Mine cost around $14000 in the market. It's 2009 with around 70000 millage on it, I bought it 5 years ago with 29000 mileage. I drive it only for pleasure by the beach. It's red color but not red line.
Purchased one new in 2009. Still have it. Watch the trunk lid, it can dent very easily if it’s closed at the wrong locations. Avoid pushing down on the “humps”, they’ll dent in no time. Close at the center of the trunk lid and with the palm of your hand. Good luck with the car. Still turns heads all the time.
To fix the pushed in cup holder on the passenger side center console you don't need to take the center console apart. You can just pop out the leather boot around the manual shifter & pull the cup holder out from there. This is how I fixed my Sky with the same issue.
Congrats on getting a redline, I just traded in my 2.4L baseline for a Ruby Red Redline Turbo with only 40k miles. Besides the shortcomings you mentioned and I agree with, what a real joy to drive, what a difference in the upgraded horsepower from 160 to 260. All smiles...
I bought a clean low miles 2008 Red line Turbo with the extra 290 hp and the whole car looks one of a kind. The engine is painted red, the brake caliper covers red and yellow, wheels chromed with red paint accented inside wheel. Chrome look accents that look like corvette side emblem . Makes new cars look dull because the chili pepper red paint is ultra shiny. This car never sees rain. I am asked all the time. What is it? It is a head turner . The sky is an awesome car and fast.
You have to use the opposite hand to do everything that you would do in a average car grab your soda out of the cup holder with your left hand move the windows up and down and door locks with your right hand after you own one it becomes second nature and it's actually very easy to navigate once you've owned it for a short time.... personally I love my Sky I have a base model that is custom turbocharged making almost 500 horsepower

Driving an Opel GT for 10 years now. Have done some mild remaping, has 320 hp and drives pretty well. Best thing I have done is stiffening the chassis and put in a bar between the rear axle. Now that thing runs the twisty swiss roads but is a bit snappy when the rear gets lose.
Just watched this, pretty cool that you found one of these to put on your channel. I had a friend with a Saturn Redline- it was his graduation present and I taught him to drive stick in it. It had a supercharger, not a turbo. The torque steer was out of hand, even with new tires. Cool car, though.
Head to zzp for performance parts. They are low cost high quality, and specialize in the lnf, lsj, 3800 parts. I have an lsj(earlier motor in the cobalt ss). You can get 300+ with intake/charge pipe and a tune.

I bought a 2007 Solstice GXP with a blown motor. Ordered a third generation ecotec 2 liter with turbo from ZZ performance. The new motor has 10 hp more stock than the original and has a better block, pistons and rods. The previous owner had just installed a Haan racing intercooler, intercooler pipes, and turbo blow off valve. He had also installed a stage 2 GM high performance chip and had the catalytic converter removed. The car also came with new struts, tires clutch and battery as well as a new carbon fiber luggage rack. I even got a brand new set of side windows. My girlfriend bought a 2008 Solstice GXP with 40k miles about 4 yrs ago.(from a dealer ,.. No where near the deal you got) The water pump went out the first day she got it. I put a $35 advance auto one on it and it's running great with 110k miles on it now. I raced a C6 corvette 0-80 with it and won by a foot or 2... It's stock and runs a boost of 18 psi. It's a fun car.
I still love my 2008 blue Sky Redline turbo. Had it out on I 75 today in FL and it still is a hoot to drive. Only 39,800 miles. Drove it from central FL to Cape Cod in 2015 filled with stuff. No problem at all.
Bought our 2008 Sky Redline with 66k on the clock for $3800 this week too. Had no communication from OBD port to ECM, along with no fuel level, and no crank. Junkyard ECM and a key relearn and it was good to go. Looking forward to your upgrades. K&N intake system on the way for ours since they broke the PCV nipple doing coils and plugs. Custom tuning coming soon too! Fun little cars.
The tune might be only activated if the cruise control button is on. If it’s a trifecta tune, they are configured to either that or the traction control button. This should be the button with the orange light in it on the steering wheel. Took me a month or two to figure mine out, until one day I pushed it and rocket mode engaged😉. @@HenryMulder53 The Opel Speedster is an entirely different car the only thing those two have in common is the styling. The Speedster is mid-engined and based on the platform of an Lotus Elise. The GT has a front-mid engine layout and is a badge engineered variant of the GM car shown in the video. Two entirely different things
@@robertschneider8808 I'm aware of that Robert. As far as I know the Opel GT, it was from the '70s and indeed front-mid engine. Also called the poor mans Corvette (C3) It was my dream car those days but way too expensive for me. Nowadays I fulfilled my dream and I own a '93 C4 Corvette.
