Actually, Gabi was one of the three I watched... I saw you mentioned you'll be doing something with her in the future! Her opinion aligns with yours and she also purchased hers. I wonder if Dyson does any real world review BEFORE releasing a $500 product. I will say as a 67 year old, I can see where a more advanced age (wealthy) 😅woman would find it helpful...
I have coarse, wavy hair. I bought the Airstrait and I found it to be a fantastic tool for working with my hair. I'm not a professional stylist, so I don't have the skill set or desire to spend a long time on creating a professional looking blowout. I also don't want to damage my hair with excessive heat from flat irons. This product bypasses all that. I love it.
Do you not feel that the hair is getting way too hot? I've used it a few times now and it does a decent job at getting my hair straight, but my hair is scorching to the touch. It has to be causing damage.
@stephanieinjuly I haven't had that happen. I use it at 285 degrees. I just move it down the hair shaft slowly but not hold it in one place. I found the Dyson website demo to be helpful.
Thank you for your comment. I hate this type of review were the model or person have a beautiful hair that can be air dry and look good. It doesn’t make any difference for them. I want to know if make a difference for us. The ones that have coarse hair.
Best purchase I’ve ever made!!! Yes hands down….and no is not for everyone, I know. Reason for me is: I had a stroke that left my right side with hardly any strength or movement and can only use my left arm….I can’t work handling a brush and blow dryer at the same time. So, this is perfect for me. ❤Dyson
Great! I have just purchased one because I have some disabilities and it was too much to dry my hair then straighten it, I would be exhausted. My husband saw it advertised and said it maybe beneficial for me. The price is high and I’m hoping it works.😊
@@hailey.hamilton it is heavy! My husband purchased it for me as I’m disabled and have problems with my arms. He thought it would be an all in one instead of me having to dry my hair then straighten it. It is good but like I say it’s very heavy and to take numerous breaks, it does give your hair a lovely shine though.🤍
My husband purchased a Dyson blowdryer for me last Christmas-after I had a fit about the cost, and told him I was definitely returning it, I decided to at least try it, what the heck. IT IS AMAZING, best my thinner, dry hair has looked in years. It doesn’t make your hair dry and frizzy like regular blowdryers can-my husband is AWESOME for surprising me with such a nice present-AND I TELL HIM OFTEN 😊❤
Over the years did you find any damage its had made to your hair as some comments said it damaged hair i just bought it and make sure it will be ok in the long run thanks
@@trustawan7215 absolutely no damage. As a matter of fact, I feel it has improved my hair a lot! It doesn’t get that frizzy burnt look like you get from a regular hot blow dryer. I am very impressed with mine and will always use one instead of a regular dryer. I am sold on this !
It's amazing for my wavy hair that gets super frizzy in any humidity. Day 1 it's very straight - day 2,3,4 (that's as far as I've gone) it never got frizzy but definitely had more volume to it. Dry shampoo on day 3 helped. For me it's about getting it done with the least amount of work on hot days. Winter I prefer the blowout brush but when it's humid outside I want the job done quickly and efficiently. Never bought a dyson hair product before but this was worth it for me.
Yes Lisa, the best part to also keep in mind is the Dyson technology in keeping your hair healthy & not burning it in the long run with the use of all the added products combined. I have the Dyson airwrap. I'm still freaking out over what I paid but let's just say I will not be hitting a Salon anytime soon! I did the math & with the savings of a blowout in a year, my Dyson will have paid for itself. 🙂
I have fine natural grey/white hair and this tool works beautifully for me, giving the results of a flat iron without the risk of yellowing heat damage.
My curly coarse hair has been worn natural while wishing for sleeky straight hair for YEARS! I've had the same flat iron, round brush and ionic hairdryer for about 10 years but detest wrangling said tools for an hour or more to get semi-sleek results. The dyson airstrait is a total game changer for my locks. After 2-3 passes, my hair has remained strait (haha straight) for 3 days with a bit more volume each morning. Translate my hair to pillow conversion something alike a sunbeam mixer with egg whites! The kicker is NO HIGH HEAT damage to my bleached, colored, frizzless mane!! Thank you Dyson for my long locks!
I purchased after my hairdresser used his on my curly hair. I have a hard time getting my hair straight by regular blow dryer. I wind up using flat iron. I find that the Dyson Airstraight works well for me. I'm amazed that after 2-3 passes my super curls are straight. I won't wear my hair straight all the time but for the times i do, this product works well for me. The first time my hairdresser done this on my hair i was able to get up and comb or brush my hair. No touch up required. Very excited to own and use the Airstraight.
It can feel exhausting. And I can't blow dry and flat iron in 8 minutes. My guess is that she just "goes over big sections of hair with her flat iron, anyway. When I flat iron, it's smaller sections, less heat, and ONE pass. I cannot achieve that in 8.5 minutes. No way.
