgrade to the A90J from my A8G. The near black issues worry me a bit. Do you notice that when you are watching movies? I also wonder if it's as bad when watching streaming vs physical blu-ray? I'm a real movie buff so I only watch physical discs, cause I want the best picture quality.
@@gabrielpitz1689 When I first got the set, it seemed so different from my previous Sony OLED and Panasonic OLED. But after some breakin time and adjustment it’s now preforming very well. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed it’s just different the whites are really really white and bright and the darks are dark, I did have to raise the luminance to high otherwise the dark scenes were too dark and I couldn’t see anything. Now after a little bit of this fine tuning I think it’s a fantastic TV.
great idea i like the sony 83 for movies as well. i dont like that it gets too bright at times but it is still nice. 83 inch is the way to go but the price is too high right now. wait!
@UCpsdVQKvBs5orcp709AbjzA you must be a lg fan boy it was tied and if not tied clearly A90j has an advantage? If your talking specifically for gaming Sony wins in only one category and that’s SDR and upscaling 1080p content. Obviously lg wins in terms of gaming. I’m probably going for c1 but I’ll wait for the a80j comparisons
@UCpsdVQKvBs5orcp709AbjzA also I forgot to mention if it had HGIG. Without HGIG hdr looks better in gaming on the G1. Either way it’s extremely annoying having to pick and choose. I want lg gaming with Sony upscaling and SDR peak brightness.
I bought the SONY A90J two weeks ago, the picture quality is second to none, the peak brightness is some of the best I saw from a OLED TV, but I have to see the biggest problem for A90J is the static elements dimming, this not only affect game but also RUclips streaming videos as most of them have static logos. It is really disappointing that after all these years, SONY still doesn’t provide an interface to user to disable the ASBL dimming. Believe me, the static elements dimming issue will drive you crazy when playing games which have static HUD displayed even in a small area of the screen.
@@CH-bn7qb Not sure about what game you played bro, but in my case, any game that with a HUD will suffer from this, for example, The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, FF15. Of course for some game you can turn off the HUD in settings then you will not find any dimming, but that is not the case for all games out there. For games without HUD always displayed, like RE village, there is also no dimming.
@@zongyusu it does contain a fixed HUD all the time ? Demons souls I have as well and that is the exact same no dimming ? Are you sure you put the TV in game mode ?
Thank you. This is the video I have been waiting for. I game more than anything and must get a new TV this year since mine broke and now on an old Samsung Edge-lit LED which will not be going with me when I move. So now have come full circle from G1 to QN90A to A90J and now happily settled on a calibrated G1. Your info and humor are priceless.
Although Sony's is 7999,- its still quite a bit more expensive. Taking in account that crappy Mediatek soc I just cant get it. On the other hand, getting a G1 makes me think.... "should I just get the C1 later in the year, which will probably also have the evo panel?" And Panasonic doesnt go over 65". So its just terrible making a decision this year.
If you are gamer then your tv selection as in OLED would overkill. LCD is the best format for playing games on. Now if you also like watching movies as well as gaming then OLED can be a great choice. And for those that are hardcore gaming and watching the odd movie then a high quality LCD would be he best route. OLED performs best when watching movies that are of a high quality image.
@@bighands69 if you game watch movies and sports do you think I should go with the g1 or the Sony a80j I can get them for around the same price at 55in right now I can't decide also I'm gonna mount the TV if that makes a difference
For the A90J being the most expensive OLED TV right now, the raised Black and aggressive auto dimming, as shown in the Football match, is an unforgivable crime.
I'd love for Vince to make a video explaining all these "test patterns", moving circles for "jaggies", smpte, those vertical lines for motion handling....... etc. I don't understand any of them or how they work, what they do and why they're used, so, most of your videos don't make sense until the end of the video when you say your last opinion on which is better over all.
With just the first 4 mins, I know I need to go with G1. Accurate black is what we are looking for from OLED. Sony's wash out black is a deal breaker, let alone the much higher price.
Washed out read reviews barely noticeable and picture quality miles better on A90J only thing G1 bests it A90J on is gaming only slightly which makes A80J and C1 better for gaming budgets lol 🤣
Hey Theo, Will you make a side by side comparison of the A80J and the C1 for us mere mortals??? There are a few videos on RUclips of the two but none of them have the TV's calibrated ! BTW, love your channel... this is my go to channel for reviews!
