**UPDATE on roof rack crossbar wind noise** Today (3/25/2024) I received a package from Mazda containing an "Aero-Infill Kit" (Mazda part # VA52-V3-84E) to address the crossbar wind noise as part of Owner Notification Program (ONP) 09. The kit appears to be identical to the Rhino Vortex Generating Strips I mentioned in the video (and linked in the description - the Mazda kit includes 6 strips), which I've already installed, correcting the wind noise problem for me. Kudos to Mazda for addressing and resolving this issue.
I still think this exact non-turbo spec is a hidden gem among crossover SUVs because of the reliability engineered into it from the simple engine design to the non-CVT transmission. Long term ownership maintenance should be easy for DIY'ers.
Yup and the non-turbo engine is pretty reliable longterm and is actually more fuel efficient. you can also get more power from it by going with 91-93 Shell V-power gasoline (Personally tested) which i've found to be the best and quiets down the engine even more + smooth power deliverly.
@@DenisDamulira23 no you should never use high octane if the engine doesn't require it, it builds up carbon in the short term it may run better but the fuel won't be burned completely and build up carbon and yes this is another reason turbo engines need to be maintained more often
Great review! I just traded my 2017 RAV4 for a 2024 CX-50 Premium just yesterday. I love how simple the interior design is. My wife is super unimpressed by it. She does love that it has actual buttons and knobs because her Hyundai is 100% touch screen for everything. Infotainment system I’ve become accustomed to and really like it.
I've seriously considering the CX-50 as my next vehicle and am watching all the reviews I can find. Yours is the first one I've encountered that is an actual owner and long term, which I appreciate. Don't know where you are but that sure looked like the bridge headed toward Astoria. Thanks for the review.
People that complain about lack of touch screen in this vehicle...why? The infotainment in Mazda are some of the best and easiest to use and no fingerprints
To be clear, we exclusively use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. I would assume Mazda's infotainment works at least marginally better with their scroll wheel interface than Apple CarPlay or Android Auto do, but I've never even used theirs
I have a CX-5 and I do not find the screen issue is a problem for me. I actually find it safer than the touch screen option where you actually have to move your hand away from the steering wheel and your eyes off the road.
I had traded my CX30 after 2 years for a ‘21 Accord, and even after a year of ownership, I don’t know how people use touch screens when going 60+ MPH on a winding road, or especially driving on bumpy roads that make your hand move all over the place when trying to make an input.
I'm with you also. I have a Mazda3, and touch screens in other vehicles seem a little more difficult to operate to me. I love that the selector and volume knob are directly underneath my right hand and I don't ever miss and hit the wrong button. And, of course, no constant wiping greasy fingerprints off the touchscreen. But I don't use Android Auto, and it may be easier with a touchscreen since that's what it was designed for. I think Mazda has fixed this recently and made the touchscreen available when using Car play and Android Auto.
But, you have to look at the screen multiple times to get the right highlight in Apple Car Play. I have a 2020 CX-5, and though it’s now 8 years in CX-5s for me, I still find this a nuisance in ACP mode. No problem in the Mazda infotainment system, but with an iPhone, that’s go-to.
What makes you think that you don't need to take your eyes off the road when you have the dial? You need to look where to put the courser before clicking the dial! Changing the A/C also forces you to "take the eyes off the road". Please don't fool yourself... It's normal to take the eyes off the road for a second or 2. We all do it, in every car.
I bought a 2022 CX-30 Select, and the only thing I regret is that it was not a CX-50! I think they're so beautiful. I am single and have only nieces and nephews, I did not need the larger size.
@@audiophanatic4331it’s ranked as one of the best compact SUV’s out right now lol what are you talking about? It’s the most fun non luxury suv to drive, and easily the best I’ve ever owned.
If you don't truly need the extra space, the CX-30's are great - have two of them. The CX-50 (Turbo) rides very firm (I'll be "downgrading" rims/tires soon) and has uncomfortable seats - the 30's are more nimble and feel more Miata'ish and the Turbo version is even better. ;)
8:47 the steering wheel has buttons for picking up and hanging up phone calls. All the main infotainment functions have their own buttons so you don't have to mess around with the screen.
It is a touch screen. Go into Bluetooth settings in mazda screen, select your phone and click allow touch on all devices when moving. It will now always work as a touch screen. The end call button is on the steering wheel.
I have the base Turbo version and I have no issues with drivability - it's actually pretty peppy & responsive, and I'm getting 26mpg on the highway. I'd echo your complaints about the screen - I've had my CX-50 for a year and I still struggle with it. You're correct about the low-profile/large rim wheels... they are mostly good, but certain roads will drive you out of your mind. Concrete roads with robust expansion joints come to mind. Finally... the seatbelt alarm!!! I almost hate it enough to dump the car!!