One thing that no one has mentioned, and is the main reason I would like to purchase this, is for travelling. I love my air wrap, but it’s so much to pack, and a hair dryer and flat iron also takes up too much room. This seems like a game changer for travel
Be careful about using it in other countries though. Firstly I don't think the warranty would cover you if it blew up abroad. Secondly I read on the Dyson community board that a lady living in Turkey bought one in the USA and it wouldn't work in Turkey. On that basis I won't be taking my UK bought one on any holidays abroad and that was pretty well why I bought it.
I have used the Dyson Airwrap for 2 years and NO SPLIT ENDS!! It is amazing and doesn’t get hot enough to damage hair but hot enough to style well. If the Airstraight is anything like the Airwrap, it’s worth every penny!
A few of my long-haired clients bought an air wrap after I used it on them, and they walk around looking amazing all the time. My best advertising! For them, the airwrap was worth it. I think for gals that always want a straighter look, the air straight could be a great investment. The other upside is they only have to pack ONE tool for traveling, too. I use the blowdry attachment on my air wrap and the paddle brush and the brush accessories to achieve a pretty smooth and straight look, too. I think it's better than using a flat iron on your hair every day, for sure.
After listening/reading others reviews, I do think it is more beneficial to those who don’t already have straight or almost straight hair. Your sons girlfriend looks to have hair that is easy to blow dry and straighten out fairly quickly, but for those with more texture to their hair, it’s a much more lengthy process with a blow dryer and straightener. But most reviews I’ve seen by people with more texture, they find their hair is dry and straight in 20-30 min instead of the typically 40-50 by rough drying and then flat ironing. I think that’s the key with it but I do appreciate the honest review!
I questioned if I wanted it after seeing your video and firstly decided not to buy it, then changed my mind and I love it. Couldn’t be happier with it.
I have naturally wavy, fine, lightened hair. I purchased this in hopes of getting a smooth hairstyle without using a flat iron which I really don't like and they are really damaging with regular use. My first thought was how easy the airstrait was to use and it was lightweight. I absolutely love the results. I have used it on wet hair and, after getting caught in the rain and my hair got all frizzy, I used the dry hair setting and was really impressed. Yes, the price is insane, but I don't have any need to get blowouts ($40-60 each). I just let my hair dry naturally to about 75% and then go in with the wet hair setting and it works really well. I have had so many compliments on my hair when I use it. I have only had it for about 2 weeks so I will need to see if it actually is less damaging than using a flat iron but I have high hopes.
Thank you for your thoughts on the airstrait. I too have fine wavy hair and straighten my hair daily, which is really bad for it, but if I don't I'd end up going to work looking like I didn't comb my hair. lol Your review pushed me toward trying the airstrait out, despite the high cost of it.
I bought it. I get it tomorrow. I just want it to keep my hair from as much heat damage as possible. I wear my hair up a lot so if it helps with smoothing the frizz and hair damage I think I’ll be thrilled. It is a lot of money though.
I have this tool and I mainly bought it because I do like trying dyson hair tools when they come out. I will say that it performs better than I thought. I have the air styler and I still cannot figure out how to use that properly. I also have the flat iron which I prefer titanium plate or steam flat irons better. There is no bend in your hair when using this. But the finish is fuller And less frizzy especially when you use a cool pass. It didn't save much time but my hair didn't have the dry crunchy feel. And my ends were pretty straight without any extra effort such as chasing it with a comb. I have very curly hair when it's wet so this worked well in my opinion. And the price... I don't go to hair salons anymore because I can't find A stylist that will give me better results than I get at home so I dont spend hundreds of dollars in the salon.
Do you have the first version of the air wrap or the one with the changeable directions on the wands? It took me a while to figure out how dry I needed to get it, before really trying to wrap for curling. The newer wands are so much nicer. For me, I use the brush attachment to get a little volume at the root and get it 90% dry at the root, then leave the mids and ends damp, but not WET. Then, I air wrap, and it gives me gorgeous, bouncy, long-lasting curls. Also, I shoot each curl with a cool blast and don't touch them while I do my makeup. I really let the hair cool all the way down,. A lot of people touch their hair too soon to manipulate the style. try that, and see if it helps. Another thing, they show in their videos, wrapping the long hair closer to the ends, and then to the root. I start closer to the root, and let the ends wrap up last. that helped my finished looks a lot too. Just practice with it. There's a learning curve, for sure.
I’m waiting for mine to come in the mail. I have thick course unruly wavy hair and I have a LOT of it. I always always always blow dry my hair as much as I can and it get the dreaded triangle head of frizz. Afterwards I always go in with a straightener afterwards to straighten it/flatten it. Not that I want to but it’s a necessity because the dryer doesn’t do enough. This tool got be extremely excited because it’s what I’ve been looking for all my life. A blow dryer in the form of a straightener and that straightens it from wet! I believe It’s going to save me so much time and damage. Only time will tell! Once I get in and start using it I’ll advise!
I bet if you used a heat protectant like Trilliant by Sebastion, before use, it would be even better. You have to shake it up each time you spray it, but it is my fave product to use for straight looks. It seems to protect and defy frizz. You might want to think about maybe getting a Lasio Keratin treatment if your budget allows. I thought they were a gimmick until I did the One Day formula on my hair, and it took out 90% of my curt and 100% of my frizz. They have a 60% percent curl and 100% frizz formula too. It made styling my hair so much faster and easier, and really helped in the humidity.