If only Sony could fix the near black handling it would be a no brainer for me. Will be waiting for Panasonic and look forward to your comparison Vincent.
I think what's interesting with the Panasonic this year, is you have reasonably obvious differences between the model levels, except on the 48" version where it doesn't seem to matter which you get they'll all be the same. That's something I'm interested in seeing more on.
Sony's XR is the gem this generation. But the differences are minimal and the price between them are bigger than needed. We can see these tiny details bcs we see them side by side. The fact that the G1 has absolutely everything for gaming and still has amazing picture quality makes it a better all-around tv.
Hi, Vincent. First of all - thanks for the long years of great reviews. I'm facing a huge dilemma and this review made it ... well ... even worse. Here's the thing - I'm in the process of chosing a new TV. Like a former plasma owner I'm having huge burn-in anxiety. Still - I'm leaning to an OLED due to the better PQ compared to LEDs, with viewing angles, upscaling, black levels and motion among the most important factors. And here comes the big problem - having the above, Sony A90J would be the obvios choice, BUT all your reviews (and others so) gave me the following headache : - A90J is crazy expensive compared to A80J with only significant difference the heatsink actually. Now, if it would mean beatter safety with burn-in, I would gladly pay the price (the higher peak brightness doesn't matter that much to me), BUT many reviewers say A90J is actually getting much, much hotter than A80J, which would eventually mean that A80J would have better lifespan, despite the lack of heatsink. Have in mind I'm planning to use the TV no less than 6-7 years, I simply don't have th funds to change them that often. - A90J have an obvios and glaring motion handling problem (even if we leave a side the QuantumsTV blah-blah). Despite you say it's good - what I see in the videos does not look ok to me at all - tearing and artifacts are really visible and far worse than the LG, let's say. (do you think Sony will do something about it with some new FW, btw) - A90J's problem with the near black handling looks really bad to me and I think it spoils all the good fun with the OLED's black levels superiority. Having this, what would you recommend : - still go for A90J - seriosly consider A80J with the heat/lifespan/burnin potential issue in mind - seriosly consider LG with the motion and near blacks in mind (I hate the LG's pink tint off axis btw.) - just wait for the Panasonic JZ1500 which will probably destroy them all as usual (despite the horrible smart platform which serves for nothing and would make me still retain the AppleTV and my cable provider smartbox fue to that) Really hope to hear your professional advice.
Burn ends are not an issue stop watching those burn in seeker videos. Most of those people who claimed that the TV causes burn ins are those who are reckless and abusive users then claimed that the TV cause the burn ins no! it was the users
@@alambe7275 Are you f-ing kidding me? So you're telling me how should I use my TV? lmao. Burn in ofc is a risk. Just because there is a risk doesn't mean you shouldn't use the TV the way you want. I will watch anything burn in seeker or not. It's my choice. It's not users, they don't do anything to cause burn in. It's the TV cause the burn in. Otherwise why LED TVs don't get any? lmao. That logic is killing me. 🤣
Raised Black and aggressive auto dimming as demonstrated with a Football match, which is more worrying, as it started as brighter than G1 but few mins later, got dimmer than G1!?
@@amitavraja3385 that is true only in sdr. If you plan on watching mostly SDR you have to decide Sony for video processing or LG for slightly higher brightness.
@@foxtrap614tango8 That is true, yet if you do have many equipment (like i do) the HDMI will have huge benefit. Also don't forget, the G1 goes all the way up to 77Inch which is affordable in comparison to A90j which goes from 65inch and next is 83inch. Yet the 83 inch A90J cost is close to £6,999 which is considerably more then 77inch LG G1 at 4799. Again you are right, if one does Gaming the LG G1 is a better choice.
Because I watch in a dark bedroom, I think I'll save the money I go with the G1 as I feel the better dark handling is more noticeable than the better sharpening. Gaming features are nice but for someone who cares mostly about watching 4K HDR Netflix (or other 4K HDR content) the most with as few or least noticeable downsides overall, the G1 seems like the better choice just for the better blacks/shadows. It's also £600 cheaper so that's a massive bonus. If the A90J was worth the extra £600 without a doubt I would've chosen that but the shadow scenes seem to be extremely noticeable. Just finally want a TV to be the best display in the house, not my monitor, phone or tablet/iPad.