Thanks man. Been on the fence about getting this vehicle. You sold me on it. Loved every Honda I have owned, but they are starting to feel so cheap these days despite the price going up. Yes they are reliable! And good to drive, but never fun. Cheers!
Had this as a rental for a week for a road trip to Oregon. I loved the car it’s so comfortable. The driving is so smooth, and overall a great car for long travel
I would 100% agree about the power of the engine, sometimes it really feels like the car just does not want to go! You really have to push the pedal down to get it to take off sometimes.
Agree about the California roll into driving . . . it's a bit jumpy. I actually like the dial knob . . . we rented a few cars recently, such as a Ford Edge and a Nissan Rogue. The Edge's touch screen was nice, but it was a bit far away from the driver. I'm 5' 8" with longer arms than normal and it still was a lean to do things and distracting from driving. Once you're used to the knobs in the Mazda, it's convenient, and I believe adds a level of safety to it. On a side note, I fell in love with the Soul Red Crystal Metallic color . . . I work at a clinic with doctors who drive Lincolns, High end Jeeps and Porche's. The doctors stopped to look at the car and one came to me and spoke of how amazing that color is. A couple of months ago two doctors going into their Fellowships came in for their one year work assignment. . . one was driving the 2023 Mazda CX50 in Soul Red . . . mine is a 2024. He would back in next to where I was backed in . . . it's a bit funny . . . in any case, there are definitely more of them on the road now. :)
Hey David! I have a 2023 CX-50 Turbo and was having the same transmission lurch issue. It’s a problem with the TCU and needs to be updated! You should be able to make an appt at your local dealership and get it fixed for no charge.
FYI, they finally came out with the TCU update 4ish months ago. This is after I had brought my car in 4-5 times for the issue and had a NEW TRANSMISSION put in. Wild stuff, but I’m just happy it’s fixed.
I'll have to check into that, thanks! Since I do my own maintenance, I haven't been back to the dealer since we bought the car. It had definitely crossed my mind that there was probably a software update that could help the issue, though
@@David.Wolf.1 yes, the update completely fixed the issue. Before the update it kept feeling like the transmission would slip into 1st gear from a standstill or very slow roll. It drove me insane. I’ve had several Mazda’s before and knew it wasn’t typical, even though the dealership kept telling me there wasn’t anything they could find wrong.
@@David.Wolf.1 any chance you took it to the dealer for the update? I’m experiencing the same “lurching” issue in my current vehicle and this would be a dealbreaker for me. Thanks!
Im a new mazda user but i love the dial. Had touchscreen on a different far for a while and i hated thee misclicks, slow response and having to keep additional time on the screen rather than the road.
Thanks for your review. We just purchased a 2024 Mazda Turbo and stumbled across your video after watching one on hidden tricks. I was happy to see that several of your dislikes would seem to be avoided by the turbo. When you mentioned the seat belt warning, I yelled, "YES! Someone else agrees with me!" Even though we've only had the car for two days, the seat belt warning chime coming on the instant you start the car is VERY annoying! My wife is already annoyed with my complaining about it. I had gotten used to unbuckling just before turning to back into the driveway, and once again, it starts the incessantly annoying chime. All our previous cars and pickups didn't start the alert until you got over 7-10 mph. The Mazda doesn't even give you time to buckle up!
As far as I know, every other vehicle does the same, no? As soon as you start the engine, the seat belts immediately starts to chime. I never understood this. I'm not even in Drive yet! Maybe I just want to sit in the car for 5 min? Can you explain me what's different with the CX-50?
Excellent review, thank you. We are planning to acquire ours in a few days. If the deal goes well, we are also going for the non-turbo model. Like other commenters mentioned, I am glad to hear from you that with the rear seats folded, you can stretch out and sleep in the back - I am 5'-10".
My understanding is that you can enable touchscreen ability with Apple and Android devices. This function is buried deep in the settings menu. Another RUclipsr put out a video on how to do this. Good honest review!
Thanks for watching! The issue is the screen is physically situated out of reach. So even though you can technically use it as a touchscreen, in reality it's not feasible due to the physical positioning, which was designed for using Mazda's dial controller
Great video buddy! I have the exact same 2023 model in white with Turbo. Have the issue where Android auto screen will start black, each time I turn the car on. There will be audio, but the screen will remain black. Dealership could not figure out the reason. I found that when the option for the cameras to come one when shifting to Drive is enabled, this happens. Once I turned that feature off, Android auto screen shows up without any issues. This is a little frustrating. I wonder who else have these issues.
