@@micdoses1 Yeah i've enjoyed the whole 0 times a fullscreen white actually happened. The only time that actually might happen is if you're using a non-dark-mode browser.
One thing that's worth investigating is how aggressively the A90J dims the screen when it detects static UI elements, mostly in games. When playing Monster Hunter Rise (SDR) which has a lot of bright white UI elements, it was very obviously dimming them after a few minutes which detracted from my enjoyment of gaming on the TV. I started getting paranoid that the screen was always dimming during gaming so I ended up returning it and swapping it out with a C1 where I have more control over logo luminance and ABSL.

As of Rtings measurements: No ... the A90J achieved 277 nits and the C1 302 nits. But full field white (100% window) was 185 nits vs only 131 nits on the C1 ... although white rabbits in a snow field do not appear quite often in content ;-)

Hi Vincent, I hope you could answer my question 🙏 What about motion handling on the A90J? I heard and read on different sources that the motion handling on the A90J is bad and has issues like stutter, especially with slow panning shots. What is your opinion and experience with that? I'm thinking of buying the 83" A90J in 2024 because the price went down a lot in The Netherlands for a new A90J. Thanks!
I did see the a90j in person recently. And it really is doing some nice things w/HDR highlight detail. U can tell it's using it's brightness in those areas to really enhance the scene. But not enough for that price tag still.
Hi Vincent, I know it is not ideal, but do you recommend this TV to be used outdoors (covered by full stone structure) with direct sunlight/glare? (83 inch). Love your channel!

Well done G1 is overpriced for the upscaling motion processing colour accuracy same brightness as last year GX CX and C9. You are better of buying A80J or C1 or even A1 if just a gamer.
Yes you're right the A90J or even the A80J are both better TVs overall than the G1, C1, GX, CX combine and the list goes on, i will always go for a Sony Oled TV or Panasonic over the others brands because i'm purist i love picture quality first, that's i buy Tvs.
Great picture quality but seems like sony doesn't care about gamers, no HGIG, no VRR, only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, and $4000 dlls for a 65" size 😑. Great review Vincent 👍👏.
The problem is if you want larger than 65-in on the A90j the price more than doubles, once you watch anything on a good quality 75 inch screen there is no going back, the whole picture just becomes much more enjoyable to watch ....
While I agree on the big screen immersion but 1080i/FHD content on such a big screen looks soft n tad pixelated unless you sit 20 feet back. I personally prefer the 55 with it's higher pixel density. Quite the sweet spot if you sit 8 feet away.
Unless you don't have space for 75 compared to 65 lol. You should be sitting about 2 metres further back and that means a rather large room is needed unless you want to damage your eyesight over time.

I say I’m looking forward to Vincent’s comparison because he takes measurements using equipment I don’t have access to. But I also judge with my own two eyes and I purchase my sets myself to compare. Now while the A90 is brighter, it’s not a huge crazy difference from the A80. The new processor drives these OLEDs differently. The A80 & 90 are the top two brightest OLEDs available in the US. As a ps5 only gamer. The TV does everything what it needs. Hope they can solve the hdr 120 however. Not that I will use It alot as most games will not play on 120.
also HDR 120 is not important since 120 will be used for multiplayer games where you don't really care about the visuals and you won't have that problem on single player games since they are 60fps and where HDR actually matters.
It's also possible to retain detail by using reality creation w/smooth gradation on med. While keeping annoying color gradients smoothed out to perfection w/out detail loss.

That he'll surely do, but now I want to see G1 vs A90J
As a C9 owner, it’s been fun watching you guys figure out if these new tvs are an upgrade or a downgrade!!
Yeah right! I have a C9 aswell and it pretty much seems like they're pretty much just where we already were for quite some time :D
Enjoying the 150 nits are you...
@@micdoses1 I just think it’s badass that my old 2019 OLED is brighter than 2021 LG OLED’s. Makes me feel good about spending that money in 2019.
@@TheSharpZzHD The C9 might not have the best motion, best picture processing, and new UI but being brighter than the new C1 just tickles 🤗 the hell out of me!!!
What are your thoughts in the 2 tvs?
@@checarlos956214 They are both great TVs. If I exclusively watched movies/series I would have kept the A90J but I spend a lot of time gaming so end preferring the additional knobs that LG has.
Hello Vincent! Does the A90J also have increased SDR brightness compared to regular OLED TVs that don't use a panel with heat sink? Thank you in advance and for the great in-depth videos!

I can’t believe it’s a almost $1000 per 10” of screen lol.
For the 83” of course
Hi Vincent, I know it is not ideal, but do you recommend this TV to be used outdoors (covered by full stone structure) with direct sunlight/glare? (83 inch). Love your channel!
Great review Vincent. Would love a settings video on this set.
Vincent, I'd love to see a video on your best A90J/A80J settings for PS5 and best settings for movies/streaming. Lots of folks, including me, are getting those TVs to match with the PS5. Thanks for all your awesome info and videos!!
Vincent, will it be possible that Sony adjusts the 'insufficient' near black handling in the calibrating settings by firmware update?
Would love to know the answer to this as well.
Do you recommend calibrating the A90j? Mine seems good out of the box. But one doesn’t know what one doesn’t know.
Great video as always Vincent ! A90J owner here, is the 4K 120hz posterization issue you mention here, is this present on the LG C1 or G1 ?

