FIXING My $4,000 Saturn Sky REDLINE Codes P0010 And P0011

  • I bought an incredibly cheap 2007 Saturn Sky Redline convertible that's in unbelievably good condition. It's powered by the direct injected, turbocharged and variable valve timing LNF 2.0L Ecotec engine. The VVT isn't working on the 4 cylinder power plant thanks to a camshaft position actuator solenoid malfunction. After hooking the code reader up to the car I was seeing codes P0010 and P0011.
    P0010 - "A" Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit (Bank 1)
    P0011 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1)
Fixing the VVT solenoid is a simple and quick job you should have no problem doing at home. In my case I only needed the intake camshaft solenoid.
The only tools needed for the repair are a small screwdriver to release the tabs on the solenoid connectors and a 10MM socket with an extension.
    Parts:
    Intake Timing Solenoid: amzn.to/2U1nAxj
    Exhaust Timing Solenoid: amzn.to/2T5P7jY
    Buy Both and Save: amzn.to/2EpWYk3
    OBD2 Code Reader: amzn.to/2U0mK3O
    ------------------------------------------------------------
Here’s the gear and camera equipment I’m using!
    Helmet: amzn.to/2zaSAAm
    Gloves: amzn.to/2zbAIFH
    Camera: amzn.to/2hS3PKy
    Tripod: amzn.to/2hLX3Ta
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Common Questions:
What motorcycle do I ride? A few. Ducati 1198, Honda Fury, Honda Grom, Honda Ruckus
What do I do for a living? Make RUclips videos and work in enterprise data storage.
Can you wheelie? No, I suck.
Are you fast? Sort of. I suck mostly though.
inWhere can I keep up with you off the bike?

Facebook: WatchJRGo (or JRGo, FB hates my branding)
Do you go to school? College, for 2 classes.
Why do you ride so dangerously? What do mean? I was doing 25.
Do you go to the track? Of course, hopefully there will be videos in the future.
Do you play video games? No, but I might stream N64 Goldeneye at some point. Twitch: WatchJRGo
Are you afraid the police will watch your videos and arrest you? Something something evidence something something warrants and due process of law

I’ve been disappointed with the aftermarket in general, except for certain reputable third party suppliers. I found TRW brand VW Disc brake pads wear and perform better than VW OEM pads at a much lower price.

Pro-Tip: Never ever use Dorman parts if you love your car and/or don't want to do the same part replacement twice. The few bucks you save is an illusion. The AC Delco OEM parts at O"Reilly's only costs $7 more versus the Dorman.

I really appreciate you videos. You explain things quickly and straight to the point. This video was great except the camera was mostly focusing on you instead of your hands where you were removing and replacing the parts. Please keep that in mind for your next video. Keep up the excellent work.

Thanks for mentioning Shin-Etsu silicone grease. We’ve been dealing with a leak in a 40-year-old hardtop with frameless windows, and I’m going to treat the seals of my 2012 Mustang convertible (the “garage queen”). Plus, I think it might help fix a squeak coming from my elliptical.
I’m still bummed that I missed out on the deal you made on that Sky, especially since it was in my backyard (I’m in Rogers/Bentonville). But then again, I don’t have the amount of time you have to work on these rides and get them running properly...thanks again for the tip!

I have been lucky with my 2008 redline. Have not had anything go wrong. Just love it. The ride is real ruff. The Saturn dealer told me it was so you can take a curve at 60mph. Like I would try that. Just love the looks of it. It would help you if you had a camera person. Have a great time.

Just to remark to everyone who is admonishing aftermarket part suppliers / manufacturers like Dorman all I can say is it's a $4,000 used car that doesnt always need new old stock parts.
I dont recall if he get lifetime or limited lifetime warranty or nothing. It really doesnt matter. It ain't your money.
For myself I tend to stick with the AC Delco or Motorcraft level of replacement parts unless it's a GM/Ford only replacement part that I cant get. Also the car needs to be worth it for me to spend the $$ on it.
Beleive me those GM wheel hubs in the 2000s suck and still continue to go bad.

    • @WatchJRGo
      @WatchJRGo  5 лет назад +2

Exactly, I buy whatever is in stock preferably with the lifetime warranty. I'm gonna laugh when this solenoid lasts 50,000 miles 🍻(at least those wheel hubs are only $80-120, change enough of them)

That is a cool car, and not many of them were made. Only 35,000 were built before the end of Saturn, and of those, only 11,867 were built were Redlines. Of those built, less than half were manual so at best 5000 of those cars were built. It is actually a pretty rare car so in pristine condition is worth quite a bit more than $4000.