Nice real world review. I have a 2019 CX5 GTR which I like but find too small. I like the size of this suv and I've gotten use to the dial thing and actually like it. I've crossed shop across the board, Honda Pilot and Passport, Highlander, Subaru Ascent, Nissan Pathfinder...etc. And to be honest, I would really like a CX 9 Grand Touring which has everything my CX 5 has, only a little bigger. And a very classy looking SUV. But I can't find one in white with bench seating, so I guess this would be my second choice. Thanks for letting us know how a "regular" guy and not some RUclips reviewer feels about a car...real world review!
Ending phone call? Isn't the button already in the steering wheel? I have cx-5 and I am assuming it's a standard for all vehicles. Answering and ending call are both in steering wheel.
I have been asking everyone on the Mazda Facebook on why the Meridian Turbo Edition only has 18" rims like most of the non-turbo variants. It's touted as this more off-road savvy model. But after seeing this video (time stamp 2:55) on your thoughts between non-turbo 18" rim smoother ride vs. turbo 20" firmer ride, this is all starting to make ALOT more sense now. Perhaps this is why Mazda decided to give the Meridian Edition 18" rims and not 20".
Absolutely! Smaller wheel diameter means you get more tire sidewall, which is better for off pavement driving because the tire will absorb more impact, plus your wheels are less likely to get damaged by rocks or other debris/obstacles
The acceleration issues you’re experiencing are due to the skyactiv cylinder deactivation. I had a long term rental cx5 and it was horrible just like you described. The car constantly tries to shut down cylinders and it takes way too long for them to turn back on and shift the car down when you accelerate . Feels like a programming issue but it’s really just due to that stupid feature.
I use the sport mode a lot since I did notice acceleration did lurch when you want to accelerate fast, i just wish the button was on the gear shifter to go into sport mode, my last car was like that, its much easier to go into sport mode that way, i never really use offroad mode so that can stay on the center console
You pretty much pegged the shortfallings of this ride, as well as the strong points and reasons for choosing this model. I have owned mine for 9 months and I still love it despite the short fallings. It is a naturally aspirated Select package. You save a lot of coins and I insisted on no sunroof and no powers lift gate and no turbo to care for or rob engine life. I appreciate the dial and controls of the infotainment myself though. I don’t care to have a touch screen computer staring at me everywhere I go. I get in this thing to get away from such things and I feel it adds a bit of upscale vibe. I keep looking at other crossover reviews and I would still go buy this over the others tmw !
Thank you for your honesty. This vehicle is one of three I was considering for my next car. The lag, lurch and short shift is not acceptable considering I wouldn't use premium. Regular gas will probably enhance this issue. The dial control for media and phone sounds distracting while driving. I've also heard the seats aren't very comfortable and piano black interior trim and instrument cluster cover are easily scratched.
There's a chance some of the drivability issues I've experienced have been improved, my vehicle is early production. They're not constant, but occasional. The piano black interior trim is annoying, and unfortunately seems to be common across many models from different manufacturers currently
I have the vehicle and the engine tuning is one of the best features of the car. It’s very confidence inspiring and doesn’t have any lurch of any kind. I only use regular on it and the dial control is MUCH better than using the touch screen as you can keep your eyes on the road the entire time. The seats are comfortable and have no issues. And finally people that say the steering is too heavily really need to work out more, as the steering wheel isn’t minivan levels of ease but you feel EXACTLY where the wheels are pointed at all times and I love that control over the car.
Do these have the cylinder deactivation feature? I know my Mazda 3 does and from a complete stop, I feel like that causes a lag. Normally at a light, I get off the brake in order to not have that lag once I decide to accelerate.
@@noelv1976 put it on before you start the car , then the chime won't happen , simple. Are you just sitting in the vehicle in your garage? Or are you going somewhere?
I got an inexpensive seat belt extender from Amazon that solves the problem. Much happier now and it actually makes the seat belt more comfortable too.
Just completed a 2100 mile two day trip in a Kia Telluride with the steering assist/centering. Makes a huge difference in fatigue on long trips. I hope Mazda does similar soon.
I'm currently shopping the CX-50. This video is actually incorrect. Mazda offers the lane centering on the highest trim level, it's called Traffic Jam Assist
Getting ready to replace my 2014 Mazda 6 with the 2024 CX-50 turbo version. Don't really want a turbo, but the base model has cylinder deactivation which is a no-go for me. My one and only nit about the 6 is the caller ID screen. All incoming calls are only displayed as a tiny number, even if the caller is in your contact list. Real PITA for me. My wife drives a Murano, and that caller ID is displayed with name, number, and very easy to read at a quick glance. I hope Mazda has fixed this issue.
