@@christinedaae7323 The beast's costume at the Disney parks doesn't need to look like his 2017 counterpart. His new costume is already perfect. Im talking about that if they bring LeFou to life at the Disney Parks, they have him be the only character to be based on his animated and 2017 live action counterpart. I feel they should stay true to josh gad's version a little bit so that LeFou looks a little more human with more depth.

This version adds various details to the story. For example, the reason why the curse falls on all the people in the castle, in fact, when the sorceress arrives everyone giggles or otherwise look at her a little bad.
Moreover the connection between The Prince and Belle is more understandable, because now he's educated and appreciates Books like her

The thing is, in the original, they basically had it so The Enchantress (Agatha in the remake) cursed a spoiled young prince ("The rose she had offered...would bloom until his 21st year", "But the Rose has already begun to wilt", "Ten years we've been rusting, needing so much more than dusting"), as opposed to the adult he was depicted as in the stained glass prologue. In the original, especially via the _Enchanted Christmas_ mid-quel, it was confirmed that the spoiled prince's parents died during his formative years, so he was left as an orphan reagent with only the castle servants to attend him & teach him the ways of expected noble behavior (this would include the rule of "sacred hospitality" towards the less fortunate that was to be expected of royalty from that time period, which gives a credible explanation as to why The Enchantress cursed him when he not only spurned her gift offering of a magical flower in exchange for a place to spend the night during a harsh winter storm, but he deliberately cast her out simply based on her disguise as an old beggar woman due to his own vanity). In the remake, they make The Beast more educated so as to be in line with Emma's well-read Belle, whereas the original had Belle teaching The Beast how to read in a deleted scene (which was added back in with the "Human Again" musical number).

I liked how they used Cruella's clothing and color palette to reflect which part of her psyche she was portraying (from pure, sweet "Ella" to pretending to be Ella while also being Cruella...I liked how they used both black and white with this persona....to then straight up being Cruella again, with all the furs and bold makeup and bad-assery) Glenn Close was PERFECT as Cruella and it looked like she was having a blast playing this villain.

9:55 I’ve seen this comment on how Gaston is “nicer” on the remake. He isn’t. He’s less cartoonish. The original Gaston was already a villain more on the lines of Frollo and Hans, not a supernatural threat, but a type of person you can see existing in real life. But he was still basically a talking caricature. His “It’s not right for a woman to read. Soon she starts having ideas and thinking,” line is so ridiculously on the nose, it’s hard to imagine it coming out of the mouth of the most misogynistic guy on the planet. “Women are less suited for intelectual activities”? Absolutely. “You’ll intimidate your future husband by being smart”? For sure. “You should worry about your future family and children” (which is pretty similar to a line from remake Gaston)? Yes, they would say that. But “It’s bad for women to think”? Even a misogynist would phrase that in a way to make him sound less like a misogynist.
To be clear, there is nothing wrong with having your villain be a caricature, especially in a children’s movie from the original’s time period, but people who are casually sexist won’t be able to recognize their problematic behavior when their image of a sexist is as one dimensional as original Gaston. So to create more nuance, remake Gaston is less direct with his misogyny, though he’s still fairly one-note and not very complex.
At least you recognized that he’s still a horrible person. I’ve seen people saying that he was polite, that Belle was rude to him and should’ve given him a chance. Those are the kind of people who condone real life Gastons. Who think the only reason Belle could reject Gaston in the original was because he was a monster from the beginning, and not because she wasn’t interested in him. When these people see a woman being pestered with “chivalry” or requests for affection by a man she declined, they think she should give him a chance, after all, he’s so nice. It doesn’t matter that she’s not interested in him. What matters is that he wants her. Those are the real life Gastons.

    • @TheCommenterDragon
      @TheCommenterDragon 6 дней назад

Well, at least he seemed a bit nicer to Lefou in the remake. Unlike in the animated film, because in the original movie Gaston saw Lefou as nothing more than a common lackey and a punching bag.

