I hope there's no double audio feedback here like there was on the last video I put up Thanks for being patient guys I took it back to the editing app and turn down the volume on the original video so only the voice-over was present other than when I was talking to you guys in the break room away from all the noise in the shop
Same issue happens on the 2008-2012 Escapes. The sharp tip of a fresh utility knife blade works well to dig down to the bottom of the wiper shaft splines. Seems like the dissimilar metal corrosion between the aluminum insert and the steel shaft is what cracks the blade arm. I usually apply a thin coat of grease to the shaft splines before installing the new arm to help prevent the corrosion. The teeth will still dig into the aluminum arm insert and prevent slipping. Don't overtighten, as it will stress that joint and may prematurely crack again. Good video!
To get one of these off on an Escape, I had to use a puller, lots of PB Blaster, locking pliers, and a lot of patience. When arm finally came off, the metal insert stayed rusted on stud. I was lucky to be able to turn that insert with lots of effort and Blaster.
Wish I had seen this before I just bought this on Ebay Front + Rear Wiper Blades Set fits for Ford Explorer 2011-2019 Windshield front works well the back wiper was supposed to snap on so I pried it off like it said and broke a little tab the replacement part was a snap on, but my old part had a hook like you said slides off to late nice video.

How do I remove the nut holding it on. Mine is rusted very badly. Should I hold the connecting rod with vice scripts or something before I try to force the rusted nut off?
My old '08 Grand Caravan did the same thing. Dorman offered an updated design. Ordinarily I don't endorse Dorman because most of their stuff is garbage, but the replacement arm did the trick.
They don't just come off they have to be persuaded forcefully to come off It can be really dangerous, some time I have to be very aggressive when I take them off and if this is your first time if go by a shop and pay them a few bucks to show you how it's done There is a few methods
Hey guys to take off the seized plastic bit from the old wiper arm!!!🎉🎉🎉 Use a dremel with a metal blade and carefully cut it into 4ths. It will pop off then you can either use the dremel on low to clear out the grooves or use a wire brush and a metal pick. Once that is done you can line up the new wiper arm and put the bolt on it.
So the new arm came with that nut on it and I'm having issues getting the old on off, wiper arm came off and left it behind and im at a loss for how to replace aside from a new regulator
If this is not your type of thing trying to extract rusted corroded nuts and stuff like that I don't know what to tell you you're going to have to spray it and you're going to have to work it off of there or you're going to have to lightly cut it off with a cutting wheel so you don't damage the threads underneath
@@FordBossMe I appreciate the response, unfortunately while researching a senior tech decided turning it to liquid was the play. A new motor later and all is well
I need your help, when i put my arm back on, it starts out fine, but then when it stops it doesn't stop on the passenger side all the time, sometimes in the middle of the window, sometimes on the right. please help
Well that's telling me that either the gear that the arm sits on is stripped out and you're going to have to replace the motor as well or you don't have it tight enough
No I do not believe so I've never seen teeth on the throttle spacer and a lot of the four cylinders just bolt directly to the intake manifold with a gasket
Usually the seal would leak through the window and let moisture into the tailgate where the gem module is. The failure seems to always be the wiper motor can't find home position and continues every so often after the vehicle has been shut down eventually running the battery dead.
You would be a genius if you could offer Ford a fix for the wiper motor cracking the plastic on the back of vehicles. Every one of them I see is cracked. /edit I assume it is from the wiper motor causing issues with the plastic cracking on the lift gates.
There's no easy way to get these off you have to use like a little small linkage puller sometimes, some guys use Sawzall and they just cut the arm off and then they split the part that's corroded onto the Pivot Point and then other guys replace the whole entire assembly even inside the door M31 Wiper Arm Puller Set 5 Pieces Combination Set of Cup Types and Puller Type for Windshield Wipers a.co/d/dBToICU

You didn't show the new wiper arm before you put it on. And you didn't show the inside of the new wiper arm where it fits over that metal part that you cleaned. Because some new ones are the wrong one and comes with that metal part on the wiper arm. So the new one won't fit. Unless it's just the wrong wiper arm, but it said it was OEM. So your video doesn't help.
@@FordBossMe fair enough, just a suggestion instead of pulling the metal chips towards you on the spline, push the chips towards the windscreen and it gets all the whole chunk out of the slot
Had to replace whole arm from dry rot. Got everything off except the metal bit thats inside the plastic circle. Taking it to dealship to hopefully get it done for not too much money. Better than replace a whole window and motor
Aluminum Oxide? 😉 Chillin at my Ford service department right now thier putting in my Amsoil ATF and collecting a sample to get sent over to Blackstone Labs to get tested. I took your advice and I left a note for him cause I was asking for some complicated stuff. Was gonna leave him a 10 for some beer money but I forgot to get bills 😑

Found your video because my fiance's '14 Explorer just started having the same symptoms with the rear wiper. Def saved us some money, thank you sir!!!

Been using the pick for years, never thought of using a blade, great idea! 👍

What kind of puller did you use? I've got one, but it's breaking the arm.

Yeah that might work for about 1in30 that you find in the salt belt
Thanks for this! Ran into this issue in Minnesota and this did the trick.
I definitely need to use this skill on the 05 Murano back wiper.
A car wash broke my rear wiper arm, and I’m having trouble removing the bottom piece that the bolt is tied too. Any tips?
They have something called a windshield wiper arm puller

Nice information I have a 2015 explorer so I’ll have to check on this. I don’t think I have ever replaced that wiper on that thing 🤣😂
Solid video, told me everything I needed to know. Thank you!
My back wiper is not turning off. First it was the front ones and I replaced the handle , everything was fine for 2 days now the back wiper stays on
My wiper is STUCK!!! On the rod how do you get that off
Good luck it's not easy to explain
They make wiper arm pullers
I don't see the link for this part! thanks for the video this just happen at the car wash.lol.. is the bolt on the top removed first?
There is no link you have to search for it on Google and YES the nut comes off first

Hey buddy mine arm just broke how much is the arm from ford
Like 100 bucks I believe or less
Thanks .
Great video, like the saw blade idea, makes sense thank for sharing.
#fordbossme On the oem throttle spacers...does the 1.6l have the teeth too?
No I do not believe so I've never seen teeth on the throttle spacer and a lot of the four cylinders just bolt directly to the intake manifold with a gasket
My 2022 Explorer Timberline passenger side wiper arm is working intermittently. 🤬
Interesting the old escapes had gem modules that would run the battery down.
Thank you for the info

That's the old insert from the old wiper that has to come off you have to cut it off the new one will not fit over that.

Lol you're funny, it's because you're inept to do the job
Best way to clean the splines is with a knife
I showed the best way to do it