I am interested in this due to the claim of using less heat and it being better for your hair health. I would have loved for you to give your opinion on that.
I have their hair dryer and I NEVER thought I'd spend $400 for a hair dryer. It's worth EVERY.RED.CENT. My hair has never looked better, dries fast, is looking less dried out and healthier by the week and I would never want to be without it again. I use that "C" shaped attachment to create straight looks so not sure I'd need the airstrait but it's intriguing. I actually may get the airwrap because I'd like to be able to curl my hair as I dry. The Shark version of the airwrap is a bit cheaper, so I might try that. Thanks for the awesome review!
You’re so welcome! I actually haven’t tried the Shark yet but I’m excited too! I literally have the box sitting on my counter waiting to be used so I can review it (also not sponsored, I bought it with my own money). I think it looks SUPER interesting!
Thanks for taking the time to share this, Justin! I’ve had my Dyson hairdryer for a good four years now, and it’s the most reliable tool I have with my Kent round brush to help me blow dry my hair! I get the length and the gentle curl at the end, which is what I really want. Your video also taught me that the Air Strait isn’t worth getting, not for my intended result.
What a great review Justin! I really enjoyed getting your perspective on it. It is a unique tool but I don't like how it gives absolutely zero volume and I agree that the results aren't SUPER different then the results of a blowdryer + straightener. I can't help but want to keep it though...maybe because I am a hot tool addict! SEND HELP!
LOL! I hear ya! I want to love it, even though I have no personal use for it. Mainly because I LOVE their design language. Their tools look good and are just, I guess, cool. BUT, $500 later, for a paper weight just can't get me there with this one. I DO love a lot of their other products though.
@@justinhickox Could you please analyze the comparison of damages to the hair between the 2 because that would be the only reason I would want to buy anything for that price. I'm looking for a tool that will make my hair look nice without damaging it much. Does anything like that exist on earth 😂? Your comment would be appreciated
Bought mine about 3 months ago. My hair has never looked so bad. It’s damaged my hair and broken it off in places I’ve never had breakage before. Much more damage than my parlux dryer/t3 airebrush duo and steampod straighteners. Extremely disappointing
I just got mine. I dry with my hair dryer then use the boost mode on dry hair, just amazing, my hair turns into pure silk. Zero frizz. Does get pretty hot on your hair, protection is nec imo.
Love your reviews of products. Honest and with knowledge and experience behind it. Thank you for saving us lots of money on products that don't offer more
I have a Dyson Air straight and wavy natural hair which gets frizzy in humidity. I prefer 285 degrees on my hair over the 400 my flat iron gets to smooth my hair. With Dyson on day 1 my hair is straight. After day 1, I get nice coils that are not a frizzy mess. Dyson for the win on my type of hair. This is just my experience. Everyone has different hair and budget.
I was so happy to see you review this. I really value your opinion. I also had already seen Gabi’s review. If I had $700 (Canadian) to burn I might go for this as I have straight hair, and can’t get it as straight & smooth as I like with hairdryer & round brush. Yet also can never be bothered to use a straightening iron after! So for someone like me this would likely be a great solution. But alas, I do not have $700 to burn!!! 😂
I’m not into that super straight look on myself, I’m more of a big hair kinda gal but I’m excited to see this and hear your thoughts! Love your videos!
I like how you broke this down at the end based on preferences. I have thick hair that sometimes gets frizzy. I wash my hair, use moroccan oil. In warm months I let it air dry to about 80% then rough dry with my Dyson dryer (which I LOVE; it was worth the splurge). I then use the big hot air brush to dry in sections. Problem is, it gets soooooo hot, and the cool setting is too cool. So my main concern is heat damage from the hot air brush or the GHD flatiron I sometimes use and that is the only reason I would purchase this.
I have purchased AND RETURNED every Dyson hair tool they have made prior to this one, very doubtful I’d drop $500 for this one, but extremely thorough review, thanks Justin!
I love their hairdryer and flat iron but I don't know if this would be the tool I'd buy either. Their products look great and are built very well though.
It doesn't have the same painful learning curve as the airwrap. It's easy enough to get it to do what it's meant to do the first time. I don't know how it gets the roots so smooth considering how far away from the roots that you clamp it but it does.
@@NatashaEstrada That was my question. if the roots aren't dry, forget it, How does it dry the roots? That's just crazy to me. I will have to see it for myself. My black clients that love a sleek, Meghan Markle blowout, will APPRECIATE not having a second step/tool to use if it dries and straightens up close to the root. WOOHOO!. I gotta drop the cash for this. I must! No Starbucks for me for a few months. LOL.
Don't worry. Dyson MUST know that there are a LOT of people who are not buying either because they can't afford it, or because they cannot bring themselves to spend that much money on a hair tool. Pretty sure it would be in their interest to drop the price. If they don't its a huge loss for them@@lovemeyouall
I have damaged hair and i would like to invest in a hair tool that might help me straighten my hair without keratin or hair protein that made my hair lot more thinner . Do you think its worth it !?