Good review. We're looking to upgrade our current vehicle (2017 Escape titanium), and the CX5/CX50 are among the contenders (along with the Rav4 & CRV). Some of features I would really like to have are 1) adaptive cruise control (already mentioned in the video), blind spot monitoring and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Auto on off Head Lights (that just turn off when you turn the car off), Rain sensing wipers (not really strong on that one), Power liftgate (motion activated with foot is a bonus when hands are full), Heated seats & mirrors (bonus for ventilated seats), and a sun visor that not only rotates to the driver side (all cars have that) but that can slide out to cover more of the driver's window depending on the position of the sun (not just a little plastic bit that can slide out). Of course things like dependability, driving dynamics and such matter as well. Some features I don't want are: Cylinder deactivation, engine start/stop at stoplights, and transmitting drivers data to manufacturer/insurance. How does the CX-50 measure up there?
Did you decide yet? I am trying to choose between those two models myself. I heard the 2024 CX-5 eliminated the cylinder deactivation and start/stop but I don't know about the 2025 year model. I am fairly sure the CX-50 has both but I would love to hear from owners of both models. I already own a 2023 Mazda3 H/B that has cylinder deactivation and it really doesn't bother me, but I would still rather not have it.
@@t.k.morris We decided to hold off a little while longer. We test drove both models and while they were nice, there were things that we didn't like about both. My wife preferred the CX-5 as it is up higher, but it felt excessively cramped, even compared to our Escape. Despite all the complements about 'upscale interior,' it really didn't seem so imho. I thought I would snap the sun visor off just pulling it down, and when rotating it to the driver's side it did not extend out, it merely had a little plastic extension that accomplished nothing. Also, I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of digital speed display, in addition to the speedometer, i.e. displaying your current speed as 52 mph. Most cars I've had or driven over the past 8 or 9 years have done that.
@@Erik-um1zn You need to look at the two highest trims. I have a '19 CX5 GTR which is one trim below the top trim, and it has power folding side mirrors, Heads Up Display, heated and ventilated seats and a heated steering wheel. What I don't have is Nappa Leather seats, or a 360 display. Both of which I can live without. I'm cross shopping this with the Rav4 Limited or TRD, The Passport Black, and taking a step up, the 2020-2022 Lexus RX350 F Sport. 2022 was the last year of the RX's 6-cylinder engine, '23 and up, Turbo. The one thing that I don't like is the Auto Start Stop, but I think that I would get used to turning it off if it came to that. The ride in my CX5 is pretty stiff, takes bumps kinda hard. I guess that's called sporty now. I would like something a little softer, but not floaty. We'll see what I end up with. Good luck in your search. I hope you find the vehicle which get you everything you want & need.
I have to say, I haven't noticed it being unusual personally. I'm not positive whether there're any adjustments that can be made to it, my guess is no. I didn't see anything when I adjusted the "alerts" volume
Sound can be set for the blinkers in the settings menu. Low, Med or High Check your Owner's Manual. It is also available in the Mazda website menu to look at.
Hey can anyone advise on the panoramic sunroof, does it really only open about 6 inches or so and doesn't even go half way to the middle? That's a deal breaker for me if so. Thanks
I have had a 2024 cx50 for a couple months now and noticed the lurching at slow speeds right away, sometimes a relatively surprising or violent lurch lol. I took it in the dealership because there are tons of reddit/forum posts regarding this and people seemed to think this was a big transmission issue, but dealership of course didn't find anything wrong. The way you talk about it makes it seem like this is definitely an annoyance but not something actually "wrong" with transmission? Does anyone here know why that happens?
@@t.k.morris not really. the cx50 was more our style and a very similar price point. Since putting more miles on our vehicle, I haven't had the lurching issue anywhere near the degree I had it in the first 1000 miles or so. We love our Mazda!
Traded in my 2022 Outback for a Mazda CX50. I already have 5000 miles on the CX50 and it gets better mileage than a Outback, rides better, easy to use infotainment system and has a 6 speed transmission that works better than a CVT. I had a 2017 Outback and a 2022 Outback that had CVTs that didn't work good. I owned 4 Subarus that had head gasket problems and unsafe CVTs dying in traffic,
For the faux touchscreen, I don't think it's that big of a deal but maybe that's because I've never had a car with touchscreen before so this isn't a dealbreaker for me. Also you can unlock the touchscreen while the car is in drive so in a pinch you can lean forward and use the touchscreen anyway. But i honestly prefer the knob/buttons because i can't feel a touchscreen without looking the way i can feel a knob or button. Agree the seatbelt alert is annoying. Even if I'm trying to realign my car in a parking spot the alert will come on and if the car is moving it literally never shuts off. Ugh.