I also like the Sky better than the Solstice. Check out SOLO for exhaust options. I used them for a G8/GT. I believe they started with a Solstice setup (SOLO / Solstice - something like that). Quality workmanship & great folks to deal with! Good luck
I had an '09 Solstice GXP that I loved but I couldn't keep it out of the shop, so get used to that check engine light! If you need to go on a long trip just pack directly into the trunk and behind the seats, forget about bags and you can carry enough for several days.
Do yourself a favor. Pull the valve cover and CHECK THE TIMING CHAIN! The GM eco tec series 2.0t, 2.2, and 2.4 love to break the longest, fixed timing guide. The chain then goes slack and eats up everything in the timing case. By the time it's making noise, it's usually too late. All the hardware in the timing case will need to be replaced. The job isn't hard or expensive. The only issue is that nobody sells all the replacement sprockets for the forced induction engines except the dealer.
They Sky always looked so much better than the Solstice. It was like they saw Sin City and said, "Electric razor? We can make the Solstice look like that!"
you should take the two blocks off the trunk lid that push the back of the top down in the trunk, they will cause you to get a tair in the top. They should have made them out of teflon to slide.
I have always been interested in those for a cheap roadster commuter car for the summer. You could always put an LS in there. Hope you keep it for a while.
I have a chance to buy 1 of these from a guy @ work... He has not given me a price yet... 2007 / White REDLINE . 140,000 miles. Thanks for the info, you helped me out....
I was in the right place and time. I just bought an 07 for 2k. 57k miles. It's got a few issues with the roof closing but other than that.. I can't wait to mod a few things
This is actually a 2008, redline turbos came out in 2008 despite the door sticker saying built in 2007. I have the same thing but red, got it new in 2008 and still running looking good!
When the Solstice came out, dealers here marked them up bad, added $25,000 to the window sticker written in in sharpie. I don't fit in them, but fit in the Fiero fine, which also has like 10X the trunk space.
Congrats on a very good deal. That gal must like you! I've owned my Sky (converted to an OpelGT) for two years and love it. Thanks for the tip on resetting the heater/air-conditioner. Yeah. You can purchase a 2018 convertible Camaro with the same engine for 35K. And basically you have the same car - something unique - for only 4K.
I worked at Saturn when the sky first came out. I remember they had a waiting list of people who wanted them. I only got to drive it in the service drive thru. I remember being able to let out the clutch without throttle because it was geared so low and was so light.
Kudos on this 👍 I've actually wanted one of these cars since GM first debuted the concept in 2005 😁 It's really hard to find one of these in my area that hasn't been ragged or has really high miles (or both)
@WatchJRGo You have some unneeded steps in putting the top down :-) . Hit the switch, flip the latch THEN get out of the car and do the rest. If you do the add-a-spring mod to the trunk you hit the button and the trunk will go up on it's own and you could throw the top down from the driver's seat :-) . If it has the dealer installed GMPP tune I think the MAP sensor would have a blue label on it. Would have to google to be sure. Oh, the arm cross over you do for the power windows is also helpful method for the center cup holder :-) Anyway came across your videos when you got the EXP (always wanted to get one of those and swap in a Vulcan 3.0L from a donor Tempo/Topaz) Now that you have the Sky, I subscribed and look fwd to what you do to it
Wait.....she wanted something larger and FASTER? Uh....oh well never mind. Dude unless this car has 200K+ miles on it, your stole it. I have an 07 Solstice GXP 20K miles, manual shift, LSD, DDMworks brace bundle and the magic "budget tune". I have less than $600 in performance upgrades and I can embarrass much more expensive cars especially in the tight twistiest roads. I dread the day if I ever have to sell it. Why didn't GM make cars like this earlier??? Perhaps Pontiac would still be in business. Anyone who finds a real low mileage GXP or Redline with manual shift, in good shape and an even halfway fair price should snag it. They are getting really hard to find as many are sitting in garages in hopes of becoming a collector car and I'd say the odds are pretty good they will be. Congrats on your sweet ride. BTW if you install the DDMworks brace bundle it is going to ride a little more aggressive(harder) but considering the improvements in an already good handling car it is worth it.