I don’t straighten my hair like this, but if I did, I would prefer this tool. It’s one tool, not multiple, and it’s easier than pulling out a blow dryer and a flat iron. It is way expensive though,. That said, I have a Dyson Airwrap and I’ve enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. Is it “worth the money”? I don’t know. But I’m really glad I have it.
I just ordered one. I use my flat iron at over 400 degrees and this thing is waaaay healthier given that it doesn't have hot plates and the air is much cooler at a maximum of 285 degrees!
I have both the Airwrap and AirStrait. I prefer the AirStrait because it leaves my hair silky soft. I still use a flat iron afterwards. My hair is long wavy with some frizz. I don’t use the Airwrap because it takes forever to dry it and it leaves my hair damaged, crunchy and a poof ball when dried a complete waste of money. I don’t use a blow dryer and brush because it’s I’ve never been able to master that. I let my hair air dry 50-70% while I’m drinking my coffee or tea and then go in with my AirStrait. If I try to dry from dripping wet it takes forever to dry.
The AirWrap brush attachments made my hair dry and absolutely horrid too.. can't figure out why. The Revlon/Hot Tools ones make my hair lush and silky. I could not figure out why the Dyson gave me the most hideous hair. Maybe it dried it too fast?
@@aamanpour3630 omg. Same here. I had silky results with the Revlon hot air brush. U know, some things aren’t for everyone. I’m giving mine away. I just used my AirStrait and I didn’t even use a heat protectant and my hair is silky and straight. I wanted to test it without a heat protectant. But I will most definitely use a heat protectant in the future. If u haven’t tried it u should. Im buying another one for travel and 1 for my dtr.
@@aamanpour3630 I think so I just haven’t tried it. It’s like a flat iron with plates that blow out air. The plates Never get hot like a flat iron. So u should be able get a wave on the ends using hot air vs hot plates. I get a salon blow out results with the AirStrait. I don’t have to use a flat iron and No Flyaways! I’m blown away, no pun intended
@@Kindlyone777 Damnit, well now I have to try it 😆. I am glad you are having such good results... it will save your hair in the long run. Heat is what destroys it so badly. I have major heat damage.
The appeal for me is that it achieves similar results with less heat damage. I’m super tempted, despite the outrageous sticker price and I’m hoping to pick one up at a discount when someone decides to sell theirs 🤣
Loved this when I initially tried it. My hair is curly and very frizzy and it was significantly less frizzy after using it but, it definitely was not as effective at pulling out the curl as my paddle brush and dryer. Plus, I do prefer a little bend at the bottom and while the air strait made my hair fuller it also made it straight with no bend. In the end, the air strait was not worth the money for me.
So you can't bend your hair by pulling your sections up amd out in an arc like with a flat iron with this tool? Because that woukd be a deal breaker for me. I'd also recommend the Voloom tool for body. I have had mine for 3 years and love it! The volume lasts a couple days. I only use it at most 2x a week because it gets very hot, but since you use it at the root of the layers UNDER your hair, you can't see that hair anyway.
I have superfine damaged hair, I spent $500NZ on the Dyson multi styler with all the attachments. It's worth every single cent. I think it's an investment. It's amazing. If I straightened my hair I'd get rhe straighteners.
The Air wrap is definitely a different game. Much more versatility and it solves a lot more problems than this one does.I would grab that over this all day long!
Hi Justin, I am a bit confused by this review because you left out the most crucial point about the airstrait: that it doesn't use hotplates like a straightener! That to me is the massive benefit here and you never mentioned it once! Yes you get the same results with a straightener but you are using hot plates...I find it very strange that you don't mention that! It is super expensive and definitely not for everyone but still...
Hey! Fair point. Hot plates or not, the hair is exposed to heat and when you take the hair out of the straightener, it’s hotter than one may expect. The real point with the heat is the potential of damage (or less damage with less heat). I didn’t mention that because there are so many variables to consider when determining if this unit would be less damaging than peoples normal routines (their process, what kinds of tools they’re using, what brands of those tools etc). Because of that, I can’t really speak to the damage (or lack of damage) of using the AirStrait with any sort of real evidence. With that said, I decided to not speak to that aspect of the unit.
I can tell you from using it 6 times now that it gets so insanely hot. Just as hot as my straightener. The difference is I have to go over it way more times with the airstrait to get it straight, and even then its not silky straight like my straightener gets it.
I'm one of those in that "small segment of society". Those of us who are inept with styling hair (heck, even drying it), or who have physical issues may find this a game changer.
This review comes across as if you were very determined NOT to like it from the beginning. I have fairly curly ringlet style hair and already in just a week this has cut a lot of time out of my styling routine. It's a good tool for what it's intended for without the fatigue of using a brush and dryer. The texture of my hair feels so much better compared. Also if you have the airwrap I have tried combining the too and if you skip the final pass with the airstrait and then use the curler on the airwrap it's really a good work flow. I can't get nice results with just the airwrap.
