  • In this video I install the Sprint Booster V3 in my base model 2.4L Saturn Sky.
    The Sprint Booster is a plug and play upgrade that increases throttle response to your Drive By Wire throttle body. But does it actually work? You'll find out by watching this video.
    To order your Sprint Booster, check out: amzn.to/38hQr7r

    I'll add a little bit to Mikes review here.
    First and formeost- If like Mike and I you were tired of the lazy throttle response on your sky (I've got the 2.0 turbo version) then this might just be the ticket for you. It started up in the race mode, level 5 and that feels great to me and I've left it at that without even trying any other setting. For me, it did exactly what I was looking for in perking up the lazy throttle.
    As far as the install...I took mikes suggestion and removed the seat. With all said and done it took about 1.5 hours with riding the install, removing the seat and reinstalling it. For those over the 50 crowd, be forewarned, nothing at this age seems that easy and this is one of those. You've got to gyrate into the car on your back so you can see the electrical connection up above the gas pedal. Then you're going to be going at the pink release kinda blind because you can't get your head or much else up in there. I got lucky with a sharp dowel hitting it and it dropping out. It then proceeds to hang in your way so you've got to tuck it up out of the way.
    Then you've got to push on the side release of the snap connection and pull at the same time with the same hand unless you're a midget cause you can't get both arms up there at the same time. Doable, but a pain.
    Getting the booster snap connection in isn't super hard, except again, you can't get both hands in at the same time nor even watch it. Again, it's a feel thing unless you can convince a small grandkid to slide up in there. Getting the pink lock back up in there is an adventure again because of the tight quarters. You're laying on your back with the floor mat clip poking you in the back while you're doing this, which keeps you from falling asleep I guess.
    So...for me it's absolutely worth it, but be prepared to expereince a little frustration as you're working in tight quarters, upside down and some by feel as you can't get yourself all in there, but it's doable and worth the chiropractor visit afterwards😉

      How is it now that you've had it for a while - do you still notice the difference or does your brain just re calibrate itself so everything feels the same? That's the criticism of the anti-booster crowd, however it doesn't ever seem like any of them have ever tried it out or used. I'd like to pick one of these up, but the install sounds a bit difficult for me (have a bad back) and $300 would be quite the waste if it does nothing. BUT, if it really does make the car more fun to drive, then it's well worth the time and effort. Thanks in advance for any thoughts you might have!

      ... Works on any throttle by wire application. It alters the throttle % voltage the ecu sees. Depending on the setting, the slope changes, but in a nutshell, instead of pushing the throttle to 75% to get 75% response, w/the SB, you would only need to push the throttle 30% to get a 75% response. Think of it as an (adjustable) electronic lightened flywheel.

    Awesome Video Mike. Great idea but I currently have bigger fish to fry. Currently have a issue with the coolant level sensor. I know it's full, I keep topping it off but the light still comes on so it's probably just a sensor in the tank. Even bigger problem is a P-0606 code that started out intermittent but is now on all the time. Accompanied a few times now with a "limp mode" condition that goes away with a shutdown and restart. This is all on a 07 Solstice BTW :)

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад

      The P-0606 code has something to do with the ECM (car's computer) possibly going bad. It's always doing a self diagnostic so when the code came up intermittently, it probably was checking itself and was fine, then error, then fine, then error...etc. But if it's on all the time now, it probably officially has a problem and needs to be changed. This may also be causing the coolant level issue as well. Have a good mechanic take a look at it before it causes more problems.

    I purchased one but I can't get the throttle sensor out. I can get the pink tab out but I can't get the actual cable out of the sensor. No matter how much force I give it. I also tried just pushing the pink tab with it on the sensor cable but no luck either. I did this to a Nissan 370z without too much issues but this one is surely special. Any advice? It is also in an awkward spot compared to the 370z. The plastic black tab that gets unlocked after pulling out safety pink part was jammed. All is well now.

    Hey Mike. Great video. Holy crap! Your garage looks like mine....two days after I clean it up! LOL! I'm in Canada so not sure how available this product is here. I'll research it. I wonder if it would be as effective on an automatic transmission? I get my Magana Flow exhaust installed next week.....might have been able to do it myself but chose not to. I did buy new GM dual exhaust valance and just put it in which is suppose to be genuine. I ,may remove it and try again though. I started on the right and moved along but by the end my tabs and plug hole barely lined up. Have a great day and keep them coming. Very informative and they really help Mike. Lance

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Lance. I know....my garage is a mess. Every time I work on a project, I leave my crap there because when I start another project, I'll probably be using the same stuff. Some day I'll get organized. What I really need is a nice big rolling toolbox. Maybe I'll start a Go Fund Me account....lol. As far as your question...I've had some people say that the booster isn't working as well as they'd like on their automatic transmission. But that was when they first installed it and I haven't heard anything since. So I'm wondering if the Sky/Solstice has one of those "learning" transmissions that bases the shift points on the person's driving habits. I'm hoping that it takes a bit of time for the tranny to figure out what's going on with the Booster installed, and then everything will be fine after that. You may want to contact the company and get their opinion.

