    Is Mazda's first hybrid #crossover a good buy over the #rav4hybrid and #crvhybrid models?
    All-new CX-50 Hybrid bolsters Mazda's electrified line-up in North America
    Mazda CX-50 Hybrid returns an EPA estimated 38 mpg combined, allowing drivers to go further
    CX-50 Turbo line-up receives more robust list of standard equipment
    All CX-50 models receive enhancements to Mazda i-ACTIVSENSE safety features and driver assistance technology
    2025 is an exciting year for CX-50 with the introduction of CX-50 Hybrid, which broadens the compact crossover's appeal to a wider audience in the compact crossover (C-CUV) segment by combining Mazda's design and driving dynamics with greater fuel efficiency and the ability to go further and engage with outdoor activities.
    Electrification comes in different forms, and Mazda offers a variety of choices to best suit customer needs. Returning an EPA estimated 38 mpg combined, CX-50 Hybrid offers over 100 miles of extra driving range compared to CX-50 2.5 S models based on the same calculation methodology as fueleconomy.gov.
    The 2025 CX-50 is available in ten packages across three capable, confidence-inspiring powertrain choices with standard all-wheel drive (AWD), allowing customers to find the right CX-50 model for them, and for the adventures that lie ahead.

      Or the more likely answer: extra production is enough to order larger batches of materials from suppliers at a better cost parity, especially since Mazda will be buying the power plants directly.

    At this point in the game, I don't think people would be that confident if Mazda developed its own hybrid system. So going with Toyota is likely the best option. As that's likely the alternative the models will be compared to.

    • @Gopinathk17
      @Gopinathk17 21 день назад +4

      @@markcoopers1930Selling ages ago is different from continuously updating and perfecting the technology and that's what Toyota did. At this point, Toyota hybrid technology is the most reliable than any other's in the market. Toyota is the only company who has been continuously making hybrid cars for the past 25 years. Honda started it first but they stopped for a long time and then they resumed again.

    • @markcoopers1930
      @markcoopers1930 21 день назад +6

      @@Gopinathk17 They've been selling mild hybrids for years globally, and the CX-90 is either mild hybrid or PHEV. They globally sold hybrids of their skyactive 2L paired with Toyotas' synergy drive from 2014-2018. They've had years of study.
      It's also not rocket science, Chrysler, Jeep, and Fiat of all brands figured it out. confident in Mazda putting forward a quality product over those brands. Even Hyundai didn't start selling hybrids until 2009 and now some of their models like the Sonata hybrid go toe to toe with Toyotas' counterparts.
      Just because Toyotas has been refining hybrids for decades doesn't prevent anyone else from swooping in with something more innovative or effective. Maverick, the new Porsche GTS with an electric turbo/generator...

    • @proflex310

      Yes, one of the reasons is that the Toyota engine has dual injection, which is superior to Mazda's direct injection only. However, according to the latest Mazda leaks, the 3rd gen CX 5 will use Mazda's in-house built hybrid system

    • @swishy4mbg
      @swishy4mbg 21 день назад

      I would have as much confidence in Mazda as anyone however the costs would be passed to the consumer & the time is now for hybridization. I wish it was the new generation but understand why Toyota would give up their newest tech.

    I’m coming from a 2015 CX-5 w/ 6-speed manual transmission, but A. I wanted a plug-in HEV, B. I won’t accept a CVT (and I also don’t like Toyota’s eAWD), C. I’d strongly prefer IRS. So I have a CX-70 PHEV on order, although it is bigger than I actually need. Why on order? Try to get a new (or late-model used) car with an interior NOT in black leather. As far as I can tell, virtually all new vehicles allocated have black interiors.

    Great overview. Glad to see Mazda joining the hybrid party. That was a key reason I didn't go for a CX-50 this year, but instead got a CR-V Sport hybrid. The gas version of the CX-50 loses a ton of cash relative to the CR-V hybrid over the course of ownership, but it seems the hybrid will be on par.
    Two other points about the CX-50. Positive: IIHS Safety Pick + vs just the Safety Pick for the RAV and CR-V. Negative: the Mazda infotainment system usability is terrible relative to the CR-V in particular.

    • @solderbuff

    • @jefff7287
      @jefff7287 20 дней назад

      @@solderbuff oh, what I meant was that the gas version loses cash relative to the CR-V hybrid / RAV4 hybrid because of the lackluster mpg. The gas CX-50 is lucky if it gets mid-20s mpg and over a few years, that equals the difference in initial purchase price relative to the CR-V / RAV4. After that time, the CR-V / RAV4 become the clear financial better choice, not even considering resale value.

Soft touch on the dash and other contact points and it has powered steering unlike the Mazda, Honda or RAV4. Can’t believe they’re doing this… Toyota should’ve kept its exclusivity. Also if ppl don’t talk or give enough credit to Toyota for offering so many features on the RAV4, next gen will take away things like heated rear seats, pano roof, 5 door smart key, digital rear view mirror, adaptive headlights, etc etc. Just how they slowly started taking away features from the XLE to make you get the xle “premium”. Hopefully they don’t take away features for the next gen but most likely they’ll.

    I would take a plug in hybrid Mazda 3 or Mazda cx5. 300 hp and 50 mpg is pretty sweet. 38 mpg just is not enough when a Camry can get 50.

    The Mazda/Toyota transplant hybrid that I actually want to see the most is for Mazda to transfer over the Corolla Cross hybrid system into a CX-30 hybrid. It could easily be made in the same Alabama factory as the Corolla Cross hybrid and CX-50 hybrid. Fingers crossed but we'll see, Mazda has been super slow with hybrids and making silly decisions like the CX-70. The CX-30 needs more range much more than the CX-50 due to how small the CX-30 fuel tank is.

      The CX-70 was a gangster move by Mazda. It’s sportier, with enough variation to feel unique, allows a bench seat on all trims, more storage compartments, that melting copper color, the gorgeous blacked out grill. Beautiful proportions. Why mess with a good thing for the sake of variety?

    The only question I have is the 2.5? (Mazda has not 100% said which it will be) Will be be the Mazda 2.5 or the Toyota. I HOPE Mazda uses their 2.5 just like Subaru Hybrid will use the Subaru boxer. If it's the Toyota it reminds me of the late Surgero Marchionne of FCA. He wrote an open letter to the industry like 10 years ago that went something like this, " We are all going to need a 2.0-2.5 4 cylinder engines so lets all get together and design 1-2 that we can all sell and tune. This will decrease engine design costs. PS: if the CX-50 is on the CX-30/3 platform will they get the same update?

    Unfortunately, the CX5 hybrid won’t be out until 2026, I need a car sooner rather than later, and I hate the CX-50 styling.
    Thinking I’m gonna buy a used ‘23 Turbo in a couple months, then sell and upgrade to a CX5 Hybrid in a couple years when the kinks are worked out.
    Plus, you know those dealer markups are gonna be effin ridiculous.
