2007 Solstice GXP had Direct fuel injection, independent suspension, limited slip differential, traction control, ABS, air cooled front brakes, dual exhaust. Also, at 260 HP in a 2.0 liter engine it had the highest horsepower ratio of any American car in history. Pretty cool.

Crazy thing is you can still get a nice condition Solstice GXP with relatively low mileage for cheaper than a ragged out Honda s2000. I like the s2k but GXP has more power, more performance, etc for cheaper. I know which one I’d rather have.

Just got a clean title, no accident Sky Red Line with only 40,000 miles for $8500. These things are monsters, they’re essentially two seater rwd Cobalt SS turbos. They have a decent aftermarket and can make 300 hp with just a tune.

I bought my NA Solstice in 2019 and I am very happy with my choice. Having owned two Fiat X1/9 roadsters previously, I am used to not having kick-ass power. Instead, I enjoy driving twisty two-lane country roads with the top down and the NA versions of these cars are very satisfying. I prefer the smooth look of the Pontiac, but everyone chooses for themselves. Now its true that the turbo versions of these cars had more of the options as standard, but this car was definitely a-la-carte. Features that were standard on other cars were options on these in order to keep the price at $20K in 2006. The turbo versions were not offered in 2006. My car has almost EVERY option that was offered, so its price came in at $28K! I hear a lot of comments in reviews that these were "parts-bin" cars, like that was a negative thing. I look at it differently. I am happy about that because many parts ARE available because of this. I have no problem buying many parts because they were found on other cars. However, you will have problems finding parts like body panels and such because they were unique to this car. The NA version of these cars are the easiest (cheapest) way to get to enjoy sporty open top motoring. They are best as a second car only because of their limited cargo capacity, but you could definitely do it if you must.

It doesn't matter... The Honda is on the other end of the spectrum in quality, performance and reliability from these lowly GM cars! You've got to be hard up, or only into looks, to want one of these lower quality GM cars vs. the S2000 it any Miata!

    • @yamahaSHO

@@KOrnhOliO1 - I have both. They are both pretty fun cars and I won't argue with the quality differences. The S2000 is far better built. My S2000 is far from being original at this point, so it does everything better, even power.

Loved the video. I have a 2008 Redline. with about 53,000 miles that I bought last summer for $15,000 with 48,000 on it then. I couldn't find a low miles 5 speed garage kept Redline near me. I found one online about 450 miles from me at a car lot in San Antonio, Tx. The dealer assured me it was worth the flight, so I did. It was as promised so after the test drive I put the top up and spent all day at 80mph+ 130 once in 108deg. heat with no issues. I drove it hard because if it had any issues I wanted them to show themselves. I love this car. So-far I've put in a new head unit for navigation and hands-free phone ability, and a DDM short throw shift kit. RPM stage 3 = turbo upgrade, bigger intercooler, charge pipes, cold air intake for sound purposes only, a larger diameter catted exhaust downpipe, and the included remote tune are coming at tax return time. Most people are seeing around 315whp with that setup. I can hardly wait to get all that done. 😁

4500 and 4200... they're not that rare. There are somewhere in teh ballpark of 60,000 solstices, and 40,000 sky's Certainly not common, but your numbers are wildly rarer than the cars really are. I know you're referring to the 2007 turbo models, but there are much more of those too from other years. There are 1266 coupes all from pontiac and all from 2009. These are very fun cars, I highly enjoy mine. Wranglers were sold without AC until very recently btw ;). You could also get roll up windows on a base solstice! :D. The red stitch on the GXP is quite rare.
The Diff is a Cadillac diff, the transmission is from GMC canyons and Hummers. The rear reflectors are from a GMC ... envoy? I think?
The S2000 is admittedly the best roadster of the era, but the solstice looks better in my opinion :D
    Good video overall!

