It makes me happy to hear that you guys like this car, too. After two years and 42,000 miles on my ‘23 Turbo Premium Plus, I’m still in love with it. I like the heavier steering of my ‘23, and I’m curious how the new calibration of the updated models feels. My favorite part about it is that sometimes I forget that I’m driving a crossover; it’s sporty, and giving it paddle shifters with a sport mode and a fun chassis sets it apart from other boring transportation appliances. I just put new spark plugs in her during my 40,000-mile oil change last month (her eighth oil change) and she runs just as smooth as she did on day one! If anyone else reading this has the Turbo, make sure to follow the startup and shutdown procedure in the handbook: upon a cold start, let the rpms settle down before putting it in-gear (takes about 20 seconds), and before shutting the engine off after a long drive, let the engine run for 30 seconds before shut down (this is a good time to gather your things like your wallet, put your sunglasses away, have a sip of water, get situated, etc.).

We bought a CX-50 last week, although ours was the “preferred” trim level (second lowest). I feel that the lower trims is where the CX-50 really stands out from the competition. AWD was a requirement for us as it’s the easiest way to comply with Colorado’s traction law, but a similarly priced CR-V gives you steel wheels, bare minimum safety features, plus a CVT. The RAV felt outdated and doesn’t have wireless CarPlay, no keyless entry, and most importantly for us, no automatic climate control. We had company cars for years, and the CX-50 was the perfect escape from the mundane competition.

    • @petehelme7714
      @petehelme7714 4 месяца назад

I initially dismissed the dial until I had a rental CX50 in Colorado for snowboarding last season The dial makes sense. You can touch while using CarPlay or Android Auto if you want but can use the dial alternatively for navigation around the interfaces. it may seem odd, but the latter is what I ended up using most often. :) Part of it is due to the size of the display the touch points would be smaller anyway. But after a little time, I found it very easy to spin the dial quickly and click.

  • @skyiswomb1

Something I've never seen mentioned for taller people (6'2) that like to sit up higher: At a high seating position, the hood catches the reflection of cars in front of you and because the metal seems a little cheaper, it vibrates the reflection in your peripherals. It's annoying to the point that I had to lower the seat to eliminate the hood glare and of course I never noticed this on the test drive. Also the plastic casing on the gauge cluster somehow is pointed at an angle to where it reflects the sky on the top portion of the clear plastic, again all remedied by adjusting my seating position but it felt like both weird problems to be dealing with to begin with.
Outside of that, I love the car. This is my first brand new car and it's the perfect amount of tech. The dial set up for infotainment works so good with Apple Car Play and I didn't think I'd appreciate wireless apple car play as much as I do, which the lower CX5 trim models didn't have. Every time I get in the car and start driving, it feels like I'm in a premium vehicle. The layout of everything just looks and feels right.

Have to respectively disagree. The delta on a three year lease between turbo and non turbo was almost $120 per month. $4500 plus over three years. This car will be almost exclusively suburban driven. Does anyone really pay extra for premium fuel with the turbo when it runs fine on regular? I’ve owned the non turbo CX-5. It was fast enough. Sometimes it’s more fun to drive a slower car fast, than a faster car slow.

    • @CelticLiving

@@nathanielross8232 Sure. Many of these options are personal preference and or subjective. Personally I enjoy the extra boost of torque for city driving. The cost difference seems about right. It’s the same amount more whether you lease or buy it. I do run premium because it burns cleaner and is better for the engine and Turbo long term. I also enjoy the increased hp and torque at upper rpm when you really get on it. I just wanted to acknowledge that IMHO there is a significant difference in performance between the two.

Just picked up a 2021 CX-5 as a daily. Have to confirm Mark's comment about feeling nauseous in the back. Actually, I get nauseous taking longer drives as the driver. Just something about how its suspension is setup. It wallows in corners and with bumps in a way that seems to mimic waves on a boat. Keeping it because I love everything else about it, and I'm sure I'll get used to it like a person get's used to being in a boat or using VR. Also seems to be a problem not experienced by most, so most passengers should be alright.

Eight years ago (it's been that long) I started with a 2016 Mazda3 hatchback Touring 2.0, followed with a 2018 CX-5 Touring AWD, and then a 2020 CX-5 Touring FWD. Compared with the CX-5's I prefer the wider and longer interior of the CX-50. I also find that the CX-50 has less body roll than the CX-5 (either AWD or FWD). I do with that Mazda used the better side windows of the CX-5 on the CX-50 as more noise gets through the glass (I can hear water run along the windows when it rains or using the windshield washers). I have no issues with the ride or steering of the CX-50.

And due to it also acting as the biggest rear anti-sway bar, it rotates better than something with independent suspension through corners. I like that it can tow 3500 lbs as well. Speaking of towing, it’s so stable with tow mode activated. I think it’s one of the better CUVs out there, especially for people coming from sports cars or people who want to add a CUV next to their sports cars.