I was waiting for someone to share -how this works with the airdrop. I have thick long curly hair...and I feel it will be perfect as a pre styler too.. and then use the airwrap to curl the ends..
I have salt and pepper hair and previously used a blow dryer and round brush followed by a flat iron. I have semi curly hair. I received the Dyson as a gift and I’m sold. My hair is straighter and smoother and takes less time. I also like they there are no heat plates directly on my hair and it takes less time to smooth my hair overall.
I have bleached blonde hair and extensions... I can't use an iron to straight the hair because it would damage them too much... I used this tool once in a dyson shop and i was amazed, i had coarse and wet hair due to the humidity.... The Dyson leaved my hair smooth and straight and it was so simple to use...i struggle with drying my hair because I'm a mess, i can't properly use the hairdryer and the round brush... So i just ordered my Dyson and i hope it will make my life easier... Plus, if I don't like it, I can always return it in 30 days, I think that's cool and an important factor
I have wavy hair like your son’s girlfriend. I didn’t own a blow dryer and my flat iron was a 17 year old amika iron. My routine was wash my hair at night every 2-3 days, sleep with it wet, and then straighten it in the morning. My hair was getting very damaged from doing that. I decided to splurge on the airstrait as a way to get the blow dryer and straightener all in one go so I wouldn’t sleep with wet hair anymore and could dry and style it at the same time. I wanted to try it for a month before deciding whether to keep it or not and I’ve really been enjoying it so far. My hair has never felt softer or healthier. But that’s also from going from a crappy “routine” to this. So not sure if it’s worth it for most people but I’ve liked it so far
Best purchase I have ever made. I dry my hair 1 handed, due to disability, and it's done in 8 minutes. I don't section my hair as suggested so that helps with timing. My hair has never felt better since I quit using a flat iron after blow drying.
*Do you have a video for best hairstyles for women OVER 60* ?? I will be 61 soon & my hair lays in my lap when I sit down. I'm a full time caretaker of my husband who has Cancer, my Elderly Mother who also lives with me & I'm raising 3 young Grandsons but I'm so craving something new!! Any advice or a video on women over 60 would be so awesome!
Thanks for the video! I guess I'm gonna need to watch this again because I just don't understand how using this tool in flatiron mode on wet hair is advisable. I've seen videos of folks flat-ironing wet hair when disaster strikes: The flat-iron literally takes off a huge hunk of hair. The person is left in tears and has no choice but to go get a very short haircut. Anyway, I'll watch the video again and try to learn more.
Great question. It has to do with a few things. In the videos you're watching where people lose chunks of hair, that has to do with the texture of their hair, how damaged it is and the iron they're using. This tool uses air and not as much heat as flat irons. It's supposed to be better for your hair health (that' what Dyson claims) but I'd have to do month of testing to really see how that pans out.
It's not a flatiron there are no hot plates. It's basically like blowdrying your hair under tension with the perfect air angle but it's also blowing both sides of your hair at once. The max heat is a little over 1/2 of what a flat iron would go up to.
This tool is amazing for people who truly have very curly and coarse hair and lots of it like myself. This reduced the time and improved the finish drastically! Not sure why people keep using models with slightly wavy hair for straightening tool examples?
I use the air wrap and my hair stylist said she notices I have less split ends since I stopped using the flat iron I purchased this air straight uhhhhhmazing !
Thanks for the insights and testing😊. I don't want to apply much heat to my hair. I usually just dry it with a normal hairdryer and assume it's going to look frizzy. If I have an event or some special occasion, then I use a flat iron, but I try to avoid them as much as possible. I prefer having a little bit of frizz on my hair but maintaining it more or less healthy than damaging it using extreme heat on a daily basis. So when I discovered this tool, I thought, maybe this is my solution. The way my hair could look without frizz and be healthy at the same time. However, I think that it still works at a higher temperature than a regular dryer. So I worry if, in the long term, it could damage my hair a bit. I know that it is not the same as a flat iron, but still... What do you think? Thanks!!
Dyson worth every single penny , no doubt. I got everything from them like guaranteed , technology makes our life sooooo much easier. You don’t have to put any product on save a lot of money in a long run and they won’t demage your hair .
I found it hard to handle. It has to be held at the same angle working on both sides of your head and I found it cumbersome. I do love the Dyson blow dryer and cordless straightener. I use them both daily. My hair is quite thick and coarse whereas your model has more fine hair. I have initiated a return.
For those of us who don’t have the dexterity to hold 2 devices at once, I’m hoping this will be a win for me! I’ll find out tomorrow when I use it for the first time
My opinion 😅 the best thing i have ever bought 👍👍👍 i have Thin hair and i Love it Straight. For me it works Perfect- my neighbour has very thick and Curly hair - and the dyson does Not Really work on her hair ! Keep That in mind
You missed something BIG! People going from curly hair, wet to straight this is a miracle. I have thick curly never and I could never on my own blow out. my hair like this and so fast. Also, at this time I find this process is much gentler on my hair. However, like you said it missing the beginning or waves you get through a round brush blowout. If you redid this experiment with someone with thick curly hair I think your outcome would be much different. Honestly, for curly-haired people, this is worth every dollar. I usually get a blowout every two weeks. I will never have to pay for a blowout again.