The Saturn looks so much nicer than the Pontiac. You mentioned a windscreen on the boxer. You can get a windscreen for the Sky and I would think the Solstice. I installed a ton when I was a line tech at Saturn. Saturn was a political casualty. 16 buyers lined up to purchase Saturn. Zero for Pontiac, 1 for Hummer, 1 for Saab. Roger Penski won the bid for Saturn. He was working with Nissan to bring the Sentra up to the safety standard of Saturn. It would have come with the 2.4L Ecotec Motor. At the same time President Obama's Car Zar wanted to buy Saturn and turn it into a full EV car company. On the day of closing Nissan pulled out of the deal and also happened to come to an agreement of using an ONstar type of tech. Penski would have had to start paying big fines for being above the standard EPA. He asked for six months to secure another compact car. They said no. He asked for 3 months. again no. So he did not sign. The plan became that the car zar would buy Saturn a year later but he was found to be dirty just like Nissan was found dirty in pulling out and receiving OnStar tech.
Saturn was actually known for being "A different kind of car and a different kind of car company". This was true until Oldsmobile was dropped and Saturn was moved into that GM cookie cutter spot. The main goal of Saturn was to exceed the customers expectations. The engineers actually listened to the tech's who had to work on them. The "S" car (SL, SL1, SL2, sedans SW1, SW2 Station Wagons and SC1, SC2 Sports Coupe) the 1 models had a single cam 1.9L inline 4 cylinder, 14" wheels, and dark textured bumpers. The 2 Models had Twin Cam 1.9L inline 4 Cylinder and upgraded interior as well as bigger 15" wheels and painted bumpers. The SC2 had popup lights from 1991 (The cars first year) to 1996. 95 SC2 was my favorite. My wife bought a brand new SC2 in 1995 right before we got married. When she got her 2001 Yellow coupe a made it a beast. At 200k miles I swaped out the auto transmission for a five speed manual. I rebuilt the engine the Tom Brandileer way using pistons from a 1999 twin cam and head from a 1991 along with other secrets. If you know you know. It ended up with 300HP from 124 stock HP. I sold it when my son started to drive. It's still going. It's a track car now and doing great. Very underrated cars. They were Honda Civic killers in the street racing wars and nobody expected it. The early Saturns were great to work on. They made sense. They were great cars as well. We still have one Saturn in our fleet. 2001 SC2 3dr coupe special edition yellow. It has just over 300k miles. It still has the original clutch! That is with my wife, son, daughter, and nephew all learning how to drive manual on that car. It still has the original Timing chain. The deepest I have been into the engine has been the Cam Cover gasket and intake manifold gasket. My daughter is now the driver of Tweety. It was my wife's but she now has a 2018 yellow Jeep Renegade-BigBird. She loves yellow vehicles. The car and our daughter are both 2001 models (23 this year). Our daughter started in a rear facing infant seat in the back and is now in the drivers seat. The car has a body kit and and some bolt on performance mods. Still looks great and runs great. Saturn was a great car and company. It's a shame politics got in the way!

The bad news, the Sky is a collector car now, and may parts are unavailable, such as the headlights, tail lights, clutch flywheel (and the list goes on). A fun collectors car, but not a practical car for every day driving, very expensive to maintain. Those front side panels crack and break, and are no longer made. Heck, you can't even buy shocks for it (you are stuck with expensive aftermarket racing coilovers). Having said that.... fun fun fun...and a look like no other in town.

I feel your pain haha. Anything body related is unobtainium. I had a nice chunk missing out of my taillight and the only way I could find a replacement was from pulling it off of another Solstice that was in a front-end wreck.

I'd take the Sky over the Solstice- easy choice.

Saturn sky never made a coupe! G.M. made just over 1,200 2009 coupe's all Pontiacs. GM built 12, 2010 Pontiac coupes.
It's said all 12 were sold through a auction.
There was recently a rare 2010 blue 1 of 1 Pontiac solstice coupe with 8 miles that has come available, appraisal on this car is $150,000.

13:00 He says while driving on a straight and flat road. Sports cars belong in the mountains... I could drive it no handed on flat ground with straight roads.

I am not sure if you have ever been to Dallas, but “flat and straight” describes 99% of roads around us.

Oh get lost with the Porsche crap. For the money, my 2007 GXP RPM Motorsports tuned Solstice is right there with your Porsche, especially given that I have 320 HP. Bye bye Porsche. We want to hear about these 2 cars which quite frankly still hold up in 2024, are great looking, great handling and the fun factor is unbeatable. Solstice=beauty. Porsche = UGLY

You lost me 75 seconds in, with the redundant repetitive "how many of these were built?"
