The shadow of Clayton's hanging body was always there. some might have missed it since the focus of the camera is mostly on his machette and Tarzan. I had a friend who didn't noticed it either but later on saw it and was flabbergasted an image like this passed the censors.
yet again, we did see Tarzan's parent's corpses lying there as well, blood and all. Disney used to have balls I tell ye

Me too, as a kid all I remembered the scene from Carla finding the treehouse was the feathers floating on the ground, I only saw the blood and the parents’ bodies when I was older (like 10+ years I guess). And then years later I learned about Clayton’s scene from some movie trivia page. Guess I was not the brightest kid!

I saw it when the movie came out. My parents and younger siblings missed it then, thankfully.... But yeah. Years later, they were shocked to see what they had missed too. I have a theory... Most young kids may see the image and not know what it means and discount/forget it... There are ALOT of adult references in our childhood Fave movies...

When I saw it theatrically I totally missed the shadow and thought Clayton had simply fallen out of the tree to his death (which btw is what almost all the book adaptations claimed happened, just like most book adaptations of The Lion King claimed Scar died in the fall).

Tarzan actually has a special place in my heart, cause since I was three up until I was 14 I was part of a local dance studio in my hometown. We performed a gala at the local theatre every year, and one of the themes that we did the most was Disney ❤️❤️. What makes Tarzan special though is that it was actually the first time I ever performed a solo after I went up to the advanced level, and I played the part of Jane. I had the movie so I watched it for the first time in a while to see how to style myself, and ever since watching it has brought up that memory 😍❤️. I performed a routine to You’ll Be In My Heart and Strangers Like Me, and it ended up being one of the last times I ever performed as a full time member. That memory is super special to me, and recently my old instructor sent out a message to all older members available to RSVP for a special 20th anniversary performance ❤️❤️. So I’m gonna return there soon and hopefully see some of my older classmates. Thanks for bringing up such a special memory of my childhood Cody, and I’m exited for Beauty And The Beast cause it’s one of my favorites ❤️❤️

I am close to 40 now and this with Lion King belong so heavily in my childhood. Thank you Cody for reacting this! And can we all just appreciate the animation , the look in the eys and faces when Tarzan placed his hands against Jane? The scene is not emotional but also animation perfectness. About Jane's dress at the minute 20:20, the movie is set in the end of the XIX century, so it's actually something that women who did travel would wear (pants weren't yet approved for women in most countries at the time)

I still can’t believe Disney had the *BALLS* to show a baby gorilla getting killed, bloody paw prints on the treehouse floor, tarzans DEAD parents and the shadow of Clayton getting hanged. No wonder my mom didn’t let me watch this when I was little🥲🥲🥲

I always saw Clayton's shadow whenever I watch the movie. The first time I saw it, I was a bit mistaken thinking it wasn't the shadow but you actually saw Clayton's corpse dangeling in the background, though noticed on the DVD that wasn't the case.

In regards to your question about what we’re they doing out there in the beginning of the movie: in the book which Disney loosely adapted in the film and television show, Tarzan’s dad was being sent to Africa to make reports about how the military and the government were handling things in the area I think if I remember correctly he was a naval official? But yeah that’s why they were out there in the book at least 😂

My parents told me this was the first movie they took me to see in theaters. I was 3 years old in 1999 and they thought I was old enough for my first movie theater movie. They told me I was more interested in the movie theater we were in (we were in a movie dine in place) rather than the movie🤣
I didn't notice that Clayton scene until much later. I forget where I saw it online somewhere, but it showed a picture of the scene and I think it pointed at the silhouette. I grew up thinking they were just vines...they weren't just vines.

I’m 31 and one of my faults is that I don’t get emotional at things that are meant to be tear jerkers, but with that being said, I vividly remember sitting in the theater watching this movie and crying during that last Kerchak part!
Another scene that gets me every time is in “Inside Out” when Riley comes home to her parents and they’re all together…..when Riley starts crying, I do too! Ugh!