WELL I just can’t justify this $ on a hair tool but I DID drop a lil $ on another brand duo air curl flat iron and no regrets. However my Dyson vacuum cleaners are AMAZING! 😊 Dyson is a good product. Thanks Justin!
I totally agree! I wouldn't use another vacuum! Our Dyson cordless is AMAZING! That's why I WANT to love all their tools but this one just lands a bit flat.
I don't have but I'm considering this or the GHD. I have pretty straight hair but absolutely zero ability to create a good straight hairstyle with just a dryer and a brush - any brush. I've been relying on dryers with brush attachments (originally Revlon One Step, then T3, then Dyson Airwrap) but I really want is a super slick finish. I've watched every RUclips video and am thinking of enrolling in proper training class to learn how to blow dry straight. Maybe this will solve the problem for me?
I wish you had tested on me. My hair is curly and I think is 3a. It takes me between an hour and a half to two plus hours to blow dry my hair and straighten it from start to finish. I have enough hair for three people
It's a cool design and admit I'm curious about how my own hair might respond but from other videos I've seen so far, it would probably make my hair too flat. The shine it creates is great though.
I might need this because it’s taking me at least 1.5 hour to dry and straighten my wavy frizzy dry hair. I normally shower during the night dry and straighten my hair because I don’t have enough time to do it in the morning. But it’s too expensive though 😢
Apparently I am in that small percent of people who uses only a hairdryer and brush to dry and style my hair. I am very curious to try this new Dyson straight only because I hate the results i get on my own using the dryer and roller brush!
On the price... it is actually going to take the place of two other devices (flat iron and blow dryer.) So the price of the Airstrait for some people might not be that far off from what they would pay for two tools anyways.
Fair but I would still say it would have to perform better or faster for even the same overall price. One of my favorite flat irons is the Infrashine. Simple, and works great. It's about $100. One of my favorite blowdryers is the Laifen Swift...about $200. So for $300 I could get a better finish in a shorter time and still have $200 in my pocket.
I recently bought the air strait and the Dyson Corrale. Love them both! I am suppose to decide on one to keep but they are both fantastic with different jobs. Pricy but worth it.
I watched 3 videos on the DYSON AIRSTRAIT and all 3 said not worth it for the price. Lots of pros but like your review, they don't think it's worth the price. Soooo, my question is, did you use any product on the hair for the assessment of the product? The others did not and I wonder if that's why the results are not as positive. I for one would never spend this kind of money because it's not in my budget, but love the idea of it.
Thank you! I didn't use any product because I wanted to see the results of the tool by itself. I also didn't use any products on the side we dried without using the AirStrait to ensure a fair comparison. Using product would definitely help the results but it would help the results equally in both of the ways tested so assuming you're using the same products in both tests. Don't get me wrong, the Airstriat technically works and does get hair smooth. IMO for it to be worth the price, it has to work BETTER and or FASTER (actually both if I'm really being fair) than ones normal drying routine. That's where it was a miss for me.
I have curly thick hair, usually i take 40 mins drying my hair most of the time and that was years ago because i don’t own a blow dryer, and then another hour straightening my hair with my 7 year olf flat iron. Just bought the iarstraight today and im so excited to see if it works better (time wise) !
I feel that it’s one less tool to plug in if you use blow dryer plus straightening tools. When traveling, you would minimize tools, as well. Space saving is a plus. Not everyone have lots of counter space.
I’ve got problems with my shoulders and I now really struggle with holding both a hairdryer and brush. I have blonde colour treated hair, prone to frizz. . I bought the airwrap to replace my revlon dryer brush ( had been using this as an alternative ) and happy that I can style my hair with less heat, particularly when I don’t straighten it. But I would likely buy these to replace my GHD when they give up, again as they use way less heat
I bought it with birthday money and savings, so a big purchase for me. I already own the hairdryer and that along with some product changes was a gamechanger for me. . However getting my hair straight (ish) was really annoying when by day 2 it just looked a mixture of straight, wavy curly, just generally yuk. I could only guarantee straight hair on the day I dried my hair and there was no moisture around (I live in the UK, so here's hoping). So I've had it about 6 weeks and am still getting to grips with it, have found I have to pass it more than two times per section, to get it dry and straight, but I'm not getting any shine, it seems a bit dry/coarse ( I have fine hair), so I have been experimenting with different methods and product. Whatever I do it does maintain its straightness for three days, (amazing). After watching Justin I am going to go upstairs and check the temperature I have been using, as I think I might have got the heat setting wrong. So thank you in advance for doing a buttons talk through.
I personally feel this is geared for those who do not have straight hair to allow them/us to get straight hair quicker and without damage. Hence the name, "Airstrait." But I could totally be wrong.