If I can be honest here, my favorite part of this whole movie is the song "Evermore". The Beast lamenting over Belle, and saying how much she means to him, all while watching her leave the castle to look for her father is both a complete 180 in character progression and a bittersweet revelation. And while that is a good moment, I will gladly stick to the 1991 movie with Angela Lansbury playing Mrs. Potts. It tripped me up seeing the woman who played Professor Trelawney from Harry Potter playing mrs. Potts in this movie.

One thing I enjoy about this version is giving details from the actual fairy tale. Belle, in the story, has many siblings, and when her father was going to the market, the siblings asked for gowns, jewelry, etc. while Belle just asked for a rose. When the father reached the castle, everything was laid out for him to enjoy. He was giving the punishment after getting a rose for Belle. I highly recommend reading the story or seeing another adaptation because there's so many details that I didn't mention. I enjoy the film, and I really enjoy your reactions. Look forward to seeing more in the future.

They are from Paris in the original written story (le belle and la bete) and her father was a clock maker, and in real life Emma was born in Paris. This was her dream role from a very young age. She earned it, and this movie is still one of my favorites. A lot of people don't realize Belle and her Father used to live in Paris. And that Beauty and the beast is set in France in the mid 1700's. I actually had an argument about it with someone, one day. Because he didn't believed me. It's shown and said several times though. Either with the song 'be our guest' witch is clearly referencing to french culture and food. Or the names of the characters. Le fou (LeFou), in french means "the crazy". Belle, well... Beauty. Maurice is a name that comes from latin, and is very usual in French. Gaston is an european name (german if I'm not mistaken) and used in France, maybe even more back then... And there's the 'Bonjour' repeated several times in the first song... And so on.
I actually love the characters and the casting choice for that live action ! Also, the french accent is on point on the french words said in the live action ! Loved that, especially since it's set in France but they all speak english (since it's a disney and stuff, it's normal) but that's why I appreciate the french prononciation when it's used ^^. They did good on that.
Also, about womens right to an education in France, a law came in 1850 to incite the creation of schools for girls. But in the 1700's when this took place... No, girls where not supposed to learn to read, or go to school. They were deamed less than man, and a women that was like Belle was indeed considered suspicious. Because women where supposed to only get married and have kids, and they thought education was not needed for those two things.

The request and theft of the rose is actually from the original "Beauty and the Beast" (or "La Belle et La Bete") by Gabrielle de Villeneuve. I loved that they went back to the story's roots that way, and it made a lot more sense for the plot and motives. The Beast should have known not to spurn someone in need of shelter, after what happened with the Enchantress. The line between hospitality and trespassing (like the contrast between "Be Our Guest" and the defense of the castle against the mob) is much clearer in this version.

I agree with you! The OG is my 2nd favourite Disney movie of all time, but even I can agree that the remake was absolutely amazing. Also, I have an idea that would be literally perfect. Wait for it....... HENRY CAVILL AS GASTON... "you're welcome"

great reaction, I can't blame you for not recognizing Ewan McGregor because I certainly didn't! This is one of my favorite Disney remakes, along with Mulan remake. but I loved your reaction, also love Evermore. Also the casting was the best I had seen back in 2017.
    Love your videos.

This live adaptation of Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites after The Jungle Book. I like the cast of this film, few that I was familiar of like Emma Watson, Ian McKellen, Ewan Mcgregor, and Josh Gad. The OG and new songs (especially the Evermore song) are great too, as well as Alan Menken’s score. 9/10 film imo.🙂

So yeah, I went to see this movie. Then I went to Disney World. And when I went to see the Beauty And the Beast stage show at Disney’s Hollywood studios, I thought they would upgrade the music from the 1991 instrumental versions to the 2017 instrumental music to match up with the remake. They didn’t do that.

I agreed with everything you said. The main issue was the creepy faces of the staff. I liked all The extra details too. The song for the beast is different then the original Broadway one, I like it better. The Broadway one is called “if I can’t love her.” This one is called “Evermore.” They may have changed some productions to add the new song.

