Please note that the firmware for the LG C3 will not allow you to turn off "auto dimming" via the Service Menu as you could with the C2. The Service Menu that could be accessed by a service remote allowed this was removed. Although there is still a way to access the menu, this solution is unsatisfactory since the TV will revert to the old settings and wipe out calibrations if the TV is turned off.
    LG needs to fix this.

@@tombradysr.8048 no it’s just a little bit of peak brightness, everything else is the same, you’d hardly notice it side by side, but in a scientific setting where you’re testing nits, it is indeed less bright than the bigger 55’+ models. I don’t think it would bother you. I have a 27 LG Oled monitor and I believe it has less brightness than all of them and I absolutely adore that monitor, it’s the best monitor on the market imo. The only situation it might perform worse is in a very bright room with a ton of natural light, if you’re in a light controlled environment or a dimmer room, it’s going to look lovely. Enjoy your TV, don’t look for someone to talk you out of liking it, decide for yourself and your particular use case. If you don’t like it, and don’t mind 27’ check out the LG GR95QE, it’s 770 at Costco right now and I’ve seen it for 690 at B&H. Enjoy your new monitor!

To me, true to life picture quality and dark scene detail is most important in gaming and movie watching. 3ms input lag difference doesn't offset that in the least bit, nor will it make a difference to any gamer that isn't making a living gaming (If you think it does, then you think you're better than what you are). If you're making a living gaming, then input lag on a TV still doesn't matter, because you're sponsored by Asus or some other brand that will give you the best monitor on the market anyway.

I almost bought the Sony model (55") and then discovered, to my disappointment, that the supplied legs are spaced so far apart that they are wider than my corner located glass TV stand (which is 80cm wide). Even though they give you two positions for the legs, they are still too wide apart. I'm not prepared to change my furniture just to fit a new TV, so I have opted for the LG which has a more sensible centre support stand. A bad design decision Sony!!

I'm skeptical of the picture processing. Why wouldn't this be more of a thing in the computer monitor space? It's not as much of a topic of discussion there. And why would one want their images altered by a computer chip using algorithms? Why wouldn't you want it raw so you really see the image data?
I think you should calibrate the two TVs using the same tools and standard and you may find them looking virtually identical then. The various modes of a TV, like "cinema," are altering it to taste, but not showing the real image.

Lg has terrible color gradation. For example, a scene depicting a sunset or sunrise will show bands of orange as opposed to a smooth gradient. This is because the processor isn’t as advanced as the Sony’s, and it sucks because it can ruin great scenes. For the price, I expect LG to do way better. This is the main reason I sold my C1, it would ruin great scenes in movies and games.

What is auto dimming and why is it bad?

    • @stevetucker5575
      @stevetucker5575 10 месяцев назад

Back in 2018, I bought a brand new LG C8 OLED TV. I was and still am blown away by the brightness, vibrancy and sharpness of the incredible pictures it produces. However.... that was until the auto dimming constantly kicked in and drained the picture of all life.
Basically Auto dimming is an inbuilt function for preventing screen burn in OLED TV'S. Because it turns out that while OLED TV's produce the brightest, most vibrant pictures of all the various formats, they are also the most susceptible to screen burn. It would appear that having discovered this, the manufacturers like LG and Sony tried to reduce the risk of screenburn by utilising software that dims the picture as soon as it detects a static image within the broadcast. I.E the score in the corner of a football match, a broadcaster's on screen logo. The kind of permanent onscreen graphics one always sees on news channels and sports broadcasts. No matter how lovingly and patiently I tweaked my image settings on my beautiful TV, within a minute or so of a football match playing or similar, the screen would very, very noticeably dim to protect itself. It was soul destroying. The very reason for buying this expensive magnificent TV was for the stunning pictures it was capable of and here it was relentlessly draining the life out of it.
And there is no way to turn it off.
Yes there were certain settings you could change but the core dimming process could not be turned off.
Well not officially anyway. It turned out that by entering the engineers menu, it could be turned off but that would void the warranty.
So I had a choice, put up with the constant dimming or turn it off by accessing the 'secret' menu.
Well, eventually, after a few months of seeing my beautiful TV constantly dim, I did precisely that. Following advice on a user forum I bought a special remote control off the internet, entered the 'magic ' code or sequence of buttons ( I can't remember exactly what it was I did now) and hey presto I could turn it off! No more dimming, no more losing vibrancy brightness, and colour.
My picture was always perfect, always wonderful just as I wanted it....
Problem was within 3 months it was riddled with burnt in logos, muted volume signs and scrolling news banners. My beautiful TV is ruined because the screen isn't able to cope with the pictures it produces. And the manufacturers know this, hence the aggressive auto dimming to prevent it.
Yet not a mention of whether or not it's an issue still with these reviews.