Thanks Vincent for another excellent video. It’s ironic that Sony is a gaming console manufacturer but the LG OLED’s seem to be a better choice for gamers, while the Sony’s are better for people like me- a movie/Tv/Sports enthusiast, who hasn’t played a video game since the 1970’s. Cheers mate
I wouldn't say the Sony is always better for movies, TV and sports. I have owned both returning the Sony for the LG and you wouldn't be able to tell a difference in picture quality with each being better at certain things. In dark scenes the LG blows the Sony out of the water. I guess if you have a collection of standard DVD content then the Sony is better there. But who isn't watching 4k blurays. The lack of hdmi 2.1 ports on the Sony was dealbreaker for me. The fact that LG is 1000$ less is unreal. Returned a90j got the g1 and then got a 1000$ surround sound system and buying a 9.2 reciever so now I have a 5.2.4 atmos system with a TV just as good quality at the Sony
Amazing analysis Vincent. Unlike other channels, the way you explain the technicalities helps me understand the cause and effect of the settings. Great work.
@@MasterEggroll I'm not just gaming on consoles so VRR is important to me. Sony has been promising VRR for years, I doubt it's coming to A90J. There is also no excuse to not include (4) hdmi 2.1 ports on a flagship model in 2021.
Fantastic work as usual, much appreciated. Is there a solid argument against positioning the HX310 closer to the camera so it has the same angle of view as the larger OLEDs being compared to it?
@@hdtvtest Thanks for responding, Vincent. I agree that it is very challenging dealing with shallow depth of field when your lens is wide open! It's just that the reference monitor looks SO good, I was hoping to see it with the same angle of view as the 55" panels.