I think it’s crazy that you didn’t talk about the relative damage? I thought the whole point of the airstrait is it’s a lot less hot and less damage than using straightening plates on dry hair
Hi sounds great but interms of how ie heat damage does this affect the hair, is the dyson a little kinder to your hair? or will it be the same damage over time, thanks for your great videos
I purchased the Dyson Airsrait and I have found it phemonenal. Not only is my hair in far better condition thanks to not using damaging hair straighteners, it makes my hair healthy and shiny. Added to this it takes me less time to to my hair.
And what about damages to the hair? I thought this airstrait could be more friendly to the hair. Does the iron damage ou torn yellow the grey hair? Thanks
Do you think it is healthier for the hair than a flat iron? That's what I thought the idea was. My hair is much healthier after using the Airwrap for over a year now.
Great question. I honestly don't know. There are so many factors involved in really qualifying that. I think in some cases it could be. I just don't think it's as simple as a yes or no.
I bought the dyson air wrap a week ago and have used it three times. I feel like there is a learning curve for me, but it gives me a ton of volume. I have some frizz. I think it's because my hair is layered and the hair does not grasp in all at the same time and the hair blows all calywompus.
I'm a pro and it took me a while to get it, too. Play around with the brushes, too. I wish they had a bigger round brush attachment. It would be a dream come true if they did. I DO love it for getting that cute, long "kicky" shag vibe around the face, like Kaley Cuoco in the Flight Attendant. (her hair was SO cute on that show!). I cut and styled my BFF that way and I get people asking for her hair all the time. The air wrap styles it so perfectly, but I had to invent a "system." Maybe I'll do a RUclips vid for it?
What are your thoughts for this for someone with a disability that can no longer use up that much energy to blow dry & flat iron their hair? They’ve got a short window of time that they can do their hair (if they do/can at all) before the pain sets in & they have to stop.
How are the results on very frizzy , dry, shine less, brittle and thin hair? I used Chi hair straightener till now and now my hair are damaged so looking to change my tool .. Interested in this as i feel this give my hair little volume and frizz free look after 2-3hrs
@@justinhickox you know when I went to get my hair cut this past week I saw a stylist using one. I don't know the name of it but just looked some up online and kind of been deciding whether to buy one. I wondered if the steam ones are less damaging for the hair. Are they good for all hair types? that kind of thing. Thanks.
I think this is pretty nifty for maybe people who like the bone straight look, beginners and those with limited mobility. I personally wouldn’t get this. I already brought the Dyson hair dryer (400 bucks) which is a great investment in itself and I use it for both blowdrying and diffusing. I like the bone straight look and can achieve that with blowdrying and a titanium flat iron

I'm already subscribed to Gaby lol
@@nancydann1332 Ahaha, so true! Years ago I could never have been able to afford it. 😄
Sir is it useful for men?
@@dena-ms8xl ya I do that too and I’ve watched the demos. But I have to go over the same piece of a few times for it to get straight
Thank you for your comment. I hate this type of review were the model or person have a beautiful hair that can be air dry and look good. It doesn’t make any difference for them. I want to know if make a difference for us. The ones that have coarse hair.
@@Rodriguezmagaly1 You're welcome! It work works well on my hair.

Great! I have just purchased one because I have some disabilities and it was too much to dry my hair then straighten it, I would be exhausted. My husband saw it advertised and said it maybe beneficial for me. The price is high and I’m hoping it works.😊
i might try this because i broke my arm and it’s gonna be months before i can fully use it again
@@Felicity2121 good to know, thank you!!
I feel you on that one . Each time I am using my Airwrap I tell my husband: thank you ! This is the best tool to invest in !
This exact thing happened with me I almost returned mine cause I couldn’t believe how much he spent, but WELL worth the investment!!
Learn to be appreciative and not act like a child unless your husband is financially irresponsible. He doesn’t sound like that. Time to grow up.
I have very thick, wavy hair that seemed impossible to straighten. I spent the money, and I love it.
Do you have a picture to share?
I bought it and I think it is worth the cost. It straightens hair with less manipulation and head than blow drying with a brush and flat ironing.
I thought about the same thing less packing
I have the Dyson Airwrap & totally agree. 🙂
My hair is thick and curly, I just got it and I am blown away. I absolutely love it and recommend it ❤ My hair feels so soft
Love your honest take on this product. I love Dyson vacuums but it's hard for me to justify $500 for a tool that I wouldn't use every day.
I questioned if I wanted it after seeing your video and firstly decided not to buy it, then changed my mind and I love it. Couldn’t be happier with it.
Your hair will love you going forward without using the extra flat iron heat!
Did you find it damaging for you hair after consistent use ?
I would like to know that too @@hadeelali7021
@@RinAsami1is it less damaging
I bought it. I get it tomorrow. I just want it to keep my hair from as much heat damage as possible. I wear my hair up a lot so if it helps with smoothing the frizz and hair damage I think I’ll be thrilled. It is a lot of money though.
Was it ok?
What an outstanding review explaining in detail the features both benefits and drawbacks. The price requires this analysis. Thank you.