I bought the Solstice when it came out in 2006. Before they added turbo to these motors, with the bad differential, bad coil packs, and engine blew at 96k. Miss that car though.
Love the body on those Skys! Always wanted to drive one. If you want a less flashy but better ragtop with nearly identical equipment and more practicality, grab a 05-06 SAAB 9-3 2.0T Manual Convertible and flash stage 1 on it. Those were the best years for that 2.0T, or get an 08-09 Aero with the awesome 2.8T. SAAB verts are amazing cars with a lot for the going price. The 07+ year 2.0T's are good but you may have to deal with replacing the faulty intake valves supplied by GM during that era. 08+ body style is classier too. Yours being RWD is definitely more fun.
My dad has a 2007 Miata my son a 2017 Miata. In a straight line it’s not even close, or after 60. On the track though the Miatas are fast, the Redline turbo with the tune, pipes, cold air...make Alot of power running 335hp, 380 lbs of torque but on small tracks all the torque hitting so quick make it a chore, as the wheels break loose Alot. 99 percent of the time enjoy the Redline more, on a tight track the Miata is more predictable and easier to drive
I leased a Pontiac solstice when they came out. It was not turbo charged but it was the first time I had access to my own new car. I wanted a sky but there was red carpet lease I qualified for from Pontiac & not Saturn. But pretty much same car different badges. Also I got an automatic but while it was fun and looked nice it was very slow.
I still cant believe you was so close to my house. I would have loved if you had the time to do a meet and greet. I would have been the first one their. To me the car seems a lot like the Fiero in size and drive ability. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me. the only difference is the motor placement.
Engine light on? I got same issue and it was just a small issue that happens when you move from a cold state to a warm state or humid state. It costed me around $60 bucks to fix it. And no more engine light on 😊
Roadster for the summer! It looks great, congrats! AdamLZ just turboed his mom’s Solstice which I think is the same platform. Edit: just got to the point in the video where you said it’s a shared platform with that Solstice.
If it is making 18psi then it is most likely gm stage 1 which is new map sensors and a ecu flash that turns the boost up. Its lower than that factory like 15 psi I think. Can't remember exactly as my cobalt came with gm stage 1 when I bought it. Had zzp tune and turned up the boost to 22psi and it screamed. Btw with just the gm stage 1 kit it should already make 290hp with a tune.

Good luck
Does it really count as "cheapest" if you know the person? I bought the cheapest Corvette in the world from my friend for $20 when he blew the engine.
They had it listed on FB before I jumped in, I thought it would've already been gone! 🍻
@@WatchJRGo bullshit
I had an '09 Solstice GXP that I loved but I couldn't keep it out of the shop, so get used to that check engine light! If you need to go on a long trip just pack directly into the trunk and behind the seats, forget about bags and you can carry enough for several days.
Nice score. You have quite a cool fleet going on
Trifecta performance is the way to go imo, email tune really wakes it up.. boost to 21 psi.. throttle response amazing
1:11 What kind of Jeep did she get that is faster than the Redline?
Probably a Trackhawk.
Well any of them since they are automatics!
@@hansbrix2495 if you can't outrun a Jeep in a manual redline you're just a shitty driver.
They Sky always looked so much better than the Solstice. It was like they saw Sin City and said, "Electric razor? We can make the Solstice look like that!"
I want to get one so bad, such a fun, cheap, little car that people tend to forget about
you should take the two blocks off the trunk lid that push the back of the top down in the trunk, they will cause you to get a tair in the top. They should have made them out of teflon to slide.
We don't have them here. Looks like a fun affordable performance car. Well done!
I have always been interested in those for a cheap roadster commuter car for the summer. You could always put an LS in there. Hope you keep it for a while.
Very nice Video ... Enjoyed the detailed description and specs for the car... Thank you.
I have a chance to buy 1 of these from a guy @ work... He has not given me a price yet... 2007 / White REDLINE . 140,000 miles. Thanks for the info, you helped me out....
Sweet car makes me miss my MR2. Tried that restaurant Local Lime in Rogers. It was really good.
I was in the right place and time. I just bought an 07 for 2k. 57k miles. It's got a few issues with the roof closing but other than that.. I can't wait to mod a few things
Thank you. I had no clue, this little car, was that quick.
I would love one of them redlines, the only negative for me is convertible. Love my cobalt, and I am sure id like that sky as well.
This is actually a 2008, redline turbos came out in 2008 despite the door sticker saying built in 2007. I have the same thing but red, got it new in 2008 and still running looking good!