I want the Naturally aspirated one and have a SUPERCHARGER put on it-- much better than turbo- and won't wear the car out like turbo will.. even power through the full pedal range too.. and you're "IN THE BAND" all the time-- any speed- you get what you need as you push the pedal- with NO lurch or lag!!!
@@bradlebosse7998 Depends on the type- the basic type- called a ROOT supercharger- is a lot cheaper but only gives a gentle boost across the pedal range. Theyre anywhere from $1500 to over $10,000 (but those are the big blowers. A good average one for a daily driver is around $5000 INSTALLED- but you need to find a good shop to do a dynotune and set the computer up for you.. that's a good bit more.. I COULD install one- if I were able- but I got mashed between 2 trucks in 99 and am not physically able any more. (you MIGHT have a little bit of "fiddling" to do- get odd size hoses connected etc.. )..
@@bradlebosse7998 It costs about the same as a TURBO adds to the price of a car- BUT- the advantages are- 1- if it breaks while youre driving- you keep driving with nothing happeneing but a loss of that boost. (Turbo going bad RUINS the engine if you don't stop immediately). 2- It's cheaper to operate- as it doesn't cause the oil to turn to varnish and works off belt drive- 3-gives power INSTANTLY never any lag and it is in direct relation to pedal travel.. (better control)..and there are others.. OH- the MPG will be equal to before or a tad better- because you'll have power without pressing the pedal as much!!
Great video. I am trying to install the roof cross bars, and I am not sure which direction they should face. It seems your front cross bar is angled backwards and the rear crossbar is angled forward. Is that the configuration the dealer installed them, or did you put them on yourself?
Thank you! Mine were installed by the dealer, but I've removed and reinstalled them a couple times. With the end covers removed, there should be markings in the plastic on each crossbar end indicating the corner of the vehicle that the crossbar end belongs. Additionally, on my vehicle, there are small stickers on the roof rails indicating where the crossbars should mount to the rail
I see this video was posted 7 months ago, I’m assuming you’ve crossed the 20k mile threshold at this point. I know it’s a newer design/product, but just curious about longevity and maintenance. Is it still running well nothing popping up?
The new model CR-V wasn't out yet when we were shopping. I think the biggest draws to the Mazda for me personally were the styling, and the combination of sportiness and (admittedly minor) ruggedness
I don't have my Mazda 3 hatch any longer, but, i can say that the infotainment is what i prefer. On touchscreens, you have to pressed on the exact spot that most times i would miss. I then have to put more attention to what i press taking away more attention from driving. People complain about the fingerprints on piano black trims, what about the touchscreens? 😂😂
First thing, the screen can be set for touch screen in the new models so it will satisfy all the Android auto and Carplay folks out there. I have over 900 mp3 to scroll through so it's safer to use the control knob instead of swiping the screen. My favorite feature, in fact. Not using Android Auto, so it's a non-issue. Also, the turbo solves your other torque hungry problems. I also found my new Pirelli Scorpion AS plus 3 tires are so supple , I'd recommend it for everyone 😀.
While the screen is technically a touchscreen, the physical position of it makes touchscreen use (especially while driving) unfeasible. I could see how the control knob would be a benefit for scrolling through hundreds of mp3's though, if only they had positioned the screen in such a way that the driver could choose to use their preferred method of control, either touchscreen or control knob
although the new models have a touchscreen - the freaking thing is too far away to actually use it. All Mazda needs to do is move the screen closer to the driver so that it is actually usable and that would solve the problem. This and having no lane keep/steering assist feature will keep me away from the CX5/50 as much as I love the styling and other features.
@@jonathandoud1 I prefer the "lane keep/steering assist" not forcing e back into the lane. The occasion when I straddle on left or centreline is mostly because the car in the adjust lane is too close to me for whatever reasons and springing my car back into the lane makes me feel nervous or dangerous. Just an alert (wheel vibration) would be good enough for me. I control the car, not other way around.
I’m almost at 2 years with mine. Perhaps I should make an update vid as well like this since I’m almost at 55k and will be probably close to 60 by the 2 year mark
We have owned the CX-50 for 3 months 8k so far. Commuting to nyc most of the time. The gas mileage is not great on this vehicle. When I need to punch it to pass someone the transmission bangs down a gear 😵💫 has happened about 4 times. Good thing we have a warranty. We do like the ride of it, AWD is awesome, and it’s a great looking car. Still not quite sure if I would purchase another one in the future.
Sometimes when I punch it the transmission dies out and it won’t go anywhere. I have to click the gas pedal a few times for the car to get active again.