    • @LanceIs55
      @LanceIs55 5 лет назад

      :) I'm sure I must have ADD because I'll be out in the garage and be working on something specific and see something that I haven't seen in awhile catches my eye and then jump over to it.....this goes on all day long and that's why my work bench and garage becomes a disaster area in no time, lol! Anyway, thanks again for your thoughts on the Booster. When I have my exhaust installed, I'll talk to my mechanic. He has a hot rod shop and should know something about it. Also, I took the new dual valance off last night and re-installed it, this time stating from the center and the plug holes lined up perfectly. Cheers, Lance

    Out of curiosity, have you done this with "Competition Mode" turned on? Might be fun! Ha. Also, what *specifically* does this thing do to the car? I'm asking because products like this often get made by aftermarket suppliers that take shortcuts or apply configurations that production engineers might frown on and for good reasons (i.e. - depending on what it does, it could result in harming your engine). Regardless, thanks for the video, Mike. Keep an eye on that thing!

    My solstice i can't figure what the hell is going on with it. It's 2.4L non turbo 5 speed under 100k miles. All 4 tires 29 psi, but as i accelerate it feels like the car is shifting left to right as i accelerate. Just imagine the rear being able to pivot front to back on each wheel. But there's no free play in the rear end. I can't force it to move when i have it lifted on jack stands. But each time i drive and do a hard acceleration it just feels like us porpoising left to right. Now cruise control on 65mph it goes down the road straight as an arrow. Higher speeds it feels like the car is going to literally shake itself apart. I'm talking anything higher then 72mph it just starts feeling all kind of dangerous. The car has never been in a wreck the tires are few thousand miles old kuhmo brand. I just don't understand what's going on with it. I've asked on some forums and other then tire pressure no one has a clue what could be going on. And i really hate the couple holders and window switches. I feel like i have to contort my arm into a t rex arm to grab my drink or put the window up or down. I love the looks of the car but just wish i could figure out the issues. And just keep dealing with the t Rex arms. Hopefully arthritis doesn't set in and make my arms stay like that forever. That would suck.

      Go to the Soly/Sky group on Facebook and repost your question there:
      facebook.com/groups/107999612683303
      (Pontiac Solstice/Saturn Sky/Opel GT/ Daewoo G2X owners)
      There, you'll get a lot of advice on how to track down the issue you describe.
      Also, keep in mind that your Solstice is a very typical GM car with typical GM parts... which means that any Chevy dealer or decent shop will be able to thoroughly check your suspension and drive-train (if you haven't modded the car). To me, it sounds like you sway bar links may be due for replacement.

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  5 лет назад +1

      What Michael Gerard said in his reply is good advice. If you're not already a member, join the various FB groups for the Solstice and Sky. Lot's of smart people over there. And yes, it may be the sway bar link or even one of the ball joints up front. I have a Kia Sorento that would drive fine when coasting or cruising along, but if you accelerated fast, it would want to throw you into a ditch. Turned out, it was a ball joint that was bad. Take it to either a dealer or a good mechanic that you know. You don't want to wait too long and make things worse....or make it dangerous to drive.

    • @Amorget

      You didn't mention what year you have and there were some suspension changes in the middle of the 07 model year that would change the troubleshooting here a little. Have you had the alignment checked?
      As far the t-rex arms... use your other arm, reaching across your body. It's an easy reach and works great for the windows. Middle cup holder is a little harder, but it works.

    • @Robotech04
      @Robotech04 5 лет назад +3

      When did you last have it aligned and did you get your rear castor checked when they did it? Either rear thrust angle or, the proper way, is with the GM castor tool. Any alignment shop that can do rear castor on a 2013+ Vette can do it on our car.
      And when they tell you that you don't have rear castor, tell them they are wrong and find a different shop.

    • @BuggysTowJam
      @BuggysTowJam 5 лет назад

      @@Amorget thanks guys for all the suggestions. I don't use Facebook. The car is a 2007. The alignment was done when the tires were purchased. I don't know what they did though as far as the rear alignment. I had just purchased the car and had new brakes new tires and alignment done all at the same shop. That was at 90k miles it now has 94k.

    This is really interesting. Reading the negative reviews people say that while right off the bat everything feels more responsive, in reality your brain quickly adjusts to the new peddle depth and the effect wares off. After having it for a while now what do you think? I'm really considering getting this as my '07 seems kinda sluggish, and this seems like it could be a nice upgrade to make it feel more sporty.

    • @MikesHouseOfMods
      @MikesHouseOfMods  4 года назад +2

      Hi Rod. I've had this installed for more than half a year now and I still love it. And I've heard people saying that the device changes the pedal depth (giving you 100% throttle at 70% pedal for instance), however, it does more than that. It actually speeds up the intake throttle body plate when hitting the pedal. For an exaggerated instance, let's say it normally takes 1 second for the plate to fully open when you floor the gas pedal. When you install the Sprint Booster, it will only take a quarter of a second to open fully. That's where the instant response is. It's in the speed of the throttle plate...not the percentage of pedal depth. Sometimes I actually turn it off if I'm just cruising around town and want a relaxing slower paced drive. But then I turn it back on when I'm in a fun spirited mood :)