You just made me cancel my LG CX order. I'm going to wait until Black Friday and pick up the G1. I have the C8 which can actually hit 900 nits in a 10% windows but lacks 120 FPS at 1440 and 4K. The CX looks just tad too dim, but the G1 cost a full thousand more. However I have the full $2K for the CX with three pay checks coming October makes up the difference by Black Friday. Next year I'll upgrade my Denon from IC X3500 to whatever the new hotness is named.
I like the Sony a little bit better but not at that price. $3800 before tax is a hard pill to swallow. The most I've paid for a TV was $2750 after tax which puts the G1 Black Friday deal within reach. I wall mount my 3 4K sets and the G1 gap suppose to disappear with the mount. I'm also use to the C8 brightness while maintaining near perfect blacks. I saw the CX at Best Buy and thought it looked a bit dim. The C1 was available as well and looked just as dim. I've not seen the G1 in person yet but from what I've seen on videos it's damn impressive. C8 brightness with better than CX gaming features and better black to gray transition than my mighty C8. With that said if I had the C9 I wouldn't need to upgrade due to its 4K 120hz mode.

@@brokenwrench404 LG has started nerffing their C series with the C9 being the last great one. I think the G1 only gets as bright as the C9 but it has better picture processing. I screwed up when I purchased the C8. I could have gotten the C9 for $300 more. All the RUclipsrs were saying there's no 120hz at 4K content so the C8 was the better buy. The CX had a plethora of firmware issues being raised blacks to posterization while in some ways being inferior to the C9. Can't get as bright, lower color gradient, can't do DTS via E arc. The G1 on the other only lacks DTS but can get close in brightness, improved input lag, and has a 4K OTA Turner. The G1 also has flush wall mounting capabilities. The C8 sticks out 3 inches so it can look distracting some times.
Hi Vince, like always the best comparison video on the internet. I miss in the comparison of that pink tint, a small summary between the performance of the OS, the fact, that the sony support DTS and color accuracy out of the box.
Between gaming (VRR and the like), the need for more than 1 HDMI 2.1 port / eARC, and the near black handling, the G1 is what I will probably end up with personally. Cheers for the review Vincent.
VRR is eventually gonna come to Sony TVs without issues such today's Sony's VRR implementation being 60 Hz. A90J supports eARC too. I don't know why would someone need more than 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. 1 is for the PC and the second is for a console if you have one. 3rd might be for a set top box? Why though? Do they support 10 bit colors? A90J supports 2 HDMI 2.1 ports btw, not just 1. What is near black handling btw? Does it have to do with A90J is being washed out in dark and lost shadow details?
@@RobertK1993 Ahahahahaha, not at all. I mean the difference is just too little that nobody would care except purist elitists. A90J has a really big issue with blacks as it gets washed out on dark areas and lacks shadow detail which is the purpose of OLED. The whole purpose of OLED is the black levels and when A90J can't deliver the same quality as LG does and scr** black levels it totally kills the purpose. So A90J has better picture quality only in not dark areas and in some when it doesn't get issues. Sound quality doesn't even matter as you can always and should buy a soundbar. And LG's soundbars are better. ;D Also A80J's sound quality isn't that impressive, dunno about A90J's. But I think it wouldn't be much better than A80J's anyway. Nah, this comparison just shows the picture quality, not even sound quality and it outright shows it, it doesn't need to believe sh*t. Failing to realize the comparison isn't even about sound quality and while it's showing it that you think it needs to believe it YOU're the one with Sony bias. lmao. He's honest, he's always telling pros and cons of any TV. He's always telling pros of Sony's too.
@@YavNe You do not know these idiots at Sony will not botch the implementation, plus the time they've already wasted WITHOUT it being implemented is time you aren't getting back. As for HDMI 2.1, yea, it has two...the problem? One of them is the eARC port... So if you want to plug in your PC and next gen console (which I have personally), and a nice speaker setup via eARC...well you're shit out of luck and need to explore other options. Near black handling is went over in this video, and you talked about in your other comment here. All in all, it's bullshit that I personally wouldn't deal with. If I had needed a TV at this time, I would absolutely have skipped the Sony for the LG. I plan to pick one up this coming year, and if they pull this again, they'll once again be off my list.
I like these technical reviews and I think this is one of the best ones out there by all means especially the comparison with the reference OLED monitor. However, I can't help but feel that most of us don't even calibrate our OLED TVs. One of the things that struck me here was the sudden dip in light from the LG as the light peaked which suggests that their light sensor isn't as smooth/sophisticated as the Sony's. The other thing was the logo dimming on the Sony which is pretty scary while watching sports - you don't want the content to dim so much. I personally use the light sensor on my Sony TV and I have never detected a sudden decrease. The reason I use it is because my TV is in a living room and obviously the light varies from 750 to 50 lux during the day. I think this will be the case for most people. There's no calibration that will make a TV look the same while I'm watching a 2 hour F1 race which starts on a bright day and ends with downcast weather that would make my TV look like a flashlight if the light sensor didn't correct it and tone the brightness down. I think the light sensor is extremely important in balancing a picture's image. Another things that is probably very, very important for most consumers is out-of-box calibration. Obviously, the better the picture is out of the box, the better the TV will work for the vast majority of folks.