I am planning to buy CX 50 Premium Plus Non-Turbo 2024 in Canada it is call CX 50 GT Non-Turbo. How is the road noise Behind Passenger Rear Seat, my child non verbal and really hates road sound. How is rear passenger seat road noise vs Honda CRV Hybrid 2024?
I have a Mazda 3 and the seatbelt alerts are super annoying. Even if it thinks someone in the backseat isn,t buckled in it will alert. Also I dont like the turning off the parking brake every single time. If the car is in drive it should turn off automatically.
I definitely use manual mode for spirited driving, and it's way better. Unfortunately, it's not much help in regular day to day driving, especially since the non-turbo lacks paddle shifters. It's really more of a day to day drivability annoyance than a performance issue for me
The CX-50's ride is on the firm side (though not harsh) to lend itself to sportier handling. I do know they softened the ride for the 2024 model year, but I'm assuming it still tends toward stiffer than the competition. It really comes down to your preference in the tradeoff between comfort and handling. Whether you value a slightly more comfortable ride versus slightly better handling. I don't think the firm ride is a big problem though (although mine is a lower trim level that has a smaller wheel diameter, which gives a larger tire sidewall and a slightly less harsh ride)
I am looking to buy same cx50. Can you please please tell me how loud is blind spot audible alert. My 2023 Nissan Rogue has very low audible volume alert and hate it
It's hard to say without hearing the Nissan Rogue's chime in order to directly compare them, but I've personally never thought the blind spot alert sound in the CX-50 was too quiet
I still like the knob it’s easy . ones you get used too Also to hang up the call jest press the big nob and it close the call on mine don’t know why yours don’t do it like that . Good video My dislike from the cx50 is the interior quality not a big fun. of this same trimming you got I think mazda could do better. I have a 2020 subaru outback and its good but not super comfortable on longer trips. I have to drive through the mountains with a lot of snow and ice at least a couple times a month. The subaru does great but I would love a more comfortable car. Does anyone have experience driving the CX-50 through snow/ice conditions and how it handles ( and especially stops) in these conditions?
The Fast Lane RUclips channel does an objective, semi-scientific "slip test" with rollers to evaluate the AWD systems of vehicles. The CX-50 faired very well on the slip test, as well as on the more subjective off road course evaluation. As far as snow and ice, the biggest factor there is going to be using proper snow tires, especially for stopping/braking. Braking is independent of the AWD system, and essentially snow/ice braking between different vehicles will come down completely to what tires they're using.

Is the new Mazda quieter than a new RAV4?
I've seriously considering the CX-50 as my next vehicle and am watching all the reviews I can find. Yours is the first one I've encountered that is an actual owner and long term, which I appreciate. Don't know where you are but that sure looked like the bridge headed toward Astoria. Thanks for the review.
Thanks for watching, glad you found it helpful!
Best owner review I've seen yet. Thanks for all the details.
My daughter and her husband just purchased a 2024 CX-50 in the preferred package and they love it so far. Thank you for the video.
That was a very good review, my friend. Thank you! Hope you have a wonderful time with the cx50 moving forward.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
People that complain about lack of touch screen in this vehicle...why? The infotainment in Mazda are some of the best and easiest to use and no fingerprints
I think that it may work as a touch screen when parked but not while moving; that's the way my wife's CX5 has.
To be clear, we exclusively use Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. I would assume Mazda's infotainment works at least marginally better with their scroll wheel interface than Apple CarPlay or Android Auto do, but I've never even used theirs
@@spol1622 you can enable touch screen while driving in the settings
Screen is to small lol
Exactly, the touchscreen fad is so stupid
Thanks for your first hand experience review; much appreciated. Hopefully Mazda listened to this and "will" make upgrade changes.
I have a CX-5 and I do not find the screen issue is a problem for me. I actually find it safer than the touch screen option where you actually have to move your hand away from the steering wheel and your eyes off the road.
After spending two weeks in a CX-9 I grew to love the knob.
Trust me you made the right choice. The cx50 is a truly awful car
@@audiophanatic4331why
@@audiophanatic4331it’s ranked as one of the best compact SUV’s out right now lol what are you talking about? It’s the most fun non luxury suv to drive, and easily the best I’ve ever owned.
@@audiophanatic4331 Why do you say that?
If you don't truly need the extra space, the CX-30's are great - have two of them. The CX-50 (Turbo) rides very firm (I'll be "downgrading" rims/tires soon) and has uncomfortable seats - the 30's are more nimble and feel more Miata'ish and the Turbo version is even better. ;)
I appreciate the review. Always better to hear from actual owners of the car.
Only works for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Not for Mazda's own system.
Thank you very much! Liked, subscribed and shared. My absolute favorite RUclips channel by far.