    • @unsightedmelodies6801
      @unsightedmelodies6801 2 года назад +2

Actually some productions have both songs. "If I Can't Love Her" is the act one finale, so it doesn't need to be cut, but the reprise is cut and replaced with "Evermore". They work really well as solos in the same story, to the point that Menken and Rice tried to get the Broadway song in the film, but it slows the pacing too much without an intermission.

As far as Disney remakes go, this one is my favorite! The little changes in detail, plot, and character make it feel like another version of the story, rather than a worse copy of the animated version. I particularly loved the Gaston song, as it gave me the same vibes as when I saw the musical version of Beauty and the Beast. The choreography in that scene in particular was amazing and the movie version had the same energy!

I'm so glad that you reacted to this movie, Cody. The original is my favorite movie of all time, and even if the remake was terrible, I still would've loved it just because of how much I love the original. Luckily, the remake is phenomenal and the entire cast is perfect.

37:21 I know this is on the late side, but small correction: this is an original song composed for this movie. The Broadway one is called “If I Can’t Love Her” and it plays after he throws her out of the West Wing at the end of act one.
    Song still slaps regardless though

Honestly I think the only reason why I like this one better than the original is because I saw this before I even saw the original. It’s like the remake was a whole new movie to me because I didn’t see the original. But I absolutely love the beast in this one, especially the evermore song. Also the music was just amazing.

I went and saw this one in theaters with my grandma and I was so excited the night before that I couldn’t sleep.
I might be biased because I love Emma Watson’s performance as Hermione in the Harry Potters but I thought Emma Watson was a wonderful and BEAUTIFUL Belle. Fitting too since they were both bookworms.
A lot of people say they didn’t like this adaption but it was one of my favorite ones. I personally hated Jungle Book adaption for a few reasons
Balloo-they made him a con man…Balloo is a big lovable papa bear, not a con man!!!
The ending-Mowglii not going to the man village at the end just…destroyed the movie for me.

If you thought Luke Evans was good as Gaston, my dude, you need to watch Scrooge A Christmas Carole. Luke plays Scrooge and he is INCREDIBLE!!!! Mark it on your calendar for next Christmas season.
But I do like the remake. I like a lot of the remakes because I feel like I'm watching the story for the first time. We almost get a bit more about who the characters are.
There's a deleted line in the song Days in the Sun where the beast has a line. He's thinking about the day he lost his mother and sings how he feels lost without her.

I absolutely loved seeing your reaction to this, it more or less completely agreed with mine when I first saw it. I'm like no, no, no, you cannot remake this classic! And everyone was saying oh, Emma Watson can't sing, it's too long, blah blah blah. I watched it, I fell in love, Emma rocked it, Dan stephens made mincemeat out of the cartoon beast for my money! But the thing I liked most was when you said no put him back, put him back! I said exactly the same. If I'd fallen in love with the beast for who and what he was, I wouldn't have wanted some prince showing up. Ok, even if it was Dan Stephens for whom I have a definite soft spot! Thanks for a really great video, I enjoyed every second.

This Version of Beauty and the Beast went a bit more into hystorical acuracy with clothes and setting. That's why you see stuff like the villagers disagreeing wuth Bell teaching a girl how to read, or making inventions. In the time frame this film takes place girls where comonly thought by their mothers or other siblings, and the stuff they got tought was home economic stuff (cooking, tending to the smaler farm animals, washing clothes, that sort of stuff). Even if it would have been allowed (which only started around 1880), they would have been largly to bussy helping out at home with, for example, raising their siblings.

This one is one of the favorite remakes that may not be better than the original but it’s just as good I did love how not only did we get more depth with the characters but that we literally see what would happen if the curse had ran its course. There is a theory that because Belle and her father were from Paris originally that when they moved to the village the reason it is always the same as the day before is that the enchantress placed a time loop spell on the village that way they repeat the same day over and over. So it is possible that the village has been stuck in a time warp in the past whereas in the real world it’s been progressing. It could also explain why they find Belle’s love for books so appalling.