@@justinhickox oh please do a video on how to get big hair I love it but can't achieve it 😮

LOL.
I would pay $2000 for the airstraight! It’s life changing. I have thick long hair. It’s amazing.
Yeah, if it’s considered a game changer I would spend the big bucks on it too.
PLs dont say that here.. it will make dyson increase the price even more
Worth it than?!
I wonder is it healthier for your hair? Maybe less heat overall? I think we need to figure out the tips and tricks that can be done with this device?🤔
Is there a way to get the ends wavy with Airstrait?
Hi! I bought it, but it doesn't replace my Dyson hairdryer. Your review is very accurate, I love it. 🥰
@@justinhickox If I was in the market for straighteners I'd trust your review and wouldn't get it 🥰
Hi Justin, I am a bit confused by this review because you left out the most crucial point about the airstrait: that it doesn't use hotplates like a straightener!
I don’t consider that crucial at all. It still uses very high heat.
OMG I need to try combining them, such a great idea! I was about to sell my Airwrap as I never get really good results either...
Ps: also, I think it might help the extensions to merge with the hair more...
Thank you so much for your authentic opinion!! Very much appreciated.
Thanks for the very thorough review. However, I'm old and I prefer dialogue without background music.
Fair. Thanks for the feedback.
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
music was really repetitive and annoying
This is not a flatiron. It’s a flatiron-shaped shaped blow dryer. ❤
100% agree. If the model can dry AND flat iron in under 9 minutes, they don’t need the air strait.
I love mine. Dyson can take my money anytime.
I tried it at the Dyson demo store in SF and honestly it’s pretty damn cool.
I’ve been considering purchasing this for years… great video :)
I use the air wrap and my hair stylist said she notices I have less split ends since I stopped using the flat iron
I purchased this air straight uhhhhhmazing !
Thanks for the honest review.
BTW, the background music is unnecessary.
Thanks!!
Shout out to Rachel for volunteering to experiment. Might not have been what she was expecting to get out of a relationship. LOL!
Thanks for the intel. Love the detailed information. I'm gonna stick with my Laifen and round brush! 😁
You're so welcome! I think you're making a solid choice!
Although I wouldn’t invest the money, this device is probably good for somebody who is trying to avoid damage from a traditional hairdryer.
Actually, I sent it to my daughter. She likes it.
I will never have to pay for a blowout again.
great feedback, thanks! I will have to try that.
I have enough hair for three people
but in terms of hair damage? which one do you consider best?
It's a cool design and admit I'm curious about how my own hair might respond but from other videos I've seen so far, it would probably make my hair too flat. The shine it creates is great though.
That looks huge! I have short to medium hair with lots of layers. I'm going to save my money.
Thanks for the great review, I definitely need this!!
You're so welcome! Glad I could help!
On the price... it is actually going to take the place of two other devices (flat iron and blow dryer.) So the price of the Airstrait for some people might not be that far off from what they would pay for two tools anyways.
Straighteners give a sleekier shinier result
Fair but I would still say it would have to perform better or faster for even the same overall price. One of my favorite flat irons is the Infrashine. Simple, and works great. It's about $100. One of my favorite blowdryers is the Laifen Swift...about $200. So for $300 I could get a better finish in a shorter time and still have $200 in my pocket.
I recently bought the air strait and the Dyson Corrale. Love them both! I am suppose to decide on one to keep but they are both fantastic with different jobs. Pricy but worth it.
I just used it for first time and i am impressed
Please review the Voloom devices for adding volume without teasing hair or long contact with heated tools. Seems very quick and easy
Thanks for the idea! I'll definitely consider that for an upcoming video!
Love the Dyson products for hair
I'm a huge fan of Dyson, which is why I wanted to love this so bad....just couldn't get myself there.
I personally feel this is geared for those who do not have straight hair to allow them/us to get straight hair quicker and without damage. Hence the name, "Airstrait." But I could totally be wrong.
I loved it in one use but i dont like the voltage it works only on 110 or 120 i wish i could travel with it.. plz correct me if im wrong
Great question. They claim it's easier on your hair but I'd have to do a lot longer testing to try and qualify that. There are SO many variables.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. Your Chanel is super useful.
What are your thoughts for this for someone with a disability that can no longer use up that much energy to blow dry & flat iron their hair? They’ve got a short window of time that they can do their hair (if they do/can at all) before the pain sets in & they have to stop.
My exact reason for airwrap ! So worth it
How are the results on very frizzy , dry, shine less, brittle and thin hair? I used Chi hair straightener till now and now my hair are damaged so looking to change my tool .. Interested in this as i feel this give my hair little volume and frizz free look after 2-3hrs
hey I am interested in a steam curling iron. Can you review a good one and tell us the pros and cons of it compared to a regular curling iron?
I’ll definitely look into that! Is there a specific one you’ve seen that you’re curious about?
I love their blowdryer too. I also love their flat iron. This one just falls a bit flat.
I feel exactly the same way. I just can’t get over the too-flat ends. I love my Dyson dryer, though.