Thank you for this very helpful review! 👍

This is the kind of vehicle review we need more of, all the little annoyances that usually not mentioned by major review sites.
Good to know. That would drive me absolutely bananas!
As far as I know, every other vehicle does the same, no? As soon as you start the engine, the seat belts immediately starts to chime. I never understood this. I'm not even in Drive yet! Maybe I just want to sit in the car for 5 min?
Can you explain me what's different with the CX-50?
There has to be a hack to turn it completely off. I've done it in all me cars
Yes - tip - turn down your notification sound … makes it somewhat bearable
I agree!! The crossbars are sssoooooo insanely loud. I took them off immediately
Thanks David.
Thank you for showing your car camping setup! this was the biggest question I had about the vehicle
Tengo una cx50 y me parece la mejor que he tenido...( he sido propietario de 6 mazdas diferentes)
Ending phone call? Isn't the button already in the steering wheel? I have cx-5 and I am assuming it's a standard for all vehicles. Answering and ending call are both in steering wheel.
My 2024 cx50 didn’t come with cross bars,so I got mine from Amazon for around 139.00 bucks perfect fit and no wind noise
Thanks for the yr review. I'm getting the new hybrid this year for the mtn driving in CO
Good review, thanks. Thinking of getting one in a few years.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Great video David. I like the camera angles
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
DID you find the power to be Adequate without the turbo??? for getting on freeway, and into traffic etc.?? And have you had it in snow??
Thanks for watching! I definitely feel like I got a lot for my money going with a less expensive trim level
Great overall review of likes/dislikes. Thanks!
Nah, the dial is the best part, touch screens in cars are 👎. I went from a Ford Fiesta to a Mazda3 it is smoother with the dial than the touch screen
Do these have the cylinder deactivation feature? I know my Mazda 3 does and from a complete stop, I feel like that causes a lag. Normally at a light, I get off the brake in order to not have that lag once I decide to accelerate.
thanks for posting a link for the rhino rack strips. that howling noise is the worst!
That seatbelt warning would piss me off as I like to chill in the car for a few minutes before heading off to work.
Then this car is not for you 😂😂😂😂😂
Put it on before you start the car , problem solved...
@@imdone1967 why would I put the seatbelt on if I’m still parked in the garage?
@@noelv1976 put it on before you start the car , then the chime won't happen , simple.
Are you just sitting in the vehicle in your garage? Or are you going somewhere?
I got an inexpensive seat belt extender from Amazon that solves the problem. Much happier now and it actually makes the seat belt more comfortable too.
I agree with you 100% all of my negatives!
Just completed a 2100 mile two day trip in a Kia Telluride with the steering assist/centering. Makes a huge difference in fatigue on long trips. I hope Mazda does similar soon.
This made me go away from the cx-5 in favor of a Tucson
I'm currently shopping the CX-50. This video is actually incorrect. Mazda offers the lane centering on the highest trim level, it's called Traffic Jam Assist
But we don’t care about your Kia 😂😂😂😂😂
Whats wrong with everyone. Lane centering? Just drive the car man. Lol
Do you like the Telluride?
Some great insights from an actual owner! Almost bought the Turbo

Yeah, I was in an empty parking lot and they decided to park in frame for a few minutes behind me there lol

I test drove this car and immediately noticed the odd sound of the blinker. Has this been an annoyance for you at all? Is the sound adjustable at all?
I have to say, I haven't noticed it being unusual personally. I'm not positive whether there're any adjustments that can be made to it, my guess is no. I didn't see anything when I adjusted the "alerts" volume
Sound can be set for the blinkers in the settings menu. Low, Med or High
Check your Owner's Manual.
I am looking to buy. Did you try the CX-5 when you bought yours?
@@t.k.morris not really. the cx50 was more our style and a very similar price point. Since putting more miles on our vehicle, I haven't had the lurching issue anywhere near the degree I had it in the first 1000 miles or so. We love our Mazda!
Thank you for the honest review!!!
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
I owned 4 Subarus that had head gasket problems and unsafe CVTs dying in traffic,
Is there a way to change the seatbelt chime. Glad I'm not the only one this would be a daily annoyance.
I experienced the same loud seatbelt noise with my 2023 Subaru legacy.
What is the cost to install a supercharger and did you instal it yourself
?
@@bradlebosse7998 Depends on the type- the basic type- called a ROOT supercharger- is a lot cheaper but only gives a gentle boost across the pedal range. Theyre anywhere from $1500 to over $10,000 (but those are the big blowers. A good average one for a daily driver is around $5000 INSTALLED- but you need to find a good shop to do a dynotune and set the computer up for you.. that's a good bit more..

The front crossbar on these seem a lot farther forward which I assume is making the noise more noticeable.