As I’m mainly using at tv for 4K HDR and gaming I decided on the LG. Those blacks were insane. Thanks for helping making the right decision for my needs.
Surprised to see LG is stronger near black and with 24p motion interpolation. I think for a lot of people these two traits make up a large proportion of their purchase decision. When you consider how much cheaper the C1/G1 is, it's difficult to make a case for the Sony IMO.
@@consilience5694 you must've misheard. VT said LG's cinematic motion was better than Sony's Smoothness 1. This is also something he covered in the LG G1 review when he said LG's new interpolation is the best he's ever seen for 24p.
Your content is great, as always. But if I can ask you, please, put something under the lower TV to make the displays match each other in height. Viewer from Brazil.
Updated the LG CX 55 Inch on the new FW 03.21.21 and I have noticed my TV is a lot dimmer in SDR/HDR and I'm not the only one people on AV Forums and RUclips have said that their CX is dimmer not all but some. Now LG has removed the software for CX from most of their international sites and stuck with a dim TV. I hope LG isn't purposely dimming down the CX to sell the newer OLED's as brighter.
The CX is dim because they were trying to prevent burn in which is a heat issue. Running it too bright would cause burn in. There's a reason why both Panasonic and Sony use a heatsink in their flagship OLED models.
@@NamTran-hi8ym Yes I understand that but HDR movies and games have to be maxed out on the CX, that's the way HDR works but still find it dim both in SDR/HDR, this is my first OLED and maybe I'm just to the brighter TV's I had which were Samsung Q90T and Q80T and other 4K midrange TV's, they were all great TV's for gaming but for movies they were terrible with blooming and light leakage which really bothered me that's why I went for OLED.
@@robertobuatti7226 Talking about their peak brightness, LG kept them intentionally low to prevent burn ins that were prevalent on older models. Imagine trying to run an Evo brightness (like say the A90j levels) on a stock C1 panel and you're probably going to degrade your panel much faster, especially since there's no heatsink on it. The CX's are intentionally dimmer for that reason.
@@NamTran-hi8ym Yes that's very true but I also heard their older OLEDS like the E6 era burned in much faster because of the red sub pixel wearing out faster which they changed a couple of years ago so the newer OLEDS are made different and they didn't have LOGO Luminance on the older OLEDs, that came around for C8 I think and onwards.
A couple more important differences to me: WebOS vs GoogleTV as well as ongoing software support from LG/Sony (for how many years does each manufacturer continue to update their TV firmware/OS?).
Thanks for a great in depth look into both tvs. Vincent I have found that enabling boost mode on the lg g1 raises brightness/gamma, confirmed when looking at a black pluge pattern and switching between the two. Do you know about this? For this reason I have switched back to standard mode in the game optimiser setup.
Don't over think it. Just get the A80J. It's a much better TV. Don't buy into the 4k/120 marketing hype. It'll be years and another console generation before that is the norm. And by then you'll be wanting to upgrade to a better TV anyway.
@@Kingepticon I don’t want to have to upgrade to the ps6. Right now the dual cell from hisense has me hyped because it seems to be the perfect medium of brightness and black levels. But my major issue with a80j and 90j is washed out blacks but that may just be a 90j thing. Even then though I wish hisense if there dual cell launch is successful eventually make a 55” because while mini led is struggling it seems dual cell for 2021 and 2022 will DOMINATE. That MediaTek SoC is really holding Sony back. I hope they can get their HDMI 2.1 gaming features working this fall. At this price point people want the “best” of both worlds and LG’s full suite of HDMI 2.1 feature across all HDMI ports make it the winner for most gamers, especially with a 4K Switch Pro on the horizon. Vincent, if Sony delivers their VRR, ALLM update to the A90J will you please review its implementation? Personally I’m going to wait until the end of the year to see if this actually happens this winter as they say it will. LG engineers who pushed for the development of their own SoC should be promoted as a lot of gamers consider LG the only choice right now.
One feature that no one has reviewed is the new color sensor that the A90J come with - it's a very interesting feature as it can actually color-correct the TV's picture along with the light sensor based on the lighting conditions in the room - the conditions in a room look very different when the sun is shining compared to when it's setting or overcast and up until now there was no way to correct the color itself, only the brightness. This feature will obviously trickle down to more TVs and devices down the road and it's a feature that can improve/impact normal viewing quality conditions more than the panel itself so the fact that it hasn't been reviewed is a bit strange.
@@techsamurai11 Thought I explained it. Each light sensor is color filtered, so the brightness is adjusted per primary color. It has the effect of adapting to the ambient color temperature of the room(while still adapting to overall brightness as well), but isn't really much more high tech than existing technology, it's just pretty clever.
Thank you for the factual and detail comparison between these two amazing TVs. Once I get G1 I would not hesitate to use your services for calibration. :D
I don’t remember the last time I sat that close to someone without protection.. I would choose the G1 for the 2.1 features and deep blacks although it’s a shame about the brightness issue.
Hi Vincent.... I regulary keep track of your videos when I am in the market for a new tv. Got a Sony 55 A8G last year which is working as it should. Now I have the PS5, XBox Series X and a pc with 3090. I generally use my tv for 6-8 hrs per day for OTT content and gaming. My AV receiver (Onkyo TX RZ800) doesnt support HDMI 2.1. I am looking for the best PQ overall. Which TV should I get... The G1 or A90J?
I will not buy Sony TVs even though they do have good processors but LG is so much better and it’s affordable Sony 83 inch TV $10,000 LG 83 inch TV $5000 I refuse to go out like a sucker and let Sony rip me off
A really useful video, so thank you. Would you ever consider doing a video about aftermarket VESA stands for if the manufacturer stands aren't suitable? I'd love to get the G1 but my TV stand is not wide enough.
FWIW, the Kanto TTS100 is a nice stand for 55" and 65" OLEDs. It has infinite height adjustment so you can put the TV at any height you want, it uses an all-metal design constructed without plastic or glass, the base of the stand doesn't stick out too far in front of the screen, and it has decent swivel range.
@@lvlechanicalMan Ah thank you. It's a bit more expensive than most, but if it's a good quality one then I may put it on my "consider" list. Thank you :)
It's a shame the Sony has the logo / static dimming which can't be disabled. I hope it's not the same for the 2021 Panasonic OLEDs because the dimming is awful for gaming. Might just have to go for the 77C1.
I’ve been gaming on my A90J for over a month haven’t noticed any dimming at all ?? Playing warzone and RE village it’s more the opposite the image is bright and sharp with insane HDR
In almost all reviews, the LG G1 or C1 wins in darkness detail with truer blacks, better shading and therefor better depth - closer to the reference monitor, which one could argue is the whole point of getting an OLED so it should automatically win a comparison - but the Sony A90J always gets called the better OLED. Sony wins in ABL and bright saturated color but if that's what one is looking for then an LCD may be a better choice, no?