Nice. The top operation is definitely a flashback to my Buick Reatta Conv, not much else similar though
When the Solstice came out, dealers here marked them up bad, added $25,000 to the window sticker written in in sharpie. I don't fit in them, but fit in the Fiero fine, which also has like 10X the trunk space.
Most skys sell for around 10k
Congrats on a very good deal. That gal must like you! I've owned my Sky (converted to an OpelGT) for two years and love it. Thanks for the tip on resetting the heater/air-conditioner. Yeah. You can purchase a 2018 convertible Camaro with the same engine for 35K. And basically you have the same car - something unique - for only 4K.
I worked at Saturn when the sky first came out. I remember they had a waiting list of people who wanted them. I only got to drive it in the service drive thru. I remember being able to let out the clutch without throttle because it was geared so low and was so light.
They didn't put a stick in the red line?????????
Kudos on this 👍 I've actually wanted one of these cars since GM first debuted the concept in 2005 😁 It's really hard to find one of these in my area that hasn't been ragged or has really high miles (or both)
Very cool. Those cars are tons of fun!
Oh, the arm cross over you do for the power windows is also helpful method for the center cup holder :-)
Anyway came across your videos when you got the EXP (always wanted to get one of those and swap in a Vulcan 3.0L from a donor Tempo/Topaz) Now that you have the Sky, I subscribed and look fwd to what you do to it
So please ask Tyler if you can do this drag race his cars (including the Phantom ) and then your car's that would be the best car youtuber collab ever
Mine made 310/329 with trifecta tune catless Down pipe and intake
Will pull Bus Lengths on the Camaro for about $500
Nice video and great buy! But you know 4k was the friend hookup price..
Best part about the SAAB: One button automatic top with no leaks, still, on my 05.
You should race Hoovie in his Miata.
It's true that in 2007 the Sky MotorTrend compared to the Sky to the Miata. But the cars are not at all similar. The sky is way heavier and bigger.
Aftermarket turbo upgrade.... best bang for the buck
I love these. I think the obvious easy answer here is LS swap but it will be interesting to see what you can do with the ECOTech
That 06 Yellow mustang though ❤️
I leased a Pontiac solstice when they came out. It was not turbo charged but it was the first time I had access to my own new car. I wanted a sky but there was red carpet lease I qualified for from Pontiac & not Saturn. But pretty much same car different badges. Also I got an automatic but while it was fun and looked nice it was very slow.
Amberghini looks soooo excited
I still cant believe you was so close to my house. I would have loved if you had the time to do a meet and greet. I would have been the first one their. To me the car seems a lot like the Fiero in size and drive ability. I could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me. the only difference is the motor placement.
Lol... I don’t know why we measure in CDs? That’s my favorite line !!😂
I almost bought new but they didn't have any on the lot and couldn't wait for delivery or buying a car I haven't test ride . I regret not buying one .
Well, she didn't look too happy at 8:53, "Christ, he bought another fucking car!".
Didn't know that about the top and trunk. A real disadvantage compared to a Miata. A great find and great buy though. An excellent engine!
Drove the sky when working for cadillac, Saturn, hummer those are good little cars.
It was interesting to learn that the climate controls are the same at the Hummer 🍻
Good luck with that check engine light. I have a Solstice. Fun car to drive. :)
I love it! I always wanted one of these, I sat in one at an auto show once and I was too big for it sadly.
Do not push the trunk down from either of the bolsters. you WILL dent them. it was an issue with both the Solstice and the Sky
Good job youtube recommending this after watching the turbo kit install, 2 years later
I'm 6ft3, so I'd have to get 2 of them... One for each foot... Looks crazy fun though
Oh man! That’s a beautiful ride!
Very good deal you did.
I’m looking for a deal like you made hehehe
I had about 21 pounds of boost on my HHR SS. Do the CRC intake cleaning makes a big difference. Mine made 300WHP 315 TQ with just a dyno tune.
I test drove a 2008 Saturn Sky redline at a dealer. Holy hell those things are fast.
Love it, thinking of getting that for my next fun car
Just bought a rally yellow cobalt ss turbo sedan last week. Wish i could say it was the cheapest.....
Ohhhh, the turbo SS. That car is a beast! Crazy how much faster they are than the supercharged Cobalt. 💪
@@WatchJRGo should make a fun daily. Going to get some vids posted up soon.