Read the Owner's Manual. It is under settings.
Did you look into the new models of CRV when deciding? What made you decide on Mazda?
The new model CR-V wasn't out yet when we were shopping. I think the biggest draws to the Mazda for me personally were the styling, and the combination of sportiness and (admittedly minor) ruggedness
I don't have my Mazda 3 hatch any longer, but, i can say that the infotainment is what i prefer. On touchscreens, you have to pressed on the exact spot that most times i would miss. I then have to put more attention to what i press taking away more attention from driving. People complain about the fingerprints on piano black trims, what about the touchscreens? 😂😂
It takes 5 seconds to wipe a touchscreen clean
@@bitbat9 All you're doing in 5 seconds is smudging the oily fingerprints. Also, it takes 5 seconds to put fresh fingerprints.

Never ever buy USA cars..they are all about money never about quality 😂😂😂
I am planning to buy CX 50 Premium Plus Non-Turbo 2024 in Canada it is call CX 50 GT Non-Turbo.
How is the road noise Behind Passenger Rear Seat, my child non verbal and really hates road sound.
How is rear passenger seat road noise vs Honda CRV Hybrid 2024?
I have a Mazda 3 and the seatbelt alerts are super annoying. Even if it thinks someone in the backseat isn,t buckled in it will alert. Also I dont like the turning off the parking brake every single time. If the car is in drive it should turn off automatically.
is there ever gonna be a solution to the thunder at highway speeds with just the rear windows open?
That is sadly an unavoidable reality of vehicle aerodynamics
Can you put a trailer hitch on it for electric bike storage?🤔
You might look into a pedal commander for the shifting thing, or just run it in manual mode.
I definitely use manual mode for spirited driving, and it's way better. Unfortunately, it's not much help in regular day to day driving, especially since the non-turbo lacks paddle shifters. It's really more of a day to day drivability annoyance than a performance issue for me
Do you find the driving stiff and bumpy if I’m buying this for primarily inner city driving?
Nice balanced review
Looks like the PNW? Which beach can you drive on up here?
I still like the knob it’s easy . ones you get used too
Also to hang up the call jest press the big nob and it close the call on mine don’t know why yours don’t do it like that .
Good video
My dislike from the cx50 is the interior quality not a big fun. of this same trimming you got I think mazda could do better.
Good gas mileage average 27 in Florida mix driving
But when you take it highway could get 30-+
I have a cx-5 select s, I thought all new cars comes standard with end call button on the steering wheel?
Great video on your cx50 how is the ride on a torsion beam rear suspension please reply.
Thanks! I've been happy with the ride and handling, so I wouldn't worry about the torsion beam suspension
It sucks. The cx5 is so much better.
@@audiophanatic4331i think you envy us CX50 owners. You don’t own a cx50 you own a cx5 😂😂😂
December 4 will be a year that I’ve had my CX 50 and I also have over 13,000 miles on it😁
Other than the roof rack noise, do you like this CX50 better than your old 2007 Honda CRV ?
Oh yeah, definitely! The only thing I could say in the Honda's favor was it had real leather seats, but I didn't want to pay for them in the CX-50. Also, the roof rack noise is now fixed by the vortex strips
Great video David
Very nice. I got a month on my Outback, looks similar to your CX-50, I like the loks of both of them, I''ve got the white pearl. Touring XT.
I had 2 Mazdas in the past and still a big fan
I had to go electric but really loved this new version
We looked at EVs too, the cost was still a little high at the time in 2022 though
@@David.Wolf.1 plus I moved into new home with a two car garage lengthwise so I needed to scale down
I really like the cx-5 but wanted something to fit my kayaks and the 50 was perfect before I moved
Most importantly does your 50 have Mazdas handling?
@@DiamondHead2010I drove both turbo and non-they both have excellent handling compared to the competition. Really reminded me of my older BMWs as well
You didn’t have to go electric 😂😂😂😂😂
@@Justin-q4w6d lol wasn’t my first choice but for my budget and financial situation getting a Tesla made the most sense (tax credits and incentives) made cheaper than all comparable options
Are those wheels 17 or 18 inch? I just bought a turbo with 20s, but looking to buy smaller wheels for winter driving. Undecided if I should get 18s or 17s
They're 17 inch, and if you want to see what 18s look like, the Meridian Edition comes with 18s stock
Geeze! Cheer up man!
has anyone tried disconnection of the alarm beep, physically? Cut a wire?
My cx-5 non turbo always felt like it was in ( to high) of a gear , especially when you needed the power to move quickly .. now my Cx-9 ( Turbo) never fells like its in too high of a gear .. and i never am searching for more power