Vincent's 2017 video about Sony XE93 make me bought that tv. Now it's happening again with this Sony A90J 😄
i am looking forward to see a comparison between the A90 j et the jz 2000 from panasonic
No pixel problems on CRT, nice video, regards from Serbia.
A90J owner here. Hands down the best OLED TV I’ve ever had. Forget LG. Sony FTW! 👊🏻😎
Are you willing to pay $1,000 more just to get a little more brightness that you could only use in one mode plus Sony like all the features that Samsung and LG has how much better is the picture it's debatable
@@chinkc96kc More than that better motion upscaling sound and Dolby Vision HDR has never looked brighter than on A90J it's only 500 more where I live not everyone cares about HDMI 2.1 gaming features gamers irrelevant to most TV manufacturers. LG G1 has VRR and ALLM over A90J that not enough to justify 2500 when Sony A90J outperforms it in every other area.
Well done G1 is overpriced for the upscaling motion processing colour accuracy same brightness as last year GX CX and C9. You are better of buying A80J or C1 or even A1 if just a gamer.
Waiting for mine to arrive! I’m so excited
Yes you're right the A90J or even the A80J are both better TVs overall than the G1, C1, GX, CX combine and the list goes on, i will always go for a Sony Oled TV or Panasonic over the others brands because i'm purist i love picture quality first, that's i buy Tvs.
Great review. That black level and lack of control issue is not the answer or fix I was looking for. I'd like them to improve on this.
Great picture quality but seems like sony doesn't care about gamers, no HGIG, no VRR, only 2 HDMI 2.1 ports, and $4000 dlls for a 65" size 😑. Great review Vincent 👍👏.
Hey NOT TRUE AT ALL only a mere $3800 after recent discounts lol
Spot on!
12:38 This guy goes from incredibly serious technical talk to jokes like this 😂 hands down the best TV analysis on RUclips.
@@DEVILTAZ35 you are totally wrong about the optimal distance of watching 4 k TVs, it about 1.5 X the diagonal size of your screen,

When will we see the A80J review? Need a comparison to A90J and LG C1...
Ultshra sho shro projecto. Love it, Vincent. Next year might be the year I get an OLED. Hoping four HDMI 2.1 ports and Evo panels are standard by then. And the VRR raised black level issue fixed.

Great review. Would you go with the 65” Sony A90J or 77” LG C1 at a 9-10 ft sitting distance? I watch a mixture or 1080 cable (sports) 4K movies and gaming. Thanks!
77 inch is always going to look better due to larger screen real-estate compared to worrying about brighter smaller panel. If you mostly watch in a dark room it won't matter as much anyway really.

Excellent review as always Vincent. Now the comparison we all will be waiting for is the A80J vs A90J to see just how powerful that XR processor really is. If it makes the A80J hang in there with the A90J, then Sony needs accolades for this new processor.
Nobody but the foolish is waiting for this. The little girls on the AVS forum who are delusional thinking the 80J is as good.
@@cmpmeridian1 Well seeing as I have both A90 & A80 sitting in front of me right now. I beg to differ. One slightly edging out the other in hdr brightness. That’s about it. Everything else is equal.
How do they both compare in the Vivid picture mode are the close in brightness and color ? Or is there a noticeable difference. Thx
@@IntotheFurther. I have owned them both, the 80J lacks brightness and HDR specular highlights. There is absolute no comparison.
@@IntotheFurther. it’s much more than slight. The 80J is over 200 nits less in the 10% HDR window. It’s not a litt bit. Than the specular highlights advantage of the 90J do not exist on the 80J

They didn't have the C1 or g1 on displays unfort. Only issue for me is I'm trying to dual use the a90j as a monitor and 55 inch gives higher dpi and is prob right at the upper limit of what can be reasonably used as a pc monitor lol. 65 would be nice for immersion in gaming but far too large for browsing/coding etc
@HDTVTest would you still recommend this tv if I could buy it new?
Incredible review The A90J has the best picture quality so far I seen in the 2021 models .
sony oled tv from the box has the best set picture and no calibration is required. while with lg OLED tv the picture from the box is not well adjusted, and the picture must be calibrated. because of that sony, at first glance it has a nicer picture
I agree
This was my dream TV. Still is, but with the absolute bargain of 1150 EUR for 65 CX it was hard to justify and I'm watching and typing this on the LG
As a ps5 only gamer. The TV does everything what it needs. Hope they can solve the hdr 120 however. Not that I will use It alot as most games will not play on 120.
The 120Hz is less of a problem compared to VRR.
Most console games are still coded for LOCKED framerates which defeats the purpose of having VRR.
also HDR 120 is not important since 120 will be used for multiplayer games where you don't really care about the visuals and you won't have that problem on single player games since they are 60fps and where HDR actually matters.
It's also possible to retain detail by using reality creation w/smooth gradation on med. While keeping annoying color gradients smoothed out to perfection w/out detail loss.
A1E owner chiming in, I just wanted to say how disappointing it is that four years later Sony is still being stingy with its HDMI ports.
