So us had the Saturn Sky, the UK had the vauxhall gt ( I’m not 100% sure) while the rest of Europe had the opel Gt
Best and worst thing GM ever created and killed. I always love the Sky. Amazing looks. Amazing potential. It would fly off the shelves today If it were reintroduced.
Pontiac solstice gxp is the better version of the sky imo. The sky is def better looking I won't lie but there's just something special about the pontiac version to me. Hardtop solstice is more rare than a ferrari f40. More sad about them killing pontiac. A modern g8 gxp would def be a hellcat killer, modern grand prix GTP would KILL the new performance models of camrys and accords, modern GTO would be like a more track focused camaro. I hate that they killed pontiac man. So tragic.
Truly tragic. If the kappa got a 2nd generation it would've been glorious. I keep wanting to buy a Sky Redline but something about the rarity of the '09 solstice hardtop keeps making wait for the perfect one to go up for sale. Such a beautiful piece of automotive history. I'd love to see a modern drivetrain in this package. It would be amazing.@@megamiteexplosion
Man, give this guy props for persistence and never giving up. I couldn’t believe how many times he had engines blow up on him. I would’ve thrown my hands up and gave up on cars completely lol. Really like how genuine and down to earth he is and the build is top notch and even more so when you know how much he went through with all the bad engine luck! Had to come back after the driving portion, holy hell that thing sounds so mean and amazing! The open top really makes the sound capture sound even more intense!
Not very surprising IMO. People have been swapping in LS motors since these were brand new. Oddly it's not that much lighter than the Vette the motors came from.
I've heard rumors that the engine mounts for a 2J literally bolt right up to the mount locations of the Sky/Solstice chassis Either some engineer was being real crafty or it's the best coincidence there ever has been
Opel should bring this car\chassis back. With the turbo 2.8 V6 from the Insignia OPC. Hats off to the guy for persevering to get everything working together. Great build.
Really like seeing somebody building this model up! Road and Track loved these things when they came out and Hot Rod magazine put a LS in one since the chassis is basically an 3/4 scale corvette.
juSTIn Turner right?! So I’m totally down for a jdm swap. Also it’s more in line with original hot rodding where guys just used what ever they could get their hands on to make a car faster and more badass. With a more global market open to us than in the 50’s and 60’s why not mix and match whatever works.
Opel speedster. In uk it is vauxhall vx220 which mcnamara had. Pontiac solstice was the same car In a pretty dress. And it is part developed with lotus which gives it great drivability.
Besides the FD Sky this is my other favorite Saturn Sky I've ever seen, also ya boi wearing the Freedom Factory hat, hopefully we see this thing rippin there sooner than later!!!!!
The Sky/Solstice always seemed underrated, coming out at an unfortunate time in GM's life. There was a local Sky with an LS swap and rear-mounted twin turbos, and someone autocrosses a stock one, but that's about it . The 2JZ swap seems like another great option, this is pretty cool. Making the connection that the AR5 bolts up to it with not too much fuss is nice.
They're crazy underrated. The Redline (or Solstice GXP) model with the 2.0LNF can be fairly easily tuned up to 400hp. Near 50/50 weight distribution, FR layout, just a touch over 3,000lbs (and you can drop under with a fiberglass or CF hood), adjustable camber/caster/toe on all four corners, dual scroll turbo, direct injection, and VVT, 18 tires standarad (only 8.5 wide though). Tuner kids discount them ("hurr durr it's a Saturn!") without actually understanding how good of a platform the Kappa is. Also, they were made with an LS V8 in mind, so swapping one in is dead easy.
@@TheM750 Yeah, the car got some pretty marginal reviews because it initially came out without the GXP/Redline option, and most of the reviews were with the standard model. Then they put in this turbo engine that GM offered dealer tune giving even more out of the box power without even voiding the warranty...2900 pounds and 290 hp with plenty of room for more.
The slightly more OG editing with Chappelle's show and TMYK are always appreciated. Give it that Hoonigan feel and flair from the way you guys shoot the vids to the editing. Love it.

My dads girlfriend had a redline turbo in red first year they came out long story short I was 16 she let me learn how to drive stick on the car! And I use to take chicks out all the time in that little roadster! She moved and had a good sound !
This swap makes so much sense, just swap the AR5 bellhousing for a JZ one, add the necessary bits and it just bolts on other than needing new motor mounts
Saturn. Best car company of its time! Ive owned 5 and my hole family owned them as well. Family time was 6 Saturn's parked in the driveway. Never had any major problems with any of them. Best part never rusted out living in Maine! Can't believe they were cut. Smdh

Especially when I see them with the unbadged billet grille. No Saturn logo looks waaay better in my opinion. Love the build!
I would have gone with 6 piston front calipers but, you said parts aren't plentiful for saturns so....4 pistons may be ALL there was. That said, the car probably doesn't weigh much and 4 pots are probably more than enough considering you went with Wilwood(they make nascar brakes).
While the 2JZ is a Japanese motor, After WW2 Toyota was given a GM Blue Flame I6 to use as a base design for there i6 Truck motors.. Which later turned into the G and then the J motors.. if you look at the GM Blue flame the mounts are the same, so it makes sense that anything RWD GM with an Inline motor, should fit the 2JZ with minimal modification.