Legend. I wonder if you could do a video explaining the difference between the panels on the C2 42-48” and C2 55” and above. Especially for Gaming and PC Use.
Debating between a90j vs c1 for Pc gaming connected via 3080. LG ticks the obvious boxes like VRR and input lag but I’m primarily concerned about brightness. I heard the C1 caps at 200 nits for SDR gaming which is what the vast majority of games are, but static elements basically trigger the same on the Sony. So as long as the opacity for the HUD elements is adjustable is it correct to assume the Sony would be brighter in most scenarios?
As always, Vincent is master of his domain with the best content available. Thanks again for your dedication to the in depth, technical reviews. I’m hoping my budget allows for one of these models later this year or next!
The picture quality is pristine on the A90J. It has to be seen in person to be believed. Best image processing I've ever seen.
If you are big tv or movie fan. SDR or HDR I can't recommend the A90j enough.
HDR is the best ever produced on an OLED but not enough recognition is being shown for SDR handling. SDR is the biggest step up I've ever seen.

And here comes the big problem - having the above, Sony A90J would be the obvios choice, BUT all your reviews (and others so) gave me the following headache :
- A90J is crazy expensive compared to A80J with only significant difference the heatsink actually.
(do you think Sony will do something about it with some new FW, btw)
- A90J's problem with the near black handling looks really bad to me and I think it spoils all the good fun with the OLED's black levels superiority.
Having this, what would you recommend :
- still go for A90J
- seriosly consider A80J with the heat/lifespan/burnin potential issue in mind
- seriosly consider LG with the motion and near blacks in mind (I hate the LG's pink tint off axis btw.)
- just wait for the Panasonic JZ1500 which will probably destroy them all as usual (despite the horrible smart platform which serves for nothing and would make me still retain the AppleTV and my cable provider smartbox fue to that)
Really hope to hear your professional advice.

Is there a solid argument against positioning the HX310 closer to the camera so it has the same angle of view as the larger OLEDs being compared to it?

Hi Vince, like always the best comparison video on the internet. I miss in the comparison of that pink tint, a small summary between the performance of the OS, the fact, that the sony support DTS and color accuracy out of the box.
Bend over ill show you pink tint
Between gaming (VRR and the like), the need for more than 1 HDMI 2.1 port / eARC, and the near black handling, the G1 is what I will probably end up with personally.
Cheers for the review Vincent.
Sony Bravia A90J has better picture and sound quality this comparison isn't only and believe this has bit LG bias

Obviously, the better the picture is out of the box, the better the TV will work for the vast majority of folks.
because calibration tech person is very difficult to find now and getting someone to calibrate HDR is almost in possible to have done.
If you want better out of box calibration definitely get Sony a90j over LG g1.

Surprised to see LG is stronger near black and with 24p motion interpolation. I think for a lot of people these two traits make up a large proportion of their purchase decision. When you consider how much cheaper the C1/G1 is, it's difficult to make a case for the Sony IMO.

A90J has a better upscalling, especially for old 720p or 480p games, and more brightness in explosions, but LG has a better contrast.
Lg only has better contrast in some specific dark scenes, in the others Sony has more contrast and a better and sharp picture.
They should switch suppliers for SoC or make own as it will get more gamers buy Sony Bravia TVs
AFAIK, it's actually suprisingly low tech. It just uses 3 light detectors instead of 1, one for each color, and adjusts color channels independently.
@@Bubu567 How does it work though?
@@techsamurai11 Thought I explained it. Each light sensor is color filtered, so the brightness is adjusted per primary color.