They actually took my advice to check out Mazda, which originally wasn't really on their radar. Then they bought a CX-5. An aged car at the end of its lifecycle. They drove both, but just liked the ride and "feel" of the CX-5 more. We live in the rust belt too (MI) so I'm thinking the beam axle might have played a part in the CX-50 taking second place to the CX-5. My wife chose a top of the line turbo just before the 2024s came out. I like the old steering and braking, and love the power, but I don’t like the ride quality. Can owners of the 2023 switch the shocks to the ones on the 2024 or are they not compatible? Would it make a noticeable difference? Second, I don’t like the 20 inch wheels, but we had to get them to get a heated steering wheel, which the wife insisted on. I would like to switch to the factory 18 inch wheels with a nice all weather Michelin tire with a severe snow rating, but Mazda says I shouldn’t do it. Why not?
Gas mileage sucks; lucky if I get 25 mpg on the highway and when I towed just 1000 lbs, I was getting 14 mpg.
I don’t like the entertainment system; too hard to change radio bands and stations. I don’t like that the touch capacity of the screen is limited to using Apple CarPlay. Seats are hard, but I got used to them and an extra pad helps. Unlike my leased F-150s, I own this so I intend to change the oil every 5K to avoid issues down the line.

Thanks, for your video and the updated review. I'm also glad that you basically like it and the improvements. But overall, I still prefer the CX-5 Signature, like the one I drive, over the CX-50. I still think it's a little better and better built car with the multi-link suspension and features like the 40/20/40 rear seats and a better value, since it's priced a little less. I'll be looking forward to your review of the hybrid version when it comes out later this year. Thanks, again.

Mazda’s Turbo CX50 AWD is probably more of a match to the base Acura RDX and base model Honda Passport

I had a 21 CX30..........Ride was so harsh I had to let it go......And back to Subaru........I really wanted a CX50, but read numerous reports that that ride was even more harsh than the CX30........I am 81...have been thru enough jarring rides and demand a smother ride........And I live on a pothole filled road...............In My Eyes the CX50 in soul ride is the most beautiful car on the road..........Please, Mazda, Give Us old timers a softer ride........And go back to 65 series rubber.........We drove on these taller sidewalls for 50 Years and never suffered any "HANDLING" problems..............All cars need not be designed for raceing....................Paul

CX-50 is built in USA alongside Toyota products. I bought a CX-5 three mos ago and yesterday I bought another CX-5 after a prolonged mental debate between them.

Although the improved steering is now lighter, how would you compare the steering to the CX-5 ?

My FICO Auto Score 8 is 740 vs Auto Score 2 is 716 (overall FICO Score 8 is 770. What is chance of getting the best rate or the current Mazda 0% interest rate ? Should I wait for the Auto score 2 to increase to min 740? Appreciate if anyone can give me (first car buyer) few opinions

I drive one of these all the time when I'm dreaming at night. The steering is precise and the handling is surprisingly agile and there's a lot of room in the back for my 7 Japanese girl friends. Plus is looks rugged and tough, unlike my actual car which is the city bus I take to work at my local Amazon warehouse. I smell like onions.

i've got the '24 Meridian edition polymetal Gray and I love it, truly feels fun to drive. Makes our '24 Forester sport feel completely numb compared to it.
I love the styling as well whoever gave it those fender flares did a great job with the shape. My wife chided me for paying extra for "hood decals" but they are cool...eighteen inch wheels also make a difference in sucking up the bad road conditions up here in Ontario.

18”s I feel like are they way to go for this car. It is too bad that the meridian isn’t a turbo premium plus in the States, as it is in Canada. Meridian here is equipped like a base turbo. I have been looking at Cx50’s here but I wish I could buy a Canadian market one for this reason.

Hasn't Mazda announced that they are putting a Toyota 2.5 liter hybrid powertrain in the CX-50? Wouldn't that make this the "perfect" vehicle (i.e., getting the 40 mpg instead of 320 ft-lb of torque)?

I think the proof is in the pudding here. Esp macro sense with Mazda and Savage geese. You don't long term a car you know you'll hate. So yes. Mazdas..folks buy more. And simplicity is good. It's reliable and consistant and earnest.

So what horsepower do you get when you put 91 octane in it (as opposed to 93)? Here in California, we’re limited to 91.

I upgraded from a 18 cx5 touring and now have a 24 cx50 2f.5 premium. Concern about long term turbo. The Cx50 is a better vehicle to me. I don’t see a decrease in quality I personally perfer the dash layout and wider cargo. It feels more planted. In comparison my Cx5 felt hallow. I don’t notice the difference between the torsion and the independent but I do know turn is in more lively in the CX50.

Nice thing about Mazdas is that most dealerships don't add on a bunch of crap in order to jack the price up.

I love mine. Most fun suv I’ve ever driven and looks amazing. It’s one of the few vehicles I’ve found exciting in years.
I’ve owned the competition as well and it’s no contest.

When you say late built 2023 variants, do you mean model year or calendar year? I’m looking for a used CC-50 and hoping to snag the best bang for the buck. Thank you for the great content.
